Such a cute place! First time here and absolutely will be coming back. The empanadas are deeeelicious! We tried the beef and papa, chicken, and I believe ropa vieja. So so good! They have many more options. I wasn't able to try there coffee, but I definitely will next time. It looks like they have sandwiches and, burritos, also a ton of yummy pastries. I'll be trying a few next time as well! First time here and I was really impressed. The girls working there were the sweetest, with us. Totally recommend to check it out!
I saw OBRA bakery on tiktok so I decided to stop by on a Wednesday before lunch time. It was pretty quiet. When you walk in you will be greeted with counters of pastries, empanadas, single cake slices and cookies. Everything looked really good. My sister-in-law got a breakfast burrito and I got the breakfast sandwich and one chicken empanada and one beef empanada. The empanadas were really good and full of flavor. I think it would be really great as an option for a big party or a gathering since they cater as well. The breakfast burrito was very greasy, and it was not portioned out correctly, so every part of the burrito was just in clumps in different sections and you couldn't really get a bite of everything at any point. The breakfast sandwich was pretty good. I thought it was very evenly balanced. The croissant was delicious. All in all I could go back for the empanadas but more realistically I will stop by again to pick up a box of empanadas for parties.
Had this book marked for a couple months and was finally able to go give em a try. I placed my order on their website, I picked several different empanadas and a dozen of the potato balls. Got there on time for my scheduled pick up and I was greeted by the 2 employees. They have a pick up area, so you don't have to wait in the order line. I let the employee know I had an online order and provided my name. She found my order and asked for a couple of minutes while she put my order together. They don't pre-pick it, she put my order together when i got there so it wasn't just sitting and waiting. This ensures everything is fresh. I tried a couple of empanadas - and I wasn't a fan of them because they were baked. I'm from the San Gabriel valley and I've been getting my empanadas from Tito's (IYKYK). The baked crust just didn't cut it for me. Potato balls - I thought they were really good and was the star of the show here. They are giant compared to Porto's. The meat is well seasoned and they don't crumble and fall apart when you bite into them like Porto's. They do have a lot more potato - this is why they don't break apart. The chicken filled ones have a little spice to them. I would return for the potato's but I would skip the empanadas. I'll try some of the pastries and cookies next time too,.
We came here on Father's Day'. Just wanted something lowkey. We got the Cuban sandwich, fries, and a sausage empanada. My wife also got a slice of passion fruit cheesecake. Everything tasted great and we will definitely be back again.
They have a big selection of menu items, both savory and pastries. I love the extra detailing they put into the empanadas and the fact that each empanada is labeled. Taste-wise, they were okay but the potato balls were absolutely amazing!! Best potato ball I've had, wayyy better than Porto's. Pricing is more on the expensive side. Spent around $80 for 6 empanadas, 7 potato balls, and a coffee. I wish I had ordered a smaller amount because they didn't reheat well and didn't taste the same the next day even after putting them in the air fryer.
My boyfriend came to OBRA a few weeks and mentioned how much he loved it so we came on Saturday morning so I can try it! I got the breakfast empanada cause he said it was good. I liked it but the only thing I will say is that there was barely any egg in the empanada. I think what made up for it was the sauces but I do wish there was more egg which my boyfriend said last time there was. My boyfriend ordered the breakfast burrito. We are very picky about our breakfast burrito but this one was so good. The combination of the flavors was Pete etc and the creamy cilantro sauce inside tied everything together. It is now one of his fav burrito in OC! We would come back for the burrito. I want to try their beef balls and he wants to try the Cuban sandwich. The service was good, the 2 women working were nice. It's a new space so I everything was clean and organized. I do have to say, their playlist was fire!
OBRA is a nice little Latin American inspired bakery known for its Empanadas. I tried the BBQ pork and the Beef Empanadas, which is their best seller, both of which costs about $4-5. The outside of the pastry was baked pretty well, good texture. The meat filling was I thought was decently seasoned and was pretty filling. Each came with a chipotle based dipping sauce which I thought provided additional good flavor. I also tried their beef ball which I also thought was pretty good. This location is Santa Ana is decently sized with a good number of seats inside. The store was clean and well kept. Service was friendly. Food took a little bit to come out, but not too long
This place is really good! And a great alternative to Porto's! I want to give this place 5 stars but a couple of items didn't really hit the mark, but some other items were amazing! 1. Obra ball is a must get! Seasoned flavorful minced beef with potato and cheese, and it's huge! 2. The Cuban sandwich was delicious! The pork was so juicy! However I wished that they gave more than one slice of thin ham with the sandwich. 3. I also really liked the iced tres leches coffee! Make sure to stir it up before drinking, really great flavor! 4. I didn't enjoy the beef empanada as much as the chicken. The chicken seemed to have more flavor and seasoning l. 5. The deserts were kind of a miss for me. The Dulce Lindser cookies was decent but nothing special. The chocolate chip cookie was on the tougher brittle side. However when throwing it in the microwave, it was actually soft gooey and delicious!
Stopped by Ombra Hand Bakery and wow... everything looked absolutely beautiful and fresh. I ordered the cubed sandwich, and it did not disappoint. The bread was soft on the inside with the perfect crisp on the outside, and every bite tasted fresh and flavorful without feeling overly heavy. You can tell a lot of care goes into both the presentation and quality of the food here. The bakery itself had such a clean, modern, cozy vibe, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy lunch or coffee. Definitely a hidden gem in Santa Ana, and I'll absolutely be coming back to try more items from the menu!
Ok so this spot is a hidden gem. The location is very central, the staff are very friendly, the interior is so clean and spacious, but most of all the food slaps...so hard! I tried multiple empanadas, potato balls, a chicken pie, and some desserts. They have a really solid selection of ready to go pastries, but also a whole menu of cooked-to-order sandwiches and burritos. The pro tip is to order a dozen empanadas or more and then they'll throw some in for free! Will definitely be back ASAP!
I bought a chicken square pie and a crispy chicken sandwich to go. The sandwich was delicious, especially with the spicy mayo sauce. Plenty of seating and food options. I'd definitely be back!
WOW! Came here on a friday morning, about an hour after they opened! Little to no line, so service was super quick, and the lady at the front was super nice and decriptive about all of the menu items that they had available. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by the sight of all of their baked goods (empanadas, desserts, etc). I got the apple turnover, OBRA beef ball, ropa viejo empanada, and an iced tres leches coffee. Both the salsas and sauces that came with went beautifully with each savory item. The empanada was fluffy and flaky and was delicious, the OBRA ball reminded me of porto's potato ball, and was maybe even larger than that, and the apple turnover as my dessert was sooooo good. I would. most definitely come here again to grab something in the morning! The coffee was sweet and I enjoyed drinking it on my way to work after.
Everything is made from scratch. Casual, Plenty of seats. Cubano sandwich- decent sandwich, good size, but meat was a bit dry. Prefer from Porto's. Passionfruit cheesecake- delicious, not too dense, mildly sweet with lot of passion fruit flavor. I want to try the OBRA balls next time!

Placed an order of 3 mix and match boxes for catering at work (premium coworking) in Irvine and they were delivered on time, and still hot!! Great flavor, great quality. You can tell these were made with attention to detail, love, and care. My members loved these. Highly recommend! read more

F O O D I can only speak to the empanadas because that's primarily what I came for. There were plenty of flavors to pick from but my favorite was the curry and baked BBQ pork. They have other items to choose from including drinks as well! S E R V I C E Customer service was very friendly and informative regarding their menu. Delicious Cuban inspired bakery/cafe. I say inspired because I don't know how authentic their food is, but still delicious. I've been here once before during a Yelp event and knew I had to return. Today I ordered a beef potato ball and a breakfast empanada, along with a dulce de leche latte. The potato balls here are better than Porto's for me. The empanada was tasty as well. One of each was enough, as they were both a good size and pretty filling. I ordered the latte half sweet and it was much more balanced to my taste. Service here is great. The ladies at the register all provide great service and are very attentive. Inside is spacious with plenty of seating. read more

Came to Obra Handbakery with my coworkers for lunch. For a while, I had seen this place featured on social media and I was curious to check it out. It's located in a small strip mall with just enough parking. As you enter, you'll be going through the path where you can view all of the items in their glass displays. Take note of what interests you, and you'll place your order at the register after viewing all the baked goods. Everything looks bright and clean. The dining area is spacious and there are many tables. There was not a lot of people while we were there. One big group with about six people and a couple other single people. I ordered the Ropa Vieja burrito since I wanted something simple to eat. I also ordered a beef and potato ball also since it's my favorite at another bakery. Unfortunately, the ball was not included with my order when I picked it up. After eating my burrito halfway, I went back up to the pick up area to ask for it. No apology or anything. In fact, they made me feel a little guilty or something because I was asking for it. Not very friendly service with that encounter. I was polite and nice about it too, but I guess it was an inconvenience for them to heat it up for me. I also had ordered the take and bake empanadas to eat at home. My coworkers all had the empanadas and it looked like two was enough for them. It looked like they were stuffed with the filling. As for my burrito, it wasn't what I had expected. The shredded beef was very sparse, and you can see slivers of the pieces of beef as it was filled with a lot of french fries. There's also egg inside the burrito. The flavor was not for me. I should've just ordered the empanadas then for lunch. It wasn't worth the $13.99 for the French fries burrito. I also ordered two pieces of cake to go for my family. The coconut dulce de leche and carrot cake. They were both pretty good and dense and pretty sweet. read more

*catering for work* As a Gluten free gal - so fantastic to find a place with gluten free "empanadita", the beef was flavored well and the CRUNCH of the empanada - to die for!! My coworkers all raved about the breakfast and beef empanadas we got and also enjoyed the beef ball (which was HUGE). So happy to have found this bakery near my office. Will be back. read more
Had been hearing the hype about this place. It's about a mile from my office, so I decided to stop by and give it a try. Upon entrance, you have a small area that loops around their display cases til you get to the register. Visually, everything looks appealing. I ordered 2 empanadas; 1 Beef and 1 Cuban. As an empanada connoisseur, I was not impressed. The Beef one had more potatoes than beef, and the Cuban was very bland. I'll give it another shot to try their Cuban sandwich, but I think there are much better places in the area. read more

I picked up 3 empanadas this morning. I was looking at the food displays but she walked to the cash register, and was talking to me from there... she said you need to order here. I was trying to pick up flavors. Jalapeño, sausage and ropa vieja. I came from 20 min away just to try this place. The small box had a tape to keep it closed. I asked her for hot sauce, she said that the sauces were inside. I got home and ask my wife to open up the box .. let's try them together. To find out I got some pink mayonnaise and some green tomatoes souce . She did not give me any hot sauce .... Or options of other sauces. There was no one else in line they made me feel as if I was taking their time , her time ... I could had order a drink too .. The place was not busy at all . The empanadas were nothing special. Came at 8 am, plenty of parking and no lines. However, took a while to get my order... not sure why! The empanadas were ready, and I ordered to go. Oh well. They had a good deal by the dozen so I got the flavors I knew I'd like: ropa vieja, chicken, etc. Came with sauces and I picked creamy cilantro and chimichurri. Took the box home. The dough wasn't too thick or undercooked. and all the fillings were flavorful. My favorite was beef that kind of remind me of Cuban picadillo' flavor. Not sure about the drinks but saw a few people having them with coffee and juices; the place looks clean and roomie. read more

I recommend everyone try this spot at least once! There can be a bit of a line but it is worth the wait. I was lucky enough to make it before a rush so I only had 2 people ahead of me. I tried a handful of their empanadas, a Obra ball, and an iced coffee. Both me and my mom were fans of all the empanadas, especially the chicken and bbq pork options, and I very much enjoyed the potato (Obra) ball. The coffee was average so I wouldn't get that again but I would gladly go back for their food! read more
Came across this bakery on Yelp and finally stopped by this weekend to pick up some empanadas. I ordered one beef & potato empanada, one sausage & potato empanada, a Cuban sandwich, a chocolate chip cookie, and a peach & dulce de leche turnover. The empanadas came with spicy mayo and green salsa. The spicy mayo wasn't spicy at all, but the empanadas themselves were very flavorful. The Cuban sandwich was out of this world; easily one of the best I've ever had. It was absolutely delicious, and the oven-roasted pork was juicy and tender. Very nice staff with plenty of indoor seating. No wait on a Saturday afternoon and plenty of parking. They were running out of everything by 4pm so come earlier. Fantastic potato balls that were better and bigger than Porto's. Just as crispy on the outside and the inside was seasoned well, including the potato. Both chicken and beef were great and I'd recommend both. The empanadas were unfortunately a little too dry and bland in comparison. I wouldn't recommend them. Their chimichurri sauce was also bland. Definitely would just order a bunch of the potato balls and die satisfied. read more
OBRA just opened their second location in the Costa Mesa area, and I stopped by on a Sunday morning around 10am to check it out, specifically for their empanadas. There was a line when we arrived, which is always a good sign, but it moved quickly, about 5 to 7 minutes tops, and the food came out just as fast. The service felt efficient and well organized, especially for a busy weekend morning. We ordered the traditional beef and the sausage empanadas, their best sellers, and neither disappointed. Each one was packed to the brim with flavorful, perfectly seasoned filling. You can tell they do not skimp. Every bite was hearty and satisfying. The sauces served alongside were the perfect complement, adding just the right amount of tang and heat. Honestly, one empanada alone is surprisingly filling. I also could not resist ordering the platanos, fried plantains, which I had not had in years. One bite instantly brought me back. Saw this place in social media and just happened by it on my way back from the dentist, how appropriate! I wanted to try out so many things from the menu but settled with a Cuban sandwich, a beef and a ropa vieja empanada ans somw sweets. All to go and enjoy back at the office. The Cuban sandwich was good, haven't had one in a while. The beef empanada was good, the ropa vieja one a little dry and undercooked. The cookies were a little disappointing. Ordered a cuban empanada and a strawberry blintz pastry. The empanada crust was flaky with a generous amount of filling and well seasoned. The strawberry blintz pastry was flaky and buttery with a sweet and creamy filling. Service was quick and the staff is well mannered and eager to help. This was my first time coming here since I came here for the experience and made my purchase. Today, I got in my purchase was an iced matcha latte & red velvet cookie. The iced matcha latte was decent, delicious, and great flavor. I love my matcha sweet so I got another 3 pumps of vanilla. The red velvet cookie was soft, chewy, and great flavor. The employee was super nice and very friendly. She was very helpful and accommodating if we needed anything! The store has a great atmosphere, spacious, and clean. Loved how the place was spacious! My favorite thing I picked up was the chicken empanada as it was the most flavorful! Jalapeño and cheese empanada didn't have much flavoring. The Arnold Palmer was good. I would have loved the dulce de leche cookie but it felt a little dry. It did have a nice snickerdoodle taste but I wish the cookie was slightly more moist. read more
Beautiful presentation with branding right on the crust. Golden outer and perfectly balanced between filling and pastry. They were not dry. The sauces served with each of the jalapeno and chicken empanadas were perfectly paired. People compare it to Portos but I think this place has a different vibe. I bought an assortment of empanadas (ropa, jalapeño, sausage and potato, bbq pork, cuban), chicken and beef balls, banana nutella cigar, and a chocolate chip cookie for good measure. Empanadas and fried chicken and beef balls were fresh and had good flavor. The flavors were familiar-comfort food. The banana nutella cigar was sweet and full of nutella. Aside from the banana chips on top, didn't see any banana inside or maybe they crushed banana chips inside? Either way, I didn't get any banana flavor. The cookie was dense and PACKED full of mini chocolate chips (I'm not mad at it). Overall, I'd come again and try the other menu items. Give this place a try! read more
