Mellow Mushroom is by far my favorite pizza place, maybe of all times. The atmosphere is fun and hip, the service is excellent and the food is delicious! They have so many pizza toppings that everyone will be satisfied, and they sell it by the slice - which by the way are HUGE slices! They are also pretty cheap for the quality of their food! I can go with a friend and get 2 slices and 2 drinks for under $10 very easily. If you like pizza and hip, different restaurants, Mellow Mushroom is definitely the place to go! read more

My daughter convinced me to come today. We're in town for a doctors appointment for her post op. I wasn't sure what to expect upon walking in through a huge wooden door. We were seated and got our drinks and on to ordering. We both ordered the lunch salad and slice of pizza which included our drinks in the price. Oh my goodness, the salad camp out pretty quick and wow the house dressing is delicious. Now on to the main reason we came in, the pizza, very very good!! Already shown my love in a previous review, but I feel moved to comment on a few of the more negative reviews. #1. The food at Mellow far surpasses any other pizzeria around, so naturally, you're going to pay a bit more for quality ingredients and mouth-watering pies. There are plenty of other pizza joints in the area where you can get what you pay for. If you're prepared to pay minimal fees for minimal quality, go to one of those other places, and let those of us who love gourmet pizza enjoy ourselves. =) #2. Mellow is a laid back place where the staff will make you feel like a friend if you actually put yourself in a positive place to chill out and eat some delicious food. If you're in a hurry and don't bother getting to know the people who are busting their ass to get your top-notch food to your table in a timely fashion, go to a buffet such as Ci-Ci's. Pies festering under the glow of "warming lights" that little Johnny has had his fingers all over sounds like the perfect place for someone on the go! You won't find truffle oil drizzled over your slices or fresh basil sprinkled atop your pies, but you will definitely avoid being disappointed by the lack of hospitality from the staff and the price is probably just right. The worst pizza that I ever ate. It was so thin that you could not pick it up with your hands. They must get a lot of pizzas out of a dough ball by stretching it so thin. Pretty noisy place. I ordered 2 cheese slices and water. Bill came $6.69! I told them on the phone they quoted $1.95 a slice. I did not order whole wheat crust but got it anyhow. I dislike whole wheat. I was so disappointed as I had wanted to go there for a long time. Won't go again. It looks like it is run by very young people. read more

I ordered lunch for myself and two other co-workers today, I ordered the Holy Shitake pizza. OMG that was the best pizza I have ever had!! I also ordered a regular cheese pizza as well as a cheese and pepperoni calzone with extra cheese, they loved it said it was made just how they wanted it. The Greek salad with BBQ Tofu and Herb Vinaigrette, was to die for. We will for sure, be ordering lunch from here more often! The only complaint was that the drinks we wanted could not be delivered, 1 coke and an unsweet tea, but the food was hot, and definitely filled us up. It was delivered with-in 40 mins which is also a plus when you can't leave the office to do a pick-up order. If you have never had Mellow Mushroom you should definitely give it a try, I promise you will not be disappointed. If you are they do their best to make it right. Just wanted to say thank you to the entire staff. My family and I evacuated Florida and have spent the week in Gainesville. Lindsey and I have been in every day. It has been our few hours of solitude out of the house filled with kids and family. Only to find an awesome staff, who in turn,treated us as family. I ordered a calzone and it was delicious, I love the look of this restaurant and its location. The reason for 3 stars is because the waitress was constantly forgetting what I had asked for and there was a waitress I saw sitting at the table next to me on her phone for a very long time. It's hard to believe that I'm rating MM at 3 stars. Been going there for decades, the last 4 yrs in Gainesville. I think they are cutting corners and not obliging customers as they once did. Their calzones use be laid our in an oval, now they've gone straight and definitely cut back on size. I ask for my pretzels to made thick and chewy. Used to be no problem. Now, I'm totally ignored. Short statement: Overpriced limp and scorched pizza, with poor service. The pizza took 1 hour and 15 minutes from placement of order until it hit the table. The wait staff congregated at an empty table in our section, and kicked back with soft drinks, cell phones, and gossip style conversation. We learned who was sleeping with who, who had broken up, who got drunk, and who was pregnant ... it might have been entertaining ... like a soap opera ... but my daughter was there to hear it all. Bad on you. Particularly since they kept it up after asking them to stop or move elsewhere. Pizza wasn't worth waiting for, being both scorched on the bottom and absolutely limp at the same time. The price of a pizza was also outrageous. I paid three times what I would have for a nice pie from Papa John's. The only word for this restaurant is: Dreck! read more

Gaines Vegas typical hangout. If your older and at the bar you might get waited on before the young group that walked in behind you. And I'm not easy to miss Mr. Bartender...remember, you were the one hitting on my wife before I walked in 10 minutes late. Pizza is way too costly for the normal family of four. Parking is terrible if the restaurant is full or surrounding offices. The only thing good they make is a great Greek Salad. Service at the bar is terrible -- you have to flag someone down to get waited on. It helps to be male since most of the bar staff are female. The guy who sat down beside me 10 min after I arrived got waited on and served before me. When I finally got my pizza slice, it was cool and tasted like cardboard. Too hungry to send it back. Long waits, slapdash service and a loud, obnoxious atmosphere. These are the things that await you at the Mellow Mushroom. The Mellow Mushroom is a Gainesville tradition, of course. I can remember going to their old location quite frequently as a child, and even holding the high score for quite some time on their Galaga machine. I cherish these memories. It's just a shame that their modern location holds none of that joy. The first thing you'll notice, if you're disabled, is that the handicapped entrance is located between the dumpster and the johns. Right off the bat you're feeling disappointed in the place and there's no reason for a business to be laid out in such a way in this day and age. After waiting for what feels like a geologic era for your seat, you're lead past a winding, tightly packed cluster of tables to your seat. My advice is to immediately order alcohol. You'll need it for the food to come. Here the Mushroom is helpful in offering you a wide array of the most common beers that you're sure to find elsewhere, at better restaurants. If you made the mistake of coming with guests, prepare to abandon all hopes of having a conversation as the cramped conditions and loud music make such dreams the foolish delusions of madmen. When your food finally arrives - long after the kingdoms of man have fallen to the sands of time - you should be filled with anticipation. The anticipation of complete and utter failure in the culinary arts. If you order anything more complicated than a pepperoni pie, it's going to be quite lacking. I ordered a buffalo chicken pizza expecting it to be spicy. However, it was sweet (of all things) and tasted as though it should be a dessert pizza. The chicken was cold and poorly cooked and the overall impression that it left on the pallet was abysmal. I didn't even bother asking for box. To be fair, the appetizer olive bread I ordered was just fine if you like the taste of a million salt drench olives being thrown at you by a swarm of belligerents. Really, the only saving grace that the food had was the aforementioned beer. It made the experience manageable. When my much too hefty check arrived, I was just pleased to be done with the ordeal. I paid, and tipped, and left; never to return to this abysmal place and never to sully my fond childhood memories of this most dubious of Gainesville traditions. 1/5 read more

I enjoy this location it receives a 4 star. The loudness of the seating area it gets a 3, very loud and only a couple of places inside you can really enjoy and talk. The outside seating is much better. I have had pizza many times and enjoy it ever time I am here. Friendly staff. read more

I reviewed this place in 2009 when they opened and it was a disaster, since then though we started coming back around 2015 and haven't had a bad experience at all. While the setting is an interesting converted Victorian house, the noise level and poor service detract from the overall experience. The music is so loud at times that it is very difficult to carry on a conversation. We have been here three or four times and have had consistently mediocre to poor experiences. Why do we return? Food was great - we had the beer cheese pretzel bites which were amazing, and we shared a large pizza with feta cheese and bacon. When we arrived, the hostess asked if we would like to sit outside on the heated patio. The restaurant was busy, so we decided to sit outside. There was only one other couple seated outside, so we were excited to enjoy some peace and quiet. We waited for a good 15 minutes just to get a waitress. Food is great, but beware of getting forgotten if you opt for outdoor seating. read more

UPDATE: One of the owners called me right after I emailed them a complaint. He was very nice, understand and apologetic for our experience. He insured me of how important the customers are to mellow mushroom and we will be going back to give it another try. Besides the kids meal our food was great and he just completely made up for the issue we had with our server. Our waitress was less than helpful when It came to getting my 4 year old a kids menu, suggesting a beer that was a dark, and after asking If my father wanted his meatballs and salad at the same time as everyones food she brought his meatballs out before all the other food was ready, and the kids meal last. My daughters macaroni kids meal was disgusting looking and the taste matched she only ate the apples (5.50 for apples what a deal...). When the waitress came by she noticed she hadn't eaten it, my daughter said its disgusting, the waitress then laughed and began to walk off. I said no, my mother tried it is really gross, she said nothing and walked off. I am sorry but if someone doesn't like the food and it is clearly uneaten, then your job as a waitress is to try and fix the situation, new food or take the item off the bill. She did neither, nor did she apologize. Pizza and meatballs were good, but the overall experience with our waitress left us feeling less than impressed. read more

Philosophers pizza is great...i like that i can run in at lunch and buy a slice not a whole pie...trust me one slice of there pizza is satisfying...we like to go on weekends and can watch the games as well....good service. Magnificent! Pizza perfection with a great atmosphere. The best mellows cook thier pies little long for that very slight burnt crust flavor. This one cooks pizza to perfection. Love the Shroom. This one is one of the more interesting as its run out of a old plantation style house which adds great character. The atmosphere is great and bar service is friendly. We've only done take out because we have two little ones and aren't ready to take on that adventure yet. We were traveling for my son's wedding in Lula, Ga and decided to host a Mellow Mushroom rehearsal dinner, because it's my daughter in laws favorite pizza. I dealt with Dustin, who was absolutely wonderful. They delivered our dinner hot, on time and and so accommodating.
