This is probably the most unusual MM I've visited as it's located inside an old house in Downtown Gainesville. It's wild that the best and prettiest Mellow Mushroom is hidden in the North Georgia foothills. Obviously this is a chain, but none of the other locations I've been to in Cumming, Savannah, Augusta, Atlanta, or St. Augustine hold a candle to this one. Wonderful atmosphere, great pizza. Great pizza and sandwiches with a full bar in the back just inside of the covered patio. They do a good job with pizza here. It's big and our family has yet to make it all the way through a large. Sandwiches are well crafted too. They try to emulate all things hippie here. They do that with the decor well. They fall short with putting bean sprouts on the sandwiches. Beer is cold and there's always a party going on. They are located in a grand old home on historic Green street. It's a bit overstated for a pizza joint. But it sure doesn't hurt the flavors. Plenty of parking in the back. These rare nice folks. Service is agreeable and friendly. Get you a nifty tee shirt and join the Woodstock generation. You're gone enjoy eating here. was quite a nice location to see. it is located in a landmark building (according to the waitress, its been around for almost 100 years). the initial experience was that the room smelled a little funny (think they just bleached the bathroom and left the door leading to the bathroom open)... the rest of the restaurant was nice. lots of great tables, however not many 'smaller' tables. i went there with a buddy of mine and the smallest table available was a 2 seater (however, we only saw 2 of those tables). he ordered a meatball parm hero and was amazed at how good it was i ordered a small meat lovers pie (4 large slices) which as ham, meatball, pepperoni, and other meats. in addition , i substituted out the cheese for vegan (daiya) cheese...(since i'm dairy free). the initial order came out bad, as they sprinkled parm cheese on the plate, then placed the pizza on top of it. the 2nd time around they got the order right, however i had to convert my order to take out, and eat it back at the office, due to time constraints. the food was great, and the service was just as good. (we ended up sitting at the bar, b/c it was quicker than the table service). i'd go back, and hopefully enjoy my meal at the restaurant instead of having to take out. read more

This is my favorite Mellow Mushroom location. The pizza is the best I have ever had. I love coming here with family and friends the atmosphere is just so chill and nice. The staff is always so kind. This is by far the best Mellow Mushroom ever. You can tell that this owner takes pride in ensuring that their customers have the best experience from the atmosphere to the food. This Mellow is located on historic Green Street walking distance from the Gainesville square. There is an outside patio as well as an upstairs seating for busier times or for private functions. There are a few things that make this Mellow exceptional. First, the bruschetta. The Gainesville Mellow's toast that the serve with their bruschetta is ten times better than any other Mellow. It's bigger and the perfect amount of crunchy. Not to mention it's topped off with an amazingly thick combination of balsamic vinegar and olive oil. Secondly, this is the only Mellow that I know of that allows you to order slices for dinner. If I remember correctly the base has to be red sauce, but it still makes it super convenient for groups that can't decide on one type of pizza. Lastly, they also allow you to order half and half different specialty pizzas - they don't even have to have the same base. How great is that? Talk about never having to compromise your pizza choices again! read more

It had great service and great atmosphere, but I think that's what I was paying for. I specifically drove across Gainesville for an authentic Italian hoagie and I thought I would get it at mellow mushroom. The mellow hoagie didn't satisfy. The hoagie was like eating a crouton. The alfalfa sprouts were a good idea, but the hoagie skimped on turkey, bacon and cheese. The unique brand of bbq chips was great, so I had a bit of mixed reactions. Mellow mushroom in Gainesville GA. Is located in a cottage like house. Very quaint. I have visited other mellow Mushrooms in Florida and this one is by far better. Went back again to Mellow Mushroom on Green St yesterday...still continues NOT to disappoint. We have always sat in the same room, but this time discovered the booths at the front of the building...we love booths. I ordered the same thing I've had the last three visits, an Italian hogie(or grinder as it's called in Western Massachusetts but very few other places). It was delicious! My husband had the Steak & Cheese Hogie which he also enjoyed. One of the best things about this Mellow Mushroom besides the food and nice beer selection, are the servers. We have never had a bad experience with one. They have the best, friendliest attitudes...including this visit with Mary V, she was awesome! I highly recommend this place for someone that wants a casual meal in a relaxing atmosphere. read more

Horrible service came in with a party poor service failed to refill our drinks and failed to serve one of our companions her food "I ringed it in but they forgot to make it" it's honestly disgraceful to try to blame the cooks it's your job as a server to assure everyone has gotten their food. Normally I have a great experience here when i have been seated near the front of the business. However, after being seated near the bar and being forgotten... the rating has fallen to about a C. We were seated immediately, (good) our drink orders were taken and delivered promptly (good), then it started to go downhill. It was only after i was delivered the wrong food that i saw my server again. Once the food was delivered (very tasty btw :)) The bartender watched our drinks and kept them filled but our server went on break apparently because they were sitting at the bar chatting up some guy over a beer for the rest of the night. After finishing our food, we were waiting another 30 minutes before we finally had to catch another server that was running past us to get our check and some boxes. It hurts to give less than a 5 star review because normally the experience is fantastic but it isn't great being forgotten either. :( read more

Located in a restored house on Green St, in Gainesville. Hands down the best Mellow Mushroom we have ever visited. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Pizza and salads are incredible. Staff gladly acquiesced to our request for no mushrooms on on their version of a Greek salad and offered up caramelized onions on the pizza. Additional ingredient proportions were satisfactory - even the bacon!! One day we hope to actually snag a table in the restaurant, until then we will continue to enjoy our table on the porch. After traveling all day, and having a craving for some typical college food, we decided to hit up Mellow Mushroom. It was my first time ever in the establishment, but since it was my last night in Georgia, I obviously had to get a sweet tea. They were quick with the drink orders and refills, which was great. I also just had a cheese pizza with green peppers, and it was definitely filling in a way that pizza (besides deep dish) usually isn't. Coming from Chicago, I found this pizza definitely satisfactory, and although I'm not a pizza snob like a lot of other people in this city, but I found this to be on-par with my expectations. The only thing I'd have to say about the pizza is that they could lay off the parmesan a little bit - it gets a little salty. The service was great, I didn't feel weird about sitting there in December with just shorts and a sweatshirt on (casual ambiance), but I think you could also get away with going there for a first-dinner-date type thing. Decent experience tonight. Tried the Maui Wowie pizza and it is pretty awesome! Ordered a couple 'Lil' salads which are decent sized. A lot larger than we expected. Hard to find better pizza than Mellow Mushroom. Only complaint was we had to ask for a refill on water two times. Other than that it was good. read more

Straight up I have to give them five stars. We did have and issue, but to their defense it was REALLY LOUD in there. We ordered a House without Peppers and Sausage. What we got were extra peppers. They thought we said pepperoni. The second pizza we received was outstanding and well worth the wait. The pretzels were fantastic. Mellow Mushroom is the only place I will eat pizza anymore. It seems quality has decreased at this location. Have eaten here several times over the years, but very disappointed today. The wings that I used to enjoy were not fresh, small and dry, and the jerk sauce tasted like it came out of a bottle. I won't be ordering those again. The only other items we ordered were salads, and they took almost an hour. We didn't even have time to eat them. They also left off one of my ingredients. You need to tell your staff to communicate with each other better because I was told I would not need to pay for a different pizza by the hosts when I did not enter my dietary restrictions (I offered to pay the difference, said it was okay) and when I picked up the corrected order I had a very rude interaction with one of the kitchen staff who needed up walking away mid conversation. None of that would have happened if the hosts and kitchen would communicate. Super fucking rude experience from all your staff, not here for it won't be coming back. your kitchen doesn't know how to distribute fucking toppings anyways as if that's a difficult task. If I could read it lower than one star I would. We've lived in the area now for seven months. And every time we order from mellow mushroom it's a disappointment. Unfortunately when it's good it's good, but most of the time it's not their excuses for slow delivery burnt pizzas cold pizzas are endless. I wish they would realize that at some point somebody else is going to come in to town and do a much better job. I think the biggest problem with my visit was the wait. I knew we were going to have a big group so we tried to make a reservation, but they don't take any. We were a group of 20 and we went on a Friday evening. At first the staff made it seem inconvenient that we were there, but the manager came and let us know that they were working as fast as they could. The food was good and our waitress did fantastic with a group of 20. The food did take about an 45-60 minutes to make it to the table. I would come back, but maybe not with a big group. read more

I visited Gainesville this past weekend for the first time and I was VERY impressed with Mellow Mushroom. From it's decor, service, warmth, inexpensive drinks, and most of all it's pizza. We ordered two pizzas, the Maui and Mellowterranean. My favorite was the Mellowterranean. It is by far the best thin crust pizza I have had in my life.
