My friends and I stuffed our faces with pizza and decided to walk it off to check out places around downtown. It was a very hot Saturday and we decided to cool off with some ice cream from Loard's. I have always been a fan since my childhood, butter brickle and peppermint ice cream are my go-to. I had never visited this location before. Walking in, the ambiance wasn't giving me the warm fuzzies like the other well-lit Loard's locations did. It's pretty dim with only one window emitting any light from outside. It still has it's pink and white interior, but it doesn't scream "ice cream shop." One thing that stood out to me was the menu. It appeared they might've updated several of their prices with the edits marked all over it. It just looks tacky, but I understand that making a new sign can be costly. Hopefully in the near future this could be given a nice facelift. We ordered a scoop of ube, a scoop of toasted almond, and a scoop of mint chocolate chip ice cream. Unfortunately you couldn't eat indoors so we stood outside the shop and hurried to eat the ice cream before it melted. Would I come back here again? Maybe, but I prefer the Castro Valley location more as it just gives more of the feels of an actual ice cream shop and it's got a pleasant vibe to it. read more

run down ice cream place. all I saw was signs everywhere that said no no no for example no samples no restroom no sitting longer than 30 minutes at tables they charge for every little thing one dollar extra for sprinkles for my daughters ice cream. Place was dirty and ice cream was lacking flavor. They don't even offer water when you sit at the table. I used to love going to this place years ago but it's not the same can definitely tell owner is cheap will not be back we just moved to the area we will spend our money elsewhere when we want ice cream. read more

I have been a patron of Loard's for many years and it is one of the "original" ice cream shops in Livermore that had been around for as long as I can remember! After dinner a few nights ago we decided to stop by this Loard's (we usually go to the one on second street but this was closer) and just by walking in the door I was stunned. The interior was messy and dirty and very barren of any decorations, the man behind the counter was not very hospitable, and it appeared that every request we made was a burden. A San Leandro native, I grew up on Loard's Ice Cream and during a recent trip to Downtown Livermore a few friends and I decided to get some an "ice cream nightcap" if you will while my friends were having a night out in Downtown Livermore. While there were many different flavor offerings to choose from, I ended up choosing the peppermint. It was good and refreshing, but not sure why but my ice cream melted super fast :( while my friends' stayed consistent longer. Customer service wasn't bad. The workers were very friendly and welcome to give any suggestions as needed. Overall? Not necessarily wow'd by this location but still find Loard's to be a delightful treat to end or start any day or night. So disappointed in this visit to Loard's. I called and ordered a caramel pecan ice cream pie. I was told they don't have that flavor ice cream. She asked if she could make it with vanilla. I said ok but stupidly didn't instruct her on actually putting something in the pie crust besides vanilla ice cream. No pecans and a smidge of caramel in the crust. Let me start saying that this review is specifically for this location, cause I haven't visit other ones yet... Ambience: very Spartan, looks like it is still under construction, and definitely not very clean (Windows, ice cream display cases -clear top part and lower part badly stained, floor, chairs and tables). Unfortunately I got my pants badly stained since I seated on a dirty chair (I didn't pay attention before sitting!!!) where someone else had spilled ice cream and obviously nobody took care of clean it before next customer (in this case me) used that chair. And this brings me to the service : not really good, one employee only, in a busy and hot afternoon can't really take care of customers in a proper way and keep the place clean at the same time. To be honest she wasn't the most customer oriented person either :)))) she looked annoyed by our questions (first time we were having Loard's ice cream) , but I totally accept that everybody can have a "nope" day. Talking about the ice cream, to me it was definitely too sweet and not enough flavorful, I mean you expect that a dark chocolate really tastes like what it suppose to be, in my opinion was pretty bland. (Wanted to make sure I made that clear.) Snag a cup after dinner in downtown Livermore. Friendly service from the cashiers, cute ambiance, and best of all, THEY HAVE SORBET!! I went to the one in Castro Valley and although that one has a way cuter theme of decor going on, this Loard's has Sorbet! You don't find many ice cream shops that offer sorbet. Even though I was stuffed from lunch, I couldn't pass up the opportunity of getting a scoop of Strawberry Sorbet. It was blazing hot day in Livermore when we came here. So hot, in fact, that a portion of Main Street lost power...Lord's Ice Cream being one of those establishments. I imagine there's nothing quite like having your product melt into a puddle of slime and goo. Loard's is a Livermore Ice Cream destination. Since moving to Livermore 9 years ago, we have frequented the 2nd St location once a week (at least). Yesterday was their soft opening in their latest space on 1st St. The size is just right and the decor is traditional Loard's bright Pepto Bismol pink. There were numerous people to help serve some of the best ice cream in the West. I choose a double of Rocky Road and coffee placed inside a freshly made waffle cone. Excellent! And it's a few blocks closer to my home. YEA! My only reservation was the price seemed higher than their 2nd St location. Or was that just a price rise throughout the small chain? Loard's is a nice ice cream parlor on first street in downtown livermore and I love it! The staff is extremely friendly! The ice cream there is super delicious and they just opened this one up (They have another location at 2nd street as well be sure to check it out!) From what I understand this one is much more of a foot traffic location where its more "on the go." Basically if you are looking for a more dine in location you are better off going to the location on 2nd street! They had a big variety of flavors and all the ice cream looked good a fresh (meaning it didn't look frost bitten and all nasty lol). They are supposed to be open at noon today (Saturdays 12-9:30) and I am here with a car full of children at 12:30 and the are closed. No lights on, no one inside and no explanation why they are not open. There is a sign that they now have a second location open in town with its address, but why take the chance driving there if it's closed too. So I walked in and was greeted by several people who were rearranging the ice cream boxes and taking out the empty ones. I believe the owner of the establishment was actually the one who served me my double scoop of mint chocolate chip (in a Styrofoam bowl) and the two dog biscuits with some kind of cute cream on each end. All in all I enjoyed my ice cream almost as much as my puppy enjoyed her treats ^~^ I prefer the chocolate malt crunch rote aid ice cream whenever I think of getting ice cream not at the grocery store and at first I though 4.95 + tax for double scoops seemed a little steep but they do give you a lot, and I haven't seen many places offer treats to buy for dogs as well that weren't pet stores. There was a time when Loard's Ice Cream played an important role in my young life. It was THE parlor to go for a good scoop of ice cream. The ice cream is still decent....I had a single scoop today with my 12 year old. Store was empty at 2:30 on August 9th, 2015. We had just had a wonderful lunch down the street at Dimitri's. Young lady working the counter had the personality of a sack of spit. Barely able to carry on a conversation with this woman. I imagine having a deep conversation is asking too much...but honestly...would it have killed you to smile and act like you gave even the tiniest bit of interest in our having wandered into your deserted business??? Your sloth like movements were oddly hypnotic...and I am still impressed how you were able substitute grunting for language....but may I suggest either getting more sleep...or snorting espresso to dial up your enthusiasm to a level so as to convince people you are not an actual zombie? read more

Very disappointing! This place is run down. Even the ice cream looks old. My husband and I ordered two milk shakes. More than $6 each. At that price it should be a good size, and in my opinion whipped cream and a cherry. But it was pretty small. No frills . He put in so much milk that you barely tasted the ice cream. Won't return for sure . I would have given zero stars. But I guess you need at least one. So for one star, it's a great location! read more

Neon open sign on, store due to be open 20 more minutes, but clear the girls behind the counter didn't want to be there since all the chairs were on tables already and their sighs and frustration at every customer request spoke volumes. Rude to the two groups of customers before us, and extremely rude to my family with no apparent reason. Reason came to light though when they locked the door 15 minutes early. Wish this was an isolated issue, but one of the employees that was there last night has been rude the last few visits no matter what time of day it was. Not sure what her deal is, but she always seems to be there, maybe she's burned out. Doubt I'll be heading back anytime soon. Terri and I came in here after walking around the downtown area. The inside has quite a few tempting goodies to look at, plus a tray of dog cookies for furry companions. They have a good range of different ice cream flavors. After browsing up and down the display case, the one that caught my eye was the Blueberry Cheesecake. I wanted a rootbeer float with the Blueberry Cheesecake ice cream, but sadly the soda fountain was broken. I was a little bummed yes, but then an idea popped into my head and I walked over to the cooler they have in the corner and grabbed a can of rootbeer. I ordered one scoop of ice cream and since the man saw me grab the soda, and heard what I wanted, he put the ice cream into a cup instead of a bowl for me. Awesomeness. I personally fell in love with my little concoction. It tastes a lot like a normal rootbeer float with vanilla except you get the slightest of flavors from the blueberries and the cheesecake. Loard have mercy on me. Worth every penny for this special treat that has my mouth watering-the thin mint ice cream sundae - minus the cherry. Chocolate mint ice cream topped with Loard's very own thin mint candies. Don't forget whipped cream and hot chocolate fudge. I always see the same two girls working here and they are both very kind.
