Great atmosphere and food. The higher than average cost, I think, is justified (in order) by the vibe, food presentation and food quality. Fried mozzarella and meatballs were great appetizers. Pappardelle were my favorite while my wife truly enjoyed her fettuccine with veal ragu. We also managed to get to the desserts. My tiramisu was good, a but on the soft side, but satisfying. The dining area has several different areas, each with a distinct feel but always classy, always impressive. This is the kind of place you go to impress your dining companions without feeling stuffy, stodgy, or too uptight. It's attainable class. But more important than the feel and service is how incredible the menu is. This is Italian food, but it's not like anything you've experienced before. You'll find the classics like spaghetti and meat balls (out of this world!) or personal pizzas (perfect mix of creative and classic). And then you can explore dishes like fusilli with perfectly seasoned, crumbled Italian sausage, tender osso bucco, or expertly crafted steak. Our family stopped by Melt on a Saturday evening. We had a reservation and were quickly escorted to the second floor. (It was close to 7p so a small crowd was gathering.) We had a cozy booth for 5 facing the action. Great ambiance. The kids (13, 15, 17) and my husband wanted burgers (good!) and I ordered the pappardelle w/veal gravy (WOW!) plus a few orders of the buratta and calamari. (Both, very good) Our server was personable and attentive. A good experience for all - prices were a little big higher than average but I would go again. By the time we left, well after 8p, the crowd had grown - lots of couples, smaller groups. Great venue for a data or intimate celebration. read more

Expected much better service for a $150 bill for two. Ordered a bottle of wine immediately but received it after the appetizers and several water refills. When the wine did arrive, there was wine dripping all over the bottle so the waiter just threw a bunch of napkins on the table and set the bottle on top. Had hoped that when specifying "birthday celebration" on the open table reservation, they would have brought out the special dessert as we've seen many times. read more

This is our go to place when we want to celebrate! You can't beat the inviting atmosphere - the room on the main floor with the fireplace is our favorites spot. The food is consistently delicious starting with the warm bread with olive oil to the dessert at the end of your meal. We have been here so many times and have tried such a variety of dishes that we basically recommend any and everything on the menu. If you like calamari this is the place to try it. Caesar salad - one of the best! Our server this evening, Jason was attentive, knowledgeable, personable and on top of it all. We celebrated our anniversary and he made sure it all went perfectly! I often eat lunch at melt on Sunday afternoons. I like the food and don't mind the price. I almost always order the special, which usually is a fish dish. I have never paid more than $20 for the lunch special. Today, however, I was charged $32 which shocked me. The same thing I have ordered before. A piece of fish over a tiny bit of greens and a few roasted artichoke pieces. To make matters worse, I could have ordered the fixed price three course meal (a fish dish) for $30. Needless to say, I will never order the special again, if I even decide to eat at Melt again. I ordered lunch and expected lunch. The server obviously made a mistake. read more

My husband and I went here with another couple that we enjoy dining out with on a regular basis. We usually drive to Philly or NYC for an "upscale" dining experience, so we were excited to try something closer to home. We stopped by to see if they had any tables and were promptly told nothing was available. When we pointed out that we could see a number of empty tables, the hostess disappeared for a few minutes, and then seated us immediately. We were so happy to snag a table that we didn't mind, at first, that we had to wait 20 minutes before we even saw our server. Afraid we may never see her again, we placed our entire order at once. Our fears were not unfounded; the server never checked on us except when bringing out our drinks and the appetizer and main courses. There was, of course, a very zealous bread server who seemed to think that he could compensate for the horrible service by sending us into a carbohydrate coma. Our bread basket was refilled three times! The food was a poor excuse for what high-end Italian can really be. We started with the Fritto Misto. The eggplant was not too bad, but it was supposed to come with goat cheese. Instead we received some sort of grainy blob reminiscent of ricotta. One of my companions ordered the Spiedini, which was described on the menu as seafood skewers (PLURAL). My friend received one pathetic little skewer of seafood that was so badly charred, it tasted like charcoal. For dinner, I ordered panzanella and salciccia. The panzella was serviceable but not particularly memorable. The salciccia was a pathetic soup that contained hardly any sausage flavor. I will say that the drink list was impressive; I always enjoy a good champagne cocktail. We thought that it would be a good place to go have a cocktail before a movie to enjoy the ambience. It's very doubtful that we would go back for dinner though. At the end of the day, you're paying for atmosphere, and you get plenty of it. Just be sure to save a few dollars to by something to eat on the way home. read more

This place is nothing to rave about. Went with my mom. I got the smallest crab cakes I've ever seen in my life and a small salad on the side that came with it $40. My mom got some type of pasta dish $40. I can't believe they charge you $40 for a pasta dish, I read on their website they get the finest pasta and you could tell it wasn't homemade, so it's not made there if it was, I could eat the $40, but over priced and the food is nothing to brag about, mediocre at best. The only reason I gave Melt 4 stars because the plates where not uniform. I came to Melt for a work event. The 2 people sitting on each side of me had the same thing I had. I got the ribeye with potatoes blue cheese and a blue cheese sauce, mushrooms, onions, garlic and butter. My blue cheese crumbles and the blue cheese sauce for the steak and potatoes was on the sides and I must say that blue cheese sauce was amazing. Now the 2 people sitting on each side of me, one had no sauce at all, and the other has sauce and blue cheese covering her potatoes and steak, you couldn't even see the meat or potatoes and we were not given the option for it on the meat or on the side. Now my steak I had medium and it melted like butter in your mouth, it was perfectly cooked and just the right amount of seasoning. I was so excited to talk about the steak I forgot about the appetizers. We had a meat and cheese platter, shrimp, and mozzarella and tomato salads. All of that was absolutely amazing, everything tasted so fresh and was so well prepared. I can honestly say I hate tomatoes, but that Caprese Salad was amazing and I ate it all it was coated with the right amount of dressing that made it taste great. The wine was great, ambiance was great, bathrooms clean and one of my highlights is the huge wine rack that they had, it was very nice, I actually want to buy a bigger house just to get one of those built, HAHA. We have been enjoying Melt dining experience since they opened in 2006 and we just had another OUTSTANDING meal there -- the appetizer was scrumptious (crab cake), the salad was very fresh and well prepared, the entree (mahi-mahi) was absolutely delicious, and the dessert (tiramesu gelato) was heavenly. A relative that I was visiting and I enjoyed a delicious dinner at Melt. The service was great and we were not rushed through our meal at all. There were so many martinis to choose from and a really nice dinner menu too. We both had pasta dishes and they were good sized portions so we didn't even have room for dessert. I don't know how you have a rooftop patio with no working heaters?! I was here for my first time on Saturday night and was disappointed to find that not one bungalow had a working heater nor was any indication made during the reservation process that they were non-functional. It certainly made for an unpleasant evening when it was much colder than anticipated. At least have some of those heater towers on hand in the event your entire rooftop breaks! Lighting was too dark for me; I could barely see my food or my company. The food was bleh...a margarita pizza that was mediocre, and a sopresetta plate with toast that destroyed the roof of my mouth because it was so hard. Over priced for the quality of food served. This was not my scene and don't think I'll make the hike back up again. It's a shame to see so much potential underutilized. Ugh. read more

I took business clients here for lunch last week. There was no wine pricing by the glass provided so the waitress suggested the Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc. Very nice wine UNTIL I received the bill. $17 PER GLASS FOR THIS WINE! Can you believe it??? You can purchase an entire bottle of this wine for $12.99. This is simply outrageous and when i asked the manager about it, he responded that it was "their premium pour pricing." What??? This restaurant is not in center city Philly or New York. My boyfriend and I went on date here two weekends ago. We had a reservation and when we got there we didn't wait and we were seated right away. The host was very nice and he had a small chat with us which was very nice! We started with wine and no appetizers. I got the roasted lamb for dinner and it was absolutely delicious! We recently had an interesting experience at this restaurant that I wanted to share. While my wife and daughter were enjoying a back to school dinner celebration, the power went out and he alarm bells sounded. The staff, at first dazed and confused, cleared the restaurant and made sure everyone got out safely. While my family was awaiting reentry, the staff removed the half-eaten entrees off the tables and put them on heating plates in their kitchens. After 20 minutes of waiting, the patrons were readmitted and their food was returned to them on different plates. However, the food was returned cold and not freshened nor was there any modification made to the bill. Upon reflection, my wife contacted the GM who promptly returned her inquiry and stated that the next meal would be on him as a courtesy. This is where the tale gets good: A week later with me in tow, we returned to the restaurant and were greeted by the manager(Corey) and waitress(Jamie). Their professionalism and keen senses were evident from the start. Corey was gregarious and made us feel so welcome as Jamie provided first class service. Not only did they comp the meal of my wife and daughter, they comped my meal! This simple act exceeded our expectations and made me a customer for life. Note: it is hard to review Melt without reviewing its surrounds. Melt is part of a trendy, recently constructed, village type shopping mall. It is a place to wander about safely in cozy surroundings , with concrete cobblestone crosswalks and stylishly lit storefronts. Everything seems a bit sterile and "yet to be lived in." Recently installed sod is everywhere with a sprinkling of newly planted shrubs but there isn't a tall tree anywhere "downtown." The decor and the ambiance of Melt leaves one reassured that the Lehigh Valley can support an upscale, trendy eating establishment designed to impress. The interior design is a combination of innovative lighting, warm wood and reasonably spacious seating. I shared an appetizer in the bar. I believe it featured artichoke hearts, and it was tasty enough. For me, "tasty" is paramount. If your food isn't somewhat special, why call yourself a restaurant? I can't say I recommend the food wholeheartedly because I didn't sample enough but I am pretty sure one can find something decent to eat here. The service was sufficient and friendly but the wait staff seemed a bit nervous about recommending a favorite dish. Constantly repeating thank you and have a great night as instructed, they made us feel cared for until the third or fourth time this became a bit perfunctory. Price: Although not outrageously expensive, you should plan on spending $50.00 - $60.00 per person for dinner and drinks. We visited Melt after seeing a movie--in the very cool digital movie theater that is sort of an anchor in this anchor-store-less(no Macys or Target here), shopping village plunked in what I believe used to be an open meadow. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against coordinated design and recreating a small town feel, but aren't small towns supposed to come with small, quaint shops that aren't filled with the same old same old? As far as I could tell, there is not much about the shopping experience here that isn't replicated in a thousand other malls across the country..Abercrumby, Barnz-n-Nobel, etc. Melt has 3 levels. One way you get upstairs is via an elevator located in a very cool lobby and on the way up you feel as if you are going someplace special. When you arrive, it feels pretty much like the meat market bar scene. The decor is modern and somewhat Scandinavian. One floor has an outdoor patio with a view of the parking lot and some distant trees. It was nice but had no furniture and seemed underused. Granted, it was May and a chilly evening. Perhaps they are making better use of the space now that summer has arrived. This place begs for a dance floor and possibly live music upstairs. The background music was up-tempo enough for dancing; techno pop has a beat that makes one want to move. There was no place to move or let one's hair down and that felt constricting. Dress casual or more is the dress code. Be prepared for quick the head to toe evaluation at the bar. "It's not how you feel ,darrrling, its how ju look, and ju look mahveloussss.," Hey, wear jeans if you have that kind of confidence and have fun. FYI: Other than Melt, there are not many unique places to eat in this mall. A chain named RedRobin is represented so if you like calorie laden American bistro food, pick up your crayons and color your place mat while you enjoy cream sauces and bacon burgers. This area is better suited to daytime shopping. Evenings are for early shopping, the movies and Melt. I am sure Melt likes it that way but I would have loved to have sat in the Starbucks that occupies part of the "town square" and enjoyed a coffee if they didn't close at 10, or have sampled a pastry or ice cream in a shop that served it if one existed. There is a Trader Joe's style market here with perfectly arranged fruit where the smell of mocha java abounds. We went there on a subsequent trip to this shopping area but unfortunately, it was closed after the movie. To sum it up, if you are entertaining out of towners with an urge to impress, or you just like dressing up a bit and enjoying a night in a trendy new place, Melt fills the bill. Tip for management: Big screen TV's are ubiquitous these days but NASCAR doesn't fit with Melt. Besides, it is boring to watch. read more

This place is attractive, with a "hip" feel to it. But it does not measure up to its prices. The food is very uneven, as Chadwick T. noted. And I can't even say that much for the service. The other night, we sat down at the second floor bar for drinks and appetizers. The poor girl behind the bar was overworked -- making drinks for all the tables on the floor with no help. She kept apologizing to us for not getting to us sooner, and offering explanations for why the appetizers took so long to arrive. If this were a TGIFridays, I'd probably be OK with that. But for a place where the median price for a glass of wine is $13, I don't think I should have to hear about the problems of the wait staff. At those prices, service should be impeccable and transparent. I am not faulting our server (whom we tipped well); I am faulting management for not giving their wait staff the support and training they require to provide service commensurate with the place's pretensions. And a minor complaint: I hate the name "Melt." It brings to mind images of globs of melted cheese, which has nothing to do with authentic Italian cooking. read more

I've only been to Level 3 for drinks and appetizers, and I do love the atmosphere. The drinks are great but a little overpriced. Some bartenders are better than others. A few nights I went, the waitresses and bartenders were great and speedy with the service; other nights the bartender was slow and incompetent, even with a long line of customers waiting. Can decor make food better? If any place can this place can. Build out is beautiful, should be in downtown manhattan. Class A dinnerware, napkins, bathrooms etc. service is good too.
