First time here. Stopped by this place which smelled amazing from the street. We were here few weeks back and the food tasted great. The place doesn't have a lot of sitting arrangements but pack and go is easy. We had Adana kabab and lamb kabab in a gyro, also ordered kazandibi for dessert . We also ordered the Turkish coffee. The chicken kebab plate was fine, chicken was ok, needed more flavor and could've been fresher. Rice was fine. The staff's customer service was apathetic. For $25 plus I expect more food. I wish they packed my food a bit better, it's a small portion and they packed everything together, the salad was under my rice and meat resulting in the salad being wilted. Grabbed a quick sandwich here the other day while galavanting through Manhattan. My coworkers and I used to sometimes frequent this establishment for lunch back when I used to work in the area. It's good to see not a lot has changed, the vibe is still very airy and welcoming. The Turkish bread definitely tastes fresh. The sauces given on the side could be thicker or tastier. I don't like how watery the red sauce is. The doner meat is good but it could definitely use a little bit more seasoning. I noticed they put a lot more meat in the sandwich now which I really do appreciate. A creamy sauce inside the sandwich like ranch or white sauce would elevate this sandwich so much. I came here a while back on a random summer night for some late night eats. I got a shawarma/gyro sandwich to go as they were in the process of closing for the night. It was pretty tasty and flavorful and fairly filling. I would definitely try the other items on the menu. As someone who has tried a fair share of shawarma places in the city from popular places like Mamouns in the Village to the lesser known places that are out in Bayridge like Al Aqsa, I would say it ranks up there for Midtown. I've ordered soup and wings from here before and never had a problem, this time I tried the lamb wrap and about 30-60 minutes after eating it I started feeling really sick. My stomach felt terrible and I honestly couldn't even go to the bathroom properly. It was a really rough night and I'm still trying to feel better just by drinking water. Walk to the back to the nicest lady that takes your order and provides easy suggestions from the menu. I ordered the Lamb Shish Kebabs. S'GOOD. It took 15 min to wait for, but whew! Worth the wait. BEWARE! I went here today to get my weekly lamb gyro & and WOW, the woman at the register says my total is $14.15. I was shocked as the exact same Lamb Gyro sandwich was $10.83 last week. I understand inflation, but an increase of $3.32 in a week is not inflation but price gouging. They are taking advantage of inflation & gouging their customers. My favorite restaurant EVER! I always recommend this place and it really is the best bang for your buck. $19 for a large portion and $15 for the small -- both of which allow you to have left overs for the next day. I love the small shop and how the employees are always so kind to help. I struggled with making my order and the employee was patient and super helpful. The food is delicious and leaves me craving more every time. The bread it comes with is soft and fresh. So I took a chance and ordered falafel in a pita ( cheating on bread :( but hey what's falafel w/o pita? Like peanut butter without jelly!) The food arrived quickly and I asked for tahini on the side (watching those calories!) and it also came with this cucumber mint dressing. I also ordered a spicy mezze. The sandwich was dynamite!!! packed with delicious falafel and lots of salad. It was fresh and delicious and tahini gave it a kick. I have yet to try mezze, came with bread on the side. 9 pm, on a Friday, and I still hadn't had dinner. Across the street, I spotted Memo Shish Kebab, and I knew this was the moment to give it a try. Fast forward 45 min, and I left disappointed. Why? Because I spent around $20-25 on baklava (yummy, but too sweet) and a small sized kebab. The lamb kebab was ordinary, although it somewhat redeemed itself after I sprinkled some of that red sauce. I do not think paying about $14 for a small sized lamb kebab was worth it, considering there exist $6-7 halal carts close-by with kebab dishes that pack more flavors. The price differential doesn't seem justified. Plus, I didn't particularly enjoy eating my food there while order numbers were being yelled out loud for customers every minute. I get that it's inevitable to some degree -- I just wouldn't recommend Memo Shish Kebab as a sit down place if that would bother you as it did me. read more

This Turkish restaurant was near to our hotel. It's fast casual in the sense that you order and pay at the cashier and are given a number. When your number is called you pick up your food. You can get it to go it to eat in. The restaurant was originally established in Brooklyn in 2000. Their "story" goes back generations when the grandfather had a local eatery in Urfa, Turkey. The grandfather, Mehmet, was known also as "Memo". There is a counter against the window and a communal high top table running down the middle of the restaurant. Everything smelled so good when we entered that we ordered a bit more than we could eat. We started with a small order of hummus which came with a piece of Turkish bread (similar to, but thicker than regular pita). As all our food came out at the same time, and I used some of the hummus to add to my sandwich. I had a "Memo shish kebab" sandwich. This version has smaller pieces of grilled lamb in it. It also had lettuce, tomato and cabbage on it. (I opted for no onions). I got it on Turkish bread. You can also order it on pita or as a wrap. The sandwich was so large I ate it with a fork and knife. They nicely also gave us some sumac on request. The counters have salt and pepper and a Turkish form of slightly ground hot red peppers to add as well. My husband had their lamb Adana Kebab sandwich. The meat is chopped and seasoned in a long skewer shape. It also came with lettuce, onions, cabbage, and tomatoes. To drink, we had Turkish tea. Even the small size was large. They also have juices, Turkish sodas, a yogurt drink, and regular sodas, water, etc. The menu contains salads, soups, cold appetizers, hot appetizers, entrees, and even seafood as well as desserts. In the morning, they serve breakfast until 10:30 am including some various Turkish pastries -- pies, rolls, croissants, etc., as well as eggs. I'd definitely come back when in the area. I took a chance on a new Turkish restaurant in Chelsea during lunch last week. I looked at the menu and immediately was excited that they had real homemade Turkish bread. I ordered the chicken gyro (döner) and let them add the traditional toppings. There was homemade sauces on the side, adding extra flavor. It was all delicious and I'm glad to know that I have an option for real Turkish food in the area. The lady who took my order was very nice and was excited to know that I enjoy and knew food from Turkey so she made me a big cup of the very fragrant type tea you only get in the dine-in experience. They also make traditional coffee is well as other specialties like lattes. All of the deserts and meats look fresh and ready to be cooked to order. Part of the Memo Shish Kebab branch in Brooklyn on Kings Highway they have now expanded into Chelsea Manhattan. They focus on Shawarma, gyros, and falafel. It's a nice corner spot with some window high bench seating. It's in the fast casual style of eating. Similar to their brooklyn branch the shawarma is the thing to get here. They have lamb and chicken varieties but go with the lamb. Spit roasted and tasty. Platters come with rice, cucumber, tomato, and purple onion salad. The meat is tender with a nice roasted crisp. The chicken varietey also tasted great. The variety here is plentiful as they have adana kebab and falafel as well that you can have in a pita with hummus. Disappointed . Discovered memo way back in 2012, when I lived in brooklyn. I still feel the Kings Highway branch is awesome. We decided to eat here since everything else was closed. Super clean location and very bright! We placed the order and waited for an extended period of time, we got the lamb gyro wrap and mixed gyro platter. The gyro was so so bland! They also forgot to give us the white sauce and we had to ask for it. Some of the members in my party didn't receive their food till the rest of us had finished, so we ended up just taking it to go.
