What can I say? Brunch here is the best DC meal I've had in months. We snagged a table on the patio, felt safely socially distanced, and enjoyed a thoughtful, delicious, and beautifully presented meal. To drink: espresso martini, milk punch. Both wonderfully well-rounded drinks, the flavor changing in your mouth as you taste it. I'm a sucker for exactly this type of good cocktail. To start: Egg arepas. I'm normally not the biggest appetizer person, but was convinced by my companion. Thank goodness I was. Think crispy outside, soft inside, super corn-y flavor (strong corn tasting tortillas are my weakness), and somehow a perfectly poached egg residing inside?? Served with a couple sauces-- one salsa, and one creamier sauce-- which perfectly complimented the corn and drippy yolk. To eat: Sourdough banana pancakes and baked eggs served with pan de yuca. Alright, let me start with these pancakes. They're huge (size of a dinner plate), you get 3, and they're smothered in dulce de leche. Pretty sure these have plantains in them too, and they're ridiculously good. We have pretty big appetites, and yet still had leftovers on this one. The baked eggs are served in a tomato, plantain, and eggplant sauce soooo of course grabbed my attention. Two perfectly poached eggs rest on top, and there's a couple delicious pan de yuca on the side. Really good. The bottom line: prices here are pretty standard for a DC brunch spot, but the size of portions and quality blows away most other options. 100% plan to return. They also have a cafe where you can grab carry out coffee (dulce de leche PSL anyone??), pastries, and breakfast/lunch items like tacos. We're sitting beside a Chartreuse-hued piano in this restaurant located in the heart of boutique hotel Yours Truly, DC. Starving so we order appetizers and entrees. We choose shrimp cocktail, cheese bites, a burger and Snapper. Overall, mixed. The cocktail was great with good size shrimp; the Snapper came with a vodka-yogurt sauce, Brussels sprouts, and miniature dumplings and was flavorful although the white fish wasn't much more than texture. I ordered the brisket tacos, the bacon egg and cheese tacos, the GIG, and the Bolinhos. Everything was absolutely amazing, the taste of each dish was perfect. My favorite out of the bunch was the brisket tacos, idk how they make their tortillas so perfect, but whew, they are perfect! I really liked that the brisket tacos were filled with brisket, cheese and beans! The GIG bagel had this jalapeño cilantro cream cheese, ALSO REALLY GOOD, especially with the chorizo! Mercy Me is under new management and I'm soooo impressed by the quality of the cuisine, the friendliness of the staff, the incredible wine and cocktail selection, and the trendy vibe you get from the moment you step inside. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and made excellent recommendations. The crab quesadillas were absolutely ridiculous and the ceviche was fresh and sooo tasty!!! I had the lomo saltado as my entree and it was probably the best lomo I've ever had. We went for a midday brunch and while we hoped for sun it was quite chilly on the patio especially since it was mostly shaded The menu was short and sweet. We ordered the baked eggs and the Pec sandwich. Both were so good! The baked eggs (aka shakshuka) were basically a flavorful bomb and the sandwich had a sauce that was creamy and rich. Gorgeous place on the inside, beautiful decor, cozy boho chic. We had a big table but weren't particularly demanding. Not sure what was going on but the service wasn't great. After sitting for 30 mins no one came, we had to find our server. We only got menus for half the table so had to grab our own. Water bottles on the table sat empty for a long time and only refilled upon request from us. We discovered that one half of the table ordered dinner while the other half didn't get to order. Had an amazing late night dinner and drinks. Just flew into DC this evening and after checking in to Yours Truly, I heard enticing clamor coming from Mercy Me. When I got to my room I quickly jumped on Resy and made a last minute reservation for 10:00 PM. We got there a little early and the hostess was kind enough to seat is early. Unfortunately, she sat us near the bathroom. Luckily, after voicing my concern our server, Leslie, sat us at a better situated table. Leslie made our night and I would go back just from her service. She was prompt, attentive (but not overbearing), and kind. She took our drink order and gave great recommendations. I got the Manhattan, and the smokiness of the drink added a complexity to the beverage that elevated it to the next level. I had done my homework and read up on the food. I was hoping they would have the calamari, but apparently it is no longer on the menu. But, they did have one of the best scallops I have eaten. We also got the Bacalaitos, which was another hit for the tastebuds. But the winner was the sofrito smash burger. Although it was $25.00 for a burger (a 25% increase from their online menu of $20, it was well worth it and I would come back again for that burger. They kindly swapped out our fries for Yucca Fries, which were amazing. Crispy but not oily. Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Reminded me of some amazing Yucca fries I had in Miami. Leslie, once again, on top of her game, knew we came in for our anniversary and offered us a choice of desserts. She recommended the churros, which I was hoping she would and it did not disappoint. I have had Churreria El Moro in Mexico City and these churros reminded me of the same. I am impressed by their food, service, and ambiance. Mercy Me is the new Southern American inspired all-day cafe from two D.C. power food couples- Timber Pizza's Daniela Moreira and Andrew Dana and Chef Johanna Hellrigl and her mixologist husband Micah Wilder. It's inside the newly opened Yours Truly Hotel in Foggy Bottom in Northwest D.C. They opened the cafe with their hearts. The first two days open they donated all the sales to Black Lives Matter. They sell a variety of items from pizza (gone within hours on the first day), pastries (some filled with guava), breakfast tacos (the egg and sweet corn taco is recommended), and coffee drinks (roasted with Baltimore roasted Ceremony Coffee). Had to knock this place off my list and it did not disappoint. For starters we had the Crispy Cheese Bites, Cubano Sliders, and Crispy Calamari. Each shareable was delicious and the portions so filling that one of us didn't make it to the entrees! The entree we did order was the Churrasco Steak. Chef's recommendation was medium, but it came to the table well. Nevertheless, the steak was delicious. Well done, but still juicy. The chimichurri was the perfect accompaniment. The flavor and the heat was balanced and not overbearing. Topped off with the broccolini and the salad dressed in the stellar vinaigrette...sensational! For the quality of food, and our star of a waiter, I felt like our damage of a little over $100 was a bit of a low-ball. Went to Mercy Me for dinner and drinks and had an amazing time. The 4 stars are for the food and drink and the lack of star is for the timeliness of service. Also, I find it super annoying when a restaurant puts like 3 buns on a plate for an app and we are a party of 4 and they don't add an extra. I'll pay for it, but just don't make me split 3 sliders across 4 people. The adamantly wouldn't do that here and I'm not a huge fan. Also, they seemed to be having some issues because the service was very slow and they brought things to the table that weren't ours. However, the food and drink here were great! For apps we had the tostadas, Cuban sliders, yucca fries, and bocalaitos (the salt cod fritters). The fritters were the best thing we ate, so good. The sliders and tostadas came 3 to an order which was annoying. The tostadas were tasty, but other things were better where I wouldn't order them again. For mains we had the pork chop and mole chicken. Neither plate had veggies and we were kind of missing something green on the plate. My dinner companies said the pork chop was good (I didn't try it) but the mole chicken was very good. The plate was strange. They include a cheese-stuffed arepa that was very dry, a halved chicken thigh (no sauce), and then a serving of chicken chunks tossed in the mole sauce. The sauce was so good and the chicken inside the sauce was tender. I wasn't a fan of the chicken on the side. It was tasty. But a little dry. For drinks we had the colada (awesome), daiquiri (awesome), Manhattan (worth the cost), old fashioned (standard) and the gin & tonic (average at best). This cafe is so beautifully designed!! The interior decor is so bright and warm. The restaurant owners did such a great job with all the furniture as well. The sofas seem so welcoming! I have tried the Special SEC sandwich, as well as the pan de yuca. The sandwich was so unique with the maple syrup to contrast savory chicken sausage. The pan de yuca was delicious!! Our friends were staying in this hotel, so this place was an easy choice for getting together for a few drinks. I think the menu provided most everything people expected to find as far as that goes. But I'm not much of a drinker and I was ready for dessert. Im was bummed to find they had absolutely no chocolate on the menu. So instead I went for their blueberry cheesecake and a scoop of strawberry ice cream. I can't say I was too crazy about the cake. And while the scoop of ice cream was quite small, it was also delicious. So that was something. Service can be spotty and they are specific about what they will and won't do with shared checks. It's a shame this place isn't better for having such a beautiful space. I came in with a friend for drinks a couple times. They charge craft cocktail prices for drinks that are batch-mixed in advance to be way too sweet, can't be altered to taste or preference, and the bartenders are unfamiliar with how to make even the classic cocktails. My most recent visit, we wanted to sit in the cute lounge seats up front (the weather was so nice and we wanted to be near a window), but the hostess said we could only sit at the bar and that she would let us know as soon as the lounge was open. About 15 minutes after that, multiple groups came in and were sat in those lounge seats by the windows, yet the hostess never told us we could move. When I went back to ask, she was really unfriendly. We also had to get a manager to help the bartender fix drinks that were made incorrectly. I have now dined at Mercy Me for breakfast and dinner, and I am glad to have such a solid all-day option in the West End area. For breakfast, I had the salted caramel latte and the sourdough banana pancakes. The latte never disappoints! The sourdough pancakes were pretty good, but I was expecting them to actually incorporate the bananas into the batter; there were just a few slices on top. Also, I would have liked if the caramel were saltier to balance out all the sweetness. I came by for dinner recently, and the drink menu is very comprehensive. I got the South American Gin & Tonic. It was essentially a blood Orange G&T. It was balanced and refreshing. For an entree, I did 2 "small-ish" plates: a salad with cilantro and the tenderloin skewers. For the price, I expected the skewers to be a little bit bigger, but everything was delicious. I love the ambiance at Mercy Me, both for breakfast and dinner. Sometimes the kitchen gets slammed, so it can take a little while for food to come out, but everyone working there is always very friendly even when it is crowded. Overall, Mercy Me is a great option any time of day. The food does not blow me away so much that I would plan a trip around it (usually what I consider 5 stars), but I think you'll be able to reliably find something you like there. read more

We ordered the cod fish fritters. They were more doughy than I would have liked but they were flavorful. Came here on a Saturday with a 6pm reservation. We arrived about 10 minutes early and were able to get a seat right away. Even though we had a reservation, and the restaurant was pretty empty, the only available 2-top seats were the couches in the front. We asked if we could sit at an actual table, but the hostess declined saying that all the tables were already reserved. The seats we ended up sitting at had a very low table so it strained my back having to eat like that. That being said, the service was fast and the food was good. I got the calamari and Churrasco Steak, they were both good but the yucca hashbrown that came with my steak was a bit salty. My friend and I got the Mercy Mule and the Kick Ass Colada. Both were tasty and pretty strong. I've heard great things about the brunch here, but there are many more amazing options in DC for dinner. My travel party consists of a vegan (me) and someone with a gluten intolerance. We decided to come here because we saw multiple appetizing options on their website. We got here only to find out that their menu only consists of maybe 12 food options and most of what is on their website isn't actually available, including most of the vegan and gluten free options. Why have them on your website if you don't even offer them? This is very misleading and frustrating. The staff here is also rude and incompetent. After we had already been seated and ordered our food, an employee came over to tell us that they had people waiting to be seated and asked us if we would be good to come back to eat after 1. Why the hell would you ask someone that after they already ordered? Then when we told her we had already ordered, she asked us if we would be done by 12:30. How the hell would we know? We don't know how long it's going to take for us to get our food. We don't work here, you do. Also, my waiter tried to tell me that the eggs were vegan. Yes, actual eggs. If you're going to have vegan options on your menu you could at least educate your staff on which ones are actually vegan and what veganism actually means. I don't feel like that's too much to ask, especially considering your current menu is so small. Most of my group was not impressed with our food. One person in our group ordered eggs over easy with steak. The eggs were not over easy and the steak was just okay. Another person in our group ordered the baked eggs with bread. The bread was hard and the combo of baked eggs with the veggie salsa (I don't know what else to call it) it came with was weird. It also was not a large portion and did not feel like a breakfast/brunch food. I ended up ordering the baked eggs (minus the baked eggs, so basically just the veggie salsa) with fries. They had the audacity to charge me full price even though I didn't even replace the egg with anything. The salsa was good, it just didn't make sense with any of the items they offer to serve it with. It would maybe make a good spread on a sandwich? The only reason this place gets two stars instead of one star is because the interior is cool and my girlfriend loved her burger. That's it. Empanadas were good. Flavorful and green sauce with them herbey and acidic really good. Beef skewers really lacking. Overcooked , well done and chewy. Mains, quinoa tacos weren't bad. We ate here on a Friday night, 8:30 reservation. I had asked to sit outside, but once we saw how cool the vibe was inside, we switched. Glad we did. We really liked the decor and the overall atmosphere of the place. For starters we had the chips and dips: they were delicious. I don't know how they get the malanga, plantain, and yuca so thin. The dips were really tasty. We also got the Crispy Cheese Bites. Those were delicious. The tapioca really adds a nice textural contrast to the gooey, melty cheese. Our entrees were a disappointment. My husband chose the Opener Salad and could not eat it. He said the tamarind dressing was overwhelmingly sour and for him it was inedible. He also got the Tenderloin Skewers that he really enjoyed. For my entree I got the Quinoa Tacos. The shell was really good and crunchy and the flavors of the filling were good but the amount of filling was meager and the dish didn't feel substantial enough. But they served it in a cute T Rex taco holder. Also, the side of sweet, fried plantains was pretty generous. We had quite a few cocktails and they were all good although they could have been a little more generous with the booze. We had the Kick Ass Colada, Mercy Mule, and the Sloth Cup. Mercy Me has been on my list for a long time and I'm so glad I finally had a chance to go. The space is really big and kind of feels like a lounge. Our server was excellent and really explained the menu to us thoroughly and helped us pick out some great drinks. If you come here you MUST get the Kick Ass Colada. It says on the menu "the best you've ever had" and it really did not disappoint. Our entire party ended up getting this drink because it was THAT good. It's unlike any other frozen drink that I've ever had, it never got watery or have a slushy consistency. It was whipped perfectly and stayed the same frozen consistently the entire time. [1:00PM EST] This place is gorgeous and I think it's all the rave right now partly because of the aesthetics. I feel like the food is not up to par with the decor. By time my party arrived, 2 out of 5 of their entree items for brunch were no longer available. This probably had to do with the time of day that I came for brunch on a popular day (Sunday), but I was sorely disappointed. I ordered the sourdough pancakes and although it tasted good, I found the pancakes to be very dense and heavy. This coupled with the quantity that they gave me resulted in packing my meal to-go. My friend got the steak and eggs, which she enjoyed, but she mentioned that her medium-rare stake was quite chewy. She did really like the well-seasoned fries that came with the meal. Overall, I don't know if I would visit again for brunch because of the lack of options available. I stumbled on this hotel bar completely by accident and I'm so glad I did. My friend was hosting a happy hour at another bar nearby, but I had to walk past Mercy Me on the way. After her happy hour, our group circled back for a nightcap and were seated in one of the large lounge/couch areas. The bar area is beautiful, well-decorated, and has a super cozy feel. Our waiters were all very friendly and attentive with our large group. We ordered a few bar snacks and cocktails. I got the South Paw Manhattan and my goodness, it was one of the best manhattans I've ever had. I love that it had one of my favorite spirits in it - mezcal. It was smoky, a bit sweet and delicious. What a great way to get your fix of Call Your Mother bagels without the long lines! They use CYM bagels here for the breakfast sandwiches but put their own unique twist on the different fillings! At one time this was a favorite spot to go after work with colleagues. In the last year it seems the food and drink happy hour has disappeared, the drinks have ballooned in price, and a 22% mandatory tip has been added to all purchases. I visited last week ordered three cocktails. The bartender forgot to make the second two. It was not busy but he forgot me and took another order while I waited to remind him. My Aperol Spritz came half full, mostly ice, and included only a jigger of Aperol and a jigger of sparkling wine that tasted as though it had turned or was very low quality. Great ambiance and decor but the food here is trash. Don't waste your money! Ordered ceviche and got served a plate with the fishiest, thickest cut chunks of fish. I've never had a more disgusting ceviche in my life. Empanadas were awful, shishito peppers were cut up on a skewer??? And burnt.. and they are charging $50 for some Peruvian chicken that costs $15 at any Peruvian joint LOL, I am very familiar with DC pricing but this is just a joke. Save your coins people!! 100/10 would recommend Mercy Me. Definitely adding it to my rotation. I had the pleasure of dining at Mercy Me under its new management, and I was blown away. The restaurant has undergone a transformation, both in its menu and its overall dining experience. The ambience is vibey, trendy, romantic and cool, perfect for date night or a group dinner. I had been here a few times before and the most significant change is the menu. All I can say is WOW. The chef has introduced a completely reimagined selection of dishes that feature a fusion of flavors and inventive South American combinations; it's clear that they are striving to create a unique culinary experience. The crab pappardelle, moqueca and fugazetta were my favorites and definitely save room for the pavlova. The cocktails are stupid good, but I would expect nothing less from the Residents Cafe guys. The negroni colada and espresso martini are *chef's kiss* I'm psyched to have a new restaurant in my rotation. read more
