The atmosphere --- reminds me of a small Cheers-like bar. Tommy and Mandy .... The owners have a great story surrounding this restaurant (which was once Knicks). So if I know their story it tells you about the customer service! They are on top of it! The food.....WOW! I asked Tommy what he recommended ---- which only confused me more about what to get (in a good way) because it all sounded incredible!! I' would describe the cuisine as HIGHLY ELEVATED bar and comfort foodI had the Grouper Reuben with sweet potato fries. My husband had the Short Rib sandwich (a special). The flavors of everything were delicious! The bread pudding - was so unique and over the top. I never order dessert but their description of it had my mouth watering - even after needing a to go box for 1/2 of the meal I couldn't finish. Im pretty much speechless about this experience. Sightseeing in Sarasota and stopped here for lunch based on reviews. So glad we did!!! This place is clean, cute and the food is amazing. I had the club sandwich which was fantastic! My husband had the blue cheese burger and he raved about the flavor and quality of the meat and cheese. Everything came out quickly and piping hot! We had a slice of the key lime pie. Get it!!! Today, we visited 1818 for a late lunch. The service was prompt and of excellent quality. The stuffed potato wedges, blue crab Caesar salad, coconut shrimp, and house burger were all exceptional. Continuing my fish and chips expedition today I tried 1818 Grill. It is a very clean compact restaurant. The fish is flounder fried in beer batter which I thought was slightly on the thin side but very tasty. It was a very generous portion and the fish was delicious;it was served with creamy coleslaw and piping hot steak fries. I thought it was good value at $19. I hate to leave this review for a neighborhood eatery that we just tried last night. But, it must be done. Arrived early around 5:30, plenty of tables. Hmm? Is that good? We had looked at the menu before arriving and I knew I wanted the Grouper Rueben with sweet potato fries. Husband decided on the hamburger special, served on the marble rye too. Ordered a glass of wine (small but very adequate selection and one ice tea. Waited about 25 minutes for our meals. Wow, my grouper sandwich was soooo delicious. Fish fresh and done to perfection. Husband's burger was also well received along with his fries. Why did we wait so long to go to this gem? Owner was present, chatted with diners, brought drinks and yes, recommended desserts made in house. We had the bread pudding, delicious and not too sweet. Why I hated writing this? The grouper sandwich was delicious. The sauce was a specialty of the owner and paired nicely with the lightly blackened grouper. I especially like the fact that the grouper covered the whole bun. The food was served hot which is a must for me in restaurants nowadays. Sometimes on vacation you just want comfort food and the taste of home. That's what led me to order the roasted chicken when my family visited the 1181 Grill. This chicken was perfectly seasoned and clearly roasted with skill. It had a crispy golden skin that revealed tender, juicy meat inside. The entree came with garlic mashed potatoes, which were creamy and velvety smooth... with just the right amount of garlic to make them flavorful without being overpowering. They were the ideal companion to the chicken! The vegetable of the day was roasted zuchini and carrots and they were nearly my favorite part of my meal. Clearly very fresh and lightly seasoned and roasted to bring out their sweetness, they added a brilliant balance to the plate. We were driving back from Tampa and wanted a casual comfortable place to grab a sandwich on our way home. We read the reviews and decided to try The 1818 grill. My niece is flying back tomorrow and wanted to try the Cuban. She loved it. I tried it as well and loved it. The bread was so good! The pork really had great flavor. Only one of us tried something different. He tried the 1818 Hamburger. It was huge, cooked just the way he wanted it. Very juicy, flavorful and tender. We tried the steak fries and potato salad. The fries were hot and crispy with a soft inside and just the right amount of seasoning. The potato salad was nice and chunky with a creamy dressing. Good flavor but not over powering. The portions were generous. We all left full. Two of us took half our Cuban's home. Server was attentive and did a great job checking in on us. We all thought it was a great find and agreed we would come back to try more items on their menu. read more

Great Burger If you are looking for a great burger, you need look no further than Knick's. I had their Chipotle Crumbled Bleu Cheese Burger yesterday. Lots of flavor, what with both the Bleu Cheese and Chipotle Sauce, and I could still pick out the grilled flavor of the burger. Fresh toppings, including a generous slice of pickle, topped this large burger. One item they listed for dessert yesterday was Carrot Cake, so I had a slice. It was a big enough to share slice with cream cheese frosting. I certainly enjoyed my rather unhealthy but delicious dinner. Knick's is located along Osprey Ave in Southside Village. We arrived early enough to find both street parking and get a table at Knick's. By the time we left they were filling up. They do accept reservations. The interior is mainly done with wood, giving the place a darker atmosphere. I asked whether the artwork on the walls were by a local artist and learned one of the owners had done the painting. What an awesome little hidden gem. It's been there forever, super cozy, and the food is spot on for the atmosphere. Took out two young children there for an easy dinner night and everyone loved it. Had a snafu with my burger being undercooked, and I thought it might be a bad ending, but the staff took care of it fast and painless, were super nice, and I had a perfectly cooked burger out 5 min later. I was with a group that had the pleasure of eating at what was formally next and it's now 1818. It looks like a brand new place but it's still the same decor. Just freshened up. The menu is diverse soup, salads, burgers, fish, and chips, fish tacos Lasagna, and whatever their specials are. I had the grouper tacos and they were amazing. Everyone who I was sitting around, enjoyed their food and promised to come back. Lunchtime is a busy time for the new owner, but he managed to keep all our orders straight and everything correct. Daily specials keep things from being repetitive and the service is consistently friendly. Tom is the owner and you'll find him greeting the guests, taking orders and serving food on any given day. He remembers our names and always creates a fun environment to enjoy our meals. 1818 is in the center of Southside and is where the locals eat lunch because the food is good , prices are fair and the people are friendly. We have two friends visiting from NY and they wanted some comfort food. We chose to take them to Nick's Tavern. They have a great outside seating area but it was 59 degrees out so that wasn't an option. Nick is also an artist and the walls are covered with his paintings. The bar is really nice and it was packed with people as were the inside tables. We ordered their homemade ice tea ,cheeseburger, chicken sandwich, chicken fingers and fish and chips. The burger and the chicken were great however the chicken fingers and the fish was over cooked, probably because the hamburger had to be recooked because the first one was dropped on the floor. We figured that once it was done they put our food back in the fryer to warm it up. The waitress did give us two free desserts because we had to wait so long. Our waitress was super and loved the ambiance of the restaurants. Reservations are recommended. read more
