This is a locals place but very welcoming to everyone. It's eclectic in ambience and the service is very good. It's a good breakfast spot and lunch is just as good. The guys in the kitchen need to understand sunny side up vs. over easy. I like sunny side up not over easy and that's what lost a star. I recommend Meridian Cafe for any meal. I look around to see if I can find a table with better lighting and then I look up at the lights and the light hanging above me is covered in cobwebs! Didn't really see any other tables that had much better lighting. Server was kind and friendly. Food was just OK. Nothing to rave about. Toast and bacon were cold as if they had been prepared much earlier. Cinnamon roll big and Just OK. Definitely not worth the $13+ Cinnabon way better on all levels. I like to see my food when I eat so eating breakfast in a very dimly lit establishment with a light fixture with cobwebs hanging over me kinda ruined it for me. I got the deep fried Monte and it was very greasy there was a lot of oil in each bite of the sandwich I took, and I wish they put the cheese between the meat not on the outside of it so it was more of an actual sandwich. Really really good coffee. Not the foo foo rose petal coffee or the old school coffee that tastes like it has been sitting on the warmer all day but tasteful aromatic perfect color coffee. Katie provided immediate service and the food arrived just as I was needing my second cup of coffee. Did I mention how good the coffee was? The high ceilings, the heating system tubing, the old brick walls and vintage countertop area keeps the motif perfect for its location. A very cool, historical older building with prints and signs. Rustic is a good description. This is a 'seat yourself' restaurant with ample tables and booths. Service wasn't good. I ordered online a takeout and waited for five minutes when I walked in the door to be greeted. There were probably 8 to 10 employees working on the floor. They all continue to look at me, but no one acknowledge me or asked if I need help. There did not appear to be somebody greeting people and no one even said will be with you in a few minutes I had to walk to the bar and ask for my to go order because no one seemed to care that there was a potential customer waiting. Maybe it was just a bad day but that's still pretty unacceptable service. Re the food, toast wasn't toasted and it was dry. Hash was basic. They gave me bacon on my sausage breakfast sandwich. In town early this fine Halloween Friday for some business. Cafe was open early so was not to busy. Nice use of the old building in the old downtown area of Puyallup. Waitress was pleasant and the coffee was actually real good. I was craving a Denver omelette and it did not disappoint. The portion was perfect size although I still could not eat it all. Well I'm giving the cafe a second chance to impress me. It's Monday and it was open seating. The service was quick to drop off the menu, cup of ice water and some coffee that was just luke warm. The atmosphere is that of a small cafe but larger than expected inside. Back to the two sided single page menu "breakfast & lunch." This is perfect but be prepared with your reading glasses as the font is small. After ordering my food I figured 10-15 minutes. Well to my surprise it was under 10, although the restaurant wasn't too busy. I ordered traditional eggs Benedict served with hash browns. The eggs were poached perfectly, the slice of ham was just enough, the muffins were actually toasted lightly and the Hollandaise sauce was just okay. Unfortunately, the hash browns were only cooked/a little burnt on one side. So overall they did a good job, next time I'll have to bring a friend or two on a weekend. read more

Ok, this joker who ordered takeout and got all backside hurt because no one greeted him at the front clearly can't read well. This was my first time here and I immediately saw the large sign up front which says "Please seat yourself". This means #1 you won't get greeted and #2 you should walk in and find a seat ... wait for it ... YOURSELF!!! As soon as we sat down we were greeted within 1 minute and the service and food were both fantastic. The 12$ cinnamon roll is as big as 4 normal sized ones. You gotta try it! FTFY. read more

Came here on New Year's Day. I expected it to be busy, but then I realized we didn't show up until noon. I was very hungover and needed something but couldn't figure out what. The waitress suggested some items to us. We ended up having a hard time deciding between the French dip and the breakfast burrito. We had to stand and wait a few minutes before they noticed us. I went to the restaurant because on their website they advertised pecan beignets. I was really looking forward to having one of those. So after looking at the menu, I saw no beignets. So, I asked the server what happened to the beignets? She said we don't sell beignets. She then asked another server. Did we ever sell beignets? The server server replied a few years ago maybe five. I said why is it still on the webpage.? I did advise her that she should talk to the webmaster and tell the webmaster to remove the beignet off the webpage. The french dip was excellent (8/10) and the onion rings were dang near perfect (9/10). I wish the portion of onion rings was larger, would've gladly ordered two servings though. Service was fast too.
