We wanted a quick breakfast after a long morning of yard work, and the overall experience was second to none. We arrived and was seated quickly, great ambiance with a family friendly feel. Our server was outstanding, and the coffee easily the best we've had. The pork chops were delicious, very well seasoned, and with the eggs, hash browns and toast was a great breakfast addition. The Pancakes were very nice, soaked up the syrup nicely. The grits were made fresh and was definitely worth the wait. Best breakfast we've had in a while.

Great breakfast! Our first time there and would definitely recommend for breakfast. We were in town for a couple of hours and just got done with our appointment and it was still breakfast time. It was recommended to us so we decided to try. The ambience and setting was reminiscent of the old school diner look and feel. Our server was very friendly and our food was delivered expeditiously, which surprised us because they were extremely busy. Gotta try when in Broussard, LA.

About the only option other than Waffle House for a late night hot meal. Been twice and both times it was great! Love the atmosphere and the food was actually really good and not expensive.

Reminiscent of a 1950's style diner down to the neon lights, Mel's is such a fun place to eat! The walls are adorned in Marilyn Monroe, Elvis and James Dean photos and Norman Rockwell paintings. The food is your basic diner fare, nothing fancy but hits the spot especially if you're in the mood for Waffle House-esq grub with a much cooler vibe. I got the western omelet and hash browns and had to try one of the biscuits they claim to be the best in the world. The omelet and hash browns were decent but the biscuit truly was one of the best I've tasted. I had to stop myself from ordering another it was so good. It was very good all on it's own, too. I didn't need any butter or jelly, just savored the delicious light fluffy flavor all on it's own. Do yourself a favor and order at least one biscuit when you go! Service was not great on our visit. The waitress rushed us and forgot several items that our table ordered. I'm hoping that was just a one time thing and would go back to Mel's in spite of that, just hope to not get that same waitress-haha. Take a step back in time and visit Mel's! It's definitely worth trying!

Beware: saw a rat as big as a small dog there. Also. Charged me $6.00 for an extra waffle. They are crooks. Look over your bill.

Good basic breakfast. Fast counter service. And as advertised excellent biscuits. I'd recommend this place to anyone traveling the 90.

Great breakfast food. Huge portions. Very inexpensive. What more could you ask for? Loved the pancakes and cajun omelet. Bustling place.

This place is never a let down. Food has stayed consistent in my opinion. Open 24/7 and has a drivethru also.

My two sons, three others and I walked in to see a sign that said "Please seat Yourselves"... as we did. About 5 - 10 minutes later, we double checked the sign because honestly, it felt almost deliberate how we were ignored. After not being acknowledged AT ALL by the waitress who checked on the three tables next to us MANY times, or by anyone else working there who clearly saw us, I went up to the bar after another 10 minutes to ask if we did right to seat ourselves. The worker behind the bar said that "she" would be with us shortly as she was only one on floor. SHE (waitress) continued tending to nearby tables without even so much as a "I will be right with you." We waited several more minutes before she came by again with her back to us, tending to another table, as one of the girls softly got her attention. She basically shrugged at her saying something quick which we didn't hear clearly but something about being a minute. Then she did not acknowledge anyone else and turned her back again...THEN...we left.

I asked if they'd be able to open them and the reason given was they closed them due to customers complaining about the heat. It was around 7:30, the sun was setting, I then let my waitress know that I was cold and I sat on the patio to not be cold. She said she'd ask but they most likely would not do it. This problem is not that deep but I am anemic & I don't think its fair to us who sit outside for the sun and warmth to have to be cold due to the people who can just sit inside if they're too hot‍

He recommended several local brews and food options, and somehow we ended up having one of those conversations that makes you feel like you've known someone longer than five minutes. We talked about traveling, different beers, Louisiana, Ohio, Atlanta, and everything in between. My favorite part of the conversation had to be hearing about the brewery owned by three Japanese women who live in Brazil. That's a story I definitely wasn't expecting when I sat down for a drink! As for the food, it was incredible. I had the seafood gumbo, which came loaded with a crab cluster and crawfish tails, and I also tried the blackened alligator. Both were amazing and full of flavor. The atmosphere was great, the beer selection was excellent, and the service made the whole experience even better. I genuinely can't wait to go back to The Chime! If you're in the area, definitely give this place a try. 6/5 from me!

Who Put My Catfish in Witness Protection?…read more This place used to be one of my favorite spots in Broussard. Great atmosphere, great service, and my family ate here so often they should have considered putting our name on a booth. Unfortunately, the menu changes have turned this into a completely different experience. Let's start with the catfish. Somewhere between the old menu and the new one, the catfish fillets entered witness protection. What arrived on my plate looked less like catfish and more like a collection of heavily breaded suggestions of catfish. I've seen french fries wider than these strips. If there was actual fish inside, it was hiding better than Bigfoot. The spicy shrimp wrap also appears to have retired from the spice business. It now contains enough pepper jelly to qualify as a dessert, and so much of it that the wrap becomes a soggy engineering failure halfway through eating it. Then there are the onion rings. Calling them onion rings feels generous. They looked like someone lost a ring toss tournament and served the equipment. The frustrating part is that I genuinely loved this place. I live nearby and used to come here regularly. I even tried reaching out through the website before posting this review and never received a response. I hate leaving negative reviews, but somebody needs to stage an intervention for that catfish. This is Acadiana. We have standards. And right now, that catfish is filing a formal complaint against whoever approved it.
