Homemade thick cut bacon and homemade Hungarian sausage

Perfect breakfast spot. Classic dinner with homemade thick cut bacon and homemade Hungarian sausage. My wife loved the eggs Benedict. Only issues are the limited seating, cash only and if your tall the stools are slightly uncomfortable, but otherwise amazing

UPDATE*** . I've been ordering from here very often.. the food lacks consistency. A lot of times I request well done homefries and only get them well done on rare occasions.. --- the owner reached out to me on here and told me they would pay more attention to our requests. I tell him that would be nice and I just placed an order... I get my order today and the homefries aren't cooked at all! Here I am in my kitchen cooking them while my food is getting cold. Ridiculous! Never ordering from them again and it's a shame because I order from them at least four times a month. Attached I will provide a picture. Smh

What a hidden little gem! We were looking for a local place to grab breakfast before heading into Salem and came across this cute little place. There's not a ton of seating, but we only had to wait a few minutes. The food was amazing and service was quick. The homemade sausage and cinnamon butter were SO good! Loved the decor and history. Would definitely come back.

This is the side view of the diner from the parking lot.

My daughter and I were visiting Salem when the corona virus was just really starting up. We were leaving our hotel and drove around a half hour the opposite direction to go here. We were not at all disappointed. The staff was small and friendly. The food came out quickly and nicely made. I have a sensitive stomach and was able to drive home with no issues. Mind you it was a four hour drive. I can't wait until I can get back into the area and visit again. Thank you for a pleasurable breakfast and all the locals that chatted with me.

The Hungary Depot (onion/pepper/kolbasz in egg with cheddar on an English muffin). I opted for beans and a side of bacon.

So looking through my pictures, I realized that this place had escaped from my figurative pen. Well today I am here to tell you about this charming little diner. In the heart of Peabody Square behind the courthouse is the modest but spunky diner. Set aside defunct train tracks which no longer carries trains, The Little Depot Diner harkens back to Americana with a blues theme and vibe from music to decorations. The space is small and cramped, but it forces customers to be intimate and to interact with one another. The staff are pleasant and cheery. Don't want to stay? Order take out! The food? Well how the hell do you go wrong with kolbasz (Hungarian style sausage) within an English muffin covered with egg, smothered with melted cheese? The bacon is a perfect crispy without being burnt or dry, the coffee is found to be enjoyable black (just like my soul). The price is very affordable as well.

The famous homemade Hungarian sausage. Yum!

I went for dinner…read morewith a friend and we split three different dishes: the truffle fries, buffalo house mac and cheese, and the bourbon bacon jam burger with substituted avocado fries. The truffle fries were pretty average. The macaroni and cheese was creamy but the Ritz cracker crumble on top felt a little simplistic. I wish they had used a higher-end cracker for the crumble topping, especially given the price once you add the buffalo chicken for an extra $4. The burger had good flavor, with the pairing of brie, bourbon bacon compote, pieces of bacon, and fried onion pieces. I was really interested in the concept of deep-fried avocado slices but unfortunately they could have used some salt or something to give flavor. The atmosphere inside was fun, it felt like a beach club, with art made out of boat sails. Our server was friendly. Parking can be tricky if you're not already staying at the hotel and guaranteed parking. We found a spot on the street but during the height of Halloween season, expect to walk from a distance to get there.

Really Good Food, Just Bring a Little Patience…read more It was 68° and one of those genuinely nice summer days, so we decided to eat outside at The Village Tavern. The patio was clean, quiet, and not overly crowded. No tables packed together, no one yelling over the next table, and no need to spend the meal trying to dodge somebody else's conversation. Just a nice, comfortable spot to eat. Our server was friendly, helpful, and attentive for most of the meal. The only issue was the timing. The food took a while to come out, which was a little surprising because it really wasn't that busy. Then, after we finished, I sat with empty plates in front of me for quite a while before finally getting her attention to ask for the check. I'm not asking for instant service, but once the food is gone, I'm usually ready to begin the portion of the meal where I leave. The two waits together were enough to cost a star. Fortunately, the food was very good. We started with the cheesy pretzel bites and avocado fries. Both were delicious and both disappeared pretty quickly. The pretzel bites came with herb butter, garlic, Parmesan, mozzarella, parsley and pomodoro sauce. Lots of cheese, plenty of flavor, and exactly the kind of appetizer that's going to be gone before anyone has had a chance to decide whether they want another one. The avocado fries were crispy on the outside, creamy inside, and just as good. My wife got the French dip and really liked it. The bread was toasted perfectly, the cheese was melted just right, and the au jus was hot and flavorful. Nothing fancy about it, just a really well-done French dip. The kids both got burgers. My son ordered his with ketchup only, but it came with mayo. He was not happy about that, and I can't really argue with him. If I order ketchup only, I'm also going to be wondering how mayo managed to make the cut. My daughter got the Rodeo Smash Burger with BBQ sauce and onion rings and loved it. Everybody got fries, and they were probably the most consistently good thing on the table. Cooked perfectly and seasoned well without being ridiculously salty. You could actually taste the potato, which feels like a reasonable expectation that restaurants occasionally treat as an ambitious request. I got the Cantina Short Rib Tacos, and these were easily my favorite. Shredded short rib, lettuce, salsa verde, pico de gallo, cilantro and sour cream. The short rib was tender, rich, and full of flavor, and the toppings worked really well together. The salsa verde and pico brought some acidity and freshness, the cilantro added another layer, and the sour cream balanced out the richness of the beef. Nothing overpowered anything else. Just really good tacos with a lot of flavor in every bite. The menu also had quite a few other things that caught my attention. The Reuben in particular. I noticed it after I'd already ordered, which is always unfortunate because now I have to come back and see if it was worth ignoring everything else for. There were several other things I'd happily try too. So, four stars. The food was very good, the patio was comfortable, and the service was friendly. The food took longer than it should have on a relatively quiet day, and waiting for the check after we were already finished didn't help. Neither ruined the meal, but both were noticeable. Clean up the timing a little and this would be an easy five.
