    Diavola Roman Style
    Janrose S.

Delicious pizza! We tried the Diavola Roman Pizza and the Margherita Neapolitan Pizza. I preferred the flavor and texture of the Roman pizza (reminded me of a Detroit style pizza) while my date preferred the Neapolitan pizza. One thing to note is that the spicy soppressata salami on the Diavola was quite strong in terms of pork flavor - I think it paired well with the rest of the dish, especially the red peppers, though. Service was alright. When we walked in we were asked if we wanted a wine menu (we said no, thank you), were seated promptly, and were given our choice of water (we went for filtered tap) and were given a bottle for us to refill our glasses ourselves throughout the meal. After we got our food our server was gone for a while, and an unhoused individual came inside and started harassing customers - at first he asked for water, then after getting a glass kept asking for customers' wine. There was only one employee to deal with him until a customer told him he'd buy him a soda if he'd leave the establishment, and it was only after he left that our server came back out to check on us.

Amazing pizza, pasta, bread, desserts, ambience, service (thanks Jennifer) makes this worthy of five stars! The Napoleon style pizzas were fantastic because they made the dough fresh everyday! We had the Burrata and the Salsiccia! The Buratta was mellow and light while the Salsiccia was robust and flavorful! The Caprese salad was so good. The mozzarella was perfect and smooth. It was one of the best ones I've ever had. The focaccia bread was so chewy and hot. The lemon cake was one of the. It was one of the best desserts I've ever had. It was like a pound cake with the most delicious light frosting. So worth it!! Can't wait to come back here!

Lucky to have found this awesome pizza place near Capitol Hill. This really sums up the meal from their website: "bring authentic Neapolitan pizza to life. Every dish is crafted with passion, using the freshest ingredients and traditional wood-fired techniques straight from Naples, Italy. Whether you're visiting for a quick bite or a leisurely meal, our cozy atmosphere and flavorful creations will make you feel right at home." Usually marketing and reality dont match, but in this case, they were perfectly aligned, and I did not have to go to Italy, plus the staff made us feel as if we had traveled to Naples.

White base pizza with sausage and pepperoni. Simple but delicious

Great authentic Italian restaurant. Small but efficient. I love the minimalist Italian decor. Food is reasonable, customizable and delicious. They have two different styles of pizza. Thin round crust and the thicker dough that resembles a deep dish. The quarter size will def get you full with plenty to take home. Sauce tastes fresh and they make everything close with an open kitchen and pizza frystone area.

We love it here! We've tried several of their pizzas and love all of them, and I love their bruschetta! It's nice and clean inside with an attached little market.

Wow! What a hidden gem. Wasn't expecting to love this place as much as I did, but the pizza was amazing! Extra points for having gluten-free options as well. Service was super quick and overall it was a great environment. Will definitely be back soon!

PHENOMENAL!!! I am a HUGE pizza lover but I have never been able to find THE BEST PIZZA, until our most recent trip to DC we just happened to be staying close by and my husband chose Menomale and holy smokes! This pizza is HEAVENLY!

Fusilli - 3 stars. Pretty average, pasta quite soft, sauce a little runny, but my kids enjoyed it. Fri dinner 2024-04-12

A decent Italian spot for lunch; we came because they had room for 17 of us, reserved a few weeks in advance. $462 total for dinner for 8 adults and 9 kids, including a few drinks and desserts. * Bruschette Bufala ($12) - 2 stars Nothing special - the bread was a little stale, the tomato not the most ripe. The arugula did not stay on the bread. Like something you might whip up in your kitchen with average Safeway ingredients. * Stuffed Gnocchi ($21) - 3 stars This is the most spherical gnocchi I've ever had. Not very soft. * Fusilli - 3 stars Pretty average, pasta quite soft, sauce a little runny, but my kids enjoyed it. * Prosciutto Cotto (Ham) Pizza Napoletana ($17) - 3 stars I suppose the "ham" should have given it away, but just note the topping is not prosciutto, but really just slides of ham, maybe even cold cut ham. The crust had a crunch but the inside was not as soft and stretchy as many pizza napoletanas I've had out there. * Diavola (spicy) ($18) - 3 stars I didn't even realize this was supposed to have spicy salami, I didn't taste it at all. Again just ok, and the red pepper pieces were very small. * PIZZA IN TEGLIA ALLA ROMANA Salsiccia This was decent. A thicker crust than the napoletana style. The meat was not very evenly distributed, so some slices had a ton of meat and others barely any. * La Bomba ($8) - 3 stars Pretty much what you'd expect for nutella-filled pizza crust! You do get a couple pieces. * Tiramisu ($9) - 3 stars Fine, a little small (a single serving cake that comes in a plastic cup).

    Margherita Pizza ($16)

Very delicious Neapolitan-style pizza! In my opinion, there are only two places for pizza in NoMa - Andy's and Menomale. Both amazing, but different styles. If you are looking for something smaller and quicker, try Menomale. If you have a large party to feed, get Andy's.

Lemon cake, solid 8/10. Moist and light.

Great pizzas, tried the 2 types and seriously we all loved them both. The tiramisu And lemon cake amazing! The tiramisu may be one of the best I have tried.

We decided to come to this location since we have visited the other location. I have to say, I felt more comfortable at the other location. The pizza (margarita with pepperoni) and the chocolate truffle dessert were delicious. But my lemon cake was dry. It almost felt like it needed some sort of sauce. The service was great. This location is way bigger than the other. And next door they have a little Italian grocery shop.

    Pizza Montanara - Fried pizza!

The only place in the area that serves pizza montanara! A Naples staple for which we have been searching high and low. The Margherita pizza was excellent as well. Quick, efficient, friendly, it was a great visit. Looking forward to sitting in next time.

If you are looking for good Neapolitan pizza, go here. The experience was great. The staff is friendly, the ambiance reminds of a classic modern Italian pizzeria, and the pizza is really good, you can tell ingredients are fresh and they know what they are doing. If you are seriously into pizza and familiar with traditional Italian pizza recipes, this place is worth a try, it's probably one of my top 3 pizza places in DC now. This particular location has a gas oven though, that being said, it's one of the best gas oven pizza I've tried in general, I've had gas oven pizzas in Italy that were not as good as this one. There was a little inconsistency in flavor, which can happen and it might even be a good sign of freshness --my wife's pizza was more flavorful than mine even though we ordered the same kind of pizza; and sauce acidity was a little too high over all. Dough was really good and I love that they put enough olive oil on top, step that a lot of pizzerias ofter neglect. Overall Menomale is a very good pizzeria, go, try it.

I wasn't anticipating a nice dining room to dine in, but there it was so we did. Although it was uncomfortably warm in there. Must have been something wrong with their A/C because they couldn't possibly always have it so warm, especially in the middle of summer. I ordered The Clevelander and she had The Mel. And of course we hit their awesome pickle bar! Why doesn't every deli in the universe have a pickle bar?! The sandwiches are piled high with meat and so delicious. Several complaints about mine, however: the menu said it comes with mayo and provolone. It came out with no spread at all so I was brought mayo packets to apply myself, which is way less than ideal with a huge already assembled sandwich. And the brand new server (on her second day there) came back after we ordered and asked if I wanted cheese. I mentioned I thought it listed a cheese on the menu, which she confirmed. But then I ended up getting charged extra for the cheese that my sandwich was supposed to come with. Kind of lame. And while my friend was asked if she wanted hers toasted, I was not. I didn't think twice about it until mine came out toasted, which I neither asked for or wanted. Lastly, the sandwich was also supposed to come with "fresh cranberry spread" and if there was any on my sandwich, it wasn't detectable. But I decided not to even mention it because I didn't want to deconstruct my sandwich a second time. Regardless of these hiccups, I would certainly consider returning.

I heard good things about their sandwiches. My go to is normally Mangialardo's on Pennsylvania Ave in SE DC or Carl's Subbs on Rhode Island Ave in NE DC. I think I will stick to both of them next time. The staff was very friendly and helpful to me as a first timer but the sandwich was totally disapointing! NOT worth it, at all. I ordered a 9 inch capicola, ham, and cheese sub on the hard roll. The roll was very good and fresh but I couldn't taste the cheese or meat in the sandwich because there wasn't enough of it. I tasted the bread, the toppings of lettuce, tomato and onions. I decided to deconstruct the sandwich and found exactly 4 very thinly sliced pieces of meat and 2 very thinly sliced pieces of cheese as pictured clearly in the photographs. I also noticed that the they have different prices for the same type of meats. For example, they have a $29.99 per pound Capicola and one for $9.99 a pound. I asked which went on the sandwich and of course it was the cheaper one. That wasn't surprising and getting my sandwich back to the office. I decided not to eat the rest of the meatless sandwich and just take the loss. I wouldn't come back nor would I recommend a friend to try it

Hi everyone, just wanted to leave a review of German Gourmet on Columbia Pike…read more Before I begin, I want to identify what the ingredients are for a classic Reuben. You'll need two slices of seeded or marble rye bread, about six ounces of thinly sliced corned beef or pastrami, two slices of sharp Swiss cheese, roughly a quarter cup of well-drained sauerkraut, and two tablespoons of Russian or Thousand Island dressing. A little butter for toasting the bread and optional spicy brown mustard round it out. That said, what I actually received was the absolute worst Reuben I've ever had in my entire life. They used ham instead of corned beef or pastrami, an insult to the name. The Swiss was bland and low-quality, not sharp at all. There was no mustard, barely any Thousand Island, and I couldn't even detect any sauerkraut. The bread wasn't toasted, and they still charged me $12.50 with tax. If this is what passes for a Reuben at a supposed German delicatessen, save your money and go somewhere that actually knows what they're doing.
