Amazing breakfast at Menehune Grille in the Ilikai. I ordered Da Benny and it was outstanding. Their homemade hollandaise sauce was rich, fresh, and ono!!! The Ilikai has been known for their Eggs Benedict since the 1980s, and this breakfast definitely lived up to that reputation. Also, the omelet was fluffy and cooked to perfection with amazing flavor. Pancake was perfect, if you like fluffy. For a peaceful view of the sea, ask to sit at the bar tops facing the harbor. The service was friendly, and it felt like all hands on deck with everyone checking in to make sure everything was perfect. Easily one of the best breakfasts I have had in Waikiki. The ambiance was delightful with island music and a beautiful sunset view. The open air view of the beach and ocean was delightful. Service was mediocre. Keeping waters filled is a basic duty of waitstaff and our cups remained empty until we requested refills. The food was also delivered at different times which created the awkward "I will wait to eat until you get your food" moment. My fish burrito had all of the right textures but the flavor was a bit bland. I spiced it up with pico de gallo and sour cream from my son's nachos. They offered a 10% military discount which was appreciated. They also tacked on a 20% large party surcharge for our group of six which was not appreciated. Our check for our party of six was $217 before the discount and tip. We ordered six entrees and no drinks. The overall cost seemed a bit steep for the experience provided. read more

We were staying at the Ilikai for a staycation and naturally had to stop here to try the food. The menu is definitely on the pricey side, but it's Waikiki, so that's pretty much expected. However I did notice that the portions coming out of the kitchen were generous. We came for an early dinner. Pro tip: bring your sunglasses because the setting sun is at eye level from about 5:30pm - 7pm. We ended up ordering off the appetizer menu, which worked out perfectly because it was more than enough food for us. The poke was very good. The fish tasted fresh, and the marinade and seasoning were spot on. The baby back ribs portion was also quite generous. The ribs themselves were good, though not amazing in my opinion. They were a bit chewy and grainy and could have benefited from more time in the marinade for deeper flavor. Overall, the service was good and we enjoyed the experience. Happy eating!! 46 read more

This is one of our regular spots to visit for breakfast and we always enjoy the warm ambiance and good food! Since they're associated with a coffee farm where they get their beans directly, they make a great cup of coffee too! But it goes without saying that they also have great service. In particular, we've been lucky enough to get Marina, a fantastic server, the last couple of times we've been in. She always remembers us, is so engaging and friendly, and always makes the time to make sure we've got everything we need! Shout outs to her, she makes for a really nice experience! We went to Menehune Grille after a long day of travel as we are staying at a nearby hotel. We got seared right away and it took a few minutes for our waiter to come to our table but all the tables were full so no problem there. We had enough time to look at the menu so we ordered cocktails and our food at the same time. Our cocktails were good - nothing to rave about but we enjoyed them. Our food took so long we waited around 40 minutes after we finished our cocktails to receive the two dishes we ordered. We were told 3x by a couple different staff that our food would be out shortly, and it just wasn't. We ordered the social which was a blackened ahi ban mi. It was okay but I don't think it warranted the $35 price. The atmosphere was lovely, open air with garden and harbor views. I've been a customer of Menehune Water for over 8 years. I never had a problem with delivery service until now. Menehune Water is having problems with getting delivery drivers to take their water to their customers. Every 10 days when my water delivery is supposed to be delivered; I have to call Menehune Water because my water was not delivered. This has been going on for over 6 months and at each occurrence, I have to call Menehune Water and wait for what seems to be forever, for their customer service representatives to answer my call. They are always nice and try to remedy the situation, but ultimately, their drivers don't want to do the work. Usually, Menehune Water is able to resolve their delivery issues and have my water dropped off with a day or two. On this occasion, my water was supposed to be delivered on Tuesday and I had to call Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to see if they could deliver my water. I was promised each time that it would be delivered but it never came. This was during Lala and we needed the water just in case because we only had one bottle left! Had there been an emergency, we would have been without a water supply which we depended upon on! I understand, their delivery problems, but it does not excuse them from making their deliveries. I live in a secure condo and the drivers will find every excuse not to deliver to my unit. They ran out of water, they have problems with security? On the most recent delivery, security ran out of key fobs for the driver but offered to set the driver up to each floor, but before he could say anything, the driver left and never came back. This has happened on numerous occasions , which is why I never got my water. I finally decided to cancel my delivery service and go with an under counter reverse osmosis system similar to Menehune Water. The only difference is, the water is not cooled or heated. Who cares, all I have to do is add a little ice to my new system and it's great! I also don't need the dispenser or the additional water bottles cluttering up my condo. I'm finally free of Menehune Water and their complicated billing system. They also don't give customers a copy of their delivery service like they used to, and rely on the honor system of their drivers to insure we are credited the correct amount of returned versus delivered water. The same drivers who cannot make their deliveries on time! I cannot and will not recommend Menehune Water because of their delivery service. You cannot rely on their delivery and I have opted for a system that doesn't require Menehune Water! What a relief! read more

I was introduced to this restaurant by a friend who is a fan of the local band, Fresh Breeze Band. We didn't know the restaurant, but we were lucky to meet the owner, a local family. They were very friendly and open to our suggestions. We had a hula dancer performance with the band, which played the song requested by the restaurant's customers and welcomed the dancers as well. It was a lively atmosphere, with a mix of tourists and locals enjoying a weekend day. I ordered egg Benedict with Canadian bacon and potatoes. There were island fruits for breakfast, which I was very tempted to try, but decided to save them for the next time. My friend asked for more Hawaiian food menus to be served in the future and more of his favorite band performances. We have to wait and see about more Hawaiian dish requests, but the band is performing every other Saturday now! By the way, the Egg Benedict was yummy, and the Kauai shrimp I tasted out of my friend's omelet was meaty and scrumptious. I also feel the dishes are reasonably priced, given the location and Hawaii's cost of living. Last but not least, the server was equally friendly and attentive; even though the place was constantly busy, our glasses with water were always full without asking. Located at Ilikai Hotel. There was 8 of us in our party and the host said they don't take reservations on Friday nights because of the hula show and fireworks. After a 30 minute wait, the host decided to seat us in the dining room instead of the patio area. This was perfect because we had the whole place to ourselves. Our server, Jason, did the best he could to get what we needed despite the fact that 1) I don't think they were expecting to have us in the dining room and 2) we still had to ask more than once to get waters refilled or to get silverware. The food came simultaneously as the fireworks started so we were able to view them right by our table. Our server told us we could go out the balcony for our own private viewing! Everyone loved their food. The steaks were cooked as requested and they enjoyed it. My mom liked her shrimp. We had nachos as an appetizer and it was enough for everyone. The portions were generous. Then as a treat, our server played the piano for us. Overall, the dining experience on this evening was amazing. My daughter had the best birthday so far! Thank you crew team. They do have hotel valet services for $6 for four hours with validation. The only concern that I had for this evening was the tipping portion. I know as a patron I/we should have looked at our bill. We overlooked the part where they automatically added the tip to the bill. I'm assuming they did this since we are a bigger party. But what constitutes a big party - 6, 7, 8, etc.? Our family of 3 showed up at 8:39 pm for dinner. On the app says they close at 10 pm. When we arrived there was a sign posted saying last seating is 8:45 pm. We were relieved because we made it on time. The two greeters said the kitchen had just closed. When I pointed to the sign, one of the greeters said the chef left early. I ordered the fish and chips. The batter was delightful with a side of crispy fries. Yum! My cousin had smash burger. Nothing too impressive, but it was delicious. The warmth and fresh breeze during our meal truly gave us island vibes, even though this restaurant is inside the Ilikai Hotel. "Touristy bar food" that sums it up, food is blah and meh, nacho's with pork (assuming it's supposed to be Kalua pig/Kalua pork) was cold, reddish orange(?) with too much smoke flavoring - not good, chips were stale, gross. Burgers are ok, I think menu is targeted for the tourists with limited fresh local flavors and ingredients. We only came here because cousins were staying at the Ilikai. One redeeming fact is they have a nice view of Waikiki (only if you are seated outside). We came here late, 9:00 pm maybe that's why there was lack of service, where we had to flag down our server. We were so disappointed when we found out Cinnamons closed down as it was a staple for us when staying at the Ilikai Hotel. We were happy to learn that Menehune Grille took over the space and excited to try the food. The night before, I made a reservation online for 9 people for breakfast thinking if we tried to walk in without reservations we would be denied or we would have to wait a really long time. I had to put $20 down to secure the reservation - which is deducted from your actual bill total. When we arrived for breakfast the next day, the first thing I noticed was that the restaurant was not busy. There was no wait at all. Very different experience from years past with the other restaurant. If you eat here, the outdoor patio space is the way to go. A few birds here and there, but it's always nice when the sun is shining to enjoy a meal outdoors. The menu was okay. I was hoping to see more options for a hawaiian breakfast. The two breakfast menu items that you can't necessarily find in breakfast spots in California was the loco moco and the island style (macadamia and coconut syrup) pancakes - which were delicious. But everything else was your typical breakfast menu. When on vacation in Hawaii, you kind of expect more of Hawaiian flavors. So a little disappointing. Nonetheless, everyone was satisfied with their meals. The staff was pleasant and we felt taken care of. They even explained that gratuity was already included because of the large party. I appreciated her transparency. For breakfast for 9 people the bill was $240. Overall, we had a good experience. HOWEVER, a few days later we were exhausted from a day long beach trip so we decided we would just eat a late dinner here. We arrived more than an hour before closing. Another couple also arrived after us. Both parties waited around 7 minutes before any staff acknowledged us. Right when I was getting a little annoyed with waiting, I see a young male staff walking towards us. Instead of greeting us, he moves a standing sign that says they're "closed" right in front of us as if no one was standing there. He then turns around, goes behind the hostess podium, and finally looks directly at us, albeit with a smug face and states loudly, "We're closed. You can come back tomorrow." He was RUDE! I understand that many restaurants may close the kitchen 30 minutes to an hour before a restaurant actually closes, but we were definitely there at least 15 minutes prior to the last hour. I also wouldn't have minded being turned away as long as it was a respectful exchange, but it wasn't. There is definitely a way to communicate with patrons... basic customer service and respect was non-existent. I stay at the Ilikai every time I come back to Hawaii for their hospitality... and while I recognize that the Menehune Grille is not the Ilikai, this second experience at Menehune Grille makes me a bit hesitant to come back to the Ilikai, as I want to be able to eat on-site and be treated respectfully at any hotel I stay at. I grew up in Oahu. I'm not a tourist. I expected a whole lot better from people that should understand the basics of hospitality and customer service. I would give the breakfast experience a 4, but the dinner experience was awful so unfortunately I'm giving it a solid overall 1 star. read more

If you're a breakfast place, eggs should be a basic skill. Unfortunately, that's not the case here. I ordered scrambled eggs, soft, and instead received something resembling an overcooked egg pancake. How does this even leave the kitchen? This was my second attempt at ordering eggs here. The first time, my plate arrived buried under so much pepper it was completely black. They apologized, saying it was intended for another table, took it back, and then returned with the overcooked eggs. I didn't have time to try a third time. I miss Cinnamon's. The quality here is disappointing, and I won't be returning. With Cinnamon's and Pesca's gone, we're running out of good breakfast options on this side of Waikiki. read more

I had two meals here while staying at the Ilikai. The first was dinner with family and I had the pineapple chicken served in a pineapple. It was okay but would have loved some cut up pineapple within the dish that had a lot of rice and lacked flavor except when you got some pineapple flavor off the cut out pineapple. However the chicken was cooked nicely and tasted good. There was music which was very loud so hard to hear those at our table. The other meal I had was lunch where I had the Kailua pork sandwich that came with fries and was quite good. The fries were crisp and the toppings were tasty. I did enjoy that meal. read more

My firm held a networking event at Menehune Grille a few weeks ago, and it was one of the best experience I've had in hosting these types of events. Stori, the manager, was so easy to work with - she answered my endless questions, navigated a 6 hour time difference while planning, and made me comfortable in booking a space without having seen it. Her kindness and helpfulness was even more apparent when I met her in person the day of the event. She was so attentive (she even carried in a shave ice machine for me!) and made sure everything ran smoothly throughout the event. The bartenders for our event, Casey and Dwite, were excellent as well. They were friendly, efficient, and upbeat, and I heard so many compliments about their service throughout the evening. They even manned the shave ice machine for me, after having it sprung on them last minute! Though the service was the standout, the ambiance was a hit as well. The sunset over the Honolulu Harbor was beautiful! The food was also delicious and Stori made sure (in planning) that we had good options for all preferences. I'm still receiving compliments about our event from potential clients and my colleagues. Menehune recently remodeled, and this space used to be Cinnamons. The atmosphere is definitely more modern now. Before, it felt like an older retired crowd, and now it's mostly younger staff and a fresher look. Even with the update though, the food itself still feels very basic. They no longer offer prime rib, so I went with the steak and eggs. It was almost forty dollars and just okay. For that price point, I expected more flavor and better sides. The menu also felt really limited, especially compared to Guieb which is only about ten minutes away and has way more variety. This place used to have a classic Hawaiian style breakfast vibe, but now it's more of a simple American style breakfast. Nothing terrible, just very plain. Overall, I wouldn't rush back. read more

This is a review for the lunch. I was hoping this place would be better than the last tenant, Cinnamon's. However, it unfortunately ended up being mediocre, just like Cinnamon's. We had Mai Tais first and they were okay. We didn't care for the coconut rum in it. The next up, the Plantation Iced Tea cocktail was too bitter and too much citrus taste for our liking. Wings were the best food I had at this restaurant. The sweet chili sauce was sweet but spicy, as it was supposed to be. Loco Moco was like pre-made frozen beef patties and canned gravy. That might not be the case, but that was how they tasted like. Fish and Chips' fish had too much batter and the actual fish inside was very tiny. Also the tartar sauce wasn't very good.
