My friends and I wanted to throw a last minute taco station together and realized that we could get everything we needed from this store! It's technically a Northgate supermarket, "Mercado Gonzalez Northgate Market is what it says on the building. We came in thinking it would be a regular grocery store, but we were so wrong! This place is kind of like an indoor open market, where produce is scattered throughout the store and there are meat shops, sauce shops, etc. scattered throughout the store too. The whole concept was super interesting, and there were food courts also scattered on the outskirts, and some in the center too. You just had to be there to see it! We were able to get freshly cooked taco meats (pork, chicken, and beef), tortillas, tortilla chips, guac, salsa, chopped onions and cilantro, and chopped tomatoes. The parking was really packed when we went, but it was also a holiday, so we weren't surprised about that. Definitely will be returning if we ever wanted to do a cultural-themed food night. read more

Came on a Friday night and boy was that a mistake...because this place is still relatively new, it was SO BUSY! It was hard to walk around inside and every stall had a line. Despite that, this place is a great spot for a date night or group hangout. There are quite a few options for food, but I think the taco stall was my favorite. Really can't go wrong with al pastor. I tried birria tacos from a different stall, and they were only ok, so I'd definitely just focus on the street tacos next time. I also really enjoyed the paleta I got from the ice cream shop. The churro line was ridiculous but apparently El Moro is from CDMX so I couldn't pass up the opportunity to try. Huge selection of places to eat or drink! Parking can be a bit of a bear so just try to avoid weekends or meal times. I've eaten twice at Tacos Los Guichos inside. I had a Cubana Torta once, and a Pastor Quesadilla. Both were excellent. There always seems to be a bit of a line to order and a wait for your food but patience is rewarded. The middle of the store has all your normal grocery store fixings -- fresh produce, cereal, condiments, etc. Then the edges of the store are filled with countless fresh food vendors, all serving unique items. Some tips: - Parking is A MESS if you try to park close, considering this place is new and the hype is real. I recommend parking down the lots towards Home Depot and walking. Save yourself some stress. - Don't mistake the churro line with the entrance line! There is often a line (for the churro vendor) that curves outside the door and people think that is the line to get in the market. It's not. It's just the churro line. Don't waste your time and walk around the line into the market. - Come early. It can get very crowded and a bit overwhelming. I recommend coming earlier in the day for the best experience. read more

I've been wanting to check this place out for a while, but it's always so busy! I finally decided to visit during the week, and it was much less crowded with shorter lines....definitely a pro tip if you want a more relaxed experience. True to its name, "Mercado" offers a vibrant mix of food vendors and an actual market. We started with the aguas frescas and loved that you could sample them before deciding. My favorite was the crema con leche (strawberries with cream) absolutely delicious! We also couldn't resist the churros, and wow, they did not disappoint. Served hot and fresh, they were packed with flavor and melted in my mouth. Decided to wait a few weeks after their grand opening but my oh my, it was still packed! **Beware of parking, as this complex shares the surface lot with other high foot traffic establishments. I suggest that you come during non peak hours The set up, was a bit confusing. It felt like a market but when you turn the corner there's a food stall. Sometimes it was hard to tell who is a food vendor and who belongs to the supermarket. The space is definitely not big enough to combat the long lines and huge crowds. Some stalls were busier than others. Some stalls served some of the same items, but still a decent variety. The longest line of the night was for the tacos. $2.99 per taco, any choice of protein. We went with carne asada and al pastor. The meats were cooked perfectly but a little under seasoned but overall a really good taco! The salsa bar was kept clean and stocked. The tamales had a long line throughout our time there but their service was much quicker as they help you while you wait and when you get to the cashier you just pay. I wish the layout was better because once we stuffed our faces, we didn't see that there was more to see and taste. I guess we need to develop a better game plan for our next visit. It's very loud with the live band. So loud, some stalls had a hard time calling out orders and a lot of patrons were left standing around. I did really want to like this place but I won't be going out of my way again to shop here. First off, the new market has made the parking in this shopping center just atrocious. I used to shop in the same center many years ago at stores like tj maxx and parking was nothing like it is now. It took nearly 15 minutes to find a spot. Not fun. Then there were 2 long lines in front of the store. One line was for the churro and the other was regular entrance. I asked around to make sure I was in the right line. I was told the market was at capacity by one of the securities. The line was huge and I wasn't sure how long it was going to take but within 5 minutes they just started letting everyone in. My main goal was to get flowers, shop for meal prep ingredients, and eat at one of the food shops. Upon entering, the flowers were one of the first things I saw. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in both the flower quality and price. The price for flowers is above trader joes, more like Ralphs prices, but out of all the flowers I only saw one bouquet with decent quality; however I ended up puting that back too. The seafood is not priced well. I can get lobster tails for about $5-6. Here its $12 each. Huh? No thanks. What I didn't like was that departments that serves fresh food close early. I passed by one place that had fresh guacamole and it only had 1 guac container out. 5 minutes later I came back to get the container but that container plus everything else that was on the display got put away. Behind the counter they had fresh ingredients for ready to make guac but the lady behind the counter looked at me then the ingredients and then refused to make me one. I felt like she could have spent 90 seconds to make me one but she didn't feel like it. I didnt check what time it was but this was a big inconvenience. I ended up buying ingredients to make my own guac which costs more than double and I couldn't have my guac and chips right away. Not happy. I also did not end up trying any of the restaurants in the food court. Its good for meat eaters, but being a pescetarian my options were kind of limited. I wasn't able to read a lot of the food choices and the somewhat long lines deterred me from buying the hot food. I'll end it on a positive note by adding you can pretty much buy anything you would need and expect from a Mexican grocer here. It is a nice market and it does elevate the shopping experience. I spent less than 50$ on my ingredients for meal prep which includes sweet corn tamales for 6 breakfasts, shrimp, rice, salad, fruit, chips and ingredients for guac, and ingredients for coconut pudding. Coming here on a Saturday evening may have been a mistake unless you're into the chaos of the crowds the weekend brings in. Despite how many people were there, my friend and I really enjoyed the food. Exploring the food stalls was nice but crowded with people. When I return on a weeknight, I'll be sure to try out the tacos and tamales next time. Review #6 for 2025 WOW! I've seen this place pop up on my Instagram reels and this place actually lives up to the hype!! As soon as we walked into this place, it felt like a fiesta!! Music was thumping and omg, did the food smell good!! We had just eaten and were really full, but as soon as we came here, we wished we went here for dinner instead! It's a HUGE supermarket with food vendors galore!!! Every corner there was something fresh cooking! They were making fresh chicharrons, chips, tortillas. There's a auga freshca booth, taco booth, fish taco booth, bar, enchiladas, coffee, churros, bakery and so much more! What I also noticed was how clean the store was also!! It is literally the cleanest Mexican Market I have ever been to! There is also a huge parking lot, but it was Saturday and so the parking lot was really full. As far as the foods, after walking around a while, we tried the churros, coffee, and ice cream! Oh the fresh made churros were soooo good!! Piping hot and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. I got the cafe de olla but did not realize it was a black coffee, so I was not too fond of that one. Next time I will try the horchata mexican latte instead. Ice cream was also good and the serving was huge!! I got a 1 scoop to share with my baby boy and it was more like 2 scoops and so we were not able to finish it. As far as prices, all the food booths have good pricing. Nothing was overly expensive. You can get tacos for about $3 and food platters for $10-15 depending on what you got. The churros were $3 each or 4 for $11, or if you have a really large group, you can get a dozen for $30. They also selling dipping sauce but we got plain churros and they definitely hit the spot. We also ended up with a few grocery items. We bought meats, gauc, and salsa for taco night. They have such a huge variety of salsas and gaucs... there is something for everyone! We had a great taco night the next evening as everything we bought was so good! Would I come back? Yes, we would!! This place is far from us, and with traffic can easily take over an hour to get to. However, we all agreed that this place was worth the drive to experience!! 4 stars for the store concept. I love that each specialty is advertised as its own market or stall. We decided to come here on the grand opening day after seeing a TikTok video of the store. Parking was kind of a nightmare. The spots are so small that larger cars often park over the line causing no other cars to be able to park in the spaces next to it. They also offer valet if you want to pay $5 for 20 or 30 minutes for a quick stop inside. The store was PACKED. Everything they had was freshly made in-store. From tortillas to chicharron. The food hall was big but also packed. We came midday so it was too early to eat dinner. We definitely did try the El Moro Churrerria. The line was long but it moved really quickly. You also get your churros a couple of minutes after ordering. Since they are frying them non-stop. I also ordered a Mexicano hot chocolate. Both were delicious. Stopped by today after my mother being insistent we check this place out. After all we gotta support la raza. It was very busy and with good reason. The colorful vibe, seeing people hard at work, the flavors, the joy of it all was amazing to witness. It was very busy when we arrived, luckily we found a place to park right away and proceeded to get in line for the churros. These aren't just any churros. Churreria "El Moro" has been around since the 1930's in Mexico and with such a simple, but amazingly delicious flavor you are sure to want to want more. It's the Rolex of churros. I am already missing the churros I ate (I tried to resist and stick to one, but that one was the loneliest one) It's a great thing I came with my husband & my parents because after seeing how packed it was we separated to get in the multiple lines that are here. There's a line for churros, a line for the bakery, a line for meat market, a line for beverages, there's a mini liquor store inside, and beautifully decorated Mexican artisanal work...etc. It's its own shopping center. We came wanting to get the churros but also tamales Oaxaqueños, & some sweet tamales de fresa (strawberry) but unfortunately they were out of those, but we got to try the queso con rajas which were delicious. They wrapped the tamales very well in order to preserve the moisture of the masa & were filled well. You can best believe we'll come again. Hopefully on a weekday because coming during opening weekend was beyond loco of us. The atole de nuez is my favorite hot holiday beverage. Btw it has pecans. If you don't know. Mercado Gonzalez Northgate is SUCH a gem of a local marketplace. The culture is incredible, with music, colorful decorations, and every imaginable Latin American staple available to try. Some of the stalls have longer lines than others, so I have yet to try the popular tacos (which are $3 each, and honestly that is about the best you can expect for orange county), but I have loved everything I've had the chance to get. The ceviche is fresh, and absolutely delicious - buy a bag of tortilla chips to go with it and you are set for a meal. I decided on the avocado shrimp ceviche, but you can sample a few to decide which you like best! My brother ordered the Flautas de Pollo from the puesto near the butcher in the back, and though the chicken was a bit dry, he said the sauces and flavors of the rice and beans made up for it. Plus it was a whole plate of food and sides for $13. Everyone we talked to was super sweet, many of them offering samples or reccommendations. I saw this place on TikTok and I was not disappointed. My husband and I arrived around 7 on a Monday night and it was super packed. There are many different stands serving different foods. I had the elote (this was quite possibly the best Mexican corn I've had to date, extremely flavorful), burrito and my husband had tacos. We also purchased some chips & guac (also very fresh, seems to be made in-house). On the way out we tried to grab some hot chocolate & churros but the line was too long, so we grabbed some pastries just across from the churro stand. I highly recommend this food court. The wife and I were actually going to eat somewhere else, but when we could not find parking at that place the wife suggested checking out Mercado Northgate she had read about recently. Plenty of reviews of how cool this place is overall so I am concentrating on what we ordered at Birrieria. After reviewing the menu to understand what we wanted, I decided on the Quesabirria combo. Sounded awesome. I passed on the goat option and went with the beef, although I would go back and try the goat next time. We ordered at the counter and they take your phone number to let you know your food is ready. Cool especially if it is crowded you can walk around the market. The food was ready pretty fast and my wife had gone off to find a table. The combo has two large taco size tortillas filled with shredded beef, melted cheese, onions and cilantro. The tortillas were fried and then dipped in the birria consommé. You get rice and beans on the side along with a cup of the consommé. - Quesabirrias - very good and each were good size. Could have split them with the wife. - Rice and Beans - excellent - Birria Consommé - this was disappointing part of the meal and I think a very important element of good birria. While they give you a generous portion, it was very greasy. I would expect to be able to eat the remaining consommé with a spoon like soup. Nope. Didn't even use the consommé to dip my second quesabirria. A bit disappointing. As happens many times, I would probably give them another chance to see if this was a one off. Went today (Wednesday) during lunch and it wasn't too crowded. I can't imagine this place on a weekend!! Before I talk about the food, let me say that the employees are so friendly and helpful at the stands we were at! The grocery areas were stocked very well and reasonably priced for being new and in a very nice neighborhood. We had the mixto coctel which was amazing and filled with shrimp, octopus and scallops. The flavors were excellent and definitely a must try! We had the carne asada & chicken tacos. I love a nice char but it was overpowering in both. Will try it again next to see if it was a one off. We also had the churros & Espanol hot chocolate. The churros were delicious & hot! The espanol hot chocolate was a bit thick & strong which was better as a dip for the churros rather than just drinking it. We tried the jamica drink during our meal and it was great. Inspired by the mercados in Mexico, this is a hybrid of a grocery market and food hall. There were counters for seafood, tortillas, salsas, bakery and more and with lots of food stalls. It's a very large space and kind of overwhelming. It's best to walk around a bit just to see what's on offer. Long lines had already formed for the food stalls, so I went to the mariscos counter. The women working there were very friendly, even offering samples of the ceviches! I bought a few ceviches/aguachiles, guacamole and freshly made warm tortillas. Wow, foodie heaven. Northgate recently opened in Costa Mesa and we went over to explore. There are so many little eateries tucked inside from fresh tamales, tacos, birria, a bakery, fresh tortillas, fresh salsas and chips, a churro shop, butcher, fresh seafood, spices, and so much more. We picked up a few packages of fresh tortillas that were still warm in the package, and they are amazing. Never buying grocery store tortillas again. Then we stopped and picked up a package of fresh tamales, they too are scrumptious. We explored every inch and could spend hours exploring and buying. The fresh veggies and fruit market is exceptional. Found a package of cactus burgers???? Right, had never heard of it. But it is slices of cactus in the shape of a burger patty, and just as thick. Didn't pick them up but I am going to and just give it a try. Found fresh prickly pears, perfect for prickly pear margaritas. I found so many ingredients that you see chefs on TV cook with, but can't find in your local grocery store, but many are here at the Mercado. The chile shop is fantastic, so many varieties of dried chiles and other spices. The market is a gem and I will be back time and time again. read more

We've been waiting for Northgate to open for the past 2 years and it did not disappoint! It is a dining heaven! They have everything from birria to tamales to ceviche to fresh tortillas to paletas to fresh baked bread. They have an amazing bar as well! There is something for everyone and everything is freshly made. I am glad they finally opened and is bringing the community together! read more

Really nice market with a variety of food & goodies. It's a bit overwhelming deciding. I was feeling under the weather so opted for a fruit salad in a cup for dinner. It was a bit on the sweeter side for me. My husband enjoyed his torta. Lots of cute items from Mexico at decent prices. We'll be back when in town again. read more

This place is by far the Mexican food district! Northgate blew it out of the water... I was told they have live Mariachi on weekend and they also have a killer patio. It was busy on a Tuesday night imagine a weekend. First things first! The churros were amazing!!!! I've had home made back yard churros but this, were something else, not too doughy and not to greasy. I don't know their secret but man it was amazingly tasty They had long lines for the pan dulce area and the line would not let up. The best part was how open with huge windows so you could see them prepping and cooking Nothing hidden. Words can't describe this place, you need to go see it first hand.
