Roasted Chicken Drm Wrap
Julia H.

Having been in the area quite a bit, I've been finding myself at Essex Market often. There are a variety of food vendors here but this spot spoke to me as it seems to be one of the healthier options. I popped in for a weekday for a lunch and enjoyed it upstairs in the seating area. It doesn't get too crowded so if you need to grab and go that's also an option. I got the chicken wrap which comes in a tortilla and it was so good i got it again the very next day lol. It's really a perfect lunch item as well since its super balanced, easy to eat, and filling! It's also quite authentic and reminded me of the döner i had in germany!

Location - This place sit inside the historic Essex Market as a vendor station. Essex market has a nice ambiance but is pretty dead later in the day around dinner time, it seems more like a lunch spot since they close early. Efficient service - I ordered for pick up and it was ready when I got there. Delicious - The chicken was incredibly tasty flavorful and tender. I loved all the textures and freshness that the veggies on top of the warm rice brought. The white yogurt sauce on top is perfection! You really can't go wrong here.

Roasted Chicken Over Rice Pilaf Bowl (GF)

Was in the area to shop at Trader Joe's Essex Crossing so came to Essex Market for lunch. The chicken over rice was delicious and a step up from the typical street meat gyro guy. I loved the way the chicken was seasoned with something similar to cinnamon or cardamom. The flavors of the meat, rice, pickled cabbage, onions and cucumbers melded really well together for a satisfying lunch. I'll definitely be back to try more menu items.

Great fast casual spot with fantastic doner meat cooked to perfection! Flavors were good and it was the perfect lunch!

the supposed kebab cone

one of the worst food experiences i've had while living here. i'm 90% sure i received the wrong item, but did not have time to dispute. the meat was well seasoned but tough to chew. i ordered the kebab cone and received a sandwich the size of my hand for $13...gone in 3 bites. probably worth half as much as i paid. the employee was a bit slow to make the order and did not seem focused. never coming back!

The vegan sandwich was worth the long walk. The service was great and the food was fresh and flavorful.

The waiter was super nice and gave us recommendations so we ended up ordering the beef sambosa, the kabuli palow with chicken, the kebab combination ii, and the okra. Loved the beef sambosa, the waiter actually brought them out for us to try before we ordered and told us to eat it with the spice condiments on the side with a white sauce. Very delicious! The okra was delicious and paired well with the rice. The kabuli palow had raisins and pistachios in the rice that was really delicious and added a nice sweet and savory element. The meats for the kebab combination were all delicious, spiced, and juicy. The waiter also gave us chickpeas which were so flavorful and would definitely recommend! Such a great place and even better service! Will be back soon!

Maybe we've been spoiled by our favorite restaurant back in St. Louis (Afghan Kabob House) but Ariana's was underwhelming. The server was friendly but the food was just ok. Pricey due to the location as expected but also underwhelming taste wise. We got the aushak, mantu, and kadoo bolanee (pumpkin curry with bread). All three surprisingly looked very similar (photos look almost identical as they had the same sauce drizzled with yogurt). The aushak has leeks inside while the mantu has beef. The beef was drier than we were used to and the aushak less flavorful with overpowering onion. The pumpkin was cooked in what looked like the same sauce as well but the baked bread it came with was good. They did offer complimentary chickpeas which were tastier however. Maybe other items on the menu would've been better picks!

Everything was fresh, well-seasoned, and clearly made with care. This was a small hole-in-the-wall spot, but it really impressed us. I also got to try the rice and grain, which were both absolutely delicious. Our server, I believe named Faresh, was very attentive and welcoming, and did a great job making the experience even better. The restaurant was busy, and I even overheard someone say it's the best Turkish/Mediterranean spot in town. I'd honestly agree. Portions were generous, especially the sandwiches, which were huge. I will definitely be coming back.

Everything I've said previously still applies, but the seating area towards the back has been fixed up since my previous reviews. It looks much nicer now with more unified looking furniture, brightened up paint and even a panel offering a visual separation between the bathroom and seating area. The food has not changed at all, and that's a good thing. Their chicken gyro is still top notch. Their bulgar wheat side? Delicious. The hummus is still one of the best around and their fresh baked pita breads are to die for. Also huge shout out for their Dolmas which are the best around. In an amusing side note: I recommended Turco to a coworker who was visiting from out of town so he had a dinner here and he absolutely loved it and has talked about going back whenever he is in New York City again!

I feel like this place is good, but the white sauce is what makes it. Would I wait another 50 minutes in line, again? Heck to the no - but 1 time? Yes, just to say I tried it. I came in line around 9:45pm and waited approx. 50 minutes before being served. the line just grows and grows.... it is crazy busy! I don't get the line concept here. Because while I was in a long line, when I get to the front, there's another line to the left of the truck... and people seem to be getting their food faster, and the line is like 2x shorter. So that's kind of confusing. Ambience in line and ordering = chaotic. The line is quick in terms of when it is your turn, KNOW what you want. Because you have like 5 seconds to order and that's it. I ordered the special (the spicy rice, lamb and chicken combo, extra white sauce, 3 squirts of hot sauce, and a topped with fries). $13 in total. I would like to say, advice to folks to know what you want before you come. I did not look at menu options beforehand and I did fairly little research so I honestly did not know what to order, just looked at some google reviews and pictures. That is going to help you, in case you do not want the typical lamb and chicken combo. To the food - 1st - they don't care how much hot sauce you want. they're making these bowls in the masses and are just giving you a single squirt so they can make 20 bowls all at the same time. I was hoping for more spice in what I ordered, but it was very slightly spicy. I'm not sure if they let you serve yourself to more, but I'd definitely want more of the hot sauce. 2nd - I didn't taste any spice in the spicy rice. I'm not sure if, again, due to the fast production that it all just taste like regular rice? but didn't see what the hype was there. 3rd - I genuinely think the white sauce is what brings it all together. The chicken was OK to me. I didn't think it was anything special, and would give it a 3 out of 5. texture was OK, flavor was OK... the lamb definitely stole the show. The lamb was absolutely flavorful and full of delicious spices. This reminded me of what I've had in Dubai. Very rich in flavor and just the perfect amount of spices. Overall, I think if you wait for your food to cool down like 20 minutes, you'll get to taste the flavors more. Everything hot together, for me, just didn't allow me to really absorb all the food. But the rice was your average rice. Pita was deliciously soft and pillowy which complemented the white sauce. Chicken was ok. had an OK texture; nothing life changing. lamb was fantastic, and fries were just fries (nothing memorable). For a NYC experience, a 1-time, 50 minute wait is acceptable. And, for $13, that's pretty cheap for the amount of food you get. I would eat it again if the line was 5 minutes. Otherwise, I'm positive you will find similar food/better food elsewhere.
