It is said to always give a place a second change; well this was the third. We were welcomed cordially and seated promptly. The previous times, as well as this, friends at the table were not pizza eaters and wanted to order one of the burgers on the menu. After about 15 minutes (on this last visit) history repeated itself and no burgers (well they actually had enough for one of the two ordered.) Unreal, the most popular ordered food and they are out. Once we resolved who was going to get the burger, the other ordered a philly cheesesteak calzone. Yep, you guessed it, they were out of that as well. I am not sure why this occurs but it did. Service was good but slow and refills slow in coming as well. The bills were not as slow. Speaking of the bill, there was a FOOD SERVICE TAX added to each of the bills. No one in my party had ever heard of that. We did not make a fuss, paid it, did some research and the only thing we were able to determine was it was because we asked for forks/knives with the pizza. The additional charge was known, no one described it and can not determine how it is calculated etc. Also, this place has really been a major disappointment. The pizza is good, but lacking sufficient toppings for which you pay extra. The items described on the menu could not be found anywhere on the pizza, oh wait, we did find one. Someone was charged an extra $1.50 for jalapenos that were maybe a tablespoon full (I am being generous.) We've frequented the location in San Antonio so while we were here we decided to try the location. I want to start by saying that the bartender Cara is the absolute hardest working girl in the entire building. That were true men who were employees standing on the opposite side of the bar having a 20 to 25 minute conversation, the girl at the front counter was filing her nails and the other girls were just walking around in the restaurant area, while Cara was running all of the orders from the bar area and even a few tables nearby. She was also taking care of all Grubhub and DoorDash orders. The phone was ringing like crazy and the receptionist couldn't help by answering so Cara had to do that too!!! Everyone ordered a different pizza and everyone liked what they got. Husband and I got the Holy Shitake Pie and it was perfect! I read a review that said it was amazing and it WAS. This place is the BOMB dot COM!! Our waitresses were so so amazing! We came in and they recommended the shroom tea drink which was super yummy (their version of a long island ice tea). I also love how you can try two types of pizza per pizza! We did half pacific rim and half holy shitake pie! Both were AMAZING. They accidentally added pepperoni to our pacific rim half and they ended up remaking us A WHOLE new pacific rim to take home so we could try the actual menu flavor AND they discounted our bill 10%. I was so hopeful to try this place and coming during a Saturday afternoon we intentionally avoided peek hours. There was no wait when we walked in, however it was a 15min wait at the entrance for an employee to acknowledge our presence and get us seated. Once seated, our drink order and appetizers were taken quickly and was the only positive experience we had. We ordered the cheesy pepperoni bread and requested ranch on the side. Twenty minutes later another employee, not our waitress approached our table to let us know our order was misplaced and had to take our order again since our waitress was too busy to let us know. Since we had to wait for an entire order to be made, we ordered another round of cheesy bread appetizers. We were advised our order would be coming out shortly, however only the appetizers arrived. Once again asked for a side a ranch, and once again received no ranch. After a 45minute wait, our pizza had arrived. The small House special, ordered with jalapeños, did not have any jalapeños. The Merry Prankser was requested as a thin crust and that did not happen. Once again we asked for ranch, the ranch arrived with our to go box and our check. The Aioli sauce that was drizzled over was just mayonnaise and both pizzas were warm and not hot and fresh. Their to go box clearly says Quality Guaranteed but after $100 bill, terrible service, and less than mediocre quality food we will not be coming to the Mellow Mushroom again. I've not had a good food experience in Texas. Ordered 2 GF pizzas and Sriracha and honey hot wings for take out. The pizza was edible but not ag all enjoyable. There are so many good GF pizza crust now. This seemed like a pizza crust from years ago when there were not better options available. I really enjoy this brand. Every time I go to the location on Bluebonnet Circle I come out thinking this might be my favorite pizza ever. However the two times I've gone to the Arlington location, I've walked away thinking this is an embarrassment to the brand. The first time I went in, I tried to order a drink and three items behind the bar were 86'd. I ended up getting some sort of signature peachy thing that was gross. The pizza that came out was overly sauced as though somebody had gotten angry at it and decided to murder it by drowning. This last time I came in I wasn't sure if anybody still worked there. The staff were very friendly and promptly brought me my go-to veggie pizza with Follow Your Heart cheese, which also happens to be my favorite vegan cheese brand. So bad, Please do not waste your time or money here! First off we went on a slower Sunday evening and there were about 3 other tables seated. Each table waited for their pizza over 90 minutes. The waiter continued to give us refills, but continued to tell us it will be another 15 - 20 minutes for the pizzas to be ready. There was not much transparency of what was taking so long. Thankfully the pizza finally came to the table hot, but 1 at a time. First pizza came after about 90 minutes and then another 5 minutes later another came and then the last pizza came 10 minutes after that. My father in law ordered a burger and was told once the first pizza came that they did not have the ingredients to make the burger! This is ridiculous. We asked to speak to the manager (Keyarro), which at that point we found out the manager was also the only cook! He refused to come and talk to us at first. We asked the server for a discount at least on the drinks and he said the manager would have to approve that. Which the manager refused once the server went back to ask him. So we went to the kitchen window and explained that we have been patient for our food and all we are only asking for is: first an apology, which we never received and second for at least something to be comped due to the wait. He told us very rudely, "if I give you a discount, I will need to give everyone a discount" which our reply was, "well poor service will do that." He was very dismissive, unprofessional and immature to be managing a restaurant. He reluctantly give us $5 discount and mind you tip was automatically included due to the size of our party. Keyarro escalated the situation and started to yell and cause a scene as more customers including take out orders and staff came to the kitchen to also to complain and inquire about their food taking so long. This place is very disorganized and poorly ran. Keyarro needs not to be in restaurant management nor hospitality. Twenty of us had reservations for 12:20, and the restaurant, which seats about 100+, had only about 10 diners when our group arrived. We ordered things like pizza, salads or sandwiches, all from the menu -- no specials. Drinks came OK. Food orders straggled to our table from 50 minutes to an hour and a quarter later. Some had finished eating before others got served. Some of the food was hardly cooked -- think raw tater tots and refrigerator-cold club sandwich bread. Some spoke to the manager, with little satisfaction. They automatically added a 25% tip to each bill. Never again will we eat there . . . nor should you! I have always wanted to go to a Mellow Mushroom. Ages ago, when Homestar Runner was a thing (google it), the brothers who created that site were asked to create a website for Mellow Mushroom. It was great, and even had voices that were similar to the ones from Homestar. I was in New England at the time and Mellow Mushroom didn't exist up there. I don't think it does now. Anyhow - now I'm in Texas, for better or worse, and now I was finally able to go here! It's a funky place - the inside is really sci-fi / funky decorated! Very hip, a little weird, but cool. We happened to sit outside because we had a dog with us. We got the mushroom pizza with black truffle oil and it is AMAZING! So addictively good! Leftovers were still excellent as well - here's how to reheat the slices at home; Fry up a pan medium-high heat. Add the slice, drizzle water on the crust and a little in the pan. Add the cover, let steam/fry for a few minutes. The crust will get crispy, the cheese melts nicely and the edges aren't rubbery like they woulda been if you had microwaved it like you were gonna. Been here not too many times but I'm getting attracted by the increased vegan options on the menu. Food took long to be served on an off-lunch hour while I brought my boys there. But the server is nice enough to offer free drinks to make it up. Always enjoy the colorful dining area with authentic metal carvings. Every time we go, my family would have opened up and chatted with laughter. I found out they have a party area for any occasions without additional charges. The pizza crust is soft like artisan bread on the inside -- so much better than the big namefranchise pizza places. I could reheat the pizzas in the oven as instructed a couple days after refrigerating and still taste as good! Ordered vegan cheese pizzas and Veg-Out pizzas and salad with special diet restrictions for 27 people for a meditation event 2 weekends ago. A shoutout to Kaylie Lawson, the catering manager, for meticulously going back and forth to make sure everything goes right!
