Parking is tricky but if you're lucky, you get spots right outside the parlor. My favs are almond brittle and bramble berry !!! They're a must- try!

Can't go wrong with Jeni's Ice Cream! This shop obviously has no parking since it's located right on South Congress, but we lucked out the day we went. The strawberry pretzel salad ice cream speaks to me as a Pittsburgher, and I loved it! I believe the other flavor I went with was a vegan lemon one. We tasted a few and made our decisions. This ice cream is so expensive, but worth it for a treat once in a while. The brambleberry is my absolute favorite. Great flavors!

The ice cream here is so good! I used to go to Amy's across the street to try to support local. But I just like the flavors better here. The darkest chocolate, the mint chip. It's hard to imagine a day on SoCo without ice cream. They let you try different flavors too. And the Jo's ILYSM wall is a great photo opp with your ice cream cones.

I previously tried Amy's per recommendation of a tour guide but a friend told me Jeni's is where it's at so I had to swing by before leaving Austin. Upon entering, the workers are so welcoming and friendly -- I tried a few flavors before settling on gooey butter cake, watermelon taffy, brown butter almond brittle and brambleberry (?) crumble. Everything was so yummy! Very similar to Salt and Straw in terms of vibes / set up. Would say Jeni's has better taste but Amy's has a better vibe!

Giving this a 5 star because I really liked their non dairy chocolate cake ice cream . Their waffle is fresh too

I don't think I'm the target audience for this style of store. I get it, it's gourmet ice cream, and you're in the domain. But $7 for two HALF scoops, which if you know your fractions means that's ONE scoop of ice cream, is ludicrous. Nonetheless, we got some because I didn't look at the prices ahead of time. I got a half scoop of the bramble crisp and a half scoop of their double dough. I don't get it- the berry was lacking that tart acidity, I only tasted graham cracker, and the double dough didn't actually have any pieces of cookie dough and tasted overwhelmingly of caramel. I tasted two other flavors- the coffe with cream and sugar and the lavender. The coffee wasn't bad- tasted like coffee, and I didn't get a lavender taste. I get it, it's made from scratch and the owner is a James Beard winner but I cannot justify ice cream at 7.25 per scoop before tax especially when it doesn't completely change my life.

Novel place to grab some ice cream. There's some innovation on flavours like lavender or goat cheese. Portions are tiny so getting a large (4 scoops) is like getting a small at other places. Nicely decorated inside and the staff lets you try the flavours before buying.

Came in on a Saturday night and there was little to no line. I loved being able to sample the different flavors before getting my scoops. The inside was small but there was seating outside to make up for it.

Once called the Trio, a Neapolitan of sorts with Milkiest Chocolate, Goose Tracks, and Double Dough. Choose your own adventure!

When I have an ice cream fix, Jeni's is the place to be for classic flavors (Darkest Chocolate and Double Dough) and creative blends like Brambleberry Crisp and Gooey Butter Cake. I love pairing up or sundae-style (3 mini-scoops) in their Signature dish. Always leave with a smile and hair smelling of waffle cones. It's love at first bite!

Out of all the ice cream spots I've tried in Austin, Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio, Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream easily takes the top spot. The flavors are all incredibly unique, but what really stands out is how well-balanced and delicious they are. Nothing feels like it's trying too hard to be different -- everything just works. The pricing is reasonable for the quality, and I've never had a bad experience with the staff. Everyone is friendly, helpful, and makes each visit enjoyable. Every time I go to Whole Foods now, I make sure to grab a pint of Jeni's to keep at home. It's become a freezer essential. They also release new seasonal flavors regularly, so it never gets boring. One of the best parts is their birthday reward. If you download the Jeni's app and register your birthday, you get four free scoops and waffle cones. The scoops are generous, too, so it's definitely worth signing up. My all-time favorite flavors are Gooey Butter Cake, which has vanilla cake crumbles and a rich caramel-butterscotch sauce, and Brambleberry Crisp, with oat streusel and a tangy brambleberry jam. Both are incredible.

Great selection

Great after Dinner treat! My fave creamy chocolate & peanut butter with chocolate flecks, layer cake! Oh so good!

TBH, I was going to try Amy's ice cream across the street since I'm back in Austin and all, but there was a line and I wasn't going to wait. When I say the people of Austin are SLEEPING on gourmet ice cream, I mean it. No line at Jeni's? I literally walked right up and ordered on a Friday night. DC would never. Got a standard-which means a scope of salted peanut butter chip and a scope of browned butter almond. Absolutely perfect with the little waffle chip in my bowl. The store front is small, though there are benches on either side of the entrance outside. No steps, so easy to get into.

Is there parking?

There's street parking up and down South Congress, but no designated lot.

Do they have any birthday specials?

I saw a sign to let them know if it's your birthday, for a free ice cream.

What time do they close on weeknights?

Between the three of us, there was a little bit of everything--from classic comfort flavors to things I never thought would work in ice cream but somehow absolutely did. (Please ignore the F, E, D--this was how I kept track of who ordered what). Roasted Beets & Fresh Mint (F, E) - the absolute winner of the night and my #1 flavor. I never thought I'd describe an ice cream as refreshing in the way a sorbet is, but somehow this pulled it off while staying rich and creamy. Delicious, subtly minty, unbelievably smooth, and surprisingly refreshing. The beet flavor was mild enough that it didn't taste earthy or overpowering--just mellow and creamy, while the mint made all the difference in brightening everything up. I genuinely never had such a refreshing ice cream that wasn't sorbet. Such a unique flavor that somehow works perfectly, and absolutely something I'd get again. GOAT Cheese, Thyme, and Honey (E, D) - my #2 and a complete 100% hit. Tangy, creamy, slightly savory, sweet, and incredibly unique while still tasting approachable. It somehow tastes exactly like the name promises without feeling too "out there." If you're nervous about goat cheese, trust me and try it. Easily an instant reorder. Dark Chocolate, Olive Oil & Sea Salt (E, D) - rounding out my top three. Such a good balance against the sweetness of the rest of the ice cream options. Rich, deep chocolate flavor without becoming overwhelming, while the olive oil and sea salt round everything out and keep it from tasting too sugary. A flavor I appreciated more and more between bites of sweeter scoops. Hill Country Honey & Vanilla Bean (E) - one of the smoothest vanilla bean ice creams I've had. It reminded me of a traditional ice milk soft serve in the best way possible: creamy, nostalgic, and incredibly easy to eat. A deceptively simple flavor done really well. Very Strawberry (F) - a clean strawberry flavor that leaned a little artificial, but honestly? Still really good. Bright, fruity, and easy to enjoy. Cookies & Cream (F) - this one hit HARD when you got a full spoonful. I never liked cookies & cream before this, but this one genuinely changed my mind. Probably the only cookies & cream I would willingly eat. Chocolate Chocolate (F) - love chocolate? Get this. That's all you need to know. Coffee & Cream (D) - oooh. This immediately reminded me of a keto coffee ice cream I had once and really enjoyed. Rich coffee flavor without tasting too bitter or overpowering--would absolutely get this again. Sweet Cream w. Strawberry (D) - unfortunately, a miss for me compared to the others. Too creamy for me and not enough strawberry flavor to justify choosing it over the Very Strawberry. Overall, the adventurous flavors completely stole the show here. My tier list by far: 1) Roasted Beets & Fresh Mint, 2) GOAT Cheese, Thyme, and Honey, and 3) Dark Chocolate, Olive Oil & Sea Salt. Unique flavors that actually feel intentional rather than gimmicky, and all three are instant repeat orders for me. Atmosphere-wise, the place was pleasant, parking was surprisingly easy, and while it wasn't overwhelmingly crowded, the place is definitely more popular than it first appears. I never thought I'd be a fan of Americanized ice cream--usually it's way too sweet for me--but Lick completely proved me wrong. Somehow, the flavors felt balanced, intentional, and actually let the ingredients shine without drowning me in sugar. Touché, Lick. Dangerous spot for indecisive people because suddenly you're convincing yourself that yes, maybe you do need another scoop.

Quite busy at 8:15PM on a Sunday! About ten people ahead of us and only two people working so it took about 10-15mins with people asking for samples and such. While we were there, it was always a packed line so it definitely gets really busy from 8-9PM! We got three larges for a total of twelve flavors, a little bit of overlap: Mine: Dark Chocolate Olive Oil and Sea Salt - Really liked this, the bitter saltiness offset the creaminess really well. Coffee with Cream - A very light but roasty coffee, like a light coffee. I liked this!; Goat Cheese, Thyme and Honey - The herbal flavor is more subtle than I expected! Not too sweet, liked this one Sweet Cream & Strawberry - this one didn't stand out much to me Others: Roasted Beets and Fresh Mint - I really liked this one! The beets and mint hit on the back of your tongue, yum Chocolate Chocolate - Very intense chocolate, not too crazy about it though Cookies & Cream - Surprisingly good! I liked this one Very Strawberry - way more strawberry than the sweet cream. I'd recommend this over the sweet cream and strawberry Hill Country Honey & Vanilla Bean - Pretty light, a classic. Thought it was okay. If I had a tier list it would be: 1) Coffee with Cream 2) Goat Cheese 3) Dark Chocolate Olive Oil 4) Roasted Beets and Mint 5) Cookies & Cream 6) Very Strawberry 7) Vanilla Bean 8) Chocolate Chocolate 9) Sweet Cream & Strawberry Overall, a few hits, a few misses, but it was a fun tasting experience. We paid via inKind with no issues, which made it a pretty solid value.

Located on 6th Street, Jim Jim's is surprisingly accessible with parking spots available out front and just around the corner. It's not a sitdown place so keep that in mind for your stop, but the line does move fast and they are very efficient. There's a good variety of flavors and things they serve from italian ice to ice cream and shakes. We opted for a strawberry italian ice with condensed milk on top. From the first bite we were in heaven. The flavor is very thorough which is not always the case for Italian ices where it can sometimes be a bit muted. Every single bite of this was packed with flavor. They also carve out a bit of the middle to put the condensed milk which makes every bite much more equal than if it was just placed at the top. This was by far one of, if not the best, Italian ices we've ever had. We would very much recommend it to anyone in the Downtown area looking to cool off.
