One of the largest mellow mushrooms I've been to, has an upstairs and downstairs. Not to many people here on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Employees seemed friendly . We ordered our pizza to go from the highway lol so we didn't eat inside. The only thing I saw that I didn't like were the bathrooms weren't clean. I let them know on our way out. I have been to my fair share of Mellow Mushrooms but never got the opportunity to try the one in Columbia. Located on Gervais, the restaurant is right in the heart of one of the more lively parts of Columbia. There's an upstairs and downstairs seating area, but the top area seems to be a little more private and spacious. I opted only for a pepperoni pizza and it did take a good while to come out, especially considering it was only a small. After about 30 minutes, I received the pizza and thought it was delicious. I wish I could have tried some of their more colorful meals. Our waitress was very kind and attentive to our few needs. All in all, I had a wonderful outing here and really enjoyed the atmosphere in the place. read more

Honestly just not a good experience and not one we have come to expect from a Mellow Mushroom. I went with my wife and five children. First, I ordered a Tito's and soda, and the waiter came back and said they had no soda water. It just didn't make sense, so he was great. He suggested I talked to the bartender. I talked to the bartender, who said yes, that used to be the case, but now they have soda. Which was good. I sat down, waited, and assumed I would get the drink :-(. I had to go back to the bar, and there was another bartender there who said they had no soda water. I pointed to the other bartender, and she said yes, they do. The bartender made me a drink with a real attitude. 3 of the kids ordered mac and cheese. It came to the table, and my wife had to hunt down silverware. Mac and Cheese look hot with nice brown melted cheese. It was ice-cold, clearly cooked prior, and poorly reheated. My wife ordered a spinach salad, and my son and I ordered wings. They came to the table, and the wife's salad, she realized, came with ranch dressing. She had put it on the salad, and it made no sense it came with a spinach salad. I noticed that only one of the wing orders came with a ranch dressing. So they forgot the correct dressing for the spinach salad and took it from the wings dish and put it on my wife's plate. I wanted another drink but didn't want to wait again. I went to the bar, and another bartender was there. I ordered the same thing and was told no soda again; my reply omg, here we go again. I explained what had already happened. There was another guy behind the bar who chimed in. Yes, we don't have soda, and they should never have given it to you. I responded, but he said yes, the lines are unsanitary. I said OK, give it to me without soda. The bartender said they hadn't had soda water for the six months she had been there. I Sat down and then got concerned and was served a drink with unsanitary soda, and I realized my kids also had coke products and assumed it was also made with soda. I told the waiter was not happy about this and also pointed out the other issues. They took the mac and cheese off the check. As I left, I asked the manager to share my experience. It turns out it was the same person that let me know that they should have never served me the soda. I tried to tell him what a bad experience it was, and he responded with an attitude. He repeatedly said that those were all easy fixes and that he took off the mac and cheese. Then he ended that he didn't appreciate the way I talked to the bartender. Just crazy. I was joking with the bartender and asked for a double vodka to kill whatever I had just drunk. I don't like to write negative reviews without the opportunity to talk to a manager, but that wasn't going anywhere. read more

The Mellow Mushroom in downtown Columbia is located in the Vista-I guess technically is maybe at the highest point in the Vista, since it's the first building, anyway I digress. I came here solo because Renee was working and I really wanted pizza. They have some parking out back, but I got lucky with an on-street spot and was seated 15 seconds after walking in on a Saturday night at 7. Place was just starting to get busy and my server was came around, but I got the impression he had to go upstairs for everything - seems weird. Used my Yelp app for a free pretzel bite and along with a fairly cold beer (lagers should always be cold) I was ready to chill while my SO worked to make some coin. Ordered a small pizza and asked for it well done, forgetting about the super crispy issue I had three years ago until after my order was put in. Came to Mellow Mushroom with husband's work colleagues and ordered a cocktail. The waitress asked for my ID and I handed my valid SC drivers license that I've had since I first got my license. She said "ummmm i'm going to have to take this in the back", came back almost 10 minutes later and said, "unfortunately I cannot accept this ID. i've never seen one look like this". ? ? It is a standard SC license. Very embarrassing in front of the party I was with. If a restaurant is going to allow a basic waitresses to sell alcohol, they should be properly trained to avoid this BS. read more

We've frequented many Mellow locations. Sadly, this spot leaves you somewhat disappointed. This location is lacking in customer service. We arrived on Saturday around 5:15, very slow might I add. There was a party attempting to secure the best seating for their group. The hostess was accommodating and appeared invested In the group's requests. Unfortunately while seating them (at the time only 4 people. The rest of the their party had not arrived) we were ignored, not greeted, and waited for quite some time. Servers walked by. Crickets chirped. Kitchen staff stared. Crickets chirped. Servers walked by. Crickets screamed! Upon her return she attempted to seat the THREE parties that arrived after me. I'm first in line, there's no way you missed us, my kid had the most obnoxious pirate hat on and we were standing at the podium. Once seated we were greeted by our server. I will admit she was one of the only positives besides the cold beer for moi. She was prompt and our orders were timely and correct. Her demeanor wasn't exactly friendly but that's a stupid point at this juncture. Our pizza was delicious. No complaints there. I don't anticipate returning to this location. I will test out the Lexington location next round. Parking in lot next door is $5. I was able to easily secure street parking. read more

I've been to this location multiple times, as well as other Mellow Mushrooms. I pretty much always order their Holy shiitake pie. It's pretty consistent across all branches that I've been to. Service has also been decent, never had to wait too long. This is also one of the few pizza places where I actually enjoy the pizza crust. The only issue I have is that they can be a bit pricey; $20+ for a medium pizza is way too high. This alone makes me want to rate it lower, but the pizzas are always delicious and very consistent. Its bread, red sauce, cheese, and veggies. Lets talk about the toppings. 3$ per topping and you WILL be skimped. I am so so curious what would happen if I asked for "light" toppings of any option. Would they just give me like, 2 peppers LOL??? Would it cost less money? I wanna try it just to see. I've heard from friends that this is a horrible location to work at and they treat their workers poorly. Last time I was here with my parents and our food took 50 minutes and it was slow. I really just hope I don't get sick from the pizza being undercooked because undercooked flour is risky to consume thats why you shouldn't eat raw dough. Again if this was like, papa johns or something I wouldn't be writing this review but this place is SO SO expensive. 3$ for barely any toppings is so disappointing I don't think ill be back. So I left and came back again and was told it would be ready any minute. I got tired of waiting and left and came back again and finally got my order 88 minutes late. On top of all that every time I came in to try to pick up my order that was supposed to already be ready the manager gave me attitude. The last thing he said to me was _ here's the order you've been raging about. At no point did I say anything or do anything negative towards this manager whatsoever. Bruschetta was good, but cheese bread came out cold. Only got napkins & silverware by asking hostess. Never got refills of water. The oven "ate" our kids' pizza & server offered a free calzone plus the pizza for free when it was ready. We agreed. When the bill came, we were charged for both the pizza & calzone. Manager eventually took off the pizza & 50% off the calzone (which we never even ordered). My salad came without dressing & it took 8 minutes (I timed it) to get some, by which time I'd already begun eating it. I'd learned that there was no telling when I'd get whatever I'd asked for. Other tables also never received napkins so we shared some of ours. At the end of the night, we were told that several people had called out & our server was actually in training. They were also undergoing renovations. In my opinion they'd have been better off just closing if things were that bad. I'd give negative stars if I could. read more

Our bruschetta came out 20 minutes after we ordered and it was soggy. We got our meals 40 minutes later and was luke warm and average at best. The only thing that I would say is good is the water. When I went out to my car I had a 50 dollars ticket and when I went to see why it had no explanation and was told off by the staff that they couldn't do anything about it, even though they own the lot. There is no sign that identifies when mellow mushroom parking starts and ends and where the hourly parking is. Spent 100 dollars over all for the crap service and food. And walked out to a 48 dollars parking citation on my car it is a Saturday which is supposed to be no parking fees on the weekend unless you get a ticket from vista parking. Who say they manage this lot for mellow mushroom. Would not recommend coming to mellow mushroom at all the food was average and the service awful. The food came out 30 minutes after we ordered. And parked there before and haven't paid. So 80 dollars overall for a fast food meal basically. Tonight I tried the mushroom soup and it was amazing. The waitress was very nice ( actually she saved this situation ) and she said I could get the steak separately. Unfortunately i I was waiting for the extra steak for 25 mins! So the rest of my sandwich got cold and I decided to go home and eat it there. I was also very disappointed about the Magic mushroom soup as it was cold not warm after it was served!
