    Caprese sandwich
    Indiasky B.

We came out famished from The Howard Theatre. This place was opened late and it hit the spot!! Ordered a Caprese sandwich, and a tuna sandwich. Both were done on Italian bread with sesame seeds (love). Ingredients were fresh and well filled. The tuna salad had mayo, celery, onions, lettuce and tomatoes. It had cheese which I don't care for but I was so hungry I didn't mind it. Was curious about the speakeasy doorway but too tired to venture in, next time! There were a lot of delivery drivers picking up orders so it took a while for me to place my order. Wish they'd have a separate order area apart from pickup. I wanted to eat there but it was way too chaotic with security, delivery drivers and people coming in and out of speakeasy door. We took the sandwiches to our car ate them while listening to music and enjoying the hell outta em samiches!!!

    Italian sub

After an appointment, I took the opportunity to grab lunch before heading back from to work. As soon as you enter the door there is a step to your right. It's counter service, take out only. The menu is on the wall is digital board & small print. QR Code menu Since I didnt have much time I picked a most typical Italian sammie - Italian sub #2. Took short time to get it, it smelled great but I expected it to be a little bigger for the price but I guess that's typical these days. Once I opened that iconic white deli paper, I experienced the Italian sub of my childhood. The only thing that was a surprise was the spicy slice which was kinda fire. I could only eat half of the sub but it was so good I really wanted to finish it.

This place fell way off I was fooled by social media and ordered their Thanksgiving sub... false advertising. Did not look like the video - all bread and extremely SKIMPY. The worst part is they charged me nearly $20 for that abomination. What a rip off. I thought they were decent pre-covid, but apparently they just don't seem to care anymore. Other places make loaded sandwiches... save your money!!

    Chicken Cheesesteak Sub - large

I live ~10 min drive north from this location. This is my second time coming for a private event and both times I've come, I've said out loud, "I should order takeout from them once a week!!" They operate a deli counter in the front and a bar / speakeasy in the back. You can rent out the bar space for private events. Last night, we had the space (and a bartender!) to ourselves, along with 3-4 different types of sandwiches. There is something SPECIAL about their seeded Italian bread. The perfect flakiness and texture. I enjoyed the chicken fontina and Italian. The caprese was my least favorite--not sure if they use a balsamic or what, but the flavor wasn't coming through. Before I left, I decided to order a large chicken cheesesteak to take home for lunch the next day. It was a bit of a risk to order a hot sandwich that I would have in the fridge overnight but I heated it up in our air fryer/toaster oven for all of 10 mins and the bread was good (not soggy) and the sandwich itself was delicious. I enjoyed it so much, I didn't stop to take a photo until the last bite :) It's a decent size sandwich--I ate half for lunch (along with my own chips and veggies) and have another half for tomorrow so while it's not cheap, I think it's reasonable.

Ordered via DoorDash and it's everything you want from a legit local Italian deli. They don't skimp and take their sandwiches seriously. Everything was customizable, bread was fresh even at night, and it's just a phenomenal deli. I got the tuna salad- perfectly blended- not too many fillers and not watery. I also got the cheesesteak and added banana peppers, removing the marinara and onions. Definitely hit the spot! A little pricy but I'd recommend for quality and taste!

    Meatball Sub

We had the meatball and it was delicious, I split the 11 inch with my wife. I barely finished my 1/2 she had to take some of hers to go. My girls really liked the baked ziti

Honestly such a great sandwich the seeded role was AMAZING. They do a buy one get one deal often with delivery. Will def get again

    Chicken Fontina Sub- Small

Capo does not disappoint!! Best cheesesteak you can get in DC (still doesn't compare to Philly) and their chicken fontina is in my opinion the best sub on the menu. Still great reheating on day 2! P.S. please ignore the not-so-aesthetic pics that were taken as we were eating on the side of the road. Couldn't wait until we got home!

    Buffalo Chicken Cheesesteak Sub- Large
    Don B.

Got take out from Capo's and was impressed. I got the Buffalo Chicken Cheesesteak and it was delicious. I got American and pepper jack cheese, pickles, lettuce, tomato, basil aioli (would taste good on a boot) all on a seeded Italian roll. The flavor was all there. Probably one of the best tasting chicken cheesesteaks I've had. I will be back to try the chicken alla vodka and maybe a few other items on their menu. Definitely worth a try.

Maybe it was just me. For others who have visited this place were you curious as to why there was a guy always sitting in front of the freezer and why people were going in it? Well I found out after I left that the "freezer door" to the left is the entrance to a speakeasy. Ok on the review. There is room if you choose the option to sit and eat but not much room. This place seems to be more of a grab and go and many know exactly what they came in here. When it comes to trying out a new deli I usually go with a reuben or Italian and I went with the latter. Hey it is an Italian deli so no surprise of no reuben. There are plenty of selections but seeing I was doing a grab and I go I went my choice with no lettuce or tomato to keep it from getting soggy. When I finally bit into it the bread had a nice crunch but nothing that will be scraping the roof of your mouth. Kind of reminds me of French bread with it being soft on the inside but a nice foundation surrounding it. The flavors came together pretty good and the dressing, which can be bought there, had a nice tangy taste. This was something different and in a good way. Many places have their own version of the Italian where some might include one particular meat while others do not. I see myself coming back here again to try some of their other items. There are options for Italian dishes such as chicken parm, lasagna, ziti, and such to try. I will be leading to the chicken parm next time

I don't see a single salad review on this page so let me pave the way - yes, capo deli is not just a speakeasy....its a sandwich shop too. they have a broad menu of speciality options and make your own possibilities - this location, not the foggy bottom spot, has a make your own salad. you can tell this a deli because they know how to load on salad toppings. the banana pepper ratio was to die for. I don't want just a bowl of leaves - the meat portion was large as well! however, it is a sandwich spot, meaning the meat wasn't really meant for a salad. the turkey very plasticy in texture and super stuck together. I would definitely skip this, hard to think that was not made in a lab - the chicken was very bland and dry but the portion blew places like sweetgreen out of the water

"Caprese" sandwich that looks NOTHING like the pics on the website. Flavorless and totally disappointing.

Do we need reservations to get into the back room?

Not that I know of, obviously though check as Covid protocols change so often.

I read a comment a while ago how they are "stingy" with their Tuna Fish. Plus a friend of mind got a Tuna Fish sub and experience the same thing. Seems like a lot of money for a lettuces, tomato sub yet they get four stars, strange?

You don't buy tuna salad at an Italian deli.

Ordering online is relatively easy and every time I've done it my salad(s) have been ready when I arrive. I like the variety of toppings and options they offer. I do wish I could switch out one type of protein for another without being charged (for example, I'd rather have grilled chicken on the Asian chicken salad over the breaded chicken) and I wish the salad dressings were slightly bolder, but overall the salads are tasty and fresh. The service has also been fantastic every time I've gone. Most recently, the online ordering platform was glitching a bit and I accidentally ordered two of the same salad instead of two different ones. I went to pick it up, and the employee did ask to confirm I wanted 2 of the exact same things. When we realized what happened, he made my husbands salad and let me keep both of mine. I offered to pay for his salad since it was my error, but they were gracious and let me take all 3 salads for the price of 2. I really appreciated how well the employee handled the situation - he could told me "too bad so sad" or grumbled when I asked to fix it, but he didn't. He solved the problem with a smile on his face. I'll definitely keep coming here. I love a good salad and the service makes it even better.

The sandwich I got on my first visit was really good and exactly what I was hoping for. I ended up going back a few days later and ordered the chicken parm, thinking it would be another sandwich. It actually came as a salad instead. On the in-store menu it looked like it was listed under sandwiches, so I'm not sure if it was user error or just a menu layout issue, but it's something to double check when ordering. That said, the chicken parm itself was still good, I just wasn't expecting it on a salad. Overall, the food quality is there, just make sure you're ordering exactly what you want. Also, they're on InKind, so definitely take advantage of that if you use it. Don't feel forced to order from the kiosk, you do have the option to order from the front.

Cilantro and lemon aioli on a club? I would have never thought of that combination, but it works. Between those flavors and the high quality bacon they use, every bite hit exactly how it needed to. Truly impressive. I ordered through the kiosk, so I can't really comment much on customer service. They just called my name when it was ready, and everything ran smoothly, so no issues there.
