    Iced Kona Mocha

Came here strictly for the Kona Mocha Latte, so I can't review on food. I did a quick online order to pick up while on my afternoon Sunday stroll. Employees were all very nice and friendly. Kona coffee flavor was prominent, with some chocolate but not overpowering the delicate flavors. Would come back to try food next time too. Located inside the Ilikai Hotel.

We went to Menehune Grille after a long day of travel as we are staying at a nearby hotel. We got seared right away and it took a few minutes for our waiter to come to our table but all the tables were full so no problem there. We had enough time to look at the menu so we ordered cocktails and our food at the same time. Our cocktails were good - nothing to rave about but we enjoyed them. Our food took so long we waited around 40 minutes after we finished our cocktails to receive the two dishes we ordered. We were told 3x by a couple different staff that our food would be out shortly, and it just wasn't. We ordered the social which was a blackened ahi ban mi. It was okay but I don't think it warranted the $35 price. The atmosphere was lovely, open air with garden and harbor views. Wish we would have had a better first eating experience upon arrival to the island.

Went to Menehune Grill located in the Ilikai Resort, great open air restaurant/bar. We went for a late lunch and shared the grilled chicken sandwich. It had a great flavor and was prepared well. The service was good and friendly. Great location in the resort for getting a drink, watching a game or getting a bite to eat.

the tip that was automatically added even after we did tip. Just noticed the part about paying by card or cash. We did pay cash that night.

Located at Ilikai Hotel. There was 8 of us in our party and the host said they don't take reservations on Friday nights because of the hula show and fireworks. After a 30 minute wait, the host decided to seat us in the dining room instead of the patio area. This was perfect because we had the whole place to ourselves. Our server, Jason, did the best he could to get what we needed despite the fact that 1) I don't think they were expecting to have us in the dining room and 2) we still had to ask more than once to get waters refilled or to get silverware. The food came simultaneously as the fireworks started so we were able to view them right by our table. Our server told us we could go out the balcony for our own private viewing! Everyone loved their food. The steaks were cooked as requested and they enjoyed it. My mom liked her shrimp. We had nachos as an appetizer and it was enough for everyone. The portions were generous. Then as a treat, our server played the piano for us. Overall, the dining experience on this evening was amazing. My daughter had the best birthday so far! Thank you crew team. They do have hotel valet services for $6 for four hours with validation. The only concern that I had for this evening was the tipping portion. I know as a patron I/we should have looked at our bill. We overlooked the part where they automatically added the tip to the bill. I'm assuming they did this since we are a bigger party. But what constitutes a big party - 6, 7, 8, etc.? There was nothing on the menu or any signs that said the tip (20%) would be automatically included for bigger parties. Next time, I will look through my bill thoroughly and not double tip!

Excellent little hidden gem The food was yummy My wife loved the gluten free mochi pancakes and ordered them twice during our stay. Light fluffy mochi pancakes served with maple syrup. I had the half papaya filled with yogurt and granola the two days and thought it was delicious! Fresh papaya, yummy yogurt and crunchy granola. Sprinkled with honey, very yummy! The service was wonderful. Friendly waiter very helpful and personable. Always filled our glass with water or our cup with coffee. The ambiance is friendly and comfortable and they have live music in the evenings as well. Much a relaxing place to be!

Solid smash burger and a wide range of food items at this grille near Ilikai Hotel in Waikiki. Also a good location to watch sports.

Servers are great, very friendly. Food is delicious and they have happy hour. Fish tacos, Kailua pork breakfast burrito, and teriyaki chicken were all good. Chips and guacamole were YUM but the homemade pico de gallo was watery and bland (very disappointing).

"Touristy bar food" that sums it up, food is blah and meh, nacho's with pork (assuming it's supposed to be Kalua pig/Kalua pork) was cold, reddish orange(?) with too much smoke flavoring - not good, chips were stale, gross. Burgers are ok, I think menu is targeted for the tourists with limited fresh local flavors and ingredients. We only came here because cousins were staying at the Ilikai. One redeeming fact is they have a nice view of Waikiki (only if you are seated outside). We came here late, 9:00 pm maybe that's why there was lack of service, where we had to flag down our server. Desserts are better than their food.

BAD EGGS - not scrambled soft.
    Craig S.

If you're a breakfast place, eggs should be a basic skill. Unfortunately, that's not the case here. I ordered scrambled eggs, soft, and instead received something resembling an overcooked egg pancake. How does this even leave the kitchen? This was my second attempt at ordering eggs here. The first time, my plate arrived buried under so much pepper it was completely black. They apologized, saying it was intended for another table, took it back, and then returned with the overcooked eggs. I didn't have time to try a third time. I miss Cinnamon's. The quality here is disappointing, and I won't be returning. With Cinnamon's and Pesca's gone, we're running out of good breakfast options on this side of Waikiki.

    Shrimp Scampi
    Mark K.

Breakfast review: 4 stars I ordered the Da Benny benedict which had smoked kiawe pork. It was a nice change in flavors but the meat was a bit hard to chew. Maybe that's how this type of pork is. Don't know. My daughter ordered the avocado toast and a side of fried rice. Both were decent. They need to use a different type of bread for the avocado toast. Dinner review: 2 stars. I ordered the cheddar burger. It needed help. Better beef. Better toppings. Pretty boring. One daughter ordered the Shrimp Scampi. She said it was "dry and barely had any taste" (she's in culinary school). My other daughter had some sort of salad. She was disappointed because it had a lot of avocado that was not ripe. Some things are pretty good but they are not consistent.

I recommend valet parking and ask restaurant staff to validate. The entrance to the hotel valet service is along Ala Moana Blvd, not Hobron Lane.

That detail set the mood right away. Inside, it is definitely larger and roomier than many places we've eaten at in Japan, but it still had that warm, simple, Japanese restaurant feel. We sat at a two-person table and still had plenty of room for all of our food, which is always appreciated because nobody wants to play plate Tetris during dinner. We ordered the Wagyu and the chicken tonkatsu, and both were so good. The Wagyu was especially fun because we got to grill it ourselves at the table, making the meal feel more like an experience than just dinner. The chicken tonkatsu was crispy, juicy, and exactly what we were hoping for. I also loved that they offer refills on the cabbage and vegetables, just like in Japan. It's one of those small touches that makes the whole meal feel more authentic. The highest praise came from my preteen, who said it was the best tonkatsu he's had outside of Japan. Honestly, that is a serious review from a kid who knows his tonkatsu. Great food, fun experience, nice ambiance, and a little Japan-in-Honolulu moment. We'll definitely be back.

We picked up a half-pound of Hawaiian-style spicy poke, which was super fresh with a nice kick of heat, and it paired perfectly with the furikake wonton chips we already had. Honestly such a great snack combo. We also grabbed a sushi tempura roll and were surprised by how good it was since we saved it for the next day for an early morning snorkel sesh: it was fresh, crispy, and filled with big chunks of shrimp, easily better than what some sit-down restaurants serve. The crispy Japanese sweet potato drizzled with a bit of honey was incredibly comforting and homey, and a nice balance of sweet and savory. We also tried the chicken katsu, which had a light, crisp breading and came with fluffy white rice topped with furikake. The side potato salad was refreshing with nice, chunky pieces of potato and not overly heavy. Perfect spot to grab quality food quickly before heading out to do other day-long activities. The staff was super nice about it and was able to accommodate us, with only a small request that we be out by 8pm since there was another big party with a reservation coming in. Absolutely reasonable. They sat us right away at three large tables, which gave us plenty of space for food and didn't force us to sit super close together. Menus, waters, plates, napkins, and forks were all brought out immediately, and our waiter was quick to take our order. We started with the prix fixe menu for 8-10 guests and were going to add other items à la carte, but a handful of our group accidentally went to the other Side Street location (make sure your group is all on the same page), so what we ordered ended up being more than enough. We left stuffed and with 5 boxes of food still. Edamame was nice and steamy, and large enough to easily pop the beans out with your mouth. Wish there was a bit more salt though. The farmer's salad had everything going on from citrusy to salty to crispy. Avocado had a little bit of oxidation but the capers, dressing and potato curls provided plenty of reasons to overlook it. The fried rice came in a hefty portion, with sizable pieces of bacon and sausage. The chicken I didn't realize was boneless based on the shape of the deep fry, but it was nice to freely bite into it without worrying about hitting anything with my teeth. Probably a bit too much on fried bits but still good. Pork chops had a better meat to crisp ratio in my opinion, as well as juiciness. They even came with ketchup on the side, which I love as a pairing but don't see much of at restaurants. My favorite meat item was definitely the sizzling boneless kalbi. The presentation on the sizzling plate with a side of kimchi was spectacular, and the meat was full of flavor. We also ordered yakisoba, which wasn't part of the prix fixe. Tasted good but nothing past standard expectations. We let the waiter know we had a 30th birthday at the table, and they brought a couple scoops of vanilla ice cream with a candle, and did a decent job getting the whole room to participate in the singing. It could also be the type of crowd this place attracts, since it seemed that everyone was so friendly and approachable. Thanks to the quick and consistent service, we were out in a little over an hour with no complaints.
