Working with NV Waterproofing was a disappointment from start to finish, and I wish I'd trusted my instinct multiple times throughout the process when the red flags popped up. The initial sales person was a classic over-seller and promised the world while simultaneously doing a very surface-level review of the situation, ultimately concluding that we were in need of an indoor water mitigation system and sump pump. The sales process was tortured, over-the-top, and ended with the classic "same-day-only discount" proposal (red flag number 1). The scheduling process and lead-up to the project was radio-silent with no preparation on what to do or what to expect from the project manager or the sales person until I reached out proactively. I had to call the morning the project was set to begin to even know if they were coming or not (red flag number 2). The project itself eventually began and within less than an hour it became obvious the source of the leak was in fact a burst pipe and not ground water coming in through the basement. I called the office and put a stop order on the work at which point they immediately became very cagey about what options were available to me and from this point on once again went radio silent (red flag number 3). Upon reaching out to the office multiple times (via both email and phone) to address the issue and seek at least a partial refund of our deposit for the issue, they took 3+ days to even respond, and when they did, claimed that despite obvious pictures pointing to the pipe being the issue, it could have been ground water at the same time and they were unable to provide any refund of any kind (red flag number 4). I get that I signed a contract. I get that they planned and scheduled the work. I also now have learned an expensive lesson about trusting my gut and being more proactive about my concerns. But they're supposed to be the experts! And the fact that they took absolutely no responsibility for having done a poor assessment of the situation up-front and then pretended like they were actually still right about it was disappointing and embarrassing. I can't in good faith recommend working with this company to anyone. read more

I needed cement work and the sales rep sold me on a procedure that they perform that foam gets shot under your existing cement. My fault that I didn't read the contract that states, if any damage is done to my property they take no responsibility for it, at all. I also didn't see any pictures of this work that they performed on another customer. Over $7000 later, I have a large crack in my porch, the spaces in my sidewalk are uneven, there is a hole that wasn't filled, and now my pavement is uneven. The project manager and the owner came to inspect the work that I complained about and they ended up justifying all of it. I asked for at least $1000 off and he gave me $250 off. Let me not leave out that I have 2 ghetto looking cement patches that look absolutely terrible on my porch and the technician that did the work left my flower bed in shambles for 4 weeks. I settled for the pennies off and asked that they come to fill the dime sized hole that was supposed to be filled at the time the work was done. The owner had the audacity to tell me that they will come and fill the dime sized hole that should've been filled, if I promptly take down my negative review on Google. My driveway, sidewalk and porch look like I don't care about the appearance of my home. It's a terrible look. Eventually, I'm going to have to get all of the cement busted up and done over. I am being waaaaay overcharged for patch work that looks like a mess. My fault for not reading my contact and not seeing at least 3-5 pictures of their cement work. I needed new cement not a repair job. It's like breaking a glass and putting it back together with glue. I am so disappointed with the salesman, the technician, the Manager and the owner. Highly unprofessional workers and salesman oversold and underdelivered. First, the crew did not show up on the scheduled day and weren't courteous enough to inform me of any delays or changes. I had to call Brian (salesman) late in the day to find out why they didn't show up. Brian apologized and said the "demo" team was not available and that he was going to do most of the demo himself, but was not able to make it that day. Rescheduled for a week later. The crew and Brian showed up only to let me know that it would be more work than anticipated and suggested nixing the braces for the anchors. So we did for the same price and much less tearing down. Rescheduled for another week. No real demo was performed only cut out holes for the anchors apparently to save me money, but ended up damaging all of the drywall so now I have to demo the entire wall on my own. I mean seriously, I can't use the old studs because they are now loose from them cutting them. The crew left behind all the trash, a saw-saw, and what appeared to be a urine bottle at first glance (wasn't going to sniff to find out), but ended up being "fabuloso"; damaged part of the adjacent wall; broke my shovel; damaged the gutter's elbow; and finally, clipped the driveway fence knocking down a part of it. Roberto (site manager, I believe) apologized, and amended everything except the fence for which he scheduled a repair for the following week and assured me another contractor would make the repairs. However, NV waterproofing showed up! And to maintain the tone of their business, the fence was tack welded crooked. Yes, tack welded and not spot welded. To finish it off, Bryan (not the salesman) requested help getting the power generator back into their truck because only one person from NV waterproofing was sent to make the fence repairs. I did not call back to have them properly repair the fence cause I am afraid something else will go wrong. This is by far the worst experience ever at a premium price. On the bright side, the Helpdesk was quite professional handling my situation. No complaints there, only praises. In fact, everyone was polite and apologetic. We wanted the basic repairs done (since we'll be moving in a year), but 4 hours later, there was this very involved project plan (including tearing apart a bathroom - without a rebuild, and tearing down shelving - again, without a rebuild) all to the tune of $33000. There were other plans but we had to walk through every plan before we finally(!!!) got to what we wanted. I understand it's sales, but he didn't listen to what we asked for, and a 4 hour appointment is just way too long. Also, after proposing all of the suggestions, if we booked that night, we could get a 10% discount. By that time it was 8 pm. We were not left with a good feeling that you were the company to go with. Also, a $2500 waterproofing permit fee charged by you is unacceptable when Fairfax City only charges $500 maximum. It's not that much work to upcharge by 500%. The same for the electrical permit (charging $700 for a $190 Fairfax city fee). Again, I understand sales, but listen to your customers and what they want so you don't waste everyone's time (we definitely felt like we were dealing with a used car salesman). read more

VERY disappointed. Sump pump and (indoor) foundation work done on Dec 7 in a rental property. We were assured that the water problem in the basement was taken care of. I got a call at 8:10 AM this morning from our renter, because water was all over the basement. Of course, I called NV and someone came to the property, as did my husband. He just returned, saying the worker put 10 strips of "scotch tape" on the plastic sheeting. Water was still in the sump pump area (our renter had already dried up the basement rooms); the worker(s) did not clean up the water. Although someone else is to come to the property in two days, we are still left with the same problem that we had before spending over $23,000. read more

We had a minor issue with mold in the basement. Two tiny spots around the window. This whole process blew out of proportion. My partner is in this line of work but did not complete this job as we are renting the unit. He even stated that what they are doing is uncalled for and completely unnecessary. They ripped out an entire wall. Tore up the concrete foundation to put a pipe running the front part of the house that connects to a sump pump all the way to the back of the house. The office staff is quick to respond. They said the process would take a day, turned into two. Not a big deal. They left the containment flap open during the demo process and took down the containment before all the dust debris settled which meant all that concrete dust floated to other areas in the house. We have dust on everything. The purpose of them putting up containment is to CONTAIN the debris. I'm also missing a family heirloom. A tiny "gold" owl that was given to me by my great-grandfather. It was there when we moved all the furniture around to accommodate the work the day before they arrived and when we went back, literally the afternoon they finished, it was missing. Everything else that was on that window shelf was there, except this owl. I'd get a second opinion on any work they quote and ensure even the smallest of chachkies are removed. read more

I called three companies and two gave me estimates and the third company never got back to me. The two I received were close in price so I decided to go with NV Waterproofing company and am I glad I did. Manny and his crew were on time and worked for two days breaking up my concrete floor in my garage, putting in a sump pump and a trench plus digging down to waterproof my wall which took over 6 hours because it had to be done by hand. Everything is working great and the water is coming out of my garage into my rock garden. I am so pleased with the hard work these guys did. They were polite, timely and cleaned up. Im in process of selling my house and I got dinged for what I originally thought were minor foundation cracks. I decided to have multiple companies come in and take a look at the issue. Company A came out and decided I needed a tier system costing 15K. I almost had a coronary. There were no signs that I had a major foundation issue so I found this a bit suspect. Next, I had Greg from NV Waterproofing come out do a visual inspection and take some measurements using his laser and level. In the end he told me I had normal settlement and to do nothing. Not even fill it b/c that way you can monitor it over time. I offered to pay them him for his time and he respectfully declined. I wish I had some work for him but I guess leaving a glowing review is the next best thing. I cant speak highly enough of Greg and NV. It makes me feel warm and fuzzy knowing their are good, honest business still out there. read more

My one star review is only because I can't give zero. This company recommended $15k worth of foundation work when nothing was necessary and said they don't pull permits in DC. I contacted NV Waterproofing & Foundation Repair for an evaluation bc cracks started showing up in my home's drywall. Michael Hahn came out, used a laser level, took some pictures, and explained that my foundation was sinking into the ground. He recommended a $15k push pier system. The whole thing was a little too slick and "sales-y" to me, including the explanation of how pulling the permits would just increase the cost for me and slow things down. Fortunately, I always get at least 2 opinions on any substantial work. The company that did my next evaluation (Deska Services) sent an actual structural engineer instead of a salesperson. There was a fee for his time, but I figured it would be worth it. It was. He determined there was no structural damage AT ALL and the cracks I was seeing were due to cheap plaster and paint being used when the house was flipped. Since the two opinions couldn't be more different, I got a third opinion from Soil and Structure Consulting, who also sent a structural engineer. Like with Deska, the evaluation wasn't free, but it was money well spent. Same exact opinion as Deska Services. My foundation is solid and the cracks are cosmetic. If I didn't seek out a second opinion, I'd be out $15k for unnecessary work done without permits. If you suspect you need foundation work in DC, I recommend staying far away from NV Waterproofing. Don't let the evaluation fee from a company that specializes in foundation work dissuade you. $200-$300 is a small price to pay to have a licensed structural engineer who knows their stuff assess the situation and save you from spending thousands on unnecessary work. read more

Jayne was extremely helpful in scheduling our work and answering questions ahead of time. Kevin and his crew arrived promptly in the morning to install support beams on a foundation wall. This company was very professional and attentive when I was trying to get a quote on a leak I had in my basement. They recommended a course of action and we set a date for the work. The work needed more than one day but they rushed through it because they had "another job tomorrow" the didn't end up completing the job the way they told me and the result was very unsightly. When about 4 months later the leak returned in the exact same spot, their consultant essentially told me that what was done was not necessary and does not address the issue. The job cost $4500. I asked them to do what is necessary and will fix the issue but they referred me to the contract and basically found a loophole so they did not have to do anything. They are great salesmen and they are will do a job as long as you pay whether it fixes your problem or not. When it comes to taking responsibility for their advice and their work they are nowhere to be found. Avoid this company! read more

We moved into new house and quickly found out the basement had major water issues due to years of neglect (including a clogged and poorly installed English drain from years ago, and a sump pump that while it worked, never pumped water.). Given the investment we made in buying the house, we wanted to make sure we left no doubt in our mind that we were fixing it for the long haul so we could use the basement without worry of mold/mildew for our kids. We had NV Waterproofing install perimeter wide gutter guards, and a new sump pump system and drainage pipes. As soon as the work was done we got rain, and for the first time in the 4 months since we have lived here I saw the water that otherwise would be in our basement actually in the rear of our backyard by the discharge pipe. We have had a few more rains and even one snow and there is nothing better to look at then when I see the water that is coming out of the discharge pipe that I know otherwise would be pooling in my basement and cinder blocks walls, and how that was the case for many years before we moved in. Also, the team that did the work was extremely professional. We have 3 kids and pets and the team was extremely courteous. We tried to stay out of their way during the week they were doing the work, however there were times when we couldn't and the team was extremely courteous and professional. The team lead, HB, did an amazing job of explaining to me the work he was going to do, showing me updates, and then afterwards explaining in detail what was done, why it was done, and things for me to look for for in the future. [Friday evening, Nov. 15, 2019] Well a representative from the company returned today, and by this evening, they had not only damaged another section of our garden, they had also left us with terrible news: At least one major portion -- but possibly all -- of the interior and exterior drains that the company installed do not drain properly. This means that they will now have to be jack-hammered out and reinstalled, and at least one of our new window-wells will need to be reinstalled as well. So the contractors that we hired to refinish our home -- who were supposed to start work in early November --- will now be delayed by days or possibly weeks more; and my family will have to endure the infernal noise and incredible dust and chaos of drain installation ALL OVER AGAIN. As a consequence, we will need to continue to pay hundreds of dollars per month to store our belongings off site, and our family members coming for the holidays will now will have to stay at a hotel. We are watching the dollar signs continue to spin due to this company's incompetence. My husband and I cannot begin to describe how distressed and frankly angry we are at this company's terrible workmanship, the incredible mess that they have made of our home and garden, and at the genuinely stressful situation they have placed us in. ___________________ [Friday morning Nov. 15, 2019] Since posting my shocking and disappointing experience with this company yesterday, I have received a phone message from the owner of the company promising to make things right. I am glad that NV is being responsive; and hope that the work will be completed correctly and without more delay. ___________________ [Thursday Nov. 14, 2019] We signed an agreement with this company with very high hopes. Their water-proofing products looked very good, and the company came well recommended by our architect. Unfortunately we have found the experience of working with NV Waterproofing disappointing and frustrating -- the crew was personally very nice, but also very disorganized and uneven in their work. The estimator and company contact with whom we signed the contract has been extremely slow to respond since we paid our first enormous deposit; and though the work was supposed to be completed over a week ago, the contractors have yet to finish the job. So our stairwell box drain still does not drain, the interior flush-out ports have not all been installed, and the waterproofing membrane that is supposed to be flush to the wall is sagging enough to gap in places. The part of the drainage system in that was installed in our garden in a rush in the dark on the last day the crew was here was installed in manner that had nothing to do with the careful plans that we agreed to -- and nonsensically it placed a ditch through the roots of three rose bushes and terminated above a boxwood shrub, all unplanned and nonsensical actions likely to kill these valuable plants. The terminus to this ditch still remains unfinished. While we have been reassured that the unfinished work will be completed soon, we are disturbed that the crew left the work-site incredibly dirty and seriously unsafe -- with piles of framing boards on top of cement dust and rubble and entangled with dismounted electrical wiring filled with un-turned nails. The work site, as it was left, was ripe to cause injury to us and our rebuilding contractor, who had to clean-up after NV Waterproofing's dangerous mess. I was electrically shocked by one of the downed wires when I touched it yesterday; and two of our phone lines are now short-circuited. I called our company contact at NV to discuss this after I was shocked yesterday morning, but I have received no response. read more

Be very careful with this company! I had heard many good things about this company but we had a terrible experience. We contacted them thinking we may have a small foundation issue. The sales rep who came to our house didn't even look at the issue in question (covered in carpet) but within 5 minutes of entering our property let us know that our house was sinking and we would need to spend between $40,000 and $100,000 on push piers for our home. He then took us upstairs, showed us a sleek video and asked us which option we wanted and how we would pay. There was really no clear explanation as to why we needed the push piers when he hadn't even looked at anything. We thanked him and he left. However, just to be careful in case we did have an issue we spent $1,000 and hired a structural engineer to come and inspect our entire home. In the end he said there was nothing wrong with our home. The issue in our foundation that we called about was a small dent left from initial construction that we had just never noticed before. It was not a structural or foundation issue. So although I'm not happy I spent $1,000 on an engineer I would rather spend that then spend $100,000 on work I didn't need. I'm sure there are real foundation issues that do need to be addressed but I would definitely get a second opinion if you decide to use this company. read more

"NV Waterproofing does not pull permits." That's a quote from Jayne, the manager (I have the emails). That fact alone should be enough to send potential customers running, but let's start from the beginning. My basement had a sump pump that was as old as Methuselah. The previous owner of the house had also ghetto-rigged a second sump pump outside in the basement stairwell, presumably because the occupants couldn't be bothered to keep the stairwell drain un-clogged. That had a tendency to get clogged at the same time as the drain. My house also has a perimeter drain under the basement floor that used to work fine and drained directly into the sump pump basin. I called NV Waterproofing to install a sump pump with a battery backup after we lost power and had some flooding. They also proposed some gutter-like drains in the sump pump room, having the adjacent window wells drain to the sump pump, and replacing the stairwell pump with a larger drain that drains directly to the new sump pump. I said to go ahead and do everything. The total was between $5k and $6k. The day of the installation, I get home from work and the first thing I notice is that the stairwell pump is gone (as proposed), but the drain they said they'd install was not there. In other words, they removed the stairwell pump but didn't do the work that was supposed to eliminate the need for said pump, i.e., they made the problem worse. Apparently they couldn't install the proposed drain because it was lower than the main sump pump. But did they call me to explain and, more importantly, ASK whether they should still remove the stairwell pump? No, they just went ahead and made the problem worse. They were, however, more than happy to try to sell me a new stairwell pump that can handle leaves and such. Strike one. Then, I hear running water from the sump pump room. I open the lid to the sump basin and see that the pump has multiple leaks, and is stuck in a loop of sucking up water, leaking back into the basin, sucking up the same water, etc. This was the same day as the installation, how did they miss this? Strike two. They did send somebody out the next day and replaced the defective pump. One of the most concerning things, though, is that I've never gotten a straight answer about how the new perimeter drain in the sump pump room is connected to the old perimeter drain around the rest of the basement. I had one guy tell me "you don't have a perimeter drain," later walked back to "you have a perimeter drain, but it's in poor condition," (again, it worked fine...) and that the new drain is sealed at the ends. I had another guy tell me that the new drain wasn't sealed at the ends, and that there was no problem (but he failed to specify how the new and old drains were connected). Strike three. To investigate the matter myself I drilled into the old perimeter drain and poured in some water with tracer dye in it. At least some of it does eventually make it into the sump pump, but there's clearly some impediment. They also told us after the fact that the new sump pump needs to be connected to two different electrical circuits. Having a separate circuit run is a significant expense, and the fact that we would need to do this was never communicated to us beforehand. Strike... four? They caused so many problems that this baseball metaphor is falling apart. Fast forward some months and I notice that no permits were ever pulled for this work. Two things to note here: First, this work absolutely required permits (two, actually). Second, in Fairfax County, the contractor is, BY LAW, required to pull the necessary permits. I now always ask my contractors whether they'll pull the permits, and every time they look at me like I'm an idiot because of course they do. Anyway, upon noticing this I email Jayne, thinking it was an honest mistake... and that's where we get "NV Waterproofing does not pull permits." I'm absolutely floored. We exchange phone calls and at some point the president of the company (John, I think) calls me and starts going on about how they don't pull permits to save the customer money but they stand behind their work, blah, blah. When I countered that it's illegal for him not to pull permits, his only response was "I guess you can make that argument." After some arguing, they wanted $800 to have some third party pull the permits (Fairfax permits usually cost just over $100 each). A threat to report them to the DPOR (which I still really should do) seemed to do the trick and they eventually pulled the permits themselves. I'm lucky the inspector was cool about it, as he could have demanded that everything be dug up. After all this, there was a heavy rain and water started gushing in where the pipe from the sump pump penetrates the wall. They hadn't sealed around it properly. They sent somebody to fix it, and hopefully that's the last I'll ever need to deal with them. read more

We had an interior drainage system placed by NV. The experience on install day was amazing!!!!! We are so grateful to Casey and his team (Ricky, Grant). Also grateful for Manny and Rosendo for helping out as well during the install. The job was completed and the work area was left in clean shape. We were informed of everything during the entire install. Everyone was honest and very respectful. Highly recommend Casey and team for anyone setting up to do work with NV. Had several leaks in a basement wall from the earthquake in 2011. Rich Oliver came out and did a resin injection repair. He came right on time and was very nice to deal with. Cost was $900.00. Haven't had a leak since. These people are great! read more

Part of the sump pump system we had installed in our house last year broke down and Sean came out to look at it for us. He was incredibly helpful, and walked us through exactly what we needed to do to make sure we fulfilled the requirements of the warranty. read more
