Best pizza in Bristol hands down. The crust is absolutely perfect. Just the right amount of sauce and cheese. this place is amazing. The only drawback was took awhile for the pizza to come out but the manager and waitress was so nice and they notices that we been waiting for awhile and brought out free bread sticks with sauce for us. Oh how the mighty have fallen! Was here in 2017 after a king day oh waterfall hiking and what a spectacular place apres hike. Fast forward three years and after spending all day losing my house into a storage room I thought I would swing by for beer and pizza. The salads are very good. I particularly liked that you can create your own salad from a list of ingredients in the menu. The pizza is tasty, if a bit greasy. Our main concern was how long we waited for the food. In fact, our appetizer arrived last. It turns out that the order was "lost" somehow. Our server was very pleasant and attentive, interacting with our kids very naturally and kindly. This Resturant has gone down hill in the last year. We waited 15 minutes after being seated at our table. No server no manager no one bothered to acknowledge we were even there. The last time we were there the order took forever and was wrong. They are short on staff so that means the servers can't earn enough or too much cost cutting at the expense of customer service. I almost fell to the floor when she said it was over $40. Maybe that's the going rate in Bristol but for me that's double from what I'm used to. I title this review: dirty dishes. I want to start out by saying the Mellow Mushroom in Bristol "used" to be my go to place for pizza when I was in the area. However the last couple times in, it has been less than and our last visit took the cake. Last night my wife and two grandsons were in Bristol and decided to eat here. We went in around 7:30 and had to wait about 5-10 minutes to be seated due to someone ordering takeout in front of us. They were not busy at the time and a few servers walked by us and didn't even offer to assist us while the hostess was taking an order. While waiting we noticed multiple tables had not been cleaned off and no one was interested in getting them cleared off either. Finally the hostess asked us if we'd like a booth or table. We preferred a booth but they were all dirty so we settled for a table in the middle. Our server was prompt, friendly and eager to wait on us. Since we had a little time to wait we knew what we wanted. So she took our drink/food order and left to get our drinks. She was very proficient and brought our drinks to the table in a timely manner. She then went and retrieved our plates and silverware. When she came back and placed everything on the table my grandson opened his silverware to use the napkin only to find the knife was VERY dirty with food all over it. This knife had NOT been washed PERIOD! It still had meat, cheese, and grease on it. Well needless to say it was a buzzkill for us. The rest of us opened up our silverware and found it wasn't dirty but it wasn't all that clean either. We politely showed it to the server and she apologized and brought new silverware. We all opened our up to find it all ok except my grandsons AGAIN which had food on the knife and fork this time. We again showed the server and told her we weren't trying to be hard to deal with, but the silverware was just dirty. She apologized again and left to bring more. This time she showed up at the table, silverware still wrapped, handed it to my grandson and said "if this set is dirty I'll go to the back and wash it myself". Well guess what? When he opened it up it had food particles on it. I motioned for her to come to the table. I explained to her I knew it wasn't her fault and that I think the manager needs to be made aware of this problem as it is unacceptable. I said no disrespect to you ma'am but cancel our food order, tell me what we owe you for the drinks and we're outa here. She was very apologetic and only charged us for mine and my wife's beer. Not once did a manager come out to see what was going on. I tipped her well and out the door we went and I won't go back. If they won't wash the silverware correctly what else is not being taken care of properly. It's really sad because I always enjoyed their pizza even on a "off" night. read more

I'm very impressed with not only the fast response time, but the promise to make things right. This has somewhat changed my perspective of this restaurant, and opened us up to trying them out one more time. Here's to hoping that during our visit they were just having an off day! This was our second time at a Mellow Mushroom. The food is always decent. Had better in Gatlinburg, but can't really complain about this one. Service was okay. Everyone that worked there seemed to be more involved in the basketball game that was on rather than actually working. I did see our server running around a few times, but I felt like the wait was a little long. The staff at the front door were not friendly. I was most surprised to discover that Bristol, VA has its very own branch of Mellow Mushroom, a chain I associate with college towns and hipsters. And believe it or not, this happened to be my first time trying this restaurant, though I have access to other locations much closer to me. What you'd expect and can find at this spot: scruffy-haired staff with ink and unnatural hair colors. Outdoor seating. What's probably more unique to Bristol: local beer (and by local, I mean beer brewed thirty minutes away), big families (not extended), and being able to count the number of non-white guests with just one hand. Anyway, the food itself was pretty good. We enjoyed this cheesy, garlicky pie, the Holy Shitake Pie, which came with--you guessed it--different types of mushrooms as well as caramelized onions and two types of cheeses. Additionally, they also drizzle truffle oil on top. From my recollection, the unbelievably orgasmic flavor of truffle oil didn't come through as much on this pizza since a lot was going on on it already. I won't lie: It was a greasy mess. BUT the pizza was pretty flavorful, though subtle in terms of its truffle accent. I would definitely order this again, though probably when I feel like being naughty. The local beers were excellent, one derived from Abingdon, Virginia's very own brewery, the Wolf Hills Brewing Co., which has a bar of its own. Anyway, Bristol doesn't seem to have too many mom and pops, from what I saw, but it has a fair share of chains, especially near the hotels. Mellow Mushroom isn't grouped with other recognizable names, but it is conveniently located off a main road. Not hard to find at all. Next time, I'm in the area and needing a bite, I'll definitely drop by Mellow Mushroom. read more

After a bunch of mediocre chain restaurants in the area, I happened upon this place while coming back from Target. The parking lot was full and there were people waiting outside. I figured that this might be a good sign. It turns out I was right. I had the buffalo chicken pizza and a Caesar salad, and it was fantastic. I am surprised that this place didn't get more recommendations from the locals that I was out here to work with. I would definitely go back again. In fact, the only negative (and this prevents 5 stars) is that my server was missing for most of the meal. When I asked for a fork, it never arrived. When I asked for a side of sauce, it took two more visits and repeated asking to get it. I think the food was worth the frustration though. read more

We used to love the pizza at the location in Frisco, TX, but the service was horrid so we never went back. I was so excited to see that they had a location in Bristol and prayed the bad service didn't transcend state lines. The to go service was actually quite good. The front desk girl offered me a free drink because I had to wait extra time. Unfortunately, it was the pizza that was lacking. Just plain...blah! Zero flavor which is difficult for a half cheese/half pepperoni. Double whammy is the high price tag. $22 for a mediocre large pizza and plain salad. We are Mellow Mushroom fans. We have actually been to this particular location several times. We have always had a good meal and great experience. This time I ordered one of the "specialty pizzas", a "Veg Out," which I did not notice was gluten free. When our pizza arrived it was a "Mega Veggie." This particular pizza can be found at all locations. I never order it because we try to avoid soy (or an excess of it) and this pizza is topped with tofu. It also has some veggies I would prefer to keep as a side and not a pizza topping. I did not eat a single piece and had to order a slice of cheese. While the server had been very kind and helpful up to that point, when we spoke with him about the issue he did not seem to care. He offered to remake the pizza (which was a split pizza and has all ready been half eaten), but we did not have time wait for a second pizza to be made. We have just left a Mellow Mushroom and paid for a full pizza while 1/2 went in the trash and I am still hungry. Did I mention we PAID for a FULL pizza!!! It was a bummer. I've been to the Mellow Mushroom in Johnson City and Asheville before, however it was late in the middle of nights of debauchery and I didn't eat the food. When they started constructing the Bristol location yards from my office I got intrigued, I was sick of all the large chain restaurants around exit 7 and wanted a change of pace. I decided to try this place for my end of the work week happy hours. The first thing you notice is the place is a little cramped, the parking lot barely holds the amount of customers in the restaurant (poor employees have to park up a hill or in the grass) and the dining area only holds maybe 20 tables. There is a large heated patio, but its right next to a busy street. Thankfully they don't allow smoking on the patio. I was by myself the first time and sat at the bar. The ambience is pretty casual. They like to throw crazy random decorations on the wall and encourage their employees to dress to match the decor. The service at the bar is top notch. The bartenders all introduced themselves by name and called me by mine. They have 48 beers on draft and are very knowledgable about all of them. They even offer you samples of little known local beers you might enjoy based on your taste. The food all tastes as it's made from scratch, and I always feel more comfortable eating in a restaurant with a visible kitchen. The only thing I've ordered from there that I didn't find to be top notch is their chicken wings, simply because they didn't have a lot of meat. My favorite is the brutus salad. Fair warning though, this is clearly a pizza place. They have pizza, calzones, hoagies, salads and appetizers. Not a lot for low-carb eaters or paleo diet eaters. I'm trying to gain weight right now, however on my normal diet there is very little I can eat there outside of the salads. For a bar experience it's hard to beat in Bristol. This has become my go to place to have a moment alone and unwind! read more

I've been to Mellow Mushroom chains all over the place and this is one of the good ones. This place is nice and clean, and the food always arrives in a reasonable amount of time, even on busy nights. I'm giving it four stars instead of five because of the lack of atmosphere (don't get me wrong, the place is decorated to the nines but it still feels like you're eating in a warehouse), and the fact that service can be a little cold. Attentive, but cold. I'm wondering if they put their staff through Russian military school as part of training. Anyway, my favorite menu items are the oven roasted wings, greek salad (best I've ever had, be sure and get the esperanza dressing), the gourmet white pizza, and the house special pizza. My husband and I finally got to Mellow Mushroom last night. The parking lot has been full since it opened so we decided to wait until after the holidays. Having frequented one of the first of their restaurants on LaVista Road in Atlanta growing up, it's amazing how far they've come. The stuffed Portobello Mushroom is fantastic! The balsamic glaze on the bed of lettuce it sits on is tasty and goes perfectly with the ingredients in the mushroom. The Bristol location has 48 beers on tap (many local selections). I had a Wolf Hills Creeper Trail on draft. Excellent choice! The Mighty Meaty pizza was also amazing. My husband is from NYC so he's particular about his pizza. It's incomprehensible that he never had a MM pizza the entire 20+ years he lived in Atlanta, but last night he gave his approval. We'll be back. The only drawback was our waitress. We weren't ready when she first came over, so she didn't come back -- even after being told we were ready. She was much more interested in the table of men sitting behind us. :) We eventually got one of the managers (it turned out) to take our order. She was very friendly and happy to help us. If you've been to the MM in Johnson City, be aware that the Bristol location does NOT have 1/2 price beers and appetizers. I wasn't aware of this deal in JC, but friends told me they thought it was franchise-wide and were surprised when they were charged full price at the Bristol location. One more thing: I like that they have 1/2 sandwiches and small and large salads. You can also build your own salad (only in large, though). The salad dressings were flavorful and didn't taste like they came out of an industrial-sized container. Maybe they were, but they certainly didn't taste like it. Check it out. read more

One pizza accidentally slid off the wire holder after only one slice had been eaten and they made no effort to replace it! We were shocked that NO ONE came to our table to offer a replacement. Horrible management and customer service-they should have replaced the $25 pizza!! The server even asked which pizza and we told her thinking "She's asking so they can replace it..." I am a huge fan of this chain pizza joint. Usually there is a large selection of great beer on tap to choose from, great food and awesome staff. But not here. This location was staffed some of the most rudest people I've ever come across. And our pizza, after arriving after an hour, was the wrong kind. Also try the pretzels with beer cheese if you can they are also gluten free and delicious down to the last bite. This was the most awful dining experience I have ever had. We entered this establishment at 7:00PM. I finished an entire alcohol drink and waited 30 minutes before the first appetizer came out. My friend waited even longer. I had to beg for a refill while waiting for our pizza which took nearly an hour to arrive. My partner and I finished our entire pizza before our friends food came a full 15 minutes after we finished. The manager was very kind and the food tasted great!
