This diner is a hidden gem in Melrose. I discovered it a while ago but it is one of my go to places for breakfast or lunch now. The folks running the place are very friendly. The food is excellent! My favorites are the Sausage Benedict and the Reuben Sandwich. I prefer to spend my money at a Mom & Pop place rather than a chain and I feel good supporting this small business that is providing a great value for the dollar to the local community. read more

Based on the food alone, this is probably more of a 3-3.5 star place, but I'll round up to 4 due to the great service. A large group of us came in on a Sunday at 1 pm and were seated immediately. The servers were funny, a little sassy and very hospitable. The atmosphere is bland and colorless. Definitely leaves something to be desired. Nothing noteworthy about it. That's how I felt about the food also. I got the turkey reuben which came with a bag of Lays chips on the side (or an option for fries). The reuben was totally serviceable but I could have EASILY made the same exact thing at home. A couple of my friends got fries and I tried a few - definitely very delicious. The breakfasts appear to be the way to go, although none of the breakfast items looked like anything I couldn't make at home (yet again). That being said, $6 for a reuben and a bag of chips is a steal. And they gave us free baklava at the end of the meal which was pretty good. Outstanding. I went here on a Thursday around 10 a.m. and was greeted/seated right away. I got the Greek Omelet and it was LOADED with spinach and tomatoes. The place was spotless and the waitress was a delight. I am so thankful a great breakfast place is within walking distance of my apartment. I am consistently let down by restaurants in Melrose, but this place has restored my faith! I will definitely be back. This is the old coffee time. It is super clean and food is great! I'm here now and food served quickly. Just recently opened and I'm excited it has a full menu. Same good feeling of coffee time but new tables and a counter to sit at. Chris owner of coffee time still comes in the mornings. Server tells me he doesn't know how to retire! Nice staff and it's not a knock on anyone who works there but the food is.....not the most impressive. Scrambled eggs was something I could've made except not as good. It was dry and tasteless as if no cream or salt was added. These guys get a pass as it was their first Saturday open. Service was extremely slow. Order was taken quickly and the coffee kept being refilled, but it took forever for the food to come after we had ordered. It seems like they don't have a good process on executing orders. The people at the counter seemed to be served quickly. When the food arrived I thought it was good. Portions are huge. Also, I think you just sit down wherever there is an open spot when you arrive, but there is no one directing people when you get in. I'll be back at some point. Delicious food and great service! Best breakfast in town BY FAR! Fast, affordable and DELICIOUS! They have daily specials for the person who likes to try new things. Everything you'd expect from a local diner. Extremely friendly staff who greet you as soon as you walk in the door and are eager to top off your coffee every chance they get. The menu is vast - just about any breakfast food you can imagine (short of waffles, I think) and a whole array of lunch and dinner entrees I haven't even begun to explore because, to me, diner = breakfast. The prices are very low, especially considering how enormous their portions are! The omelets especially, easily 2 meals worth if not more. The food is good - it won't blow you away and it's certainly not fancy - but everything is cooked well, if maybe a touch underseasoned (better than over though, amirite?!). Definitely a no-frills, true to its name diner; hearty, homestyle food served with a smile and a paper napkin. Living in the neighborhood, I know I will be back many, many times. read more

Can't recommend this place enough! I live 25 minutes way, but on those Sundays when I wake up craving a delicious breakfast at a restaurant far away from the bougie brunch crowds, Melrose Diner is worth the trip. Excellent food which came quick considering I am two cities over. Steak tips, rice and salad as I requested and tasted great. I would recommend their club sandwich to anyone. Sitting here at Melrose Diner after having waited over 45 minutes for our breakfast to arrive. The "chef" cooks one item at a time. And they have managed to forget multiple items from our order. Arrived at 10:30 on a gorgeous Sunday morning. Seated immediately despite a full house. Our waitress, Debbie, was very friendly and accommodating. The cook was very rude, seeming to target specific waitresses. And our food was put down on the table at 11:45.... We were told that a cook hadn't shown up, so I get that it wasn't optimal circumstances, but waiting over an hour for a meal at a diner is a it much. It was good, a little too salty maybe, but not worth that kind of wait (with profuse apologies but no reduction of total bill). Just opened. Went here on the recommendation from my daughter. Had breakfast and unlimited coffee. Food and coffee were hot and good. Wait service was right on top of things. Convenient, cheap, and accommodating, can't go wrong with this fantastic diner. The service is quick and reliable, and even take out is better than most. Googled My Diner Melrose this morning and called this establishment by mistake. Once I realized the mistake, I called back to cancel my order (11 minutes later). I explained that google brought up this number and how I won't make it again. I also apologized. I found out I was the second one to make the mistake today as well. Over an hour later, the owner called my work phone screaming at me, demanding I pay for the $15 order. The lack of professionalism was appalling and the fact that he thought he could bully a customer into paying for something they didn't eat is astounding. I will never go back to this establishment again and I use to go weekly. My Diner on Main Street has better food, better customer service and at a cheaper price anyways.
