This is the 3rd in the chain that I have visited, the first being in Ashville. That was the absolute best, but this one is pretty close. You do have to pay attention when approaching it on the road - it is set back just enough to make it easy to pass by if you aren't familiar with the area. A little small but plenty of parking. Inside was pretty quiet (we were a bit after any lunch rush) and has the standard wacky decor they are known for. Clean with plenty of seating, and comfortable booths. We got seated promptly, our waiter was pleasant and brought drinks quickly. We ordered the pretzel bites with beer cheese - they were perfect! My only (personal) gripe is they shake on a bit of parmesan cheese on the bites, and I don't like them as well that way. Nothing a little brushing off won't fix! Pizza was a pepperoni & bacon, and it was spot on - just a bit of crunch on the bottom of the crust, nothing soggy here! Very good pizza!! Definitely try this one if you never have!! read more

I was really excited when Mellow Mushroom opened up a location in the Burlington/Elon area, because they probably get my vote for best pizza from a chain-style restaurant. What I dig about Mellow is their eclectic offering of different pizza creations outside of the usual tomato sauce, meat and cheese. I love their fresh veggie toppings, as well as their pesto-bases that mix it up from the usual red sauce. Mellow Mushroom's bread really sets it apart though. Their pizza crust is AMAZING. Soft and doughy with just enough crunch. As an appetizer, the fresh pretzels are on point, it really lets the bread shine through. Most recently I tried one of their hot subs, the Meatball Marinara. Good flavor, with a tasty meatball. I was really craving it for some reason, and it was good, but it's hard not to go with the pizza at MM. Last note, they have an awesome beer selection. Lots of rotating drafts and bottles. My roommates and I joined the Burlington restaurants beer club, which gives you discounts if you drink 50 different beers they offer. Although who really needs an incentive to enjoy a good brew? All in all I'm a big fan of Mellow Mushroom, whether I go there to scratch my pizza itch or slowly sip a beer on draft. Very hip and trendy looking restaurant. I don't remember our waitresses name, but she was very informed about the menu and assisted us well. We were very hungry and ordered a salad and each our own pizza. One of the ingredients was missing from my mother's pizza and the waitress never came by to check on us to see how our meal was. I've been working in Burlington since September. I stay across the street from The Mellow Mushroom. I've eaten pizza from here on several occasions. They are hit and miss at best. I make online orders and go in to pick up. One time in, after 10 minutes standing at the counter with my pizza getting cold, they come out to tell me that they have no caps for the gallon of iced tea. No problem, just don't keep me standing here with a pizza that's getting cold. Got the pretzel bites with beer cheese one night. Cheese was great, pretzels were hard. I've ordered thin and original crust. Always get the double cut. Sometimes they cut it right, sometimes not. Tonight, I got the house special minus Roma tomatoes, beer cheese for the crust, and ordered it crispy. I get there to pick it up and they bring the pizza.... no cheese. I ask for the Bree cheese, girl comes back with an order slip and asks the girl up front if she can look because she doesn't see my cheese on the order. I tell her that I'll go over and get my phone and show her the order. She comes back with the cheese and says she didn't want to have to charge me For it. I've already paid for it. Get to the hotel, pizza looks great. Crust around the edge is nice, but everything inside 1" from the crust is so soggy I can't pick it up. I have to eat it with a fork. I'm pretty disappointed with the Mushroom. No matter how long my work keeps me here, they have lost my business due to inconsistent food and service. If you get a good pizza, it's good. If you catch them on an off day, there is no telling what you're going to get. read more

We go here a lot for our car club dinners. They always take good care of us and let us use there party room so we can all sit together. The service is always great and all the staff if very friendly and will accommodate us with what we need. The food is always good but now that I'm on weight watchers I do not order the pizza. Having been to a number of these locations, we were a bit disappointed with the typical sports bar vibe going on here, right down to the sticky tables, seats, and menus. The piped in tunes were great if you could hear them as the noise level for 6pm on a average week night was rather loud. Tableside conversation was difficult at best. Pizzas were good, but not great as expected since the crusts were overcooked and hard, and partially uncut which was a problem when using only a table knife to extract slices. The Yelp check-in gift was an unimpressive order of barely toasted cheesy bread that consisted only of cheese and some garlic on a split loaf of Italian bread. The server, Autumn, was super despite forgetting the Yelp offer and adding $4.95 for the cheesy bread to our bill which she quickly removed when brought to her attention. I wished we had skipped the bread altogether and ordered extra pizzas for home just so I could give here more of a tip! Unfortunately, for really great pizza and a good selection of cold beer, BRIXX in Greensboro is still our go-to place as they have yet to disappoint! read more

Came here during trivia night which totally caught me off guard cause I had to yell the entire night to talk over it. We still seated pretty quickly and our drink orders were taken pretty fast. The first thing I noticed was the prices. Mellow mushroom has great quality pizza however the price is what I don't really care for. You can get a small pizza for the same price as a large one from Pizza Hut. If you're willing to spend the extra couple bucks then I'd recommend coming here. I placed a pickup order. Thirty minutes later I arrived to pick up my order. I was told it wasn't yet ready. I asked to pay for it. I was handed the receipt, and told it was already paid for. I was puzzled, as I hadn't paid for it. Later a girl told me there was a mix up. Another with the same name paid for it instead of their order. They said they'd have to give me my order for free. Then later I was told they figured out how to charge me, and asked how I'd pay for it -- cash or credit. She walked off when I said by credit card. Another came after that and said they were ready for me to pay. Credit card was fine. Oddly, after waiting 30 extra minutes for my two pizzas to be fixed again, both were only slightly warm. What a roller coaster. We wanted to enjoy our meal. Instead, we were delayed 30 extra minutes for food that seems to have been sitting a while. Disappointed. read more

Went for dinner (6 of us) after out granddaughter's pre-school graduation. Forgot to check in while there but had to review anyway. They found us a table quickly and turned us over to Courtney to take care of us. And she did, she was very pleasant, smiled the whole time and was there when we needed or wanted something. Can't say enough good things about her. Also, the food was great. Their special pizzas selection is fabulous and the chicken wings were great too. Very disappointed! We have gone to the Mellow Mushroom for years for our son's birthday... Today was his 14th birthday and he was so excited for the birthday dessert and when we asked about the birthday pretzel with cinnamon and honey our waitress advised us they don't do that. She then told us she could bring us a sundae and charge us for it. Really?!? We love the Mellow Mushroom and always stop if there happens to be one when we are traveling. But the Burlington location has never met the same level of excellence as others! We will not be returning... We will go to the Durham location next time! We had a great lunch there yesterday despite a Pooh like blustery day on the patio. We brought our puppy Kozlov, a twelve week old Pomsky who thoroughly enjoyed the attention from a nearby table of preteen female admirers. My wife loaded up a spinach salad in ways I could not imagine. Loved the Jerk Tofu. Our nine year old had a tomato base pizza with basil and meatball and mozzarella. I highly recommend to anyone for an early dinner out with your family. Pizza is the way to go, it's their speciality in my opinion. I've eaten here about 5 times with co-workers for lunch. Each time I had a sandwich so I can't comment on the pizza. None of the sandwiches needed trying twice! Surprisingly good pizza place in Burlington. Food: The Kosmic Karma pizza is a must-order! The pesto swirl is a great touch. If you're really hungry, start with the pretzels as well and get one of each kind (honey cinnamon, parmesan, and plain). The bruschetta is a great choice for an appetizer as well, but keep in mind it has feta on it! The small size for the pizza is good for one hungry person but could also be split between two people. The small salad is a nice size for an appetizer, and the large size is very generously portioned. The hoagies are pretty good as well. You probably won't have room for dessert, but if you do make sure to ask about the peanut butter cup cookie with ice cream. It's served warm and is pretty good! Though I don't follow a gluten free diet, I was impressed with their extensive gluten free offerings. Atmosphere: The place has a really trippy feel and is pretty unique. Mellow Mushroom had some really great pizza. The crust was delicious - soft but also crispy on the bottom; never had that combination before but it was delicious. It was gourmet style pizza but without being super thick. This location has been packed ever since it opened and it is very clear to see why. Also have around 20 beers on tap - nothing nicer with a good pizza than a good beer.
