The service was otherwise perfect. They call it the Cheers of diners and I know why. They have a bunch of different coffee offerings. When visiting be mindful that this is a CASH ONLY establishment, however an ATM is on-site, if needed. When it comes to parking, we parked across the street and walked over, which wasn't too bad. This place would be 5-stars but what is the deal with a diner that doesn't have a bathroom? How is this legal? In fact, the entire Peabody/Salem area seems to be tempting you to urinate on it. There are almost no public restrooms anywhere. Weird vibe. Anyway, the space here is super cozy/cramped, in the best way. Don't bother patronizing this business, as the boss-cook is overly independent and if you are not satisfied with the way the food requested is not to your liking, his attitude is to tell you not to bother coming in anymore instead of remaking it. Eggs cost $5.00 per dozen in stores on average, but for the cost of 2 dozen eggs, you will get a small breakfast with just one egg, that will have to be to your liking the way THEY make it. Also, to get a small order of fries, you are REQUIRED to buy a main plate with it, and don't complain, the boss won't want to have you as a customer anymore. read more

My daughter and I were visiting Salem when the corona virus was just really starting up. We were leaving our hotel and drove around a half hour the opposite direction to go here. We were not at all disappointed. The staff was small and friendly. The food came out quickly and nicely made. I have a sensitive stomach and was able to drive home with no issues. In the heart of Peabody Square behind the courthouse is the modest but spunky diner. Set aside defunct train tracks which no longer carries trains, The Little Depot Diner harkens back to Americana with a blues theme and vibe from music to decorations. The space is small and cramped, but it forces customers to be intimate and to interact with one another. The staff are pleasant and cheery. Don't want to stay? Order take out! The food? Well how the hell do you go wrong with kolbasz (Hungarian style sausage) within an English muffin covered with egg, smothered with melted cheese? The bacon is a perfect crispy without being burnt or dry, the coffee is found to be enjoyable black (just like my soul). The price is very affordable as well. read more

Wow, thank you Yelp! We were visiting the area and found this place. It's a small little diner - former rail car from Worcester. It has a rock n roll decor with some great music playing. It only has swivel stools next to the counter. If you are a very big / tall person you may have trouble sitting comfortably. Try to visit early if you want to get a seat without waiting. Coffee was good and hot. The food was excellent! We both had the House omelette with homemade Hungarian Sausage, onion and peppers. It was the best sausage I have ever had. Must be the no preservatives and fillers. The home fries were sliced potatoes cooked to perfection. Service was excellent. I loved the true Mass local feel. It has everything you wish for, big plate full of delicious food, decorations and music just so right, plus a very friendly waitress. Three tips: Home made sausage is a must order. Get bacon on the side instead of cut into omelette. We went on a Friday morning so we got seats right away. However, with this kind of food, be prepared to wait during weekend rush hours. read more

A lot of times I request well done homefries and only get them well done on rare occasions.. --- the owner reached out to me on here and told me they would pay more attention to our requests. I tell him that would be nice and I just placed an order... I get my order today and the homefries aren't cooked at all! Here I am in my kitchen cooking them while my food is getting cold. How have I gone so long without reviewing?! Well, a few weeks, but still, usually I'm better than that, this place certainly deserves it! If you can't tell by my Yelp profile, I am an out-of-towner, one of them damn Yankees, so we were up in the area visiting for a wedding/Halloween Salem stuff. My sister and I happen to watch Triple D a little more than the average person (we even met Guy Fieri once, and it was very difficult not to laugh), but any new town we're in we check out where he's been. We came across this place and could not be any happier because what a truly delicious meal! In a retrofitted train car next to some old abandoned railroad tracks, TLDD has a bit of a wait on the weekend, about a half hour, bu they invite you to have a cup of coffee while you wait. Trust me, the wait is worth it. I ordered the Monte Depot and also a shake. The Monte Depot is ham, scrambled eggs and cheddar cheese wedged between two of the most delicious slices of French Toast. One bite and I was so warmed. Why does that saying go that food is the way to a man's heart? Because if some random person were to bring me this and get down on one knee I may be inclined to say yes. The shake was decadent and sweet and it really filled me up. Oh, also, if you're with a kid and they order pancakes it comes in little train shapes. Very cute! What is there to say about The Little Depot Diner? To say that the staff is friendly is an understatement. I believe I heard that their goal was to have the place feel like "Cheers." If that's true they're pretty darn close, because the first time we walked in there we felt welcomed, like we'd been going there for years. Excellent staff. Excellent service. The food is well-cooked, delicious and beyond par for a diner. The pancakes are to die for, the home-made bread is just the right consistency and the house-made sausage...just the right combination of spices. The place is small and only offers counter seating. Came to visit on a Thursday morning. We had Avocado Toast and two farmhouses. Mine was with eggs over easy with ham and it was absolutely delicious. The food was amazing and the vibes were awesome.
