I was in the mood for a sweet treat and stumbled upon a healthier alternative, Menchie's. I'd never been here before and the worker on duty stopped what she was doing to explain everything to me according to each station. Everything is self serve. They have little cups for you to sample flavors, nutrition facts are posted above each flavor as well. I love how you can taste the flavors separately or already mixed rather than mixing flavors yourself. They offered already paired options. They also have a fresh fruit toppings bar as well as candied toppings. I decided on the strawberry and dulche de leche swirl with strawberry toppings and it was so good I forgot to even take a picture! They only offer one size bowl and the price is determined by the weight. Thats one thing I dislike because the bowl itself does have some weight on it and what if I really just want a small portion. I did see on Mondays I believe, you can fill a bowl with anything for just $5.99. I might have to stop by then as well. I wish I would've gotten the worker's name because she was just the sweetest and I truly appreciate her for helping me during my first visit. But they said they had already cleaned one scale, so would only use the other one. My hot caramel was not hot by the time everyone in front of me checked out. They said I could take another cup. The kid only eats vanilla and did not want a second cup of what was described as "tastes like a$$" The one girl went on to say "it is your own fault, we have sample cups, you should have tasted it before you bought it" As I explained we had an account there and didn't think the vanilla would taste different 100 times later, the 2nd girl rolled her eyes toward the first girl and then started to laugh at me, and so help me God, I now understand the whole Karen thing. We moved a few months ago to TX and I decided to take my 2 girls for an outing to Micheals (craft store) and then grab a frozen yogurt at Menchies. We walked into the store and there were 2 females and 1 male working (teenagers, all behind the circular counter). Not one greeted us as we entered the shop and walked past them. We LOVE menchies. It's our favorite quick dessert spot on the weekends. I love that it's Covid friendly with sanny and gloves. I also love that the toppings are prepackaged. I've been a patron of Menchie's since I visited their location in Steiner. Since this location in Lakeline is close to my house, I've been visiting here more often. I have to say I'm perplexed by the negative reviews. I've actually witnessed more ugly or rude behavior from customers who are being mean and demanding of the staff, whereas the staff are some of the sweetest and kindest, hardworking people I've met in a long time. While I do agree it is hard to find good help, you don't cultivate a loyal team by berating service workers and belittling or bullying them. The owners of Menchie's have a great business and a great staff to support them. The people who are complaining, who I've witnessed not just here but in other establishments, are the ones who are the problem. They expect society to bend to their whims and don't care about who they hurt when being nasty. The yogurt is fantastic but it's the people and the ambiance that keep me coming back. I love ice cream. Some say I love it more than life itself. Also, I loathe yogurt. When I walked in here the first time, I cringed at the thought of being surrounded by yogurt. And then I saw it- like a beacon beckoning me- SORBET. Not only is it water based, it's tasty as heck. Who says sorbet is just for palate cleansing ??! There are 12 flavors of fro yo to choose from , and 2 sorbets. You can either blend two flavors with their dispenser, or mix and match. There's a whole array of toppings such as Mochi, boba , strawberries, mango (!!) , hot fudge, Reese's ... I could go on. It's $0.49 per lb and you weigh in your creation at the end of the line. There's a reward program you can sign up for, if you frequent this place like I do. The staff is always Friendly, the place is always clean and bright. The patio is great , though I prefer indoors. We've loved going here over the years, but went in for a treat today (2pm) and were extremely disappointed. Despite all the signs on the outside to make you feel like they're taking covid seriously - masks, social distancing, sanitization, etc. - the 2 employees both had their masks on below their noses. C'mon! We're a year in. Everyone knows at this point that defeats the purpose of the mask. Either cater to people who don't care and get rid of the signs, or make your employees take it seriously. I believe Menchie's is about to open a location in Cedar Park near Costco, but we were in the Lakeline area last night and decided to give them a try. We walked in and the toppings immediately grabbed my full attention. There are so many! And all are neatly in display cases with clear to read labels and lids to keep the areas clean. Love! My type A was oh so happy and impressed with their organization skills. They have hot fudge, fresh fruits, and even cool whip in a separate chilled area. And the sample cups were laid out neatly on a platter by the yogurt machines. The seasonal flavor was Cinnabon and it ROCKED! Creamy, dreamy, and delicious. They even had Cinnabon bits you could top it with but I chose crushed Heath since its my fav. At the checkout counter the friendly cashier asked if we had their free rewards card. Every dollar you spend is worth one point and when you get to 50 points you get $5 off. Pretty good deal! We are now looking forward to having a location closer to us. So there 2 Menchies locations about equidistant from my home; this one is the one I prefer to go to; it has a lovely open air patio with tables and umbrellas and seating outside. It's quiet and very walkable to the movie theater just opposite the parking lot and also just a hop and skip on the same sidewalk to numerous essential shops like the large HEB grocery, Michaels, Healthy Pet, Sprint, etc. Very nice to have the ALoft hotel for the out of towners too.
