I found myself in the position of needing engine repairs on a 2016 Jeep Wrangler before I could renew my tags. In the past, I've been fortunate to have a good mechanic to visit. But needing more detailed engine work, I had to search for an auto shop that could take on these specialized repairs, since my go to mechanic did not. I first visited an auto shop in Apache Junction that tried to sell me 3K in parts that I didn't need. In the end, prior to me pulling my Jeep they were still taking me for 1400 in camshafts that were never needed and who knows how much in associated labor. I was uncomfortable with the games and called around for another option. I was not charged when they put my Jeep back together and I had something to compare my next option against when I moved on. I found the best option was Mercie J Auto Care. Let me start by saying Adele is extremely personable. I explained my situation and her immediate response was, "Jill, you are the prime candidate for the VVRP program." I had never heard of this program. She let me know where to apply once I fail emissions. I took my car that day, failed emissions and was approved in minutes for the $900.00 credit towards my engine repairs. When I received my estimate, Adele advised what a small difference it was to do both sides at once. I fought the idea, questioned how it could be a small difference when the camshafts alone at the previous shop were $1400.00 per side. She said, "Why in the world are they selling you camshafts? Your camshafts are fine, you don't need new camshafts." Apparently, the labor was roughly the same either way and the part was under $100.00 difference. I prefer not to fix what is not broke, but also prefer not to be hit with 5k in engine repairs again anytime soon. So, I agreed to the difference. They were not doing the exact same repairs as the first shop recommended, but I am confident Mercie J Auto Care did the correct repairs. Especially since what they recommended from the beginning matched what the competitor found during a deep dive. Mercie J didn't need a deep dive, they knew what the issue was from the start with no input from me. I am very happy with the service, the advice that saved me money, and the great mechanics. My car ran great as I drove it home. Felt like it had more power to it almost. I feel comfortable my Jeep will last me a couple more years or however long I choose to hold on to it, and out of pocket was more than $1500.00 less than the first shop's final price. But wanted to give them an extra shout out as yesterday I took my auto in without an appointment and they were able to look at and fix as I needed my care the next day. That was good but even better they fixed what I needed and get this did not charge me anything!!!! While it was not a big job it still had to be done and No Charge quite unheard of these days. I've been using Mercie J Auto Care for a long time - back when it was just called Rick Smith Auto Care. They've always done good work for a good price. I moved out to CA a few years ago, but I still stop by for routine maintenance when I drive out to visit family. I really appreciate how the office staff called me and kept me in the loop throughout the work being done. Also, the technicians were very good about not being pushy with recommendations - if they see something wrong or recommend routine maintenance there's no hard feelings if you say "no thanks". Unlike most shops, I fully trust Mercie J Auto with any of my car needs. When we moved to Mesa, we needed to find a car repair shop. We tried 2 other companies that came highly recommended to us before Mercie J. I'm not car savvy and my husband can pick up car repairs but we don't have the experience to know what things should cost, what issues are easy fixes, what fixes are vital vs cosmetic, etc. My father on the other hand has all this experience but lives farther away so I would call and check with him on what fixes needed to be done and what they should cost. After the 2 precious companies tried to price gouge us or trick us into doing extensive repairs that weren't necessary, we decided to try Mercie J based off a friends recommendation. Anytime I called my father to get his expertise on the prices we were given from Mercie J, he would either be shocked at the deal we were getting or they would be market-value repairs. We have never been up-sold, they are always honest on what repairs are needed vs which can wait, and they have the most friendly and good-natured staff. One situation that happened a few years into using them has made me a forever customer. One of the repairs that we needed done was time consuming and was going to cost a few hundred dollars, which was the going rate for that repair because of the time that it would require. However, when talking with Mercie J about the repair, they explained all of this and instead of just telling us "it is what it is", they offered to order in the relatively cheap parts we needed and walk my husband through how to do the repair himself. A YouTube video, 2 parts, a few calls, and a couple of hours later, my husband had done the easy (yet time consuming) fix and we saved around $500. They could have not told us all of this and just had us pay them to do it, but that's not the type of company they are. They are honest, family-oriented, and truly there to serve their customers. I've been using these guys for years and they are amazing! The office team knows me by sight, they know my kids and always take the time to say hi to them. I had to get my car worked on and I didn't have a ride so I was chilling in the office with my kids. The lady at the front desk gave my kids some toy cars they had painted white and crayons so the kids could decorate their own car. It was amazing. I've never seen my kids so excited to go to a mechanic. There was one time that they did mess up when I went to get my brakes fixed. It caused me to steadily lose breaking power. Not good, but when I let them know they bent over backwards to fix that issue and make it right for me. THey covered some future work and I'll definitely keep going back. read more

They took my money and then bragged they didn't inspect certain parts because they don't usually work on bmws and thought it was too much work. Warning: Their Old alignment machine may Not be able to do a 4-wheel alignment on a sports car. Technically, I didn't actually get any service here. I'm just documenting my experience. Went in for a 4-wheel alignment, and 4.5 hrs after dropping it off, I get a call telling me that their old alignment machine can only do a 2-wheel alignment because my stock Nissan 350z is too low. I REALLY wish they had warned me about this possibility in advance. Pros: Seems like very nice people working there. Free fast Wifi in waiting room. They have a free shuttle service, but it involves using Your car. Neutral / FYI : They needed to keep my car for about 7 hours to do an alignment, which should only take about an hour. I was willing to wait a couple of hours, but that wasn't an option. No free estimates -- $30 to look at your car. Check for squeaking noise costs $99 Cons: Mercie J Auto Care will Not use parts that I buy elsewhere (often at a much lower cost than what most shops charge). read more

After having some truly horrendous experiences at some other auto repair shops in town, I was so very wary and anxious about bringing my car to a new repair shop, it was beyond amusing. Not only was their receptionist patient, warm and knowledgeable, after my car was repaired (absolutely correctly I might add), the owner came out and answered my myriad of questions. He also accompanied me on the test drive and explained all about the testing procedures that had been used on the vehicle. At the risk of sounding repetitive, I still have to say......I couldn't have asked for anything more. Went to Mercie J to have them check out my battery. I have gone to Mercie J a few times. They even replaced a battery for me back in August 2014. The only reason I went back again about a year later is because the local Nissan dealer when he was doing some routine maintenance tried to convince me that my battery failed his test, and that I need to consider replacing it. I never experienced any concern since August 2014 with battery performance. My car was running fine. I called Mercie J and asked them to check my battery. When they tested it, there was no issue. This leads me to believe one of two things or both: 1) The Nissan dealer has technicians and mechanics who lack appropriate skills or training 2) The Nissan dealer is trying to hit me up for "money" I will tell you that Mercie J is fair, honest, and very transparent in their dealings, and they are ready to explain to you what is up (even if it is not good news). Given this, I definitely will recommend Mercie J and Rick's crew to anybody who needs a good mechanic and car service, and not a dealer. Go here if you want good, honest, work. Brought my 2000 Monte Carlo there for diagnosis and repair. i didn't know if it was a wheel bearing or the CV joint. They test drove it with me in the car. The right inner CV joint was gone. Worst Experience Ever!!!! If I could give this place a negative star I would . Took my vehicle over for assistance with passing an emissions test and they refused to provide any estimates Or pricing over the phone... should of known ...first red flag ... we arrive and drop off my vehicle spoke to Michelle at the time of drop off and she never mentions cost of anything after requesting this information several times. Received a call from Michelle later that day who quoted over 3,000.00 for repairs but would not provide a price break down of parts, labor , taxes and any other fees for each part that they claim needs to be repaired on my vehicle .This is one of the worst shops due to lack of transparency.. standard business practices and lack of customer service. Left my car overnight and prior to arriving I called the shop to get a price estimate to fix the radiator fan that they claim needs to be replaced. Spoke to Michelle again and still wouldn't provide a price breakdown of cost, labor or taxes over the phone or in person. Picked up my vehicle and they still wouldn't give me a proper quote then tried to charge me $150.00 for a diagnostic even though no actual work has been done on the vehicle.. nor was a diagnostic ever discussed at the time the appointment was made... Nor does the $150.00 go towards the cost of repairs. Then upon explaining to the owner, Rick that his employee did not properly inform me of the cost of the diagnostic over the phone or in person. Then he proceeds to claim that we are lying and states we need to just part ways and never come back to his shop if we don't agree to pay his $150.00 fee. Rick didn't even negotiate lowering the diagnostic fee considering that his employee is incompetent and did not properly advise me of the cost that I was to incur. I would have gladly paid a reduced amount since no actual work was done on the vehicle as we initially intended. Not worth your time or money... Run far away.... Just go somewhere else where they actually will be professional and upfront with you about cost. read more

Yes, take your business here. Yesterday I called to inquire about having my "check engine" light diagnosed. Within ONE HOUR my car was in their care and I was back home, having been brought back in their courtesy vehicle. Great customer service, very kind people in the front office. In a short time, I received a text with a link to a detailed report of their findings. There was no pressure for me to instantly agree to the work, giving me the night to consider my options. Well, today I received a phone call that the worst of the engine problem was RESOLVED by the owner, Rick Smith, and my bill will be a fraction of what was anticipated. Oh happy day! A little pricey but we have gone here several times with good results, however, not so much lately. Had a constant error on my vehicle they could not diagnose; about 3 months later our water pump went out after they replaced it just under 3 years ago. They were charging full price again until I questioned the warranty and found out it had a lifetime warranty on it. They only reduced the cost of the part for us - still had to pay all of the labor and other ancillary items again. I felt like the part and labor should go hand-in-hand and they should have offered me a discount on the labor at the very least for having to go through this again so soon, not to mention all the business we have taken there with multiple vehicles. read more

Unbelievable service!! This is the first time I have ever completely trusted an auto repair company. I tried them out for just a simple oil change. They were very thorough and asked me some basic questions about the vehicle. They informed me that my rear brake pads were down to 1 mm. Two weeks later I received a call from John asking if I still wanted to have the brakes replaced. He also mention a concern that I had briefly described about my suspension during my first visit. I have never received a follow up call after an oil change! I returned my vehicle the next week. They replaced my rear brake pads and did a thorough inspection of my suspension. They made some longer term suggestions and also tightened up my quick disconnect links with lock-tight. I will never take my vehicle anywhere else!! read more
