    Chicken Fontina Sub- Small

Capo does not disappoint!! Best cheesesteak you can get in DC (still doesn't compare to Philly) and their chicken fontina is in my opinion the best sub on the menu. Still great reheating on day 2! P.S. please ignore the not-so-aesthetic pics that were taken as we were eating on the side of the road. Couldn't wait until we got home!

Got take out from Capo's and was impressed. I got the Buffalo Chicken Cheesesteak and it was delicious. I got American and pepper jack cheese, pickles, lettuce, tomato, basil aioli (would taste good on a boot) all on a seeded Italian roll. The flavor was all there. Probably one of the best tasting chicken cheesesteaks I've had. I will be back to try the chicken alla vodka and maybe a few other items on their menu. Definitely worth a try.

Maybe it was just me. For others who have visited this place were you curious as to why there was a guy always sitting in front of the freezer and why people were going in it? Well I found out after I left that the "freezer door" to the left is the entrance to a speakeasy. Ok on the review. There is room if you choose the option to sit and eat but not much room. This place seems to be more of a grab and go and many know exactly what they came in here. When it comes to trying out a new deli I usually go with a reuben or Italian and I went with the latter. Hey it is an Italian deli so no surprise of no reuben. There are plenty of selections but seeing I was doing a grab and I go I went my choice with no lettuce or tomato to keep it from getting soggy. When I finally bit into it the bread had a nice crunch but nothing that will be scraping the roof of your mouth. Kind of reminds me of French bread with it being soft on the inside but a nice foundation surrounding it. The flavors came together pretty good and the dressing, which can be bought there, had a nice tangy taste. This was something different and in a good way. Many places have their own version of the Italian where some might include one particular meat while others do not. I see myself coming back here again to try some of their other items. There are options for Italian dishes such as chicken parm, lasagna, ziti, and such to try. I will be leading to the chicken parm next time

I don't see a single salad review on this page so let me pave the way - yes, capo deli is not just a speakeasy....its a sandwich shop too. they have a broad menu of speciality options and make your own possibilities - this location, not the foggy bottom spot, has a make your own salad. you can tell this a deli because they know how to load on salad toppings. the banana pepper ratio was to die for. I don't want just a bowl of leaves - the meat portion was large as well! however, it is a sandwich spot, meaning the meat wasn't really meant for a salad. the turkey very plasticy in texture and super stuck together. I would definitely skip this, hard to think that was not made in a lab - the chicken was very bland and dry but the portion blew places like sweetgreen out of the water

"Caprese" sandwich that looks NOTHING like the pics on the website. Flavorless and totally disappointing.

I ordered a Sm Caprese sandwich. I received tomato and mozzarella with 3 stands of basil and no balsamic to speak of. I had to add my own basil and balsamic glaze, just to make it worth eating. So disappointing, given that I order the turkey and cheese almost daily and i love it (which is the only reason for the second star). This was a complete waste of money. Capo owes me a free sandwich or a full refulnd.

Interior, and the door to the backroom speakeasy.

It's a pretty standard Deli but really only good for takeout since it is small and the seating area is really only serviceable as a waiting areas. I got a to-go of their "Capo's special." it was very, very good and DID NOT skimp on the meat! Totally worth the price and the flavors were on point. It wasn't in the best part of town and we did have a person with mental illness shout a lot of every kind of slur at us on our walk from the Metro. I don't hold this against the Deli, so do with that what you will. I give a minus on service because the girl I was ordering from did not know even the basics of the menu or what came on a given sub. The backroom is really neat and I did a separate review on that.

The back room at around 10:30pm on a Saturday night.

As I mentioned in my first review of Capo this past winter, I work pretty close and used to grab a sandwich from here every once in a while, but stopped coming after my incident in the speakeasy. A few days ago, I was craving a sandwich so I popped over to grab a chicken cheesesteak. I don't eat red meat, so I made sure to not to the team member taking my order that I wanted chicken. She was super friendly and my order was ready within 10 minutes. I walked back to my off only to discover I was given a beef cheesesteak, which was a disappointment. I called, talked to the manager and asked for my order to be corrected and delivered. Within 15 minutes, Patrick the manager was in front of my office building with my order. He hand delivered my order and let me keep the beef sandwich, which I gave away. That's top tier customer service!

Do we need reservations to get into the back room?

Not that I know of, obviously though check as Covid protocols change so often.

I read a comment a while ago how they are "stingy" with their Tuna Fish. Plus a friend of mind got a Tuna Fish sub and experience the same thing. Seems like a lot of money for a lettuces, tomato sub yet they get four stars, strange?

You don't buy tuna salad at an Italian deli.

Found it to be a bit louder than I would've liked but I think it was because of the spacing between tables. Came toward the end of the night and got seated and welcomed right away. I ordered the polpette, meatballs to start. They were quite tasty, but the sauce was a bit watery. Think that's just because the meatballs themselves were pretty juicy. Heard the focaccia was a hit, so asked for some of that. I was told they didn't have any left. Which was weird, because then another server came and asked if I wanted bread. I'm glad I said yes because the focaccia is very fresh and was a great addition to the meal. For my main, I ordered the vodka pasta, which was very flavorful and very saucy. I love a good, thick vodka sauce and that's what you'll get here. The one part of the pasta I didn't really enjoy was the chicken inside the pasta. I think I would've preferred a grilled chicken option instead of the chicken that comes in the pasta. That being said, this place is a gem. The prices are great and the portions are hearty. The pasta is thick, you're really coming here for fresh noodles and ingredients. If you want to top your meal off just right, you'll get the chocolate lava cake. Very delicious!
