Tucked in an unassuming strip mall at the intersection of Marsh Ln and Trinity Mills, Mena's is a pretty standard Tex Mex restaurant. On the plus side, It has plenty of parking and a large lobby in case there is a wait. As far as food goes, the chips and salsa are fresh but pretty standard, there is nothing really to make these stand out. They are alright. This most recent visit I got a Paola's Plate with 3 different enchiladas. It had been about 2 years since I had last been to Mena's, but I don't remember it being so heavy. Out of the dish, the sour cream enchilada was the best one, but the queso on the soft cheese taco was too heavy and the chile con carne on the cheese enchilada was almost inedible. Service here is typically pretty transactional. We really felt like we were an obstacle to our waiter getting to do something else. read more

The place is a good size inside and out party of 6 was seated right away with no reservation even though it looked like there was a wait and a line. Maybe that was for larger parties, not sure. Our server did his job adequately but did not take my car order after I ordered a water to start and never asked if I wanted anything else to drink even after my whole party ordered beers and cocktails. The food was hit and miss. The Al Pastor was tasty but on the greasy side, the Spanish rice was very tomato sauce forward but was cooked to a perfect tenderness. The salsas were good and the side salad that came with my tacos and the charro beans were delicious. Easily the 2 stars of my plate. I would go for the Nachos if you are gna do the Al Pastor and skip the tacos as the greasiness made the tortillas very soggy and fall apart. They also do not give limes on the side but they do give cilantro and onion as well as a spicy sauce to put on top if you want it. I would give this place another shot and try the enchiladas or chimichanga next time. read more

Meh. It's ok. I always judge a Tex mex spot by the nachos first and foremost...followed by fajitas and margaritas. All the good stuff. This place had the dreaded five chip nachos. monsters. I'm visiting my Daughter & Granddaughter in Plano, TX so that means at least one visit to Menas Tex-Mex Grill Cantina. Once again a 5+ Star Epicurean Delight! I didn't have a reservation, but we got seat right away. Our server was excellent and made great suggestions for our entrees. We started with Strawberry Margaritas (a Virgin Piña Colada for my Granddaughter) and salsa with chips. Their salsa is perfectly spicy and the chips came warm from the oven. Entrees were Texas Burrito for my Granddaughter, Seafood Relleno for my Daughter and Beef Fajitas w/flour tortillas for me. All three were amazingly delicious and they don't scrimp on the size of the portions. Needless to say we had plenty of food to take home. For dessert we tried the Caramel-Stuffed Churros with vanilla bean ice cream (which we also took home). Since I'm here for a week I can go back again before I head back home to Florida! read more

I have been coming to Mena's almost 20 years now. What keeps me coming back you ask...fresh ingredients and traditional recipes have the most to do with it. I also enjoy their casual and inviting atmosphere. It has a cozy and homey feel, which puts you at ease...or maybe the margaritas had something to do with that! They also have a pretty nice patio. Sometimes there is even live music! On this past visit, I had the Cheese Chili Rellenos and they were delish! They also have really good homemade tortillas. The service is always good on every visit I have made here. Super friendly and super fast! Hopefully now you understand why Mena's in on my "rotation" When I am craving some good Tex-Mex! read more

I love Mena's. It's close, it's consistent, it's delicious! I didn't have time for photos, but I love this place. Started with a cup of chile con queso. Really good chile con queso. Great chips and salsa. I had the junior plate today. 1 cheese enchilada, 1 beef taco with rice and beans. Really good! My companion had the Texas burrito and really liked it. They have great fajitas, especially the beef. The chicken enchiladas are great. The fajita nachos are great. The beef fajita enchiladas are special. The rellenos are delicious. The guacamole isn't over seasoned. It's just right. They have gotten everything I have ordered over the years right! I've been frequenting since 2018. Worst beef enchiladas I've ever had - no flavor, no cheese & poorly constructed. Each bite fell apart before I could lift the fork. Refried beans and rice taste like a bad TV dinner. The chips & salsa were good though. The place is so small that additional booths were in the waiting area/entrance - the booths weren't even anchored down and shifted like a chair when guest left the booth. My daughter was in the mood for Tex Mex and I wanted to try a new place in our neighborhood and Mena's came up in my search as a good option. We went for lunch and it wasn't too busy so we were able to be sat right away. The menu had TONS of options, which was great, and we decided to start with their table side guacamole. Perhaps it is made table side during dinner, but during lunch it was not so we weren't able to customize it like I'm used to as the person is making it, but it came out in what seemed to be an authentic molcajete and it was delicious. I decided to try something I haven't seen served at other Tex Mex restaurants, the Texas burrito without cheese, and my daughter ordered the Chipotle Brisket Tacos. We were disappointed when the tacos arrived and they had cheese on them. As someone who isn't a fan of melted cheese on everything, I am always very careful to read the menu and see if cheese is included so I can ask for the entree without it. Cheese was not noted as being on the brisket tacos so we tried to scrap it off but, when we were unsuccessful, we had to order new ones. I'll admit, a pet peeve of mine is when all the ingredients aren't included on the menu, but kudos to the manager for coming over right away to ensure we got what we needed and they fixed the order promptly and gave my daughter more rice and beans which she thoroughly enjoyed...lol. This is a nice sized restaurant with various seating locations so I imagine it would have to get pretty busy for there to be a wait. I've read in other reviews that the margaritas are tasty so I'll look forward to trying those during my next visit - most likely with my husband. Byron was our server and was personable, fast and at the ready whenever we wanted something. I saw positive reviews on their Carne Asada which was a great choice! It has an aus jus and I added cilantro lime sauce and really enjoyed it. Delicious! Hubby always gets their chicken fajita nachos- always good, and sis-in-law got their mama's tacos with chicken. They started with their house frozen margaritas and I did the Mexican Martini which has a nice orange forward flavor. They've updated their menus and we tried the Mezcal Pineapple Margarita and loved the balance. Decent neighborhood tex-mex restaurant! We ordered chicken fajitas and the healthy plate. The chicken was perfectly cooked to be tender and juicy and had good flavor. The portions were perfect and the service was great and prompt despite coming here an hour before closing. Their salsas are tasty and they give you separate salsas per person which I liked. They also have chunk green salsa as well if you ask! We also ordered small guacamole which was sub par and they can work on the presentation. Overall, I wouldn't go out of my way to dine here but it's a solid choice for your local tex Mex dining. read more

Favorite plates here are the chicken flautas and the carne asada plates. Consistently great! Everything is prepared well and I never wait long for food after ordering. I usually get by with chips and salsa but I've learned to order a small bowl of queso, it's nothing fancy, but it's delicious! The restaurant is simple - not hole-in-the-wall run down but not extremely elegant either. It's the kind of place I take friends and family when they're in the mood for good food. Being special at an establishment is worth the visit. Mena's treats me like they want me to be here and care about my experience. I've lived one city block away for 10 years and just recently visited for the first time with a friend during lunch rush. Tonight, I stopped in during dinner rush on a Saturday at 6:30pm by myself. Both times, the manager Jose stopped by with a welcoming smile and thanked me for coming in, answered any questions I had and continued to work the room. I watched him - he actually helped his staff while managing the flow, attentive to the overall needs of the room. That's actually a rare talent. The food? Delicious and fresh - even the house guacamole served with my dish consisted of fresh avocado chunks. The mole is delicious. I asked if they had "other salsas" and they brought me a fresh tomatillo that was vibrantly bright in flavor, played well with my food. And then I asked if they had another salsa - they brought me a Serrano/jalapeño salsa with fire roasted tomatoes that was simply impeccable. Great flavor and heat, while well balanced in flavors. Menas is a step above your usual TexMex in ambiance, but thank god they've not over elevated the food. Every guilty bite is packed with flavor and calories, just like I want my TexMex. If you must be healthy, grab the Shrimp cocktail and thank me later. For gluten free, it's easy in TexMex restaurants but this one lets you not even have to think about it. Warning, don't eat too many free chips, yes they're great, crispy and not greasy at all, but you won't be able to eat the incredible fajitas with your choice corn or flour tortillas. The staff and service are always top-notch every time I go here! They have an all-day happy hour Mon-Thurs.. They have a great lunch special menu, dinner menu, and brunch menu. This was the Mena's Chimichanga w/o the salsa ranchers sauce but queso instead! Steaming fresh, and I cleared this plate with no problem! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because I was upcharged for a small side of Pico de Gallo (2.$$) and wasn't made aware. I love this place and will revisit many, many times in the future!
