Amazing place. Always love coming here! The food is 10/10 and there's always so many options. I've been here multiple times and every trip food wise is better and better. The grocery side of El Mercado is always impressive with a variety of items and things that you miss from Mexico! This trip we went with the ceviche bar and grabbed a couple of Togo containers with tostadas. Went to the taco spot off course the line was long but the Al Pastor tacos were great. Aguas Frescas always 10/10. And this trip we had the paletas and those were delicious as well. The icecream guy was also super nice and friendly! Los Mesquites Asados is still extremely good . You cannot beat food cooked on mesquite versus a flat top . You can't order Aracherra or Asada by the pound anymore , now you get little combo meals with 2 sides which is a bummer . You can't still order ribs a la carte & a whole chicken adobado for $12.99. I swear Market González in Costa Mesa hit me like a full epiphany the moment I walked in. It honestly feels like someone picked up the energy of a mercado in México and dropped it right into Orange County, but made it polished, modern, and fun without losing the soul. I grew up going to places like Northgate and loving them, but this took that feeling and turned it into a whole experience. It is the Northgate brand but elevated into something you honestly have to witness in person because the vibe is just different. Everything feels alive, colorful, loud, warm, delicious, and comforting all at once. You literally walk in thinking you're going to pick up a few groceries and suddenly you're having a whole afternoon with your family, eating, drinking, and walking around like you're in a plaza back home. One of my favorite surprises was the walk-in liquor store inside the market. It is literally its own little world tucked into the building, fully stocked and beautifully set up, and it instantly reminded me of the alcohol aisles in México where everything feels both accessible and curated. We walked in just to look around and the staff immediately offered us free samples. They didn't have to do that, but they did it with such generosity and genuine hospitality that I honestly felt touched. They have no idea how much that simple gesture made me feel at home. It felt personal, like they were proud of what they were offering and wanted you to enjoy it the way their own families would. That alone put them on another level for me. I've also eaten at a couple of the restaurants inside and the food really delivered. It is busy, but it's the good kind of busy where people are laughing, families are sharing tables, the cooks are working fast, and you can feel the movement around you. Honestly, just go with patience because the payoff is worth it. You can sit down with a plate of something bomb, get a drink, and soak up the atmosphere. Even with all the activity, the service is surprisingly fast and everyone seems to know exactly how to keep things flowing. And yes, they do have a bar in there which just completes the whole situation. Being able to grab a michelada or a cocktail inside a grocery store that feels like a Mexican food hall is honestly genius. The prices are mild to moderate, and honestly completely fair for what you're getting. You're not paying for a basic grocery store moment. You're paying for fresh food, a full experience, and products you don't usually find at a regular Northgate. That's something I really want to emphasize. They carry items that you just don't see anywhere else, from specialty pastries to unique hot foods to little touches that really remind you of home. It feels like they curated everything with love and intention, and any Mexican family walking in will feel that instantly. Parking looks intimidating for a whole two seconds, but don't let it fool you. People go in and out super fast, and both times I went I found parking with no problem. It's one of those situations where it looks hectic from far away, but once you're in the lot it's actually very organized and constantly moving. Definitely not the nightmare people assume when they see a popular spot. Honestly, Market González is family friendly, date friendly, brunch friendly, grocery run friendly, everything friendly. It's the kind of place where you bring your parents, your cousins, your kids, your partner, and everybody genuinely has a good time because there's something for everyone. The ambience is amazing. It's lively, full of music, full of aromas, and it hits you with nostalgia and excitement at the same time. I've only been twice and I'm already planning my next visit because it just has that pull. You leave thinking wow, that was such a good time. I can't express enough how much I love this place. It feels like a celebration of Mexican culture in a way that's modern but still authentic, and the fact that it's right here in Costa Mesa makes it even better. If you haven't been, go. I can't believe I just found out about this spot now! I walked in with my mouth open because I was amazed! There is so many different shops, bakeries, and food. The variety is amazing. Fresh tamales, tortilla, ceviche?! Say less!! Their meats selection is nice too. They have a food court with a ton of different food from tamales, tacos, birria, and even sushi haha. Just walking around was so nice. They even have a bar a ton of tables to sit at indoors. They have a patio as well with tons more tables! Tacos Los Guichos: pastor taco-delish, suadero taco-my fave, asada burrito-delish. The conchas from the pastry shop was great. Sushi El Sonaloense: grilled fish taco-good, grilled shrimp taco-wonderful!!! La Tamaleria: beef tamale-good, pork tamale- fantastic! Carnitas Don Miguel: carnitas-good, chicharones-good. I wanted to try so much more, but I'd have to run around the parking lot a few laps to work up more appetite, lol. Definitely coming back for ceviche, bionicos, churro, paletas and the chicken place! There are so many cute little food shops to choose from here at the Mercado! Wish they served chilaquiles all day though. I'll have to come in the morning to give it a shot. Bonus, you could also do your shopping after some delicious food. Fresh produce, carneceria, and other groceries to offer. I tried out the taco shop, and they had yummy tacos de al pastor, I ended up going back for seconds! Had a bite of the milanesa torta, and I would definitely get it next time! The ice cream, is just ice cream, nothing spectacular. The churros are so warm and soft, get the cajeta to accompany it with. Agua frescas are just so refreshing, especially the pumpkin agua fresca! This place is FANTASTIC! What fun! 1st many restaurants with delicious Mexican food! Apparently each restaurant is a mini version of a successful restaurant in Mexico! They have a fun, well stocked grocery store. Fresh produce; in house made tortillas; in house, fried to order churros, yummy; full bar. I could go on & on. Everyone in there is working so hard. Love this grocery store and they have a really good selection of premade foods both to eat there and to go! My favorite is the Aqua Fresca section - such a great variety and every one I have tried has been delicious! My kids love the Churro section - fresh churros made to order! I also like to get the ready made refried beans, pinto beans and guacamole. They have a great marsicos (seafood) section to buy to cook at home and they have other meats as well. I buy the carne asada (already marinated) and that cooks up so good on the grill. You can buy cilantro and onions and homemade tortillas here as well to recreate your own mini tacos! I love this place. I meet here on a weekly basis for some volunteer groups. I love the staff the environment- love the quality of the produce provided. Affordable price points - I understand this is a tough economy - HOWEVER I have heard the pricing can fluctuate between this gentrified version and other locations throughout traditionally lower socioeconomic areas - which is fine -- I get it - it's a nice flagship store - you're capitalizing on the nuances and novelty of it all- which again. Whatever -- I do however notice in the few weeks - as a regular weekly customer - the same exact items that I get have DROPPED IN QUALITY while simultaneously INCREASING IN PRICE!!! And we aren't talking about small cost of living increases - these are dabbling if not diving full fucking head first into price gouging. EG - my favorite Vanilla shake & mini churro combo that used to save me a dollar on if I buy the items individually ( I think it was $12-)15?) UP TO $17. No more mini churros. I don't even think I saw them on the menu anymore -- aka you're forced to pay for larger sizes and prices. . . Which one would think ok ... that's somewhat fine -- BUT NO. The smoothie I've been buying for over a year and a half now - ALMOST on a weekly basis - is so fucking WATERY. It's ricidiculous. It used to be so thick and cream and decadent. I've been wondering for the last month wtf is it a new employee -- has my shake been sitting here melting away the last 4-5 weeks? No. It's fresh off the blender and just thinner across the board. Such a shame. Same thing for my lovely Chicken Asado Verde Soup - WAS FUCKING AMAZING !!! And the price point was something like 32 ox for $12. I used to rant and rave with coworkers and friends that this soup is spectacular and although pricey at "$12" (for me) - I went it again over the months - and thought I want some delicious soup that taste like grandmas. I ordered it - I noticed the new slew of containers. Didn't think much. Glances at the prices - said I'll take the large - WHICH IS A NEW "family style" My $12 portion - SAME SIZE NOW - $32 (yes) THIRTY EFFING TWO DOLLARS. Call me a fat ass - but that CANNOT feed - maybe an Ethiopian or anorexic family - but for one moderately high BMI - American. Which I get everything is fucking super sized - but to see price points increase SIGNIFICANTLY - while decreasing quality - seems like a quick recipe for distaste that I hope whomever is managing the restaurant presto side of things - really advocates for the quality and fair price points that made this flag ship a store to love. I hate to bitch and moan - and I'm sure my volunteer group won't want to change our flexible situation - but I've began to notice people just bring outside food in - and have their meals with us. Which is fine - I might have to do the same - because come on - upping pricing. Lowering quality. It's like Matilda's father throwing sawdust in the engine. Be better. I love this Mercado. Super market and giant food court in one. Each stall specializes in something like churros, tamales, frescas, ice cream, tacos, birria, etc. there's even a bar to hang out. You can watch them make fresh tortillas. We took two laps around to get a feel for what we wanted and ordered from a few vendors. Pork tamales Chicken flautas plate Tacos - adobada, lengua, suadero Ceviche Chicken flautas were the worse out of all. It was pre fried and kept on the table under a heat lamp. I should have listened to my gut to not get it. But I'm a sucker for flautas. It was dried out and the tortilla tasted like rolled tacos. It wasn't deep fried at all. It was a combo and came with a side of rice and beans. The flautas had toppings like guacamole, lettuce and tomatoes. There's a big dining area by the bar. Some days there are live music. This Northgate Mercado in Costa Mesa is a grocery market and food hall. It really is a unique experience where there's several restaurants and sections for meat, seafood, dried chili's + beans, cheese, fresh produce, and freshly made tortillas. This is the first I've seen anything like it. Plus it's huge! However, there aren't any instructions, graphics, or people who could explain how to navigate the place. It's up to folks to figure it out themselves. There's sections there that sells pastries, churros, freshly made popsicles, chicharron, ceviche, salsa, guac, burritos, tacos, tortas, aqua fresca, and tamales. The prices are fair and the quality is excellent. There are some stations where you can try some samples. I came on a Sunday afternoon and it as extremely crowded. There was a seating area (indoor and outdoor) with life music. The tables fit larger parties, so I often saw one person hogging an entire table while others got the food/drinks. Seating was a mess and I had a terrible experience. When I went to find a seat after purchasing my food, I asked a family if they were about to leave - they said yes and let me have the table. There was a lady that said she had been waiting for 5 minutes (I was unaware there was an unspoken queue) and mentioned she was waiting for that table I had took (I saw her wandering around and not standing by that particular table). I offered to share the table, since my party was small - she refused and called me "disrespectful." This is not the fault of Northgate Mercado, but I want others to be aware that some customers can be very aggressive due to seating availability. Overall, this food hall / grocery market is very unique in concept. They offer exceptional service, high quality products, and diverse authentic Mexican food all in one place. Loved the atmosphere and food. Mariachi band added to the experience while eating delicious tacos and sopes. I also highly recommend the freshly made tortillas, champurrado, and churros made on site. Plenty of prepared food options including a restaurant, bar and outdoor seating. I tried their green chilaquiles from Las Cazuelas, they were ok. I had an horchata, wasn't a fan. This is an awesome place to go with a group of people, since everyone can choose different things to eat. It's a large grocery store that also has several different food options to choose from. Some items include: tamales, tacos, burritos, etc. Everything is freshly made and you can buy some items in bulk as well. I ended up buying a pack of tortillas and tamales to go home. To eat, they have a large outdoor space that has TVs and inside space to eat. On Fridays, they have a mariachi plating and people enjoy dancing and watching. They did a great job with this place because as soon as you enter you feel fully immersed in Mexican culture from the bakery to the churreria, to the aguas, the carinceria, fresh tortillas, guacamole, chicharrones, & the occassional mariachi band in the food court / plaza. It's like a mini city inside. This is a full Northgate market grocery store with a food hall. They offer dry goods like huarache sandals, mugs & handicrafts from Mexico. An entire section of piñatas & Mexican candy heaven. Breads, pastries, & cakes from the bakery are all so good. The tacos are good but the lines can get crazy at times. Churerria El Moro takes the cake at this location. Lines are out the door but they get the orders done quick. Churros with dulce de leche & a hot chocolate... divine! Mercado Gonzalez Northgate Market in Costa Mesa is one of my favorite international Market places. They have so much to offer. You'll find international goods that are hard to find anywhere else. Beautiful meat and fish departments. A great wine department. They have so many different Mexican traditional food kiosks, a Bakery, a large food court and so much more. They even have the Famous El Moro Churreria originally founded in Mexico City where they still have their only other location since 1935. The market place is vibrant, lively & filled with good energy. They even have a Live band sometime. Everyone is friendly and in a good mood. It is so much fun that you could spend several hours there and lose track of time. They have a large parking lot that fills up fast but there is lots of parking around. "Oh tequila I turn to you like a long lost friend I want to kiss my Mexican cousin once again" (Phish) San Diego, CA and Tijuana, Mexico are just 24 miles apart and if the border crossing isn't backed up, you can make the trip in under 20 minutes. Needless to say, the influence of Mexican culture in Southern California is enormous. Nothing illustrates this linkage better than the Mercado Gonzalez in Costa Mesa. When you walk into the massive store, check out what's immediately to your right. We saw literally thousands of bagged tortillas, and plenty of the bags were still warm. We also saw a work crew cranking out more and more of them. As you advance further into the store, you'll see a rainbow of gorgeous fruits and vegetables, tamales, tacos, huge bowls of freshly made salsa, piles of meats and seafoods, massive amounts of chile peppers and beans, a bakery, a food court, aisles and aisles of groceries and non-perishables, and clothing. I saw a very cool Lucha Libre T-shirt I wished I bought for my brother. We picked up a box of Mexican coffee, a La Costina salsa, El Yucateco Chile Habanero hot sauce, a La Moderna soup, two bags of cute Rocolino Mexican candy gummy bears for the grand kids, and a bag of Salsa Verde Tostitos we split at the airport. We paid just three pennies over $18 for all of that goodness. This fun visit was one of the most enjoyable stops on our trip to greater San Diego. read more

Came here a few days ago and it is a really neat place right when you walk in your greeted with a smell of fresh meat tortillas a view of a very open wide concept. It's like walking into an outdoor market but inside. It is parts store, part restaurant variety, part meat counter, part seafood counter, part juice counter, taco bar, alcohol bar.. and then there's a Panadería and there are delicious amazing fantastic churros. You can definitely spend quite a bit of time in this market and rightfully so. It is a one stop shop. The food I forgot the name of it but it's one of the taco counters. They have the street tacos there. I got some Carne Asada, Pollo, and Al Pastor. I had never had Al Pastor before but a lot of people were ordering it so I thought I would give it a try and let me tell you it was amazing. But that's not it. The Carne Asada and the Pollo tacos were also amazing so delicious and packed with meat.. I really do need to get better at taking pictures again because it's worth taking pictures of Well, on the next one, I will get better and I will definitely take pictures of the churro area too. read more

An ambitious food-market, foodie-hall in Cerritos with no less than twenty stalls ranging from food to adorable artisan candles. We didn't make it to every stall, but I'd say it was a pretty good effort! Started with Aguas Frescas Las Delicias. Best to grab one to sip while you shop. All very delicious, all VERY sweet. Mariscos El Pariente sells spectacular ceviches. Can't go wrong, but the Aguachile Verde is my fave so far. Guisados Las Cazuelas serves soft stews with sides, like the Costillas con Nopales, which are tangy and green. Highly recommend the Chicharron en Salsa Roja, full of fall-apart, skin-on pork. La Tapatia Birrieria sells the stuff by the pound. Stop by the tortilleria to pick up fresh flour tortillas and dinner is done. Pasteleria La Gonzalez is probably my least favorite stop. No regrets on the Flan, but the breads go stale too fast. Churros from Churreria El Moro are great, but they're best when eaten as fresh as possible so stick around after you order. The market itself has some pretty great take-home items as well, including a don't-leave-without-it Pan de Elote and containers of ready-made mole. What an amazing place. I tried almost everything in the food court starting with the shrimp ceviche, guacamole, tamales, pozole and birria. All so delicious. The employees were all so helpful and eager to answer any questions. We came back the following day to buy freshly made tortillas, mole paste and pan dulce. So proud to be Mexicano. I love picking up flowers from the Mercado González Northgate Market. They have a beautiful selection and they are always fresh. There is someone there to help with any questions regarding the flowers or to build your own bouquet. The price is fair and while you are there you can pick up a bite, do your grocery shopping and enjoy everything the market has to offer! read more

Wow, I cannot say enough good things. I loved the Mercado concept and every stand felt warm and inviting, and the lines moved quickly. I actually came here specifically for the churros at El Moro (I had been to the locations in Mexico City) and then stayed and ate my way through (tacos, tamales, conchas, chips and guacamole, agua frescas) and was so mad I couldn't eat more. There are plenty of items to purchase too, but I was traveling and couldn't carry the fresh foods home in my suitcase, otherwise I would have been tempted to buy more. Will definitely be coming back when I'm in the area again (and praying this concept comes to the Seattle area too!) read more

4 Stars in you're not Mexican, 4 or 5 stars if you are I think. This place is a perfectly good grocery store for everything that is needed for a Mexican cuisine but it doesn't have everything one would need to cook (in my case, a Chinese meal). But it's still much better than an Albertson's. The meat section is vast and have all the cuts you could ever need. I love the areas with all the candy, candles, handmade trinkets, very eye opening. Let's be honest, the only reason why most of the people are in here is for all the fresh food stalls. read more
