My wife and I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon around 2:00 and it wasn't too busy. The restaurant was very clean and the staff was extremely friendly. We ordered the fried green tomatoes and they are outstanding! My wife had the country fried steak and I had the open face roast beef. The food was delicious and the portions are huge. We had the rainbow trout, fried okra, baked potato, and the table shared fried green tomatoes. The fried green tomatoes were soaked in oil. The rainbow trout was very thin and over seasoned, the baked potato was baked to perfection. My husband doesn't mind deep fried food and I not a fan so keeping that in mind my review is only three stars. The place was OK in atmosphere and pretty good service. read more

Ok ya'll... this place here in the peaceful side of the smokies is AMAZING!! Had the hungry man omelette and let me tell you it absolutely delivers... solid gold in the food... and the sweet cream pancake??? Get it first!! The service was way above excellent with Tania taking wonderful care of us!! You go girl, and a cancer survivor... the best !! And the ambiance is really cool... but why is the fireplace tipped?? The Riverstone Restaurant is a quint little country place that has great home style food. The bologna sandwich and grilled cheese with chilli was made to perfection. I stopped here after running the 5k that Vacation Races puts on. I was fairly hungry and they were only a ten minute walk from my room. I ordered the burger with fries and sweet tea. It was all tasty. The burger could have been cooked a little longer for my tastes. The fries were good and they give you a ton. Staff was super friendly! oh my goodness. We stayed just down the street at Tremont lodge. We decided at 8pm to go eat. They're open until 9pm. The place was empty except 1 table. We have a little furbaby dog, and they allow dogs. They greeted us with a smile, and made us feel very welcome. Then all of a sudden, the place started filling up with people. This place is just outside the cove, so at dusk when people are leaving the cove, they are hungry. This place is one of the first places outside the cove in Townsend. We ordered and split their pot roast with vegetables, mash potatoes, and fried okra. It was absolutely amazing. Smoking hot, fresh melt in your mouth pot roast with potatoes, onions, carrots, covered with gravy and side of mash potatoes. With buttered Texas toast. The inside looks vintage, with family charm. Best meal we've had since being up in Townsend. They sell breakfast lunch and dinner. Don't miss this place! read more

Food was not good the so called $8 or more salad bar was empty and brown lettuce Started off so bad we should have left. Ordered spaghetti oh we're out of spaghetti Ordered country fried steak and oh wait no white gravy they put runny water gravy on the country fried steak which turned soggy and oh forgot onions that do not belong on a country fried steak Ordered broccoli soup but never saw broccoli so brown that it was so bad in taste did not eat it The French fries were from a frozen bag how can you tell well they were still cold and frozen not good This used to be a great place to eat and if you have been here in the past well don't keep your expectations compared to the past owners We will not be returning to here as we left as hungry as we were when we walked in. I've been catfishing since 3:30 am, and I knew that only Riverstone could satisfy my hankering for some bacon and eggs. We left before even being seated. We had 4 young children and we were waiting to be seated. The staff behind the counter were fighting and using inappropriate language in front of our children. We couldn't believe it. The reason for the one star is it looked kind of cozy. read more

If you're a local regular, you'll get great service and basically be treated like family, quite literally. But then you likely won't ever come across this review, because you won't know what Yelp is, or have a smartphone, or both. Therefore, this review is really a PSA for those of you who are just visiting and - how should I put this delicately - ain't white. If so, STAY AWAY. I was hesitant to post this review but decided to do it anyways because I felt very necessary to warn my fellow non-white travelers to avoid this place like the plague. The dirty-blonde waitress had major racist vibes. Gave me so much attitude from the moment I asked her "do you have black tea" when it was my turn to order. The 180 switch in her tone and attitude between the rest of my travel buddies who were all white and me was so painfully obvious that all 4 of my companions noticed. She then proceeded to forget my tea (likely willfully), and had the audacity to throw the tea bag on the table with a begrudging "sorry about that." I wish I could say that at least the food was good. Nope. Have you ever had a one-egg omelet? Neither have I, till now. Their namesake "Riverstone Omelet" was thinner than a crepe. Watch out for a Guinness record. My companion who had the biscuit and gravy said the gravy was unsavory and didn't have any sausages. So there you have it. Hideous food and horrendous service. Do yourself a favor and go to Elvira's Cafe instead. It's only 10min away from this racist establishment that skimp out on ingredients. Oh and no lemons. Racist waitress said they'd been "out of lemons for days." More like years, judging from previous reviews. read more

After spending a chilly rainy day in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park we emerged out in the town of Townsend. Being a small town I didn't know what to expect for dinner eating places. Thank you Yelp for having this place listed. If you want good old faction home cooked meals, this is the place to go! Friendly staff and great food, met another couple and we shared a table for four. Felt like family there. The pot roast dinner will fill your belly and then some. My wife had the fried baloney sandwich and loved it. Amazing food!! Our waitress Chanda was charismatic and super attentive. Had a party of 5 and walked in at 8pm. Staff told us it would be a 10 minute wait but it was only a 5 minute wait and we left at 8:45 extremely pleased. We got the fried green tomatoes and they were AMAZING. The best part about the place was the staff. Very friendly and kind servers. It was a bit of a wait to get seated because they were short staffed, but once we were seated everything was great. We arrived here just before 9:00 AM on a rainy Wednesday morning, there were only a few other customers in the restaurant so we had lots of option for seating, we chose the second booth near the front window it was clean and provided plenty of elbow room. Our server Danielle greeted us and dropped off a few menus while taking our drink orders - we had coffee and sweet tea the coffee was really hot and about medium strength, the tea was excellent I noticed a few other reviewers raved about it, it's all true if you're a sweet tea drinker this one makes the grade - Danielle was a wonderful server not overly attentive but we didn't wait on anything including the check. We ordered the Riverstone Breakfast (two eggs over medium, two sausage patties, two slices of toast and grits - everything was cooked perfect with the exception of the grits they were watery and I suspect instant not a good showing, on top of that there is no real butter I think it was substituted with Land of Lake's Spread I understand managing the food cost but you need to make good choices I ate one slice of the toast dry and ditched the grits - we also chose the waffle it was nothing memorable but the log cabin syrup made it work. I noticed the kitchen struggled with a few of the other customer's orders to the point I heard one customer apologized for ordering their bacon crispy and another table was missing their eggs on both their orders. I understand things happen but in these times where businesses are struggling to keep their doors open customer service should be of utmost importance. Over all I had a good experience and would return - Danielle ensured we were well taken care of and our food was correct she's an exceptional server. We arrived shortly before noon and wanted breakfast but figured they had stopped serving and we were correct. Hubby ordered a Philly steak and cheese poboy with fries and he said it was ok. I opted for the BLT and "sweet corn" , as listed on the sides menu. My sandwich was huge on well toasted bread with a nice looking ripe tomato, lots of lettuce and 5 strips of bacon as advertised. However, once I cut it in half and picked one half up it totally fell apart. I disassembled it to find the culprit. With wet lettuce, wet tomato, and crispy by greasy bacon there was no way it was going to stay together. After just eating bacon, tomato, and bread ready to go to the second half I found the bottom bread totally soggy. Should have disassembled it when I did the first half. "Sweet corn" turned out to be barely warm whole kernel corn straight from the can. There were also annoying flies milling around. Maybe we just caught them at a bad time but we won't go again. Too many other places around. They always seem to have lots of cars so perhaps we're in the minority. read more

A friend of mine recommended Riverstone Restaurant last night so we thought we'd check it out. Went a little early for lunch (they start serving lunch at 12:00) so we had breakfast. We had the country ham, eggs, hash browns, grits, biscuits and coffee. Truly awesome food. Krystal was our server and she was amazing. Our food was hot, and she kept the coffee cups full and hot. Ambience was what you expect in this area, kinda a rustic charm. This restaurant is on the quiet side of the Smokies in Townsend. I've lived in the area if more than 8 years and just t found this jewel. Will be going back regularly. read more

The service was decent. The prices are high for the quality of food. I got a BBQ sandwich and it was chunks of pork - not shredded or pulled. We did find hair in the pork. My daughter ordered soup and they forgot to bring it and then brought a different soup but did not charge us. The grilled cheese was not even melted inside. The fries were good. I don't recommend eating here!! It's very dated and the food was not very good. I got a hair in my food, I didn't even eat my food all I ate was the side. I still got charged for my 13 dollar meal. If you're planning on having an early day in the Smokies and Riverstone is on the way, look no further. Food was fine, service relatively meh (sat for 10 minutes before even getting a glass of water), crowd pretty intriguing. One thing I found strange was that there didn't seem to be *much* urgency amongst either patrons or waitstaff. Presumably everyone eating here before 8 AM is gearing up for a big active day but you really couldn't tell that anyone had any interest in trying to get out as soon as possible.
