My family ordered subs from here on a whim, through DoorDash, while we were visiting DC, and everyone loved them so much that we ordered from them two more times during our trip! The roast turkey subs were huge- with thinly shaved turkey packed in so full- and my kids ate every last bite. I ordered "The Italian" as it was the special, and it was so delicious! It has their homemade Italian dressing, salami, hot capicola, and provolone. I re-ordered it again! My mom also ordered several desserts: house made cannolis, banana bread pudding, oreo cookie mousse, tiramisu, and chocolate mousse cake. Everything was wonderful! It had cheese which I don't care for but I was so hungry I didn't mind it. Was curious about the speakeasy doorway but too tired to venture in, next time! After an appointment, I took the opportunity to grab lunch before heading back from to work. As soon as you enter the door there is a step to your right. It's counter service, take out only. The menu is on the wall is digital board & small print. QR Code menu Since I didnt have much time I picked a most typical Italian sammie - Italian sub #2. Took short time to get it, it smelled great but I expected it to be a little bigger for the price but I guess that's typical these days. They operate a deli counter in the front and a bar / speakeasy in the back. You can rent out the bar space for private events. Last night, we had the space (and a bartender!) to ourselves, along with 3-4 different types of sandwiches. There is something SPECIAL about their seeded Italian bread. The perfect flakiness and texture. I enjoyed the chicken fontina and Italian. The caprese was my least favorite--not sure if they use a balsamic or what, but the flavor wasn't coming through. Before I left, I decided to order a large chicken cheesesteak to take home for lunch the next day. It was a bit of a risk to order a hot sandwich that I would have in the fridge overnight but I heated it up in our air fryer/toaster oven for all of 10 mins and the bread was good (not soggy) and the sandwich itself was delicious. I enjoyed it so much, I didn't stop to take a photo until the last bite :) It's a decent size sandwich--I ate half for lunch (along with my own chips and veggies) and have another half for tomorrow so while it's not cheap, I think it's reasonable. read more

This place seems to be more of a grab and go and many know exactly what they came in here. When it comes to trying out a new deli I usually go with a reuben or Italian and I went with the latter. Hey it is an Italian deli so no surprise of no reuben. There are plenty of selections but seeing I was doing a grab and I go I went my choice with no lettuce or tomato to keep it from getting soggy. When I finally bit into it the bread had a nice crunch but nothing that will be scraping the roof of your mouth. Kind of reminds me of French bread with it being soft on the inside but a nice foundation surrounding it. The flavors came together pretty good and the dressing, which can be bought there, had a nice tangy taste. This was something different and in a good way. Many places have their own version of the Italian where some might include one particular meat while others do not. I see myself coming back here again to try some of their other items. There are options for Italian dishes such as chicken parm, lasagna, ziti, and such to try. I will be leading to the chicken parm next time read more

My coworkers and I visit Capo Deli on Florida Avenue NW almost weekly and generally enjoy the food and service. Typically, when the smaller gentleman takes my order, everything is prepared correctly. Unfortunately, this is the second occasion where my order was incorrect when taken by another employee. I ordered a California cheesesteak with pickles and a chicken cheesesteak with hot peppers, along with pickles and hot peppers on the side. Upon returning to the office, I discovered the hot peppers had been added to the California cheesesteak, there was very little mayo, and neither sandwich included cheese. In addition, the sandwich was barely cut, and when I picked it up to eat, it immediately fell apart. Given that the sandwiches are approximately $20 each, I would expect greater attention to quality and order accuracy. As a regular customer, this experience was disappointing. read more

I haven't been here in person, so I can't speak to that experience, but I've recently ordered via Uber Eats a few times and its quickly become a favorite delivery spot for me. So far, I have had their Italian and meatball sub, their Capo cheesesteak, the banana bread pudding, and the brownie. Their large subs are huge and could easily be two meals or split between two people. The cold cuts and toppings on the Italian were fresh and delicious. I could have used a bit more Italian dressing, but that is personal preference. The cheesesteak was really good and had plenty of meat on it, but I think they either gave me the original cheesesteak instead OR just didn't put much marinara on it. Still delicious and it arrived hot and cheesy, but I couldn't taste or see the sauce. The meatball sub was my favorite, though. Possibly the best meatball sub that I have had. The meatballs were tender and super seasoned/flavorful. This one had a good amount of marinara on it. And they were generous with the cheese, as well. For the subs, I've gotten the seeded Italian a couple times, which was really good, but I recently tried their Philly roll instead and I thought that was even better. Both desserts I tried were also tasty! The brownie was super fudgy and yummy, and the banana bread pudding was really good - perfect amount of bananas and had chocolate chips in it. My food was also done and arrived super quickly. Overall, this is now my go-to sub spot. My only complaint is that I wish some of their subs had more sauce/dressing, but thats pretty minor. read more

As I mentioned in my first review of Capo this past winter, I work pretty close and used to grab a sandwich from here every once in a while, but stopped coming after my incident in the speakeasy. A few days ago, I was craving a sandwich so I popped over to grab a chicken cheesesteak. I don't eat red meat, so I made sure to not to the team member taking my order that I wanted chicken. She was super friendly and my order was ready within 10 minutes. I walked back to my off only to discover I was given a beef cheesesteak, which was a disappointment. I called, talked to the manager and asked for my order to be corrected and delivered. Within 15 minutes, Patrick the manager was in front of my office building with my order. It's a pretty standard Deli but really only good for takeout since it is small and the seating area is really only serviceable as a waiting areas. I got a to-go of their "Capo's special." it was very, very good and DID NOT skimp on the meat! Totally worth the price and the flavors were on point. It wasn't in the best part of town and we did have a person with mental illness shout a lot of every kind of slur at us on our walk from the Metro. I don't hold this against the Deli, so do with that what you will. I give a minus on service because the girl I was ordering from did not know even the basics of the menu or what came on a given sub. Great food but trouble with delivering the sammie. I ordered through DoorDash because I was working in our hotel room while hubs was at a job site. I had clients back to back so I wanted to order lunch and have it left at my hotel room door, contactless. Long story short, the delivery person screwed me, left my sandwich on a random table in the middle of the lobby. Great. I had to be late for my client due to taking 10 minutes to get downstairs to hopefully retrieve the food. When I finally was able to eat, OMG!!! I was so happy because this hero was very similar to the deli I was not able to visit when I was home for Christmas. I honestly could have devoured the entire hero but saved the other half for hubs.
