We started on our adventure and in front of us there it was, Sun Diner. It was 10 people in our party, and our wait was 30 minutes. The ambience was amazing because it offered a view of the past with pictures of musicians. The food was amazing. I ordered the Million Dollar Quartet! The pork belly, waffle, fried eggs and potatoes were delicious! I didn't have any complaints or leftovers. Have tried this diner in Nashville off broadway and now in gatlinburg and have enjoyed it both times. The burger was fire! We actually split it after some wine tasting. Ton of flavor and satisfying. This place was amazing! Such a cozy little dinner in Gat. The staff was so sweet and attentive. Food came out relatively quick. It was different than your typical restaurant, definitely had a more social feel. I probably set a world record for how fast I ate my French toast. It was DELICIOUS!! Everything was great! I'm not personally a fan of gravy, so I would not have ordered the chicken and waffles with the gravy, but my friend really liked it. The cinnamon roll was warm and fresh. It was surprisingly good! Worth it! The veggie omelet was tasty and filling. Plus you do get a little arugula salad and pico, and some potatoes. The staff was quick and friendly. I did overhear our waiter talking to another customer (their food was talking longer than it should have to come out of the kitchen) he gave them a cinnamon roll and comped their meal. They were there before we arrived and we had almost finished eating our food before all of their arrived. I thought that was very professional and solid customer service for the waiter to take care of them like that when the kitchen was being slow. The interior is a bit like a diner with bar-like seating and service and an open kitchen you can watch. It also has big screens playing clips of older musicians and classic songs. It was a cool vibe! First time here and won't be our last! What a great atmosphere this place has! It's very open and is designed after the old diners from the 50's. It was crowded but not too bad. We sat at the huge bar and spent time looking at all the decor. And there a lot to look at! The menu is pretty diverse and the prices are not too bad. Our server was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. She made some suggestions and we ordered our food. The wait isn't very long, maybe 15 to 20 minutes. The food was hot and fantastic! I'm not sure what they put on those potatoes, but you don't need to add one thing to them! I've never seen a place give you the portion of eggs you get here either! Do yourself a favor and try one of the waffles! The bacon was great, again, a large portion of it too! We left very satisfied and this place has replaced Pancake Pantry as our go to in Gatlinburg! Ok, first off, I'm a huge Elvis fan & I've toured Sun Studios in Memphis several times. So when we're walking down the main drag in Gatlinburg & I saw Sun Diner, I was SO excited. Did some research on their website & we decided to try them for lunch today. I expected to hear Elvis/classic Sun music when I walked in, & thankfully, was not disappointed. Lots of pictures on the wall & large screens playing clips of Elvis, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, & BB King. There were also a couple of TVs playing basketball games. Service was fast & friendly. I ordered the Doughnut Sandwich & my husband got the Elvis Pancakes. I don't know why, but I pictured one doughnut cut in half, with the sausage/egg/cheese in the middle, but no .... each "bun" is a giant doughnut. The server recommended just squishing it down to flatten it! I don't understand how doughnut + sausage/egg/cheese tastes so good together. It truly defies logic. But man. So good. The Elvis Pancakes are covered with peanut butter & bananas foster (which my husband described as "caramelized bananas"). He said they were the best pancakes he'd ever had. Waited 40 minutes for a table then finally got seated and ordered, 20 minutes goes by and the waitress finally comes back to tell me they are out of the short ribs and grits. Mind you we got there at 9:30 they open at 7 how are you not aware you are out of a product 3 hours into service. We didn't sit until 10:15 and then I'm told at 10:30 that they don't have what I ordered, so I ask for the manager she checks and what do you know they actually have the short rib at this point I'm already not wanting to eat anymore and the manager catches an attitude because I said I didn't even want the food at that point. She also mentioned that they don't sell a ton of the short rib so how would you even run out of something that you apparently only serve two of a day. Our second visit to this restaurant this year in less than a month I might add! I couldn't get over how good it was the first time and well those Breakfast tacos were calling my name! I got them with Chorizo and it came with eggs,lettuce, tomato and pico de gallo with chipotle ranch sauce and a nice array of purple, sweet and regular potatoes! Oh my goodness they were delicious! The tacos were very tasty and with our waitress suggestion I put their own hot sauce on them! A little bit greasy from the chorizo but that just made them better! There's a one page menu that keeps simplicity, which we really appreciated. When you come here, the pork belly side is a MUST...do not skip this, they are cooked perfectly. The employees were friendly and hardworking even though it was so hot outside (and inside in certain parts of the restaurant). There was plenty of seating but it was PACKED. We were told we had a 30 minute wait but it ended up being way less than that. The food was delicious! The Southwest Omelette was perfectly cooked and delicious. It was served with Tri-color potatoes that were sooo good. The flavor of both chicken dishes was great but they definitely look crunchier than they were (which was fine for us but can be disappointing if you're looking for crunch). This was our first time seeing a Sun Record Company Diner, so we stopped in for supper. On entering we were told by our waiter that he was the only waiter on duty so it would be about 15 minutes before he could seat us, to our surprise it was only about 5 minutes. He was indeed the only waiter and was working quite hard taking care of everyone. I ordered the chicken and waffle and my wife had the meatloaf sandwich, both were very good. As busy as he was our waiter took time to talk to and joke with everybody and was quite entertaining. While the menu is somewhat limited, you can get breakfast lunch or dinner off it at anytime of the day. The decor was very interesting and we spent some time looking it over. This diner has only been open 2 weeks. It is so clean and fun. I have to say I was not a fan of Gatlinburg when we first arrived. People everywhere and just seemed like a lot of chain or celebrity restaurants. I love Sun Studios and this restaurant has a perfect vibe. I had the hot chicken sandwich w the sauce on the side. It was cooked to perfection the fries were amazing but I am glad I got the sauce on the side. Also the iced tea was amazing. This diner has a lot of character and well kept.First experienced Sun diner in Nashville TN, and since then been our favorite breakfast diner. They never miss, food is always consistently good. We even have a hard time trying new breakfast spots only because how inexpensive and good the food is here. When we found out they had a location in Gatlinburg, we were so thrilled and stopped for a quick bite on our way to the smoky mountains. Becka, who served us was welcoming and attentive. We have been Gatlinburg regulars for years and always wait in line for two popular breakfast spots off the strip, but this time we decided to try this new spot and enjoyed it so much we came back on our second day! Great part was it's so new, we didn't have to wait at all. The vibe is perfect, reminds me of what I'd imagine 1960's Memphis would be like, given the diner aesthetic, with Elvis' Sun Studio and other soul music playing on a projector. The staff was friendly, attentive (kept up with coffee refills), and the food as phenomenal. We loved the Chicken N' Waffles, their housemade syrup was perfect, we also tried the Short Rib Hash and it was freakin' good - wish we had asked to try their hot sauce with it (saw it on our way out as they sell the bottles of it). Highly recommend this spot and we will be adding it to our rotation of must visits when we come to town! Only tip is if you're short like me don't sit at the bar bc the stools are bolted and don't move so it's very uncomfortable, we preferred the booth/table. read more

Sun Records in Memphis is considered the birthplace of Rock and Roll with the likes of Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and many more recording there. The Sun's walls are filled with so many pics of those from that era and videos play of the greatest from that period and who recorded there. If you're looking for places that have 1-2 menu pages devoted to a hundred variations of humongous stacks of pancakes the Sun is not for you. Go join the line at Omega or one of those other churn and burn breakfast spots in all tourist towns. But if looking for a cool breakfast diner with dang good food don't miss it!
