I really didn't even want to give one star. We went in and we were told it was a 15 minutes wait all while there were empty and clean tables. So 15 minutes passes and we finally get seated. Pizzas are incredibly good. As good...in their own way...as Uno's Original Deep Dish in Chicago. Yes the original Mellow Mushroom for me was Asheville but the food is just as good here. Not the classic hip Asheville ambience but then Daddy used to say you can't eat atmosphere...but you pay for it. Gourmet White and Philosophers Pie are both fantastic. It's all fresh and super tasty. Not sure why no one has reviewed this place since 2013, but it's a great place to eat. Was a little worried it was no longer around, so we were excited to not only see it was still open, but also that the parking lot was crowded. The menu is super expansive. So many choices and all sounded good. You can make your own salad and pizza- choosing from an assortment of toppings. And there are also gluten free choice. We ordered the mushroom soup, spinach salad, and Greek salad. I'm not a mushroom soup person, but this was excellent! And both salads were wonderful- homemade dressings. I think it's funny how restaurants attract a certain type of employee. You don't see hipsters working at Cracker Barrel and you don't see women of a certain age working at Mellow Mushroom. Chick Fil E has the well scrubbed, super enthusiastic youth and Hardees the toothless and neck tattooed middle aged. This is really an average of two visits--one on June 11 and one on June 19. The June 11 experience was five stars. Great customer service, clean bathrooms with soap, and awesome pizza, including gluten free options. We went out of our way to go back on June 19 because our previous experience was so good and this was the only gluten free pizza until Roanoke. We arrived at 11:10 to find that the store was closed until 12:00 due to staffing shortages. However, I saw two customers in the outside seating area. A staff member showed up and told us they could accept no more customers and it wouldn't matter since they were out of gluten free crust. As a result we had to go to the closest gluten free option 15 minutes away. No problem, right? Except that we got stuck at a train crossing for another 10 minutes. I am so disappointed so negative four stars for the second visit. Lack of staffing on a Saturday and no gluten free crust is a sign of poor management. read more

We travel 80+ miles to eat here. This is my husbands favorite place to go! Food is always on point! They are usually a little busy and the mixed drinks are inconsistent between tenders, but either variety is actually pretty good. The manager even visited our table to ask if everything was satisfactory and within 10-15 min we could see him spinning dough. The feel of the place is great! Must go! read more

The good: Pizza was tasty (I had the gourmet white), the music was also good, we had some local beers and it had nice ambiance. The bad: Pricey and slow service. We stopped in for lunch on a weekday. It was conveniently located right off the interstate and we were about a 45 minutes into a 5 - 5 1/2 hour drive into Virginia. It wasn't very busy at all.. I'd say there were approximately 4 or 5 other parties and there were 3 waitresses/waiters that I saw. The pizzas took awhile to come out, which I'm assuming is necessary process. However, our waitress seemed over matched. Not sure if she was given the bulk of the other parties? But it took a long time to get service from her again after we were done eating. We sat there and watched her walk by a few times w/o acknowledging us. We had the credit card sitting out on the edge of the table, waiting... We both even had time to go to the restroom (separately) before she came by with the to go pizza boxes and the check. And here's the other part - the price. I was surprised and I really needed to pay better attention to the menu. The craft draught beers were $5.75 each (if I recall correctly) and the small pizzas were $15 each. I thought mine was $10 or $11 based on pricing I saw on the menu, but apparently that wasn't for their "specialty pizzas" as they are all $15. (I probably wouldn't have ordered it if I realized that. I probably would've just ordered pizza by the slice.) So our lunch turned out to cost more than our dinner did later that day on the road. read more

Horrible experience! There may have been 4 people there besides us. Took almost 30 mins for our food &even then they didn't bring my granddaughters food. Waited another 20mins After we received ours then they brought hers. Kids meal states "french bread with cheese" but lots of spices & basil were also on it which my granddaughter being 2 years world not eat! Never was offered a refill. In the area looking for a good craft beer selection and this was the place. This location had one of the better tap selections of any of the other Mellow Mushroom locations I have visited. A nice selection of local breweries was represented on the tap list. The food was really tasty as well. We had an off menu appetizer called 'fun guys' which are pretzel bites with a beer cheese dip. Highly recommended. Great service at the bar as well. We will visit again when we are in the area. read more

We use to love this Mellow Mushroom and were very excited when it opened. We don't eat meat but we do eat seafood so the shrimp was always a great option for us, the Shrimp Hoag Boy, Caesar salad with shrimp, we would even order a barbecue shrimp pizza. However, as of Sunday they no longer are serving shrimp. This is not a franchise-wide decision just a local one. We ate here at least once a week but I guess we will have to get our shrimp fix somewhere else. read more

I waited over an hour on numerous occasions and the food is just well...meh. The pretzel bites are good but definitely not as good as some other food in the area. Everything about Mellow is amazing. Crazy art all over the walls, bright colors but not overly so. Hearty staff and bountiful menu options. PLENTY of beer choices on tap at their creatively decorated and designed bar. They have lots of fun things going on during the week like bingo, trivia, karaoke, etc. The Mellow Monday specials can't be beat. $1 Lion's Head pints and $1 Large pepperoni or cheese slices all night! We wanted to try someplace new and ended up here. The place was a little loud secondary to the NASCAR race but the food was amazing! The spinach salad was perfectly balanced with sweet and savory . the ingredients were fresh and delicious. The pizza was outstanding. The food was good, but upon entering its hard to identify the employees as most of them are not in uniform. The hostess was in sweatpants and a plain t shirt. Waited on our food forever then they got our order incorrect. The waiter noticed it and brought out extra calzones because the others weren't right. He told us we could just keep the others that we had already started eating. Then he came back to the table and said the manager wanted the ones we had already started eating before we realized they werent what we ordered. Then got the bill and was charged incorrectly. When asked if they could take off the wrong charges they said they had to get the manager. Then the manager said that they have a lot of homeless people come in there and try to get free food by saying their food is incorrect and She assumed thats What was going on. By that point I was past the point of upset especially because she was up in my face yelling. My daughter came out of the bathroom and walked over thinking she was going to have to do something to this womsn that was leaning over the counter in my face yelling. After the waiter explained to her that it was the kitchens fault and basically her fault and after I told her I was writing a review on how we were treated she tried calming down snd apologizing. This was my first visit to the mellow mushroom and I have to say it was not impressive. We were a party of 4 and when we arrived there were barely any people there and the ones that were seated already had their food. We ordered an appetizer round of the parmesan pretzels and it took well over thirty minutes to get them, and only received half the order. Our server said the others had been dropped on the floor but would be out momentarily, which turned out to be at the end of our meal. Getting our drinks refilled was a quest in itself, as our server seemed to be elsewhere or would pass by us repeatedly even after we had asked several times for refills. Our pizza arrived, which we had ordered the mighty meaty pizza, and it was floating in nothing but grease. For the prices charged for this pizza, 26.95 , I expected much better. The staff in the kitchen area was plentiful, and there were not that many people here so the service and food quality that we got was extremely unacceptable . The decor is interesting ,plastic mushrooms, neon mushrooms, some kind of eclectic hipster atmsophere is what they seem to be going for but missing the mark. Our family stopped at this location while on a family vacation. All of the staff was friendly, starting when we walked into the door until we completed our meal and walked out. The restaurant was exceptionally clean and the food was delicious. Healthy choices were offered and the waitress even gave our children pizza dough to play with while we waited on our food! We went to Abingdon to try out a couple of establishments that turned out to be closed on Sundays. Bummer. But we chanced upon Mellow Mushroom. Yay!! It turned out to be a real winner. We didn't want to eat a regular chain restaurant and had never heard of Mellow Mushroom and had no idea it was a chain so we went in. We had the hummus with toasted pita chips and the pretzels with garlic and Parmesan cheese with marinara dipping sauce for appetizers. They blew us away. My husband is a real connoisseur of hummus and declared theirs to be the best he has ever had. The pretzels (really pizza dough in the shape of a pretzel) was everything you want fresh out of the oven bread to be. And the sauce wasn't bad either. Your standard marinara with some cheese sprinkled on it. We ordered the red potato pizza pie just because it looked intriguing. I knew we were gonna get something really good when the waitress nodded her head and agreed with our choice. It was intriguing and delicious! It was like eating a loaded baked potato on the best pizza crust you have ever had. Our waitress was a real sweetie. Very attentive. I don't think my tea glass ever got below half full. And she checked on us with the appetizer and the entree to make sure we were happy with both. When I commented on the pizza dough she was knowledgeable enough to tell me the ingredients which is a plus in a server. They should always know the product! I must say that this is the best dining out experience I have had in a very long time. It wasn't just the food, although it was top-notch, but also the service and atmosphere of the joint.
