I visited the cafe for the first time, this morning. I'll definitely be going back. It's within walking distance of where I get my hair cut, so my plan is to visit again before my cut. The outside of the property is very inviting and fun, as you can see from my photos. When I stepped inside, the charm washed over me. I liked that they let me choose where to sit, by politely writing, "Please seat yourself." I found the perfect place to enjoy my breakfast. Fluffiest scrambled eggs, tasty pancakes with a dusting of powdered sugar. They were pretty. My bacon was cooked just right. And, finally, the phenomenal service. Thank you team Meridian Cafe. Farmhouse mixed with classic diner, Meridian Cafe is a great breakfast spot. The booths are super large and deep, big enough for my friend and gaggle of kids. (Okay I only have 2, is 2 a gaggle?) Love the personalized touches like the different mugs and flatware. Food took awhile to come out but was great.. parking is tough on a weekend morning so go early. Stopped here with my family on a random Sunday. When I found out the corned beef hash was not from a can, I really wanted to try it. My husband and I both ordered with high hopes. Very, very disappointing meal and I must say probably the worst breakfast I've ordered. It lacked flavor. The potatoes were cold and maybe frozen potatoes that were dropped on the deep fryer and sat for a while and then topped with finely chopped corned beef. There were no peppers or onions as advertised. My husband is usually easy going and will eat anything, but even he did not finish his meal. This left a bad impression. Do not order the Monte Cristo here it was so disgusting it actually made me gag at the table. It's completely deep fried and was dripping with oil all over the plate It tasted like I ate the burnt bottom pieces from a fryer. I told the waitress who was rude the entire time that it was really gross and this was not how Monte Cristo's were made and she takes the plate and brings me the bill with the meal still on it. I could have sworn I wrote a review for this place. I really love it. I've been twice and today I took my mother in-law. I never have to wait and the staff is always so friendly. I swear I can tell they are smiling behind their mask. It's has a diner feel and it's not too loud or busy. The food taste great and is always presented well. I really can't rate the food because my breakfast order was never taken. I was seated, my coffee order was taken, then I was forgotten about... I've been visiting Washington for the past four weeks, and for three of those Saturday's I've started my day with a delicious meal at Meridian Cafe. My partner and I stopped by on a busy Father's Day and the team took great care of us after a slight hiccup with ordering our food. The team was very gracious and quick to help us after we brought it to their attention and how they handled really made this a five star experience. (Maybe even six?!) Now on to the food, I absolutely love the food here. My personal favorite is the spicy chorizo omelette. They're very generous with the cheese and toppings and I highly recommend paying extra to add avocado. It may look like only 3 slices on top but they also add plenty of avocado to the inside! The biscuits and gravy are great and the hash browns are bomb! Definitely homemade. They always have a delicious crisp to them and they're just perfect with the rest of the meal. Stopped in for lunch with the wife, a rare moment where we got to have lunch together during the work day. She only gets a half an hour while I have a full hour. That would prove to be a struggle later so let's keep that one in mind. I pretty much had the menu scanned before the wife arrived, so ordering only took a couple minutes upon her arrival. I went with the Reuben and a cup of Chicken Tortilla Soup while the wife went with the B.L.T. and added Avocado (for an additional $2.00). It took an exceptionally long time to get two sandwiches and some fries, and by the time the food hit the table my wife only had about 6 minutes left before she had to be back at work, so a bit of a mad scramble to finish eating and get out the door. Stressful. As for the food, it was good. I felt that the Reuben was one of the better Reubens I've had in a long time. The soup was a letdown, I really didn't see any chicken in it at all. So either I misheard her and it was just Tortilla Soup, or there's a shortage of Chicken in that Chicken Tortilla Soup. Now, I want to touch on pricing for a second. I get that everyone has overhead and COVID has seem prices skyrocket. But we basically ordered two sandwiches and a cup of soup and the bill was basically $50. Factor in a tip on top of that and you've got yourself a $60 lunch for two. That's ridiculous. Staff was friendly and checked on us plenty. The place seems clean, aside from the trail of water drops that the busser spilled on the floor as he was making his rounds one time. All in all, not a bad place. The mad rush for the wife drags this one down a bit and I don't know that we'll try lunch here again any time soon. The prices seem a bit high as well. If you've got some cash to burn and plenty of time, you will enjoy the food. read more
