Went to Sunday Brunch at the 1909 twice this month, with amazing food and service both times. The menu has a great variety of food+drink, would HIGHLY recommend the lump crab benedict and cinnamon monkey bread! Staff was always incredibly attentive and gracious. A gem in Cooperstown!

Chilled Seafood platter, lobster, crab, oysters and shrimp!

Our first time here was perfect! I had made reservations for my wife's birthday based on the innovative menu and great wine list. We were not disappointed! She had the duck egg ravioli and I had crispy octopus for appetizers. Then she when will the chilled Seafood Platter for an entree and I went with the rack of lamb. We shared a nice Sauvignon Blank with dinner and topped it off with S'mores Pannacotta and Key Lime Semifreddo. Everything was awesome and the wait staff very attentive.

This is one of my very favorite special occasion, places in town. I've requested it for my birthday dinner, in fact!

Stayed at the Inn so very convenient to have a nice steakhouse downstairs. The room is small. Service was efficient. Our food was very good.

We didn't walk up to the front but I heard people were going to sit at the bar. Good draft beer selection and wine and cocktails. Great rotating food menu. I had the bolognese and it was the best I ever had! Focaccia bread was delish! My husband had. A pizza that he said was amazing as well. Prices were a little expensive for small portions but I would definitely go again! You pay for the delicious food and good service! My kids had the shrimp pasta and hanger steak. They both loved their meals too!

It's been a lifetime since they moved up, and over the years since the migration from the city to here became more substantial. Some were concerned that the culture would change and change is always difficult for some. And change isn't universally good. Sometimes things are just fine the way they are. I'm happy to report that the world has not ended, and while there are more than a handful of downstate customs that transplant poorly all in all from my vantage point it's gone pretty well. One aspect that I personally welcome is the food. The transplants have made an economy for small farms and family food businesses that were beaten almost out of existence by industrial agriculture and federal food policy have more than a toehold. To vanquish faceless industry and the government at the same time, and in a way that makes your mouth happy and your belly full is winning. Winning in a really good way. Dazzo's exemplifies much of this for me. I'm only back a few times a year, but every time I visit I visit here. I'll bring mother, make Christmas presents out of gift certificates, other things. I enjoy them so much. The food is always delicious and clearly carefully prepared. Front of house staff and servers are fun and friendly and compliment the dishes and atmosphere so perfectly. You have more options in this part of the world than you used to, which is splendid. But this spot will always be near the top of your list. Of this I am very, very sure.

A real struggle on graduation weekend:…read more Party of 12, Saturday night. We were told that it wasn't going to be a prix fixe menu as we were a party of under 12 when the reservation was booked (we asked). It was. Selection was somewhat limited particularly for the vegetarians but the waitress said that they could swap veggies in for the trout in the risotto. They didn't. It was just risotto. Potato leek soup. So salty that it was inedible. Like sea water salty. Three of us sent it back. NY Strip. Boring and clearly hadn't been seasoned before cooking (ironic). Not quite cold but really, really close. A little tiny ramekin of chimichurri sauce which I was supposed it make it interesting or tasty I guess. It was neither. The whipped potatoes were delicious. Desert was a borderline interminable wait. And then they served gelato and sorbet to four of us. Think milkshake. A thin, runny milkshake, approaching soup. The food runners and waitress were so embarrassed they couldn't look at us when they dropped the desert and ran. Who lets ice scream, posing as soup out of the kitchen. It used to be a quaint little place with fantastic food ... And now, an overpriced, industrial'ish place with sub-par food (although the owners are clearly cashing out, leaning on its prior reputation). Unfortunate. $85 a head, $1,500 all in with drinks and tip.

And it's not just the creative food, the outstanding wines, or the accommodating service. It's the one thing that all great restaurants have: an absolute commitment to making sure each customer has a fantastic experience. You can serve all the tasty food you want, but without that commitment, you'll always be good and not great. It's something these folks understand. I'm guessing it's also why everyone - and I mean everyone - we saw in the restaurant during our last visit had a big smile on their face. So yeah, we could recommend the outrageously delicious Balkan platter, the innovative pastas, or the proteins with avant garde flavor combinations. We could talk about the deep, rich wines from Croatia and Slovenia. We could muse about the modern surroundings with rustic touches. But all of that is subservient to the main point here: This is a great restaurant operating at the top of its game. It's worth the visit. It's worth a detour. I know - the secret will be out. But these folks deserve it.
