This review is for the Roma location (close to the Colosseum) that I don't see listed on Yelp. I…read morebooked a reservation online for a late lunch since it was Liberty Day. We anticipated crowds and a wait, but there was actually no wait at lunch time and there were actually quite a few open tables. That was a bit of a concern at first (because a line and crowd usually means the place is good), but as I saw (and smelled) food coming out my concerns dissipated! Unfortunately our waiter wasn't able to identify another customer's pasta dish for us, but it all worked out in the end because I ended up loving our choices. We got the carbonara, which was cheesy and tasty,...Everything you want a creamy pasta to be! Pasta is al dente, felt so fresh and if you're from America, you're gonna love this because I felt the difference immediately. The meatballs were soft and tasty. We loved the chicory and potatoes! Those potatoes were so good I would choose them over fries (omg so American I know). I got the Mimi's spritz, which tasted like a Aperol spritz. One of my favorite spritz's of the trip! It's true what they say about Italian ingredients, and the price point is great. I tried some of my friend's Italian soda called Chinotto Neri, it's like a cola but less sweet but still tasty and refreshing. Mimi is a dependable pasta spot, with plenty of menu options for pasta and beverages. If I had more time in Rome I would have certainly returned especially given that they have several locations in the city. Highly recommended!

We all ordered something different. I ordered an avocado toast and a caffè latte. The avocado toast was very flavorful from the bread as well as the avocado spread! The caffè latte was good too like most places in Italy where I have had coffee. The restaurant itself if comfortable with some cool artwork on the walls. This is a great place to try if you're in Trastevere however, there's so many good places to try here too it would be hard to choose where to go!

So, in a daring act of rebellion, we marched ourselves to Mammo, who has burgers, because sometimes you need a break from marinara and mozzarella and want to flirt with cholesterol in a different shape. He went full carnivore, ordering something with more meat than a Roman gladiator banquet. I, still blissfully meat-free, went for the Cacio e Pepe, because if I'm going to eat pasta in a burger place, I want it to feel ironic. Nestled right by the Tiber river where you can ponder life's big questions like is Uncle Tom technically cheating on Italian cuisine, or is he just evolving? Either way, 10/10. Would betray tradition again apparently.

Eating pizzas, pasta, dolci and drinking italian wine is great, there's no denying that. But once in a while, even when in the very centre of the Italian food empire, you just feel like something different! Smoke Ring is a new trendy american styled dinner with rustic interior and food court-ish styling. They play great american rock (Bruce Springsteen 'the Boss' is all over the place) and serve authentic pork and chicken BBQ with sides of coleslaw, baked beans and/or different sides of potato. All-in-all, this place is different but pretty good! Prices were also good - they basically charge by the rib or piece of chicken. What we ordered: Ribs, chicken thighs, wings and BBQ beans. Verdict: The Ribs were absolutely the best. HUGE and well smoked. They don't really need BBQ sauce, but it makes a good addition. The BBQ sauce is light and different but surprisingly tasty. The chicken was pretty decent. If you want chicken, it'll do the job just fine, but I'd focus on the ribs. The beans were very different, but also pretty good. I'd definitely come back here if I'm in Rome again.

As soon as we sat down, the waitress asked us what we wanted and she came back three times in the span of five minutes so I definitely wish I had more time to breathe and look at the really large menu. I got the vegan sandwich and it actually blew my mind that it was vegan. The cuts of meat were so realistic and the vegan Parm also tasted so close to the original. Altogether, if you had just gave me the sandwich and I was eating it I wouldn't have even questioned that it was vegan. The sandwiches here are so delicious, I would definitely come back.
