I am writing this on behalf of my Father-In-Law, Ray who lived in Covina, CA and passed away on 9/15/24. He loved, loved, loved Mercury Insurance. We brought him home from the hospital and he was placed under Hospice Care. We took care of him and during a heatwave the air conditioner condensation line broke and leaked into his wall and floor. The adjustor called me because I had called to file the claim on behalf Ray. Even though I wasn't there at the time of the problem I did my best to provide him the information. He recorded my call and then immediately after the interview, he informed me that the claim would probably be denied because the problem had existed over two weeks and there is a policy exclusion. He did come out and look at the damage, but a few days later he called to tell us the claim was denied. In my opinion, Mercury took advantage that Ray had died and couldn't provide them first hand information. We lost Ray and Mercury refused to help us in our time of need. My house water damage , it was leak from the shower valve , toilet overflow and toilet flange leak. I did not file any claim for 6 years except for this sudden water leaks and overflow from toilets. I showed the photos of damaged wood which is completely submerged in water after my demolition but Mercury adjuster still denied my claim. Without any solid evidence the adjuster noted on the denial it appears the water damage was from 14 days ago. The adjuster are not sure . The adjuster sent the water damage consultant in my home and he told me the insurance should have repair this sudden damage and he showed me all the photos of water damage wood. Please do not do business with Mercury insurance, they will denied your valid water damage based on assumption only without any solid evidence, but I will proof this in court and I have right to do so and wanted to know the solid reason denial my case. If I could give them a 0 , I would. It is very rare the time I rate businesses low but i cannot look the other way and not share my experience. The email below is what I sent to a supervisor (Lisa Openshaw) - this is after the initial email that was sent to her (2-3 weeks ago) about their lack of professionalism and her statement was that the pandemic has impacted services . Excuses ! My payment to them has not lessen if anything it has increased . While I understand that perhaps the supervisor may have phone issues, there should always be another supervisor at hand to make those phone calls to customers or she should have emailed me with information. Quite frankly, it is just an excuse at this point. With regards to Alicia , as I have mentioned before she has fell short every step of the way so it is not surprising that she did not follow through in calling me. While I know I'm one customer of many the lack of customer service, the unprofessionalism of your staff and the overall experience makes me question whether I want to continue to give my money to an insurance that does not value customers. Mercury is not cheap by any means and as a result I should receive up to par services . First of all, your appraiser failed to show up to the shop, not once but twice . He had no regard for the shops time nor for mine. He also failed to call and keep me abreast of the situation. Per the shop, they Per the shop, they attempted to have multiple conversations with him about what was needed to approve the catalytic converter and there was 0 response from him. As a matter of fact, the day that I called Mercury upset, was the day that the shop had contact with him because he was there to inspect another car and he nonchalantly told them that it was denied and he was not going to consider payment. Not once did Alicia or the appraiser call me or sent me a denial letter indicating there was an issue with payment . If it wasn't for me calling the 1800 number , I wouldn't have even spoken to Alicia who was oblivious to anything that was happening to my car. She simply told she'd get a hold of the appraiser and call me back. Never did. When I called the 1800 number for the second time , the operator was combative and did not even want to send a message to a supervisor so that I could get my problem resolved. Better yet, she did not even want to provide me with her name for reference . I know that you have mentioned the pandemic impacting services and at this point perhaps customer service , but it definitely has NOT impacted the amount of money I pay to be insured . Regardless, customer service should be of your uppermost priority as this service is not free. As a customer there is so much leeway I am willing to give for everyone's lack of unprofessionalism and attentiveness to my car. I will be looking elsewhere for another insurance because I can . I hope your company is able to reflect because if my experience is status quo for Mercury with the excuse "we are in pandemic" then you will lose customers. There is 0 excuse at this point . You better believe i fought and spoke up to get those waived . It took a while but worked . I was a good customer with no accident report for a long time. I've got a car breakdown during my vacation and I'm looking first to just understand what my insurance cover. Had both car and home policies with company for years. Only two home claims made, but Mercury refused to pay out a dime, citing "Grey areas," and sending in rude, abusive adjusters. Gee thanks. Two car accidents, neither my fault, caused by one hit and run and another lowlife who refused to give a statement. Mercury clerks changing their stories and just jerking the customer around. Finding excuses not to refund a deductible when obviously not my fault. After being a diligent, loyal customer and being so mistreated, plus receiving a jacked up premium renewal, I dumped this lousy company. Had a good experience with Mercury following a car accident where vehicle was totalled. The process was quick and seamless UNTIL it was time to receive my payout. I was told they needed the title to process the payment. I was told a scanned copy was fine (which I thought was interesting). I sent a PDF copy a week ago. I followed up 3 days later. No movement. That is when I was told they need a hatd copy and they would send me a shipping label. 2 days later. No shipping label. I contact them again and offer to pay for the label myself as I have been without my own transportation for 2 weeks. I send it via FedEx overnight at my own expense, it arrives 1st thing in the morning, according to the tracking number. I was then told that it's in the mail room and my adjuster needs to wait to get a notification notification that is there before they can do anything? There is no reason why it has taken a week to get a check when the entire process of towing and assessing took less time. I have been a customer for nearly a decade and have NEVER filed a claim. I was in a small bumper collision on April 12th. I was assigned Briceidie Sobampo as my adjuster on April 13th and was told I would be contacted within 24 hours. I am a long term Mercury customer. Usually, I have no issues. However, they have this new billing scheme, where they charge you 2 payments up front. Hard to budget monthly when they do that. What an out-of-touch policy by the corporate headquarters. I'm sure I'm not the only person who doesn't like to pay a double payment one month and then smaller payments for the rest of the term. SCAMMERS They're dishonest and are using auto-pay to re-up policies at a higher rate without your consent. They never explain how auto-pay really works, even my agent didn't. And if you contact them about it, instead of trying to reach an amiable solution they will stonewall you... I didn't know this, but what auto pay actually does is authorize them to deduct from your bank account, not just for your monthly payments, but potentially for anything, and if they want to raise your rates or deduct more for any reason, all they have to do is send a notice out, and if you DON'T respond to the notice then they just go forward with the deductions. Usually you have to consent to this kind of thing in writing. So when our policy was about to expire, they sent a couple notices saying they would automatically renew our policy at a higher rate. I thought they were just the normal bill notices because I didn't know any of this was even possible, so we didn't reply. They then made deductions at the higher rate. And here's the KICKER. Instead of monthly payments, they changed it to 4 payments per year, at 2 month intervals... This is so they can collect their money ASAP before people realize what happened. Your bank can only refund things within a 60 day period... And if 4 payments per year, shouldn't it be every 3 months? Basically they're running a soft scam on people who opt-in on auto-pay. I'm never using auto pay for anything again. I contacted customer service at Mercury and spoke to supervisors, etc., they wouldn't budge and would rather keep their blood money rather than keep a customer. They probably did a cost vs. risk analysis and calculated that it's profitable to soft-scam people like this... read more

Don't get fooled by the lower quote. You get what you pay for. This is the worst insurance to deal with if you are ever making a claim. They keep the premiums low by making your life hell when you make a claim. Won't cover things and won't give you things you are owed unless you waste time, write them, argue with them and get an attorney involved. Not the right approach to keeping customers. So while this insurance company prides itself on lower premiums, this is at the expense of covering claims fully and without back and forth as they are required to. At the end of the day, upon making a claim, you will be out of pocket way more than what you saved on premiums. Really disappointing way of doing business. Not reputable and won't have your back as a paying customer given how much the concern is about saving the insurance company money. Buyer beware!! read more

I still see they only care about the $$$ not the customer of the person affected by one of their policy holders. 25 years ago they would not pay my $500 deductible. So I called the insurance commissioners office and they said they would send me a blue form to fill out, a complaint form. The woman said to tell Mercury what she was sending me. Wow! They sent my $500 deductible out that day. It seems that form puts a mark on Mercury with the State insurance board, and they do not want that. Such a shame to have to resort to things like that. I was involved in an accident where a driver pulled out of a parking lot into oncoming traffic.  I happened to be the oncoming traffic who was driving as the car pulled out of the parking lot which was connected by a driveway but hidden by street parking.  I can understand how the other driver who happened to be old might have had trouble seeing me, but nonetheless they were not cautious enough and caused a major collision.     The other party and their insurer admitted 100% fault and took 100% liability. Upon impact, my front right tire caught the other car's front left tire and I drove over the front left of the car, slamming down extremely hard.  There was noticeable damage to the exterior right bumper, fluid leaking from underneath my car, the front of the car sitting lower than normal, and then the warnings and lights in the car, "Check engine fluid", "Car is too low to drive", and the red sensor which means i am too close to an object.   I brought my car to my mechanic and they got to work fixing my car.  I called my mechanic after 4 weeks to check in, and they had told me that Mercury gave them a used part to fix the right suspension, and in fact it was broken, so they needed a new inspection to confirm the part was in fact faulty.  The part was and they shipped a new part.   During the time in between the faulty part and the new part being shipped, the left suspension started to leak.  The car hadn't been driven, and had been sitting in the shop for 4-5 weeks at this point.  A major finger pointing campaign ensued between Mercury and my mechanic.  Mercury claimed it was poor workmanship, whereas my mechanic stated they had never touched the left side, and the car overcompensating for the faulty equipment Mercury had provided, or just the accident in itself is to blame. Mercury has determined that my report of the story is untrue,  that there is no way my right tire could have caught the other driver's right tire, dirven over their wheel well and slammed on the ground, so in fact there is no way the accident could have caused the damage.  Even though The other driver corroborated my story and their insurer took fault, also corroborated my explanation of the events.  So, after 3 more weeks of arguing ensued Mercury finally sent a "specialist" of their choice to inspect the damage.  Their inspector determined that it wasn't the workmanship, and was wear and tear, but because Mercury MY INSURER doesn't believe my account of the accident, nor the collaboration, they are unwilling to pay for the replacement shock on the driver side. I am under the impression that the other driver had a lower coverage on their insurance, so their insurer *Enterprise won't cover the damage, so my insurer *Mercury doesn't want to pay for the damage, even though I pay them $325/month for this exact situation. I would either like Mercury to do the right thing and fix ALL the damage caused by this accident *WHICH IS WHAT I PAY YOU FOR, or let me out of my contract so I can find a company that I trust. This company sells Mechanical breakdown insurance thru Wescom Credit Union. Who knows where else. I have tried to file a claim with these guys and just little things and all they try and do is find an excuse not to cover the item. Mention the wrong thing on the exclusion list and it practically voids the whole claim. Petty items as well, anything to do with airbags are not covered. Stuff that you know would go wrong with a car like the annoying air bag light. I would highly not recommend this company they just want it added to the cars financing they get paid, but do not file a claim. Typical, shop around there are better ones out there. I thought I was doing business with a reputable carrier however I was completely wrong. I had my policy for automobile insurance for over five years with a few hiccups (claim for a no fault collision in the Summer of 2014 which cost Mercury $14,000+ and a claim for a new Carlite windshield) but other than that I have no moving violations & I'm a safe driver only to recently discover my policy is canceled when a certain dollar amount was not deducted from my bank account. I did not receive any documentation, a phone call, email, or any form of communication concerning my policy. It's extremely upsetting & unsettling if something were to happen to myself, someone else, my vehicle, etc. only to discover I have absolutely no coverage and now I'm up a creek without a paddle. I'm grateful that I have leverage to shop around and secure insurance through another carrier in as little as half a day with much better rates along with much better coverage. Customer service as well as adjuster(s) are yet to be determined but hopefully I won't have to utilize them. You work hard for your money and with times as tough as they are now why would/should you hand it over to anyone who doesn't value you as a customer? Zero rating. Our was vandalized in January and hear tomorrow got be April 1st and we just keep getting the run around. We had broken windows, broken fence and broken gate. They gave us a price of 700 dollars to fix everything. I had told them it wasn't enough and the adjuster said to get a quote from a contractor, which I did and now they are saying to take the 700 and there going to send me a General Contractor to look at the job which I am still waiting for. I gave them a Handiman that was advertising in the mail and that guy wanted $250 for the hrs work and they think a General is going to be cheaper. I don't know where they get their info from. There is pictures below, but it doesnt state the geico tittle and i called geico with this claim number and it was a fake claim number. Mercury lied to me the one time I actually used my policy. My pool pump died randomly and needed to be replaced quickly or the pool begins to grow algae. I had a local pool company come to diagnose the pump, he said it was seized and needed to be replaced. I told my Mercury rep and he said it would be covered and to go ahead an replace the pump while we wait for the claim to go through (1 month). I used our family's $1,500 vacation fund we had saved to pay for the pump knowing that we'd shortly get it back. Today i was called by the Mercury rep they stated they wouldnt be covering the pump when I started to inquire why he got confrontational and said they sent a letter. The ONE time I needed my policy that I pay every month for and they denied me. I will be disputing this. Stay away from this company. ***UPDATE*** I just wanted to reveal their trick they pull to attempt to save face. They will respond to people writing reviews here making it seem like they are willing to try and mitigate your complaint, all they do is repeat what you've already heard and say "sorry if this caused you frustration". I just found out that our agent in 2012 switched us from Mercury car insurance to California Automobile Insurance. I now realize that this is an inferior division of Mercury, and the rates were about $1000 more a year. Our current agent doesn't know why we were switched (and I don't recall why either) as our driving records are good... I hope to get some answers. Hope the previous salesperson wasn't trying to make their quota. I was a salesperson for 20 years. I know how it goes in sales. If you don't make your quotas, you're out. Our experience with Mercury has been a positive one until a few days ago... A customer service representative just replied to my message, but for some reason the message seems to have evaporated. I have had various companies provide my auto & home-owners insurance over the years. Mercury is, by far, the best. We went out of town for a few weeks and loaned our car to a friend for that duration. As they were coming to the airport to pick us up from this trip, while AT THE AIRPORT, they totaled the car. They were 150' away from us and were t-boned at an intersection. I didn't see the accident, and only knew something was wrong when they were late to pick us up. Our friend said they had the green light, the other driver said they did, the cops on scene had no idea, but the other car smashed into ours and shoved it up on the sidewalk. It didn't crack in half, but it was destroyed. The way Mercury determined the value of our car, they went one model year newer and looked in the want ads for used cars of the type we had (one year newer) with the same accessories. They took the most expensive one of those and said that's how much they'd give us. I figured one year newer, most expensive used one available, that seems fair. My wife says "But I just had an oil change, and the tires aren't that old." I figured that's kind of pushing it, they're already giving us the same payment as the most expensive one they could find, except newer, but she insisted. I sheepishly mentioned it to the Mercury rep. and they said "Oh, no problem. We'll add another $500 for the tires and oil change." I'd never heard of such behavior from an insurance company and naturally accepted the offer. I hate filing insurance claims. I'd rather pay for insurance and not use it. Using it means something bad has happened, but the Mercury folks made it painless. They were quick, responsive, and available. The whole claim process was no issue. Compared to other companies I've engaged, when somebody has struck me, Mercury was easily the best, & I've dealt with a half-dozen or more over the years. I also have my home-owners insurance with them. I've had three claims over the years, and things always go really well. They're more than fair, and importantly, the representative is always responsive and available. I currently work with a total of eight different insurance companies when you consider all the things I'm responsible for managing (my own & others), and Mercury is always the easiest to work with, hands down. Also, despite their great service and fairness with claims, they have some of, if not the lowest rates around. I'd use Mercury for everything I insure, but there are places and things they don't insure, hence the other companies. read more
