Tasty breakfast On a cold, rainy morning I didn't want to venture far from my hotel so called up Mel's for a carryout breakfast order. By the time I arrived it was all ready so I picked up and headed home. Had the pancakes and they were quite good. The bacon was also delicious. Just visted Mel's last week as I was visiting from Dallas and we ate there two days in a row.This is the true definition of a Diner, the staff was amazingly Friendly and gave us great service, the food was exactly like you would expect from a diner and i left not only very full but also with cash still in my pocket as the prices are very reasonable. This is a quaint little place that truly lives up to the "diner" in the name. They serve breakfast all day, and it is pretty good standard breakfast without being greasy. The waitress was good, she really knew the menu. Service was fast. One drawback is because it is so small inside you might have to wait a few minutes for a table, and there is little standing room. They claim to be famous for their banana splits but I didn't have one. read more

I had written out a list of food places I wanted to visit before I left Kentucky, and this was one of them. I almost forgot but drove by today on my way to laser port, and decided to stop by. I have very few negatives for this place, which Ill list, but TONS of positives! First, their food was probably one of the best I've ever had in my life. I've never eaten cheese sticks that good. Or french fries. I seriously don't know what it was about the fries, I couldn't put my finger on it, but they had this baked taste that reminded me a little of toast. They were so good. Only negative was we asked the waitress to put cheese on them and they came without cheese. But, in her defense my husband had told her and he does mumble quite often, so she may not have heard him. I also go the chips and salsa just to take back to my cabin (Its like 35 minute drive from town so I needed something for snacking later) and they were quite delicious as well. Nothing special by no means, but really good. My husband got a burger (I'm a vegetarian so I didn't try it) and he said it was really good as well. He even stopped to ask them where they got their bread. He said it was the best hamburger bun he'd ever tried and one of the best burgers in general he'd ever had. I was greeted at the door by a very nice gentleman that appeared to either be the owner or management. He then gave menu's to a waitress who seated us. He was very polite and kind, and so was the waitress. The food got out really fast. I think like 10 minutes for both my husband and my own food. We were greatful because we hadn't eaten yet that day and it was 4:00! Its really lovely on the inside of the restaurant, and definitely brings you back to another decade. Only one of the waitresses looked like she was from the decade (she had made her makeup and hair look like a young teen from that era) but that wasn't at all a deal-breaker or issue. I wouldn't want to be expected to dress in costume to go to work. It was a bit pricey, but was worth the price. The menu and the prices were very similar to Huddle House,but tasted way better than Huddle House ever could. I'm probably going back in the morning before heading home. Also the little giftshop up front is pretty great, and the jukebox was wonderful. I give 5 stars, a must stop! read more

We stopped in on the second day of vacation because this place looked really cute. It wasn't very busy at 10:00 AM for tourist season. Maybe because their breakfast isn't fantastic. We had breakfast our first day here! There were six of us together. It was extremely busy but our timing was good, we got a table right away. The food was sooo good we all over ate!! Super super nice people! Breakfast anytime. The Cheeseburger and Onion Rings were awesome. My daughter got the Philly Cheesesteak with fries and loved it . Big portions and great prices. You could definitely share if so inclined. We did not have dessert but many around us did and I don't think you could go wrong with any of choices. The hubby and I tried this for the first time over the 4th of July holiday weekend. It was a cute little diner with interesting 50ish decor. We had burgers - he had a double cheese burger and I had a patty melt on the suggestion of our server. They were served fast and hot. This is not the place to hang out and linger over a meal - but it was tasty and served the purpose for a quick late lunch. We want to go back and try the breakfast at some point. We didn't have room for the ice cream sundaes, but we saw a couple and they were monsters. read more

Mel's Diner in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee is as go-to as a down home as the come. Kitschy with its cash register/souvenir corner filled with Harley-Davidson/Mel's Diner black t-shirts, coffee mugs shouting "Kiss My Grits" and even the plastic coin purses #throwback. As diners must be Mel's serves whatever it might be on the menu 24-7. Proof? At 8AM while I was ordering a veggie omelet, grits and toast,... my travelin' buddy ordered up pot roast with two eggs over easy. A second visit the next day found him ordering an egg white veggie omelet with bacon folded in. Me? I had to try Mel's famous Bette Davis BLT and fries. Killah, just killah! Our counter server both days was LaDonna who declared from the start she was a member of the G.R.I.T.S. Club (long version - Girls Raised In The South). Hoooooo Weeeeeee! Some kinda service from LaDonna, I'll say. Church talk is tossed around like a baby on a politician's lap. There's Rock 'n Roll playing on the big jukebox. The kitchen crews is johnny on the spot with orders, very little waiting, and the atmosphere is downright .... well,....you get a heapin' helpin' of Tennessee boys and girls. So let us just cut to the chase. Let me just start off by saying I have only been here for breakfast, that is it. I cannot speak for their lunches or dinners, only their breakfast. For a little tiny 50s diner, it certainly packs a wallop. While the selection might be lacking compared to other places like Denny's or Ihop, their food and flavors definately arent. I have had both the french toast and the pancakes and I would get them both again, The pancakes were a great size and very fluffy. Not too dense nor clumpy, pretty much a perfect pancake. Their bacon is done more on the crispy side but that is fine with me since they will make it the way you like it. The service is very sweet and attentive and are very personable people. The food is definitely worth going back here several times if you want a very tasty, and extremely reasonably priced. Always ask about the breakfast specials. I got 2 pancakes, eggs, and bacon for only $4.99. Honestly I would have paid more for it since it was so good. Overall i give it 5 stars for having amazing good and great service. This place is great! They have the BEST PANCAKES!! They're fluffy, buttery, tasty, everything they should be. I was in Town working for a few days and saw this on Yelp and decided to try it. The food was good, especially the breakfast. The server's were all great, kept my glass full, and checked in often. Food came out extremely fast too. The first night I went the line was out the door and it was a long wait, so I decided to try again another night. The next night I came by and was seated immediately. I got the country-style steak with mashed potatoes and gravy, fried okra, and toast. Everything was really good, and fresh. The receipt has a 15% off breakfast coupon, and trust me you'll want to save it and come back for breakfast. The breakfast was great, everything was hot and fresh. Those were the BEST PANCAKES I've ever had at a restaurant. The bacon was cooked perfectly, not floppy but not too crispy. The hashbrowns are awesome too! We had a party of 10 that they split into two booths that were across from each other. Our waitress was Sally and I'm here to tell you, she is the best waitress that I have had in a very long time. As a former waitress, I know what a tough job that is but I also have some pretty solid expectations of them. Sally was so pleasant and efficient and great at handling our full booth of kids. The food was really good. There is a GREAT variety and a pretty decent value. My husband loved the price of the kids meals. Get the onion rings. I had a chili burger. My husband had the mesquite chicken breast. He really enjoyed the flavor but did wish that it was a bigger portion. My brother-in-law and his kids loved their floats. I had a great time singing along to the music and enjoyed a relaxed meal. I highly recommend Mel's Diner. And for real, ask for Sally! read more

"Kiss my grits!" Brings back fond memories from the popular TV series, Alice, in the late 70's to mid 80's. It's a 50's style diner with similar menu of burgers, home style entree's, dogs, milkshakes and the like. The restaurant is located on Wears Valley Road or exit 3 along the Parkway in Pigeon Forge. Note that if you are driving eastbound on Wears, it is difficult to see until you are right on top of it. Its on right hand side right before the parkway. It's a popular place! There is parking all around the building, in case you have trouble finding a spot in front. Expect to wait to be seated. I found walking around the building and looking at all the art of 50's scenes and old model cars fun to look at. Inside, the walls are covered with lots of memorabilia. There is a small diner stand in front of the kitchen, but the place is mainly a long row of booths with larger tables off to the side. Staff wear shirts with the Flo's infamous catchphrase "kiss my grits". The staff hustle and have a well maintained friendly composer to keep service, meals and customers moving. The menu is fun read and all part of creating a simulated experience for the Alice TV series. We ordered "Ralph Malph Nachos" ($9.99) for a starter to share. It was loaded! The chili softens the tortilla chips making it messy to eat. I selected the "Ottis Onion Cheeseburger" ($7.99) for my meal. Burgers come with tomato, lettuce, onion, pickle and cheese (i.e. American, Cheddar or Swiss). You have your choice of a side. I choose onion rings which has an upcharge of an additional dollar. The burger was pretty good. Lots of other fun sounding menu items that I wouldn't mind trying should I be back in the area again. Pigeon Forge is very commercialized. Businesses compete with for tourists attention. Mel's Diner works. It's popularity seems to be with both tourists as well as locals. Meals were home style and good. Prices are reasonable as compared to other local restaurants. And, definitely adds a fun touch of nostalgia for those of us who can remember. read more

This little diner is the a great place to step back in time for some delicious food. It is a 50's style diner and the menu reflects that them. The menu items have fun names that reflect that era as well. One of the down sides is the clustered parking lot that gets chaotic. This is partly because it is in the middle of a tourtist area. The food was good and was a decent price for what you got. Everyone in our group was happy with their order. The service was lacking and several times we just got up and got our own drink refills. This was disappointing when we had to hunt down our waitress for napkins and our check. I would visit again even with the bad service because sometimes people have off days. read more
