Spent all week working out 7 days straight! It was time for cheat day! So where should I go? Menchie's! Back in the day I used to love TCBY. Rumor was this place would destroy TCBY... so here I am! I got here at the perfect time where it wasn't very busy! The young lady working the register was super sweet and gave me some cups so I could try a bunch of different flavors! I believe her name was Isabella. I told her it was my cheat day and she was happy to help! I have to say that there are some amazing flavors here that I did not expect! So, we used to frequent the one on Coors/Montano when we lived on that side of town. They were very friendly and welcoming there. We recently moved to the NE Heights and had our first experience at Menchie's this past Sunday. I was SUPER disappointed with this location. There was no hello when we walked in. Two of the flavors were pure liquid and shot all over me out of the machine. No response from the girl behind the counter other than, "you can use my sink to wash your hands if you want." So, they didn't have two of the flavors I wanted, no biggie. I chose a third type and was like, oh I will just make up for it with marshmallow sauce. They were out. She walked up behind me, took the empty container and just walked away with it. She never refilled it or offered to get me some. The customer service was just really lacking, a little "sorry about that" or something goes a long way. I only cheat and eat sugar once a month so, that was really disappointing for me. Anyway, my kids were happy enough, so I gave three stars because I don't think they noticed anything amiss. The frozen yogurt is good and my experience with Menchie's has been very positive until today. Today is my birthday and the cashier didn't even smile once or wish me a happy birthday. I just registered for the free birthday so I could get my serving of FREE yogurt. I won't be going back to this location unless I know there is a different cashier working there. I would like to speak to her manager because she definitely needs training in customer service. The container says our main ingredient is a smile. If that were the case, I got nothing for my $8 purchase for my birthday guests. My birthday experience was less that desirable. The girl at the counter was SUPER excited to tell us all about Menchie's and how it all works. We selected our yogurt and proceeded to cover it with the most amazing toppings. Although fresh fruit was available...my yogurt was already covered to the brim with chocolate rocks, frosted cookies, crushed kit kats... I got classic chocolate, Oreo and cake batter frozen yogurt. It was ALL delicious but my favorite was the cake batter. The facility was clean and cheery. The staff was helpful and happy. So not only was I able to get a super-fantastic-good-time-happy-fun-awesome-comfort-food treat for free, but I was able to get one for my wife as well! Kari is the best person to talk to in the place. I am not sure it that is the right spelling of her name, but she said her name is Kari with a "K" so that is how I think it is spelled. My wife and I see her often because...frozen yogurt...duh! But besides that, this is the best Menchie's to go to because they are always stocked up on toppings, everything is always super clean within a tolerance of half of a micron, and of course, you can have a sample of anything before you fill your cup. I always forget that they have waffle cups available before it is too late. I like that they give calorie counts right on the label of the flavors. The tables are always clean, the restrooms are also clean, the parking can be tight at some times and the service is always fantastic. Did you know that you can take home pre-packed quarts? When they have to service the machines, they have to empty and pack up all the excess yummy frozen yogurt. Where does all that go? It's all right there in front of you: frozen yogurt, toppings, sauces, dig in. The employees simply tally the weight of your sugary salvation and make the transaction. Tipping is a really tough one, for me. In my time, I've schlepped several soda fountains for a little pocket money during high school and college, and I know what a good day of tips can do. So I feel for these employees. But I also know that tipping is earned. Tipping requires some personal attention. Menchie's doesn't provide this angle. What do the employees actually do at Menchie's? Everything. They keep it well stocked. They clean the yogurt tubes. They mop floors and keep the bathrooms clean and provide a great, pristine experience for patrons. And for this, the chain should compensate their efforts, rather than the customers. The local option, Olo, doesn't ask for an extra buck simply because people work there. LOVE ths place! Finally, a frozen yogurt place near our house! Also, they have by FAR the biggest selection of flavors in Albuquerque. And they have peanut butter! Awesome!
