I've now gone to Menchie's twice only to find they closed early, even though the website (per Google) said they were still open. This time I made sure to come EXTRA early to avoid that happening again, and they were out of multiple toppings. It's really frustrating to make the trip and not get what was advertised both times. I understand things happen, but updating store hours online and keeping toppings stocked would make a huge difference. "Menchie's Frozen Yogurt" is located in the Peppertree Plaza Shopping Center in Livermore,CA. I was there on a Thursday evening around 730pm. It was cooling down to about 77-80*F. This was my first time at this location. Menchie's Frozen Yogurt is a self-service frozen yogurt place. Basically, you serve yourself, weigh it, and pay. There's six machines, two flavors each, and the middle valve is the "twist" or mixed. There's a wide variety of dry toppings such as chocolate chips and crushed nuts. Also, they have hot toppings such as chocolate and caramel. So how was my visit? It was okay. As I walked in, I noticed the place was a little warm, probably because people keep opening the front door. There was about 8-10 people inside. Some teens were just standing around talking. As I waited in line, I noticed the machines were dispensing slowly. I'm not sure why. I don't think it makes a difference between pulling the valve slowly or just pulling it down. It's the same frozen yogurt, you have no control over the volume or density of the mix. I used to clean and assemble ice cream and milkshake machines back in my fast food days. The machine is a two barrel freeze chamber with mixers. The mixers have blades that constantly blend ice crystals into the yogurt. That gives the frozen yogurt that creamy icy texture. The mixer pushes the frozen yogurt forward, and it's released when you pull down on the valve. I picked the chocolate-vanilla twist w/ some hot caramel and choco chips. My yogurt was semi-frozen, a little melted already. It weighed in at 8.6 oz, and I paid $6.05. Only one cashier was on duty, and he was very polite and thanked me for dropping by. Not bad! I came here because I had a $5 birthday reward. It was my first time trying this spot. I usually have frozen yogurt from either Yogurtland or Pinkberry. Menchie is comparable and can compete with these two companies. I appreciated the cute and brightly colored spoons. It's a small detail that made me 1% happier. Additionally, they offer Nutella and Nutterbutter cookies as toppings. Yogurtland doesn't have this available! For that alone, I give this spot an extra star! I was going to rate it three stars because the machines seem to be faulty. I pushed down the lever and the frozen yogurt swirled in slow motion. Even a customer beside me complained to the staff. I'm sorry but the customer service here was horrid. I'm very disappointed in my experience here. I've been to plenty of other branches of Menchies and I've never been treated like this before. Multiple people in our party got the pineapple dole whip flavored yogurt and it all tasted like bleach. The toppings were also stale and tasted like chalk. Not to mention it made our tongues burn. We spoke to the manager/owner about it and he tasted it and it was fine and that it was a "new recipe." Yet he still flipped the sign over to make sure no other customer would get the flavor. I have been to a plethora of of other Menchie branches but this one is the worst. The pineapple flavor tasted like bleach and stung me and my party's tongue. The toppings were also chalky and left out for a while. After we told the owner that something was off he went back and tasted it and told us that nothing was wrong, however he proceeded to flip over the sign to close the machine. We have been here a number of times in the past month. Twice already, the vanilla dispenser is broken. This is unacceptable. You have workers here that do not know how to maintain or troubleshoot these machines. Vanilla (and chocolate) I would imagine are the most popular flavors. This cannot happen. Serve vanilla in one of the other more reliable machines if you need to. "I don't know what happened to the machine" is not an answer that customers want to hear. If this happens again, we will just move on to First Treat moving forward, and I don't care if parking is less convenient there. At least their machines work. read more

Me and my mom drove 30 minutes to come here to this location for the first time for a late snack because we love menchie's but do not live close to one. Online it says they close at 9:30pm, We arrived at 8:45pm and they tell me they close at 8:30pm. I was very disappointed that they're advertising they close at a certain time when they really don't. UPDATE: I still love Menchie's ... WHEN IT'S OPEN DURING ITS BUSINESS HOURS. Last night was the THIRD time my husband and I had come before closing time and the shop was CLOSED. We arrived at 9:40pm, expecting it to be open until 10:00. The employee (blonde girl) was at the register, and the lights were all on, but the door was locked. She looked up when we tried the door but otherwise ignored us. As we sat in our car dejectedly trying to decide on a suitable substitute (Cold Stone is closer, but Baskin Robbins has daiquiri ice. 1st Treat Yogurt is never even considered), we saw another car pull up and also turned away by the locked door. At this point, the employee was cleaning the floor, looked the guy straight in the eye and kept cleaning. That car's driver was smarter than me though and must've learned from previous rejections because they didn't even bother parking; just pulled up to the curb while the passenger hopped out. NOTE TO OWNER: Bob, Please let your employees know that the shop is to stay open during the expected business hours. You are losing potential customers. It's become a joke with me and my friends .. "I want Menchies... yeah but they're probably not open!" . My sister (and many of her kid's friends and family) have already made the switch to 1st Treat Yogurt because "the hours are more consistent." And that's when they're not going to Fat Straw located in the same shopping plaza. Menchie's is my favorite frozen yogurt, and that's why I keep coming back. But at some point, I will sadly have to stop getting my hopes up and instead just go to Cold Stone or Baskin Robbins from the start, which are both closer to my house anyway. The last time I went there which was last week, 2 people were using spoons to sample yogurt from the machines. They went down the line using the same spoon and touching the yogurt spigot to catch the yogurt coming out, tasting it and then on to the next machine using the same spoon. When I told the girl running the register she said they were out of their taster cups so people were using spoons. I asked her if she thought that was sanitary and she shrugged. The choice of toppings is large with the usual Nuts, Candies, Fruits, Cookies, Sprinkles, Boba and Mochi ect Along with various sauces. The variation of flavors is really good as they have some tart flavors along with sorbet and they also list the nutritional information of each flavor. I had never been to this location before, much less known that Livermore even had a Menchies. I have been to the San Ramon and Dublin locations but it took the closing of the Dublin one to make me find the one in Livermore. This location is quite hidden in a strip mall at the west end of town. Even with GPS leading me to it, it took me a while to find it once in the parking lot. I was happy to find a large store with many tables inside and out as well as a staff of more than one person who was very much on top of cleanliness and organization. Kudos to the crew on the evening of April 22, 2019. Beyond that, it was as I expect Menchies to be. Good selection of flavors (thanks for a number of dairy-free options!) and the usual topping bar. I use to really love this place, but they have really gone down hill. I go in at least once a week because my son loves it. Every time I've been in there's only about 4 flavors that actually work (a few weeks ago I went in and there was one 1 flavor actually working.) This place is also PHILTHY and their refrigerated area is always empty, never stocked doesn't matter what time of day it is. I like how the counter to pay is in the middle of the store and you go around the right side of it to get to the waffle bowls (plain or chocolate dipped with sprinkles) and regular cups. Grab some sample cups and taste away! When my cousins and I went, I tried cake batter, ice cream sandwich, featured flavor peach mango, and low carb butterscotch. The butterscotch tasted lighter than I expected, which was perfect and not overpowering. They have at least ten flavors available everyday. After choosing your yogurt options comes the toppings bar with fresh fruit: strawberries, mango, pineapple, maraschino cherries, etc. plus whipped cream, chocolate/caramel sauces, popping boba, brownie bites/cookie dough/sliced Reese's PB cups and a tidy set up of dry toppings in plastic compartments with a lid that you lift open. This includes sprinkles, nuts, cocoa pebbles, candy bits, yogurt chips, yummy thin mint cookie bits, mini gummy bears and much more. Service is great! I think it was Erin that recommended I get the Menchie's rewards card since I paid for my group's yogurt totaling over $20. I also purchased the peach lip balm and it actually tastes sweet. Not a good froyo option. Was excited to take my toddler to get ice cream for the first time ever. We walk in and no staff is visible. I hear a "welcome in" greeting from the back. One emerges after we've already bypassed a thermometer and hand sanitizer station (not like I feel that is necessary at this stage and knowing Covid isn't food borne, but cool effort that isn't even being implemented, lol) and started getting our ice cream. I go to pay, leave a tip, as I always do when using self service stuff. Indoor dining tables aren't set up (due to Covid but restaurants have indoor dining now, so what's up with that?) so we go to the 2 outdoor tables. They're both filthy. Foot prints on the seats, food stuck to the table surfaces, and crumbs all over the ground. It's very clear that they've been sitting dirty for a while. My husband goes back and asks for them to clean the table so we can enjoy our melting ice cream. She says "I can after these customers check out".....so you can't grab a wet rag and wipe off a surface quickly while your customers who just paid and tipped are standing right there with a toddler in their arms trying to enjoy your product? And the other customers just walked in as we were trying to sit down....so they'll be at least 5-7 minutes to pick out flavors and toppings. Absolutely ridiculous. So mad I tipped--it's apparent they do not deserve any extra than the minimum wage they are "earning", if you want to call it earned. We get home and eat our ice cream. But lately Menchies has been cleaning the vanilla machine every Friday directly after school for the last 4 weeks. I really like to come to this place. The store is small but what they lack in size they make up in flavor choices. Almost every time that i go into Menchie's they have different flavor to try, which in my book is a plus. And just like most like most fro-yo places they have other toppings you can add to dessert my favorite happen's to be gummy bears. Prices at this Menchie's will vary because the pricing depends on how my fro-yo you put into your cup. All in all I would definitely recommend this place to my friends, its my go to. read more
