Open 24/7 is helpful. This was always the drunk feast after the bars. Drunk, the mushroom Swiss burgers with fries wit wets oh yea. Don't go there if you want to have a good time. My friends and I all decided to go eat dinner there around 7:00 on a Saturday night. We hadn't seen each other in over a year. We were catching up and sharing some laughs, when the regional manager came up to us and told us that she had several complaints about our volume being too loud. I'm very much a rule follower and I consider myself very respectful around others, and I feel as though I would've told my friends to dial it down before we got out of hand. But, nevertheless, we quieted are voices from then forward. We were already seated in the back corner both of the restaurant, and the place was open seating, when an older couple was seated in the both next to us. The regional manner was their waiter, and my friend overheard within minutes of them being seated that they were complaining about us. The manager egged their comments on by saying "I can see from the look in your faces that you seem irritated." Practically talking negatively of us as customers to other customers. After overhearing there comments, we whispered the entire night. If we were being so loud, how, were we even able to over hear your negative comments? The handed us our checks before we even finished eating our meals, and didn't even get a chance to order dessert when they knew we wanted it. Our waiter was wonderful though, we tipped him well and left the building asap. This a truck stop/ diner for crying out loud, if you wanted to go to somewhere quite and conservative you should be eating at Don's Seafood. Later that night we remembered how proud our waiter was of his malt making skills and decided to order some to be picked up through there drive though. However, even that was a disappointment, from the time I ordered the malts and showed up 10 mins later to pick them, they didn't have the ready for another hour. Always my drive thru pit stop when we order take out, or if I'm craving biscuits and gravy! My car stalled on me once in the drive thru, they offered a lending hand and a free drink while I waited for my help to arrive. Worth the stop for great food and service. read more

Went here about 10 years ago && had the butterfly shrimp and loved it. Went back to Mel's just a couple days ago && ordered the shrimp (haven't been here in years) Shrimp gets to my table and its breaded shrimp !!! Like why would I pay 13$ highest price on menu for some fake shrimp that I can get at Wal Mart for 7 bucks!!! Very upset. Won't be returning. Fries were not good. Diner food it is generally what you would expect and it's what you get. Never horrible but never great. The burgers are big a average tasting. The biscuits are also better than average. The breakfast items are equally as good. My only complaint is what they call gravy that they put on rice or potatoes it's not good. They cook meats for lunch that they could make extra gravy from. Mother day disaster.... brought my wife and son here for Mothers day and who's meal do they mess up on. My wife's meal of course then the waitress more or less tells my wife it is her fault she got the wrong food. The waitress takes it back, now she ignores our table. When my wife's food comes back they have simply picked the mushrooms off of the bacon and cheese omelet she ordered. I brought this to the attention of the man who "runs" the place. Best spot to just chill and eat. Service is wonderful if you can get an awesome waitress. Service is usually horrible with new servers but that's expected. Fantastic diner. Hamburgers, plate lunches sandwiches etc They are famous in the area however for their breakfast and especially for their biscuits. Staff is always friendly and helpful. In short Mel's is just plain good place to go. read more
