Solid lunch option in the heart of Cooperstown. Stopped in with my wife for lunch after touring the baseball hall of fame, we were greeted warmly by the hostess and seated at the bar. We both ordered burgers. My wife got the black bean burger and I got the traditional cheeseburger. Both came relatively quickly even though the restaurant was incredibly crowded with tourists, the burgers were good. Not great, but good.My fries were a little cold.Other than that , it was a very pleasant and efficient experience. All things considered the staff performed admirably, even though they were slammed and the food tasted good.If I were back in town I'd go back.The bar area is very nice.I think happy hour or stopping by for a drink would be very pleasant. read more

Nice little restaurant and bar in Cooperstown, NY. We stopped here while visiting the baseball hall of fame. We were sat quickly by a friendly gal at the entrance. Our server greeted us shortly after and took our drink orders. We chose to eat inside as it was borderline too warm outside. They sat us next to the windows so we could people watch. While visiting the National Baseball Hall of Fame, we decided to head here for a late lunch. Our server was great and attentive. I had the "Mel's cosmo" and I can say it was one of the best cosmos I have ever had. We then started with the "Bang Bang Shrimp" app and it was delicious! The shrimp were nice and crispy and came with a yummy pico style topping and tangy sauce. I ordered the Mel's burger with the tater tots which melted in your mouth. My husband ordered the Hanger Frites which I tried and particularly liked the sun-dried tomate pesto which gave the steak a nice tang. Mel's was our first stop when we got to Cooperstown. Nice spot, good menu. Everyone was friendly. Place was pretty busy but we got a table quickly. Bathrooms could be cleaner. We dined last night at this establishment, and it was wonderful! My espresso martini was delicious and my husband equally enjoyed his Manhattan. The calamari was one of the best we have ever had, perfectly cooked, seasoned, and embellished nicely with various peppers and olives. We shared the special, which was risotto topped with scallops and crab meat. Excellent! Our server, Clint, was gracious and attentive. Other staff were also attentive during our meal. Food was pretty good. Not the best in the area, but fresh and a close location to the Hall of Fame. Server was excellent. The reason for only 3 stars was the hostess. She had a line of people and spent 10 minutes ignoring them while trading pins with 2 boys instead. Whipped out her purse on the seating podium and went back and forth with them for literally 10 minutes. Finally, we saw that there were tables clean and had to ask her to seat us. Really disappointed as it made us all feel like the establishment doesn't need or want our business. read more

Went to Mel's for the 1st and it was nice. It was a packed Tuesday evening for their Taco Tuesday night. The interior is well lit and I love that cause I like to see what I'm eating. Our server was nice and friendly. Now let's get to the food. We started out with the calamari app which was good. Not too salty and I like my calamari with banana peppers so it was just to my liking. I had the steak and risotto entree- the risotto was absolutely delicious and had great flavor. The steak however needed seasoning. It was kind of bland. And instead of serving it medium as I requested, it came out more of a medium rare. My husband had the fish tacos which were ok. Typical fish taco but the fish could have used a touch more seasoning. For dessert we had the almond cake (delicious) and pistachio cheesecake (also delicious). I would like to go back to try some of the other things on their menu that I hope will be more flavorful than what we had this 1st time around. read more

Food was amazing during a day trip to Cooperstown. We got the cheese curds, burger, Cobb with shrimp, and Brussels sprouts and all were very high quality and tasty. Drinks were also very good. Pricier option in the area, but worth the extra cost IMO. We also had a large party and they sat us right away. read more

Love the vibe of this place. We were visiting from Middle Tennessee for Dreamspark tournament. Service was up to par and the food was fantastic! I even was able to bring in my stroller for my baby. Definitely recommend! Fantastic espresso martini too! read more

We had the wedge salad and it was excellent. The "bowl" of clam chowder (sorry no picture) was more like a cup serving was also good. The special of the day was scallops on top of lobster risotto. The presentation was nice however it was too salty. This is coming from a person that enjoys well seasoned foods but this was pushing my taste buds and probably blood pressure. We informed our waitress of the issue and she returned it to the kitchen for a do over, the redo did not make a difference. We left just having soup and salad. read more

Fantastic! We went on a whim; had no real plan. Place was packed and very nice inside, upscale casual. The manager and hostess told us about 15-20 minutes, we grabbed a drink at the bar, 8 minutes later we had a seat! Drinks were great - Jalapeno cucumber margarita and some local beers (Ommegang Neon Rainbows). It was taco night- my son got fish tacos (yum). We had chicken nachos and the calamari as apps; so good. Chicken nachos had a little kick but the flavor was great. I ordered the chickpea, beet, and tofu curry - was honestly one of the best Indian dishes I've ever had. Spicy, which I love, just a heads up. I would certainly order this again. My wife got the Wedge Salad and she said the homemade blue cheese and salad combo was fantastic. I would 100% come back here next time I'm on Cooperstown. Upscale food and dining at a very reasonable price. Super friendly and accommodating staff. Check them out! Driving into Cooperstown to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame, I saw Mel's 22 at the corner while at the red light. I was lucky to find a parking spot right away, and decided to check it out. I was looking for a breakfast/brunch kind of place, but they do not have this type of menu. Pub fare plus a full bar menu. I opted for a burger and Iced Coffee. This is by far the best restaurant in Cooperstown that I tried! It's a really cute setting and everything is so beyond fresh. We ordered a Cobb salad, a winter harvest salad and a turkey bacon on multigrain. All I can say is wow! The salads were amazing, because of the homemade dressings! Love them! The Winter Harvest salad was unbelievable with a wonderful crunch from candied walnuts. Turkey bacon sandwich we got was so crispy and delicious with fresh avocado and bacon. What an incredible restaurant! I went here with a group of 4 and was so impressed. Our server was very nice and attentive. I tried the mac and cheese, which was to die for. As my entree, I got the baked haddock which had incredible mashed potatoes, vegetables, and lobster sauce as well. And to finish the night off, we ended with slices of chocolate cake- that was so rich. I would come back here consistently if I lived closer. read more

We stopped at Mel's for lunch while in Cooperstown for the day. Staff here are attentive but the restaurant is very busy, so inevitably a thing or two will fall between the cracks; in our case it was our water refills. That aside, we had a nice lunch on the outside patio with our dog. Bonus points for being dog friendly! I had the fish sandwich which was good and priced well at $14. My fella had the everything but the bun salad which he really enjoyed. I dipped a fry in his ranch dressing and was pleasantly surprised to taste that they make their own buttermilk ranch dressing and it was SO good. Get a salad here and order the ranching dressing, you won't regret it! read more

When I was a child this was the site of Sherry's world famous restaurant. Mel's has updated the space and the menu with style and it seems to be the hot spot in town. Our server was delightful, attentive and knowledgeable and the food and drink selections were interesting and well presented. Portions are large but not overwhelmingly so. The night I dined there the salmon bowl and the bang bang shrimp were particularly good. read more

Always like to sit at the bar and eat the bartender is always very friendly. The food is very good!

Had eaten here a few years ago. Back in town and went in for a late lunch. We stood at the hostess stand for a couple minutes while two waitresses sat at the bar. A bartender approached us and informed us that they were closed from 3-4 and couldn't seat us. It was a busy Saturday afternoon, not sure why they would turn people away (weekend with baseball and tons of people in the area). If you're going to have specific hours, at least put a sign somewhere. Traveled a lot and been to a lot of places and never heard of any place closed in the middle of the day. read more

Mel's was definitely the spot to be on a Friday night in Cooperstown as they were book full of reservations as soon as we got into town, but the bar was full service and first come first serve so we chose this adventure. The bar service was great! My husband and I both got cocktails, me with the cucumber jalapeño Margarita which was extremely refreshing and had me boozy wishing only a few sips. For the price you cannot beat that. My husband got the Manhattan and said his was standard fair. We started with the potstickers appetizer which had a crunch yet doughy outside and was served with seaweed salad and they were great. They weren't mind blowing, but definitely an appetizer I would get again. Our entrees came with a side salad and whatever balsamic dressing they put on the salad was fantastic! We both got the special which was a coconut crusted halibut served over rice and with a mango slaw. The rice was delicious and there was some type of liquid underneath it that the rice soaked up. The halibut was tender and the coconut crust paired wonderfully with it. The meal truly hit the spot. All in all Mel's was a solid place and it's clear it's frequented by the local. Great spot - Just at the end of busy main street- Wonderful outdoor seating - Staff helpful - Restaurant interior is beautifully decorated for an upscale experience while shorts and t's outside are perfectly fine! Great for groups - we were 6 and no trouble getting a table before heading to a game- They do not accept reservations and will sit you without the whole party was there (much appreciated as one member of the party had to drop kids off at the field first) - Parking is on the street but plenty of street parking on two sides of the building- Honestly the perfect spot for a great meal! read more
