The chicken fettuccine was flavorful and creamy & the chicken melt was also very flavorful with the veggies and cheese. However, the Chicken fettuccine Alfredo had a tart/sour taste which I'm not used to. I had to put some sugar in it to cut the taste, which made it better. This place is a GEM. Looked up brunch places nearby while we were staying in Berkeley, and found this nice little spot. Granted, its a little sketch outside the cafe but once inside, the food is what kept us feeling satisfied. Parking is somewhat limited in a small lot and as we went on a Monday morning, it was still pretty crowded, was able to snag a parking spot. I ordered the mushroom tartine, which was mushroom and cheese on toast, and a side salad with ranch dressing. Was absolutely delicious My bf ordered the crab benedict with a side of hash browns and it was delicious! They're very generous on the portion size and we both did not finish our plates. The pricing was fair and if we ever visit SF again, we'd love to come back here and try out some of the other menu items. read more

We ordered from Mely's Cafe late last night as we frequently go to their other restaurant next door--Juan's Taqueria. My husband ordered from Juan's but I wanted to try Mely's due to a lot of positive reviews that I had seen. I asked my husband to go in a get a menu that I could look at first but he came back empty handed saying that he was told the only menu that they have was the big one tapped to the restaurants window?? Well, I ordered the steak dish--cooked medium--and I substituted mashed potatoes for the rice--and it came also with vegetables as well as a mushroom sauce for the steak. I also ordered the Fried Calmari as well that came with a ranch dip. The steak was way over done--and to my disappointment the 'steak' (and I am not even sure what kind of steak it was) but tasted like rubber, thinly sliced to the point that I wouldn't even call it a steak but more so just a fried piece of beef--and was horrible. It was lacking in seasoning not to mention the fact of the way over priced dish--$25?? Not worth the money. The Calmari was not even edible--totally no flavor and was like rubber. It had no seasoning in whatever it was coated with, and the dipping sauce was a ranch dip--which does not even go with this dish. I am totally disappointed as I was really expecting a whole different experience with all the positive reviews but not worth the money that I spent. The only positive thing about my order was that the vegetables were well seasoned as well as the mashed potatoes--and with the mushroom sauce on top of these items at least I was able to eat something. Update 05/29/2021: I followed up with the owner this date who was more than apologetic about my experience and offered either to refund what was charged but after speaking with him I decided to give Mely's Cafe another shot as we have been loyal customers of the Juan's Taqueria--which is fabulous--and he offered us a free meal which we will do sometime this week to make up for the mishap. I often see their ads and posts on a local Facebook group and I had been wanting to check them out. We were in the area and looking for a dine in spot for dinner. We called and they said they were open for indoor dining. The plaza where the small restaurant is located across from Lytton Casino on San Pablo. The parking lot is small, but you usually can easily get a spot. It seems due to the local restrictions on capacity, they are still doing mostly takeout. There were only 3 tables available to dine in although they had more tables and space (but probably they wanted to keep it safe and abide by the rule so they only had 3 tables setup. We opted for seafood fettuccine entree, New York steak entree and 6 mango habanero wings. The food came out fast and hot! The fettuccine was not aldente which was perfect bc I was sharing with my 15 months baby, so the softer pasta was actually easier for her to eat. The plate was loaded generously with large sizes shrimps, scallops (baby size), mussels and salmon! The flavors were bold and refreshing (they used white wine, lemon, basils and tomatoes for the sauce) and it was perfectly seasoned, very delicious that even my sometimes picky-eater baby enjoyed the dish. The chicken wings were good too, and the mango Habanero sauce had some spicy kick in it (not too overwhelming so it was very enjoyable). I did not taste my hubby's new York steak but it was $21 a plate, really good portion and came with mashed potatoes and veggies. We ended our meal with a flan and alfajores (shortbread cookies sandwich with caramel fillings). Both were really good! The flan was very rich and firm but creamy, delicious! Our total came to around $60 (hubby had a can of coke to drink) which was very reasonable for the amount of food and quality that we received. The service was super friendly and we certainly hope more folks will be checking out this newer restaurant and support their business. They opened a year ago when the pandemic hit. They also own the taqueria next door. We will certainly be back! They have a great selection for menu (including breakfast and brunch options) and they serve them all day! read more

It is fresh; even the fries are good. The items are fresh and tasty; great meal! Price is about $20 per person so it is not like Subway next door, but it is also not Subway quality. Came here with a friend for late lunch/early dinner to celebrate my birthday about 1-2 weeks ago. I had been wanting to check out Mely's for the longest time since I've read good reviews and have heard great things. I was really excited (esp. because I was craving pasta) and had high expectations. The service was alright; no complaints there. The server/owner was attentive and checked on us a few times throughout the meal as we were one of two tables dining at the time (during odd hours). He was also able to accommodate my friend's requests; such as extra sour cream and avocado on the side (more on that later). Ultimately, the reason why I decided to give a 3-star rating (closer to a 3.5/5) is due to the food and pricing of the extra/sides. I really wanted to like my food (especially since it was my birthday) and the Seafood Sauteed Fettucini looked really good in pictures/on yelp. The pasta was quite nice and cooked al dente. However the sauce was just too sour for my liking and the seafood (although generous in amount; seemed like something I could make at home with seafood bought from Costco-- mussels, salmon, shrimp, and some tiny scallops). I ended up not finishing my food (& brought it home for someone else to enjoy) and the dish wasn't really worth $22, imo. As for the pollo quesadilla, my friend enjoyed her food. She's quite particular about her guacamole/dip, so she did not touch the salsa and guacamole that came with the dish. The only suggestion/note to mention about the quesadillas were that the tortillas were toasted (she prefers them to be soft) and there wasn't enough cheese inside. I also didn't notice until I read the receipt at night that the (half) avocado she got on the side cost $2.95(!) and the extra sour cream was $1 (more reasonable). Otherwise, without the extra requests, the dish would've been worth it for ~$11. She also enjoyed the cheese blintz (me, not as much-- but this is only due to personal preferences/taste) and it was done really well. The fruits on the side were too sour/out of season--with the exception of the pineapples, but this is not their problem/out of their control. Now don't get me wrong, I love to support small and local, family business and the presentation of the dishes were done really well. I just wish I had enjoyed my food/experience, so I could give them a higher rating. Hopefully I can come back and try something else on the menu (& update my review then). I would still highly encourage folks that live around this neighborhood to give them a try! read more

Tried this place out of the recommendation from my younger sister, especially since it's in my home area and I wanted something fresh for lunch. The restaurant is cozy, giving off the typical small local shop vibes. Staff worked quickly in terms of taking orders and bringing out food, which was lovely since we came on a weekend. I ordered the Southwestern burger, which was huge and not oily! I appreciated it since it filled me up by the end of the meal without making me feel tired. Wonderful restaurant with a great variety of menu options. I ordered through door dash and tried the salmon fettuccine and salmon frittata. They arrived piping hot and the salmon was so tender and fresh in both dishes. Both items I have generous portions. The frittata was very herby with tons of veggies. The fettuccine was super creamy and flavorful. We also got a side of fries and they were really good to. I opted for fresh fruit with our breakfast. It was a lot of food to eat so I definitely had leftovers! I do love the layering of the eggs then the ham then the French toast! The extra crispy hash browns were on the side. We came for dinner for a very early Mother's day celebration. The place was completely empty. The hostess greeted us and was very attentive from the start. For appetizers we ordered calamari, mozzarella sticks and garlic bread. From the three my favorite was the garlic bread. Our party of 5 had a chicken quesadilla, a veggie quesadilla, salmon with veggies and mashed potatoes, pesto pasta with salmon, and a steak melt. My favorite was the fettuccini pesto pasta by far! Tasty, with a hint of spice. My salmon was well seasoned with a melon fruit salad on top. Before taking off, we ordered two Profiteroles and they were amazing!
