It took about 10 minutes to receive our soft serve, which felt a little longer than expected, especially for a dessert. The shop itself looked a bit untidy, and I was surprised to see markings on the walls considering it's located in what appears to be a newer shopping center. That said, the soft serve was absolutely delicious and definitely the highlight of our visit. I'm not going to lie - after finishing our dinner at Chubby Cattle, we weren't entirely sure if we were sweating from all of the meat or the Pleasanton heat. Optimistically, I'd like to think it was more due to the latter, but regardless of the reason, we knew immediately we needed a cold sweet treat to cool ourselves off. Or, more specifically, a short walk across the parking lot to get some Somisomi! Much like all of their other locations that I've been to, this Somisomi is pretty minimal in nearly every way - from their design and decor to their menu. However, the latter, in particular, works for them, keeping things simple and helping them get orders out quickly. Plus, it's not like their menu is short on options - from their ahboong and upside ahboong, to their soft serve and taiyaki, to their milk drinks, cold brew, and cold brew float, they have a great selection to choose from. Not to mention how their variety of flavors of soft serve, taiyaki, and toppings allows for a dozens of ways for you to customize your order! While I already had an idea of what I wanted to get before we stepped inside, it didn't take me long to decide on their flavor once I saw their featured flavor. For my UPSIDE DOWN AHBOONG ($7.95), I opted to get their Cookies 'n Cream & Milk Tea Swirl with a Red Bean Taiyaki and Crushed Biscoff Crumbles. Sadly, this wasn't quite as awesome as I had hoped for, but this was still pretty good. Mostly, the taste of the milk tea in the swirl was hard to notice, but I did think the cookies 'n cream side of it was great. As before, though, the highlight of me was the taiyaki (with the swirl in it), as the red bean filling was delicious and I loved the batter - slightly crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Despite how there was a small crowd ahead of when we got in line, it seemed like it only took a few minutes before all of our orders were ready. What's more, the workers here were all super friendly, which is impressive given how they're just constantly churning out orders one after another for hours on end. Considering how I'm so late to the Somisomi party, I'm sure there may still be some novelty to coming here for me, but it doesn't change the fact that I still thoroughly enjoyed my order. What's more, I don't know what the other dessert options are around Pleasanton, but I imagine there aren't many others that are also open so relatively late (open until 10:30pm on Fridays and weekends). It didn't take too long, and price was decent in comparison to these spots. When they called my name, they asked if I wanted any toppings. I had no idea, so I got it as is, but that was a nice touch. The soft serve itself was really pretty, but flavorful wise was a bit bland. The matcha was rather subtle, but the texture was really good. On my visit last week, I ordered the Upside Down Ahboong with the Pistachio soft serve flavor, and with the black sesame filling. It was so good! The ice cream is very creamy and rich. I ordered the milk flavor. It's pretty good but it felt one note. I was hoping for more exciting toppings like macarons or cotton candy. This visit we came in on a Tuesday evening and of course the line was clear out the door! The staff at this location are always extremely efficient and handle busy crowds all while still being extremely friendly and helpful to each customer. This location is very clean and has a large enough space to wait for your order even during a rush. The soft serve here is very delicious and creamy and comes with several topping options. I understand it's hot and everyone is tired from the long day. I'm thankful that we made the cut before the line was cut off, but that doesn't negate from the terrible customer service. I gave a $5 tip, understanding that it was probably a long shift. The cashier had an AirPod in his ear while taking orders. He got my partner's name wrong, so when they were calling us, we weren't paying much mind. When they got our attention and directed us to our completed order, the gentleman passing out the orders pushed our cups towards us like we did something wrong. We said thank you, but nobody looked up. I was super close to going back to the register to ask for my tip back. Just because it was a long shift doesn't mean you treat your customers like that, especially ones who understand and are trying to help in this small way. If you need to cut off the line, you may want to consider doing it 15-20min prior to close, especially when the line is out the door on a hot day. You get to choose between soft serve, taiyiki, and somi sips (drinks). It's a build your own style and you can choose between dozens of flavors and filling combinations. They also have weekly swirl combos. I got this weeks special swirl, cookies and cream and milk tea, in a Nutella filled taiyiki. The staff happily took my order and made it very quickly. SomiSomi is an excellent spot if you're looking for something sweet or an after-dinner dessert in the area that stays open later than many other businesses. Ordering is fairly quick with their simplistic menu. Their best items are the soft serve, which is super smooth and creamy. You can order it in a cup, taiyaki, or float. There are about 5-6 base flavors and some mixed flavors (swirls) depending on the season. The cookies and cream flavor is on point! You can also order taiyakis with a flavor inside of them too. What's also nice is the toppings are complimentary - no additional fee! Service is friendly and relatively quick. The lines can look long, but it moves. Parking is readily available in the lot, not a concern at all. There's also no trash can inside so you'll need to dispose your trash outside. It makes sense why this spot is still around after covid, but it would be nice if they brought back the sample cups so customers can test out the flavors before purchasing and truly enjoying their dessert to the fullest.
