Gio's is great spot for lunch if you are in the area. It had a mom and pop shop type feeling when I visited with just one man and woman working at the time. The pupusas here are excellent and some the of the best I've had anywhere. We tried the lorocco, bean and chicken pupusas. The corn cake was super tender and I loved the bits of browned cheese at the edges! I especially liked the lorocco and bean. Lorocco is a very small edible green flower with a slightly chewy texture in case you were wondering. I also had the lengua, pastor, and barbacoa tacos on corn tortillas. They weren't as flavorful as my favorite place Taqueria El Si Hay, but still quite good. All the chairs are carved with their name and logo which was a nice touch. The food is reasonably priced and the parking is plentiful in the strip mall which is always a plus. read more

Y'all, this is most definitely a gem, that's hidden in plain sight! It's located within a shopping center that I pass by all the time. The first thing I noticed was the ample parking space. Upon walking in I was absolutely delighted by the authenticity. It's super colorful. There are cute wooden chairs, nice spacious booths, and wrapped tables. They have a couple tvs. Also, the bathroom was clean. Now for "el comida" (the food) quite yummy! The first set of tacos I got were perfect. There was a crunch and the beef was cooked hard (which I prefer). The second set were super greasy and they gave me the wrong type of meat. However, I still ate them I don't understand the hype surrounding this birrio dipping sauce though. This was my first time having warm salsa and gotta say...not a fan! The salsa lacked flavor and the chips were bland. I didn't have enough room for a churro but they looked heavenly I hate to say it but I've got to be honest. The customer service was less than average and I'll just leave it at that. However, the poor service does NOT outweigh the overall pleasant experience I had. I will be back! Went here a few months ago. Was really excited to try a place close to the house. The papusa was greasy i took one bite and was done. My tacos were actually not good and can't even remember what I had but what drove me crazy was when I ordered tamales and he just laughed and told me that white girls love tamales my boyfriend liked his food but after that comment I was just annoyed and not going back. If you ever want consistently good food, this is the place. I get tacos from here constantly and they're exactly what you'd expect a REAL "Street taco" to taste like (fresh, balanced- though they're authentic to what I've had in Mexico before so it's almost insulting to call them "Street" but just for those looking for "street tacos"- go here lol.) Unlike some other places in the area, especially the chains, I've never had a problem with old onions, cilantro that went bad, lack of flavor, bones left in the meat (yeah, that happened at a chain in the area), nor have I ever gotten sick from the food here (what a time to be alive when you have to say this in a review like we're in the dark ages and don't know how to store food properly.) I've gotten rice and beans each time and those are also cooked well and flavorful (no over or undercooked rice or pale, bland refried beans.) The rice and beans were average, the beans weren't watered down like other places do. The salsa was like water! Call it a joint. Call it a dive. Call it a delightful little family run restaurant. All three apply. To start, Gio's is a tiny little place in a strip center that one would not not normally go into. Hearing about the place, we decided to give it a try, and are glad that we did. In an area dominated by Tex Mex, Gio's is a little more "Mex" than "Tex", and that's not a bad thing. Though tiny, the place was very clean and fresh. It helps if you speak Spanish, but if not, you can get by anyway. The folks there are so friendly and pleasant. Now for the food. The complimentary chips are salsa are quite good. The salsa has a nice depth to it, as well as some good back end heat. The chips are light and crispy. Very tasty. The sour cream chicken enchiladas are some of the best I've had anywhere. They were stuffed absolutely full of tender, flavorful mat, and covered in cheddar, as well as queso blanco, and sour cream. The rice and beans are on point as well. The ground beef enchiladas are also quite good. The star of the show though were the flautas. Light and crispy, they too were stuffed full of that flavorful chicken and then deep fried. They were then covered in lettuce and tomato and drizzled with sour cream sauce. So good! All of the dinner plates we got were $6.99. The only knock I have on the place is that the food was a bit more on the salty side from what I am used to having. For dessert, the churros are authentic. Filled with goats milk cajeta, they were so tasty, we couldn't stop. Normally, a hole in the wall place doesn't get a four star review from me. This place is different. They get extra points because the food is so good, and the folks are so friendly. The prices are so good, making this a great value. I can hardly wait to go back. Several individuals/groups were sitting/eating when I arrived. Ordered a 3-taco plate and a Jarritos (always a good thing) and waited around 10 mins. Friendly people working there. Tacos (barbacoa, pastor) were solid, especially the barbacoa. Each one was served inside 2 corn tortillas with cilantro and onions. Bonus - the hot green salsa had a pretty immense kick to it.
