We've been going to Mercier's for years! So much love for them - especially with all of their efforts with keeping customers and staff safe. Going into the market with the mask requirement is refreshing because it seems that masks are optional in most other stores in Blue Ridge (could this be the reason that the COVID numbers have been going up in Fannin County?) Thank you Mercier's for being diligent, and give your employees a nice pat on the back for being customer-centric and welcoming! There are so many goodies to choose from there, but we have our go-to's: Their chicken salad is awesome (we usually buy 2 large containers), we always buy their hot spicy pickled okra (but they've been out for a few weeks lately), and last but NOT least - their apple cinnamon bread. Whoa! Their apples are amazing, and I love to keep an eye on their rotating harvest for my favorites. I can't wait until their Pink Lady apples are available! I also love to just walk around and check out their shopping areas - the kitchen area, canned goods, toy section, and the section for pet goodies are awesome. Don't forget that you can order gift boxes directly from the store or from their website - you can create awesome gift boxes for family and friends! And one more thing... when you go there, plan for a little extra time and walk down around the little pond. It's peaceful and especially beautiful if you're there around sunset. I went in the beginning of October and the weather was really nice for Apple picking. I think it's very reasonably prized ($5 per person). And each got a little bag for Apple. I think you can purchase a bigger bag if you are interested in taking more apples home. There was also a cute pumpkin patch. The Apple picking was fun. It was my first time and people working there were extremely helpful. We also had breakfast buffet there. To be honest we were not that impressed. The bacon was too salty and I think it's only worthy if you can eat a lot or really want to try everything. Otherwise, stick with the menu. I really like their store. We bought a bunch of Apple butter and pancake powder home. I don't really like sweet that much but the Apple butter and Apple donut are so delicious. We were camping near by and Apple donut with coffee is so good in the morning! Their Apple cider is also one of the best I've had. It has a nice Apple flavor but not overly sweet. read more

Lots of fresh apples and produce and other delicious edibles. The fresh baked pies are indescribable delicious and come in a large variety of fruits grown right there on the farms. Fast friendly service. The store is well stocked and clean. We had been to several orchards in the area, but none are as good or can compare with variety of merchandise that Merceir offers. Lost of parking and you can go get your car and pick up your purchases at the door. Great place to shop and visit. Highly recommend it. read more

While we didn't go during the best time of year, it's a fun place to grab fried pies (homemade Hostess fruit pies essentially) and find some unique items. Certainly touristy, but not gawdy. I had a great breakfast here about a year ago with a group of guys on a road trip. We sat in an old bank vault, which made for a fun atmosphere for a group of bankers. They serve house made jellies and complimentary apple donuts were brought to the table. Very high quality breakfast. I came back with my wife for lunch and had good quality food for the price point. Mercier Orchards is amazing, and we only experienced 1/3 of it! We didn't venture into the surrounding orchard or the cafe, but we did go into the store and were so appreciative that they were requiring everyone to wear face masks, hand sanitizer was available at the entrance, and there were markings on the floor to remind shoppers to stay within 6' of each other. We picked up some fried apple pies, regular pies, apple fritters, and an assortment of honeys and jams, as well as a bag of peaches. Everything was so fresh, we gobbled all of the fried pies almost as soon as we got home! They were delicious. My favorite was the no sugar added apple pie, because I don't love super sweet desserts, but the strawberry and peach were also yummy. Definitely money well spent. Thank you, Mercier, for being such a responsible, friendly, and high quality business! We hope to be able to come back in the future to experience the orchard and cafe. read more

Wow- this is my 200th review . I've been making annual visits to Mercer Orchards in the late fall for specific varieties of apples . That's 3 - 4 hour round trip and gas but then the apples are soooo worth it. My apples are later season harvests and they are not found in grocery stores. I've tried local farmers markets and they just didn't do the trick. Mercies carrys freshly picked apples .., usually about a dozen varieties. There are 3 bag sizes: 1/2 peck ($6), peck ($12) and 1/2 bushel i$19). Depends on the variety but a 1/2 peck has about a dozen good size apples. I buy at least a couple bags of 1/2 bushel. These apples are a big hit with my family during Thanksgiving and everyone at the office. I've noticed that their prices goes up by a $1/bag each year. You can buy pre-packed bags of one variety and also select your own mixed varieties of half peck and peck bags. Besides apples, theres a lot to do here. It keeps getting bigger and bigger each year. *Restaurant - to the right of the entrance is always packed with people and serves Boarshead meat sammies *Bakery - next to the restaurant - expensive sugary fritters and fried pies... always long lines *In the back, "Apple Tasting" will help you figure out what varieties you like *Adjacently, there's "Cider and slush tasting" * washing and packing area - employees only but is glassed so you can watch * General store area is packed with apples, cake donuts, jams, jellies, honey, produce, pickled veggies, frozen foods, gifts and gadgets. They make it easy to spend your $$. * Shipping assistant in the far left side of the store * Happy room - left of the cashiers - 21+ yrs only for ciders and wine tasting (4 varieties = $6), cider tours ($20) and purchases. Their prices are on touristy side (apple fritter $4) similar to other orchards in the area. There are restrooms just past the bakery. Outside, they have U pick apples ( not all varieties ) and lots of parking. I found a space in front of the store with just a few minutes of wait. But it's tight on weekends. In this rating- I am just reviewing the store and the bakery. Facilities were great- even if there were signs everywhere saying they were understaffed. Also, staff was awesome. We tried the deep-fried pies and apple cider donuts. Donuts weren't fresh but were pretty good! The deep-fried pies were and SO good. So far, have had peach and pecan. Totally recommending this place and driving out to get a box of these. Some of the stuff in the store - was sourced from somewhere else though like a lot of country stores are now. (If you need something closer for teas, etc just go to World Market) but the bakery you can not duplicate. Also, fresh pork rinds from the Kettle Corn stand didn't make it home -- delicious! read more

This place is AMAZING! We popped in real quick at the start of our vacation and I grabbed a peach pie to try. I split it with my brother and we were both blown away at how delicious it was. We couldn't stop talking about how fresh and juicy the peaches tasted. We walked m around with the dogs for a little while and admired the scenery. Unfortunately we came at a time of the year when nothing was available for U-pick but we were short on time anyway. I bought a bag of pink lady apples, $7 for a huge bag and they're super crunchy and juicy! I also tried the sparkling apple cider which was sweet and delicious. Soooo we stopped by again on our drive back home to south Florida. This time we loaded up! I bought a whole frozen peach pie and a mix of apple and peach hand pies, apple butter, a gallon of fresh frozen apple cider (if I had room in my freezer, I would've bought more!), a half gallon of pasteurized cider for my mom, and a half gallon of freshly picked strawberries. My brother bought a dozen hand pies, honey, and more apple-y goodness. The prices are great! We absolutely LOVED the orchards and we can't wait to go back on our next trip up north! read more

My friend and I came here near the apple picking season so unfortunately there were no more apples to pick. We ended up just shopping and tasting apples in the shop and walked around their property. I liked how much stuff they have in their store like baked goods, honey, jam, apples and produce like sweet potatoes. I got to try some apples that I've never seen at the stores which was really cool and ended up filling a small bag of mix-n-match apples ($6.99). I also tried their fried apple pie and bought some apple cider donuts to go. I liked that the apple pie filling wasn't super sweet but thought it would be more delicious if they could heat it up for you (or heat it up yourself when you get home). I also enjoyed the donuts, but I'm not a fan that there's trans fat in this. Overall, the market was really clean and organized. I'd love to come back here to do some apple picking next year! read more

My family and I have been shopping with this orchard for decades but we will never shade their doorstep again. This is a must place to visit if you are in Blue Ridge!! There is plenty to do with the family, your friends or a fun day date! The Orchard is large and sells all types of jams, salsas, Honey and more. They have tons of fresh baked goods that you can enjoy there or take with you. Their extensive selection of Apple Butter is impressive. I always make sure to grab a jar while I'm there! I also really like their Peach Salsa and do does my husband. This is huge because he does not like anything:). They have a small selection of cheeses, crackers and meats. The Honey is to die and it a must!!! They offer apples for purchase or during the apple season you can go on an apple picking tour. The apple picking is $10 and you are provided a bag that you fill with apples to take home!!! They also have pumpkin and strawberry picking. Both are seasonal and you would need to look for when this is offered, but it's totally worth it! They have ciders, which can be purchased individually or by flight. The ciders range from a very sweet apple taste to slightly more bitter or more traditional cider. They have a lovely patio for you to enjoy when the weather is nice. Overall, I highly recommend visiting when in Blue Ridge!!! read more

Pies. Really, that should be the first and last word in any discussion of Mercier Orchards. When you walk in the front door you'll be bombarded by a ton of kitschy apple themed merchandise, jams, ciders and assorted condiments. Ignore all of that and make an immediate right turn past the main entrance. If you've followed my instructions you'll find yourself in a bakery room filled with pie cases. Warning: the delicious aroma of baked goods might be overwhelming. You'll want to clutch the nearest rack of tacky merchandise if you begin to feel lightheaded. Better? Great! Upon further visual inspection you'll notice that every case is packed with hand-sized fried pies of every flavor imaginable. There are literally dozens and dozens of different kinds of pies ranging from your traditional apple or blackberry to the more exotic pineapple, apricot and coconut. Note that if a particular selection is labeled "cream pie" it will be served cold and contain cream cheese. You have the option of eating the other pies warm. You'll want to do this. One of the nice bakery workers behind the counter will pack up as many pies as your heart desires. Your heart will desire many pies. Here's another warning: you will be tempted to order extra pies to "take home" with you, or perhaps to "give as gifts". Despite your best intentions, you will eat these pies on the car ride home (if not before you leave the orchard). Therefore do not order any pies that you are not willing and able to consume on that particular day without wallowing in a sugar coma of self-loathing. There is also fudge in the bakery but you should ignore that, because fudge is not pie. If you heed this review and follow my advice to the word, you will have optimized your Mercier Orchards experience. Yes, there's a good chance the place will be filled beyond capacity with tourists. As part of my #Yelps10Firsts, we went apple picking as a family. I'd been to Mercier once before, though only to pick up already picked stuff, and I vaguely remember it being busy. That was an understatement. On the last Sunday of October, arriving around 1pm, the place was packed. They've got a new parking lot, and golf carts/ATV shuttles, and the crowd seems to do a decent job of policing themselves. What you might not notice is that the spots up front do open up... by the time that we got to the actual building, we noticed that there were 3 or 4 spots in front of it that were sitting unopened since people assumed that they needed to park in the lower area. Anyway, we got in line for the tractor to take us to the Self-Pick. It was $10 per bag, or $2 to just ride the tractor. After paying and signing the waiver, I believe we waited about 15 minutes to get on the tractor. There were signs EVERYWHERE warning that Yellow Jackets were active in the orchard. As we rode the tractor, they told us about the property, pointed out how close we were to N Carolina and Tennessee, warned us again about yellow jackets and what to do if you get stung, and told us which rows had which apples. Once stopped, we headed for the Yates apples, then worked our way around for the Fuji, Braeburn, and Pink Ladies. There were signs on about half of the rows telling you what they were, but some of the rows were pretty long... so you didn't always know which ones you were getting. Also, by this late in the season (apparently you can start picking in September), many of the apples left were above an average person's reach, or those left weren't quite ripe. Good thing we have an adventurous toddler who we could hoist and have grab them 1 at a time. When going for a Pink Lady, I managed to get a yellow jacket sting on my hand. We'd been carefully checking the apples as we put them in our plastic sacks, and steering the toddlers away from the piles of apples on the ground that had swarms of the insects on them, but apparently I missed. Fortunately, each tractor has a first aid kit equipped with Sting Away, and I had a vial applied to my sting in no time. We rode back to the building (you can hop on any tractor you want), and proceeded to get in line for pies. We got 2 blackberry, 2 peach, and 2 apple, as well as 2 cinnamon sugar cake doughnuts, then made our way to the check out line. The place was a mad house, and many of the shelves were bare. We didn't take the time to get juice or pie or jellies or even look at them. Just got in the lines and then headed outside. We walked down the embankment to sit at the picnic table by the pond. We highly recommend the apple and the doughnuts. So good! I would pass on the blackberry and peach in the future. It was a pretty good experience, and we'll be back, though we'll try to get there earlier in the day and the season next time. read more

I'd never picked any type of fruit before...okay, the snatch and grab as a kid at my neighbor's pear tree doesn't count, and it's a really fun experience with tons of apples to pick from, but picking a lovely day is half the reason to go. So we got in the car from Atlanta and about an hour and a half later we were pulling up in the Blue ridge mountains to pick apples from an Orchard! How cool is that?? Regardless of how much you love apples, you will be overwhelmed by the crowds and apples. We weren't prepared for the flag men waving us into the parking lot during the U pick times (weekends from 10 am to 4 pm), but after getting into the crowds, purchasing our bags, half pecks at $6, to take to the orchard (comfortably fits about 18 medium sized apples), we waited for the tractor to take us for a ride. You almost have to have a strategy in the Orchards. Don't go around eating every apple you pick (you can do so, if you choose). I suggest taking a bite, and then tossing it. If you like, grab a few good ones in your bag, and move on. Of course it took me about 45 minutes to follow that advice, and 4 apples later, I was stuffed! You never get the same spread of apples as they open different sections of the Orchards once the majority have been picked, but they do a good job of letting you know what's there on their website. If you're like me, you'll be amazed that there ARe 50 varieties of apples. My favorites were the Pink lady, fuji and suncrisp and if I lived near here, i'd visit every weekend. beyond what you pick, you can also spend a lot of time in the store and choose a variety of butters, syrups, jellies, and they have a bakery to get apple bread (fantastic), apple pie, fudge, etc. Don't leave without getting their Apple Cider...that's good stuff! Fantastic, informative and helpful staff, gorgeous area and an alternative fun day trip. Pretty cool place. A market for anything "apple" you could probably want: several varieties of apples (free samples in the back, cut fresh), jams, jellies, teas, pastries, ciders, vinegars, candied and caramel apples, hard cider, wines - and all kinds of gift shop type items. They also have a cafe, for sit-down meals and a tasting room for their wines, ciders, beer and juices (even slushies!). My only issue, was that most things were too expensive. There is plenty of parking though, and everything is spread out with plenty of room to maneuver a shopping cart. read more

Love love this place. Driving in, I was definitely taken aback by the beauty here. None of the orchards I've been to in the area are quite as pretty. The restaurant proved to be a great first stop. All of the food was really good. The potato salad is on point. The kids meals were fantastic. Would definitely recommend and the prices were not outrageous. Buying tickets to pick apples was rough. The credit card machine was down and we were sent to 3 different lines to pay. About 25 minutes later we were finally able to get to it. Their back up plans should be better with the amount of traffic they see. Not impressed with the customer service at all outside of the restaurant (customer service there was 100%). Apple picking was great. Macintosh apples were the BEST. They could definitely stand to provide more shade tents during the 100 degree days. When we were there early October people were fainting from heat exhaustion. They could do a little better job labeling the types of apples. The ends of the rows were labeled but something in the middle of the very long rows would have been helpful. The cider tasting room was great and the cider is tasty. Prices are reasonable as well. I definitely recommend this place. Not as much of the showy stuff to do with kids but we managed to spend most of the day here with little ones and everyone had a blast anyway. read more

If you are looking for the quintessential apple / berry picking experience that caters to tourists, this is a great place to go with the family. On a perfect Fall October weekend, we went at about 10:30am to pick some apples and maybe try some pies that they claim to be famous for. For $10 per bag, they take you out on a trailer to the orchards, explain all the different varieties of apples, encourage you to taste as you go, and fill your bag. There is a trailer every few minutes to bring you back when you are ready. The farm is very picturesque with rolling hills and a small pond. The apples and the staff are very nice. There is also a small picnic table out in the orchards selling water bottles for $1, and photos of the family. You can also pay extra to shoot apples out of these apple canons at some barrel targets. This seems like a good thing to do for the boys who are not interested in the pony rides. The "store" itself, is a tourist trap on steroids. It's huge, it's expensive, it has everything you would expect a "country store" to have and then some. There were about 4 lines 10 people deep each just waiting to order fried pies from the bakery. I was informed by the lady in front of me, that the baked pies are actually her favorite, but they only make them in apple and are off to the side. We got a dozen pies (which gets you a 10% discount), 2 baked apple, 10 fried (blackberry, blueberry, cherry, peach, and sweet potato). The pies are all very very good, although you can tell they specialize in apple IMO. I enjoyed the baked apple, as it wasn't as crispy of a shell as the fried and I liked that. There is also a wine/ hard cider tasting room off to the side that looks new. For $4 we did a 4 tasting flight of the hard ciders. Many of them are much drier than you normally find in cider, like super dry! The #3 is the most similar to traditional hard cider, and is therefore their best seller. I really liked it, but I also liked the grumpy granny cider as well. I like that you can taste before you buy that way you know what you like and don't end up with a large bottle of something you are not fond of. The line for the cash registers was insane, super long. Although to be fair, the entire place was packed to gills by noon. I swear half of Atlanta was there picking apples that weekend. If you plan to go on a busy October weekend, plan to get to Mercier before 10am before it gets insane. I hated every second I was there after noon, and just wanted OUT. read more
