Found a starfish.

Mellow Ventures is too notch. Our trip was cancelled, rebooked, cancelled, and rebooked and "modified heavily" due to weather systems in the Keys that week. Captain Chris was flexible, knowledgeable, honest, and helpful in getting us out on a trip that would finally work. I can't say enough good things about him and our experience. It wasn't exactly how he and I had planned it, but we still had a great time. Thanks again for giving us a great time without much to work with.

Pure serendipity that we found their brochure at the airport. This charter was exactly what we were looking for and was the highlight of our trip. We were a group of 5 with a tight schedule due to a conference. Luckily they were free when we needed them and booked a half day tour, explaining they would cater activities to our desires and the weather/tide conditions. They also provided ice, coolers, snorkeling equipment, and paddle boards. Captain Lisa was great - super friendly and chill and helped us load our provisions onto the boat. She took us to a snorkeling spot but unfortunately the weather/water conditions were not cooperating. We then went on to Little Mulllet Key and had THE BEST stand up paddleboarding tour. Our group was varied in experience and athletic ability but Lisa worked with all of us. We saw some big sting rays, paddled through the mangrove tunnels, saw lemon sharks, fish, and tons of birds. The biology/ecology lessons along the way were great and Lisa took some pics of the group. On the ride back, we stopped in the dolphin playground and drifted for a bit along with a pod. The water was gorgeous and the dolphin closeups were amazing.

First time paddleboarding--we went out with Scruffy who was awesome. Went out to some channels which were very calm to paddle through--saw some fish, little crabs and a nurse shark! The tour takes pictures at no charge which is sweet. Scruffy also gave us little a tour along the coast of key west--he was awesome and informative--gave good tips about bars+happy hours to hit up along the water. We stopped for a swim towards the end of the tour. Recommend it. Don't forget to tip $!

From our boat tour with Cap't Lisa!

This was a fantastic tour of the keys. Capt Lisa was so warm and nice and taught us all how to paddle board. She made it so much less intimidating and all of us were able to do it. She gave us tons of interesting info about the mangroves we paddled through and the plants and animals we saw. We saw dolphins right next to the boat, baby sharks under our boards and tons of different birds. She customized the trip to what we wanted to do so we would get the most out of it. It was relaxed and fun and a wonderful afternoon! I'd love to spend everyday like this. They also made it super easy. We just showed up and they took care of the rest.

I have only ever kayaked on lakes or very gentle rivers before, and have always enjoyed it so much. But with the high winds and convoluted terrain, this was not beginner-friendly. More disappointingly, when I asked my guide, Heather, for advice about how to stop my boat from drifting, she retorted: "Oh, so you weren't paying attention when I explained that earlier!?" I WAS paying attention, but I needed further explanation. Why should I be shamed for not understanding everything immediately? Why shouldn't I ask a clarifying question on a beginner tour? The guide seemed totally disinterested in watching how people were doing, going so fast ahead, even when other people were far back behind her. The company really needed to have a second guide in the back, or to have us divided into more/less experienced groups. I would have much rather been in a gentler group and gone a shorter distance but felt safe than to be belittled and struggling to maneuver my way. It was just such a negative vibe for something that should have been uplifting and fun. In positive news, it is really beautiful, and (as a scientist myself), I found the information about the ecology fascinating. I just would recommend a different tour to anyone who isn't very confident in their skills.

Why 5 stars? Because a private paddleboarding adventure is pretty awesome, it turns out…read more --- --- --- This was such a cool experience! My wife and I have been on group paddleboard tours and we've been paddleboarding where you're just sent out on your own for a certain amount of time, but we've never had a guided tour like this. It was cool because we'd never been to Key West, while our guide knew the lay of the land like it was her own backyard. She gave us a path and a purpose, which I really liked. When we go out on our own, we tend to just aimlessly wander, but that definitely did not happen here! Not only did we have a path, but we were educated about different things along the way, and just about life in Key West, in general. Because I'm a terrible person, I don't remember our guide's name, but she was awesome! The only issue I had was getting our trip booked. I actually purchased the Yelp deal, which saved us some money, but I didn't want to end up booking online because I'd already paid for the Yelp deal. I kept calling them over and over again, but never heard back from anyone after leaving messages. Finally, the morning we planned on arriving, we called and someone actually answered the phone. He was woken up by the call being forwarded to his phone and sounded frazzled. He said he'd been working at a bar until the early hours of the morning and that his partner was supposed to have answered the phone. Regardless of that weirrdness, he quickly called around and got us a guide before calling me back to let me know when to show up - which was ASAP. It definitely wasn't the most conventional way to book an appointment, but we made it and really enjoyed it!

Such a unique Key West experience that I won't soon forget!…read more I've been paddle boarding numerous times but never on an organized tour. After reading a bit more info on this biz's site, we decided to take an afternoon tour which started at 1:30. SUP Key West also offers morning and sunset tours, but this ended up being perfect timing for us - we could sleep in and let brunch digest before hitting the water. Now, for the tour. Our guides name was Brian, the owner of SUP Key West. Booking online was a breeze and $45 per person. Once we arrived, we met the other two in our group, grabbed some life jackets (optional to wear but must be on the board) and took to the water. I love being active but wouldn't consider myself "outdoorsy." That being said, I don't know too much about the mangroves or the ecosystem surrounding the Keys so this whole experience was really eyeopening. While we drifted through the mangroves, Brian talked about how they were formed, gave more info on the birds we spotted and pointed out the sea life, even picking up and passing around sea cucumbers, jellyfish, sea stars and algae. To top it all off? We saw a nurse shark! His enthusiasm for the environment was contagious and had me eager to learn more. About halfway through, he asked if we had immediate plans and since we didn't, we took the long way home so the tour actually lasted a little over two hours. It wasn't a huge workout until the very end when we were battling some winter wind. By the end of it, I was exhausted. Brian brought along a cooler of water which was nice in case you need some hydration along the way. All in all, a different activity to do while in Key West. This was my boyfriend's first time paddle boarding and left a great impression so hopefully I can get him on the water a little bit closer to home next time. Whether a local or a tourist, I'd say it's definitely worth taking part in.

Bahia Honda means "Deep Bay" and refers to the deep bays of Bahia Honda Key. It is pronounced Bah -EE-ah Own da. It is 30 feet deep which makes it the deepest natural harbors in the Keys. It was established in 1961and is known for its history as part of Henry Flagler's "Overseas Railroad" and is now known as the Overseas Highway. In 1935 there was a huge hurricane that destroyed the railroad. What makes this park so unique is that it is encompasses an offshore island and it sits between Ohio Key and Spanish Harbor Key close to the west end of the Seven Mile Bridge. The park has 524 acres of lush beauty. It is open everyday of the year from 8am - sundown and the fee is $8 per vehicle. Clean restrooms and outdoor showers available. There is so many things to do such as snorkeling, swimming in the gin clear crystal waters, hiking out to the Old Bahia Bridge, birding, camping, boat rentals, a concession stand, rent a cabin, kayak, fishing or visit the nature center. We found parking easily and made our way out on the trail to the Old Bridge. The views from up here are panoramic. After viewing the bridge and the views, we really could not resist taking a dip at one of the beaches. The water was still warm enough to swim in November and it felt fantastic. What I love most about the state park beaches along the Keys are all the marine life you can view while swimming or just walking on the beach. No place like it! If I could give this park 10 stars I would, it is that incredible. Cannot wait to come back again.
