Man, this is rough. I have a family with gluten and lactose allergies. We ordered the gluten free vegan pizza and added jalapeños, ham, and pineapple. They barely put any toppings on. Save your time and go to Slice (which is what we ended up doing... after throwing this "pizza" away). Shameful.

So I love mellow mushroom since it's first restaurant in downtown Birmingham appeared in 2002. While this all started in Georgia I like to think Alabama is the second home to Mellow mushroom. This location at Inverness corners is super cute. You walk in and can feel the uniqueness that is mellow mushroom. Unfortunately the service is lacking. We came in for lunch on a Thursday December 15 so it was not busy at all. The server was nice but she definitely was not loving her job. I ordered pretzels as an appetizer and then we ordered a mighty meat pizza. We know that pizza takes a minute so we wanted to munch on the pretzel. Well so we waited and waited .... No pretzel. Finally the pizza showed and the server just sat the pizza down and walked off. I stopped her and asked about the pretzel- she looked confused like I had not ordered it. She was not sure what happened but I said - please cancel the appetizer since we have the entree. She never apologized which I thought was strange. I then asked for some ranch dressing and forks .... they never came. I went to the counter where she was sitting and asked for the items. We then needed drinks but by now - I had given up. The pizza was great but I will definitely do carry out next time!

Had an absolutely wonderful experience tonight at this Mellow Mushroom. The food was great (especially the Holy Shiitake Pie!!!!) but it was the customer service that was truly above and beyond. Our waitress was stellar. Plus it seems like the food got way better since the last time I visited. Seriously some of the best pizza I've had in ages!

Wow! We've always been to the Mellow downtown and didn't even know this location existed. We haven't been to Mellow in forever so it was time for a visit! Love the decor in here. We were seated at a booth and TJ was our waiter. I went to order a hard cider and he recommended one with pineapple. OH MAN!! It was so good and a great recommendation. We had a free pretzel bite offer (FROM CHECKING IN ON YELP!!!) and used that. We really love the regular pretzels with beer cheese, but this was a good alternative. We also ordered the Holy Shitake, no onions and extra sauce. OH BOY! I didn't realize what I had been missing in my life until this moment. I always get this pizza from Mellow and it had been way too long. Pizza was fabulous. Cooked to perfection. Same as the pretzel bites and beer cheese. TJ was a great waiter. Very attentive and knew his stuff. Food was quick to come out which is surprising because Mellows usually take a little bit. Overall, great experience thanks to TJ and the food. Will definitely be back for not just the food but the great, attentive service.

The focaccia was so fresh and you can tell it was made in house. It could be eaten alone or dipped in the olive oil/sauce mixture under the peppers. The steak frites was good, but I wouldn't say it was the best thing ever. Steak was cooked well but lukewarm when it came out and the fries lacked any crunch. The hollandaise sauce was very good though. Would definitely try either the pizza or the chicken schnitzel if I came again. The spicy lamb rigatoni was good as well. Could've used a little more lamb but otherwise it was a very solid and flavorful dish. Very happy that we tried the cheesecake. There were layers to the flavor as you got to taste the white chocolate and raspberry sauces first, and then it transitioned into the sweet cheesecake and the homemade crust. The crust really was what made the dish, as you could pick out cinnamon type flavors which added a little spice to balance the sweetness of the cheesecake. Overall I would definitely (and probably will) come here again. The modern and cozy ambiance was great, and the staff was there at every turn to take your dish, pour a drink, or even box up your leftovers.

(4.5/5) Pizza Grace…read morewas one of the highlights of our visit to Birmingham. We ordered the garlic bread, two pepperoni pizzas, a white pie, a Margherita, salads, and drinks, and every single thing was excellent. The pepperoni pizza was outstanding. It had just the right amount of crispness with a nice spicy kick, and the tangy tomato sauce balanced everything perfectly. The white pie was rich, salty, and loaded with garlic without being overwhelming. The Margherita was as good as any I've had--simple, fresh, and full of flavor. What really sets Pizza Grace apart is the crust. The airy sourdough crust has a great chew with just the right amount of char, crispness, and the slight tang complements the sauce and toppings beautifully. You can tell they put as much thought into the dough as they do the ingredients when you see the kitchen carefully weighing the dough and expertly shaping it for proofing. The salads were fresh and a great complement to the pizzas, and the overall meal exceeded our expectations. The pizza game in Birmingham is strong, with Pizza Grace leading the way. It gets a "would recommend" and a "definitely will return" from me.

It's what you might think of as a cheese pizza, the add garlic and fresh basil to the mix and it is a wonderful result. It's a hand tossed pizza with a fairly thin crust. The chew and the flavors are excellent. The staff are friendly, but don't wait on the tables, you order at the counter, they deliver you eat happily. They have TVs playing one soccer or F1 racing feed or another. It' is a European feel for sure. They have picnic tables indoors and a few small chairs outdoors with a bit of shade. Bring your dog for the outdoors maybe? My friends have done so. Capella has a large selection of bottled drinks, gelato and other Italian desserts. But the pizza is the headliner.

I was pleased that the had a large variety of options but even had gelato and desserts as well. Large pizzas run $21-$27 are thin crust. For pizzas, we got two of their Margheritas, Meat Buster and Palermo. They were all good and a hit at the family party. The meat Buster and Palermo had meat but honestly not a whole lot. They were good though. All the pizzas were lots of flavor and the sauce to cheese ratio was perfect. I loved that they had chili oil, extra dipping sauce, cheese, and peppers on the side for you to grab. While our time there we even had some gelato which was good and got some cheese cake to go. Our pizzas came out quick. The shop is very large with plenty of places to sit, even good for a large party. I loved that they even had plates on the table ready to go. This was a solid pizza spot and worth checking out if you prefer thinner crust.

First of all, I just want to say how much I appreciate that they have their own parking lot. It is small and sometimes difficult to get out of, but I'll take any parking I can get in Five Points. It's very close to UAB, which is also convenient for hungry students like me. The food itself is delicious! I would really recommend getting one of their specialty pizzas as opposed to just a plain cheese or pepperoni. My personal favorite is the Great White. It's got an olive oil and garlic base and includes different cheeses like ricotta and sheep's milk feta. I believe there are also tomatoes and onions on it as well. It's such a good combination of different flavors. Overall, I haven't had a bad experience yet at Mellow, and would recommend others check it out.

Wife and I ate there before going to the movie. She ordered spaghetti with meat sauce. Noddles were cooked perfectly. Meat sausage covered the noodles, not like some places that but a ladle in the middle and you end up with more noodles without sauce. I ordered the Salvatore's Special Calzone. Won't be the last time. Crust was crispy, filling were abundant and extremely tasty. My wife mentioned that unlike some calzones this one was not greasy. It was very flavorful. There place is rather small with less than a dozen tables inside, and an outdoor covered patio. Very comfortable, friendly staff, and obviously everything cooked to order. This may well become one of my new favorite places. Looking forward to my next visit, and sorry I've missed the opportunity to eat here over the last 40 years or so.

I was greeted by the front employee, who was wiping down the final tables before service started. I viewed the menu and saw they offered pizza in different sizes and toppings. They also served pasta, including lasagna, chicken alfredo and spaghetti. I learn that the front employee's name was Solomon. He proved excellent customer service to me, answering all of my questions. He even pulled up a special menu on the TV for me to see that changes every day of the week, serving pizza by the slice instead of a whole pie. I ordered the Spaghetti with mushroom meat sauce, which included garlic bread and a side salad. I also ordered 2 pepperoni pizza with a drink. My total was right at $22 dollars for everything. To me, this was a bargain to get so much food as well. The setting of the table featured red and white tablecloths, which made it feel like a real Italian pizzeria. There are about 30-35 tables, with bar stool seating areas for single guest to enjoy the Birmingham view. My food took about 12 minutes to come out, and Solomon bagged everything nice and neatly before I made it to the counter. I went back to the stool seating to enjoy my food. Once he realized I was dining in, he brought over a parmesan cheese shaker for me to use with my food. This was top tier for me! Very observative. The Meal: I can tell you now that the portion sizes are humorous! The pizza is large thin, hand tossed slices that filled the box of a small pizza. The pasta was enough to feed three people, so they give you a well amount for your money. The pizza had to be eaten folded, which I enjoyed a lot. The pizza sauce was full of flavor, didn't seem like anything out of a can. The slices were cheesy, saucy and not overly greasy with a perfect crust. Some of the pizza I've enjoyed in Birmingham. The spaghetti mushroom meat sauce pasta was very meaty and full of mushrooms. The mushrooms could have been sauteed more before adding to the sauce. As the pasta was full of meat, the sauce could have been more. to cover the bottom of the noddle as well. The garlic bread bursted with buttery, garlicy herb flavor and was super airy and fluffy, not like hard toast baked to plinko chips consistency. The salad was super fresh and simple. The cheese was thick, hand shredded mozzarella cheese with fresh romaine lettuce and a slice of tomato. The ranch dressing was not my favorite, but the house vinaigrette was 10/10! I could drink that dressing; it was so good. I was able to wash it all down with various Coca-Cola fountain drinks or fresh brewed tea (Sweet or Unsweet). Coke Zero was an option, which made me happy! Overall, this visit earned a solid 4.5/5 and I would patronize with them again. Customer service as 5/5, thanks to Solomon. The chefs were hard at work the entire time. By the time I left, 75% of the tables were taken and mostly everyone was eating already too. Check them out if you're in the area! -DASC
