I love this relaxed bar and restaurant close to our house. Ive been here a few times for lunch and dinner. It is located right across from the JW wildfire driving range. My friend and I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon, it wasn't very busy, just a couple of golfers. By the time we were leaving a big group of people came in from the JW Marriott conference. We both started with the La Paloma cocktail. This drink is made with 21 Seeds Grapefruit Hibiscus Tequila, Grapefruit, Lime, Agave, and San Pellegrino Grapefruit. Very refreshing. We shared their artisan cheese dip. I've had this dip before, I love it, so it was my recommendation to my friend. This dip is made with goat cheese, brie, mascarpone topped with apricot, calabrian chiles, and almond pesto. SOOOO good! It comes with grilled bread on the side but we had to ask for more bread because there was more dip than bread. Our server was very friendly and kindly brought us more bread. read more

My girlfriend and I stopped into Meritage during lunch for a drink and an appetizer, and what a great spot! There were lots of golfers and some people who were clearly there for a conference, but you definitely don't need to be staying at the resort to enjoy this restaurant. We grabbed a comfy booth and ordered the Artisan Cheese Dip, WOW, this was good! It's a combination of whipped goat cheese, Brie, and mascarpone topped with apricots in a jam-like sauce, almond pesto, and Calabrian chilis. The flavors all worked so well together, and the appetizer is a really good size. It comes with thin slices of grilled bread, although we did have to ask for more because there's a generous amount of cheese compared to the bread. The apricots, pesto, and chilis were such a great combination. Just a heads-up--the Calabrian chilis definitely have some heat, so I'd spread them on a little gingerly! I honestly would come back just for this appetizer. It was that good! We also ordered the La Paloma, made with grapefruit hibiscus tequila. It was light, refreshing, and perfect for a hot day. We arrived as a party of 8 celebrating a birthday dinner. An amazing experience as we enjoyed culinary masterpieces from their masterful chefs. This restaurant is located near the onsite golf course on JW Marriott property so plenty of secured parking. Interior decor is very upscale and welcoming for both romantic or business occasions. Service is top notch. Drinks were always refilled and eaten plates were removed from the table by the super attentive waitstaff. I ordered the classic fish and chips which was very delightful. Meritage was easily our favorite dining experience during our stay at JW Marriott Desert Ridge. While the resort could use more kid-friendly food options--especially for breakfast--Meritage was perfect for dinner with the family. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was welcoming, and there were plenty of options for both adults and kids. The gluten-free fish and chips were absolutely bomb and some of the best I've had. The kids' meals were a hit too, and the included ice cream dessert was a fun touch that made dinner even more special for them. My sister and her boyfriend were visiting town and staying at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa, and for the Fourth of July, family gathered for dinner at the Meritage, An Urban Tavern. We had a delightful meal consisting of drinks, entrees and sides, and desserts (and of course, great company!). The Meritage is located next to the Wildfire Golf Club at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge, and it is considered to be a sophisticated urban tavern that serves a diverse dining menu with more than 50 different craft beers from Arizona. They have four menus published on their website (https://jwdesertridge.247activities.com): the All-Day Summer Menu, the Summer Social Hour Menu, the Summer Beverage Menu, and the Summer Desserts Menu. While we didn't order drinks, one person ordered a special Fourth of July drink and another person in our party ordered an Arizona beer. My wife and I both ordered handcrafted favorites. I ordered a Mut Burger consisting of a double patty, lettuce, tomato, pickle, American cheese, secret sauce, and a brioche bun with French fries as a the side. The bun was so soft, and I ordered the secret sauce on the side, which ended up being tasty. My wife ordered the Grilled Cheese Veg consisting of stracchino, brie, goat, comté, caramelized onions, tomato jam, arugula, and country loaf with a side salad. She enjoyed her meal. We split our sides. For dessert, while others at the table ordered the Vanilla Crème Brûlée (with whipped cream and strawberries), I ordered the Campfire S'mores with milk chocolate mousse, marshmallow fluff, graham streusel, and graham cracker ice cream. It was delicious! As my wife and I drove to the resort just for dinner, we were able to have our parking validated. While we didn't need to be the ones to make the reservation, you can make reservations using OpenTable. They are open Thursday through Monday from 11 AM to 5 PM and Tuesday and Wednesday from 11 AM to 4 PM for lunch, Thursday through Monday from 3 PM to 5 PM is Social Hour, and Dinner is served Thursday through Monday from 5 PM to 9 PM (though closed Tuesday and Wednesday for Dinner). We enjoyed the meal though it was hard to find and also quite loud and difficult to hear. The food was fine and the service was good. Arrival. Pull through the gate. Bring the ticket inside for validation. The cheerful restaurant was busy on this Tuesday about noon. We came in for lunch with two adults, a3 year old and a 6 year old. Kids menu $18. Includes a drink like milk. The boys had Mac and cheese and it was shells with a white Alfredo sauce. Very good. It cane with a lovely side of fruit and fries. Also a nice little cup of catsup. My daughter and I split the club sandwich. It was on sour dough toasted nicely. It's boars head turkey breast and it's delicious. Also thick crunchy bacon. It came with a spear of dill pickle and fries. We all loved the lunch. Service was great and we plan to come back. I'm posting the current happy hour menu as well. The drinks look great. Many I would like to try. If you're staying at MVC Canyon Villas they no longer honor the discount privilege card here. My only suggestion to management is that the Ranch dressing is watered down. Please don't do this. It won't even stick or stay on the fries and tastes weak. read more

One nice thing about staying at Canyon Villas is that it's right across the street from the JW Marriott and we get to use the JW amenities. We can even use resort credit at the JW restaurants. Tonight we tried the Happy Hour at the Meritage. We were pleased with the food, drinks, service, and decor. I had the strawberry bliss, which is a blend of gin, strawberries, basil, and lemon juice. Dan got a jalapeño margarita. Both drinks were quite good. We shared the ahi tuna and chicken wings. They were delicious and quite affordable. We might go back tomorrow and get fried green tomatoes and truffle fries. I planned to order that after we finished our tuna and wings, but we were full. I was frustrated because I was looking forward to those fried green tomatoes. You don't find that on nearly enough menus. Morton, our server, took excellent care of us. He was at our beck and call. This is a great restaurant on an upscale hotel property. The food was delicious! I had the tuna poke bowl and couldn't believe the amount of tuna that it came with. High protein content after a game of golf! It hit the spot! We also had crab cakes for an appetizer. At the bar we had prickly pear margaritas and a grapefruit Paloma. Every drink is made to order and fresh squeezed fruit. They don't use and mixers in the drinks we ordered. The bartender was friendly and our waiter was fast and efficient. Unfortunately this was a disappointment for us. Our server was pleasant but did not explain the menu, offer suggestions, just wasn't overly engaging or friendly as is customary at these types of places. The heavily chlorine tasting tap water is a definitely turn off - I expect a little better at a a restaurant with these prices and of this caliber. We had two cocktails - the whiskey thyme and a wise beekeeper. The beekeeper was overly sweet with huge globs of bee pollen on the rim and the whiskey thyme drink had an entire "tree" of thyme in it - very clumsy. Our server never asked about a second drink or any other drinks and my husband finished his about halfway through the meal. Not a huge deal but like I said sloppy and inattentive. The complimentary bread was not warm and had a weird mixture of seeds scattered very unevenly over the top. We got the burrata appetizer and the bread was very greasy and mid warm but the flavors were good with a super awkward presentation. I was planning on ordering fish but after the weird non greeting and lack of menu explanation as well as the server not seeming to understand when I asked what the fish of the day was - I got nervous about the fish and opted for steak as food poisoning isn't in my vacation plans. We've stayed at the JW numerous times and the service here was a surprise. We got steaks, Brussels, mashed potatoes. The steaks and side dishes were prepared well and had good flavor. All of the food was just above room temperature. We did bring the food temp to the servers attention and he apologized appropriately and offered new dishes. We declined as we did not want to wait for new dishes. He did take our drinks off the bill in recognition which we appreciated. They did bring my husband a birthday desert which was nice but it was basically inedible, grainy in texture and overall just not good. Overall the vibe was mid level and slightly awkward. This restaurant tries to be fine dining but frankly they need to step it up a bit for that. This was on a Wednesday night and I'd say the restaurant was about a quarter full. read more

Have been there after golf several times and this is the second time me and several other guests and just want to sit down and have a drink and some appetizers with NO ONE in the place and asked to be seated. The hostess asked if we had a reservation with maybe 20% occupancy I we just finished playing golf on your course we just want to sit down and enjoy the after round she said 30 minute wait, this is the second time this happened . This place is an embarrassment for resort and to anyone that works there. No wonder none of the members go into this place they are rude, overpriced and down right nasty. The Meritage is tucked inside the JW Marriott at Desert Ridge in Phoenix and is a good out-of-the-way spot from the hustle of the hotel and conference areas. For the golfers, it's adjacent to the resort's golf shop. The Chopped Salad was quite good. All the ingredients were fresh. The seasonal fruit was a nice sparkle to the dish. The marinated tomatoes were a nice addition to the greens. We added chicken which was cooked well - very tender. For our taste, the dressing - a mild vinaigrette, was a bit too sweet. As you can see the Turkey Club is just standard fare. The sliced turkey breast was okay, as was everything else including the sandwich bread. We just arrived in Phoenix and wanted a light meal on-property before going to bed. The. JW Marriott front desk suggested Meritage. It certainly fit the bill. But reviewing this restaurant is difficult because of the host who was a total loser. Prince Raj was on his name tag. He was unfriendly, arrogant and pushy. He unpleasant demeanor put both of us off immediately! He insisted on getting full information on both of us even though we are staying in the same room - this did not happen at any other on-property restaurant. Plus he didn't like the table we wanted to sit at so he said that "section" was closed. Instead, he seated us at the table right next to that one. Arrogant and weird. If there had been any other place to eat, I would have left immediately. Luckily, our waiter MORE than made up for Prince Raj's bad behavior. I wish I had gotten our waiter's name because he was excellent! The food too was very good. We both got the crab/lobster bisque which was Northeast authentic and delicious. My Wedge Salad was just about the best I've ever had! The seared bacon was crazy good. Great late night dining choice except for the smarmy Prince Raj! read more

Love this golf stop within the JW Desert Ridge and Wildfire pro shop. TV's everywhere, so it's the perfect spot to watch any sporting event. She was very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. We ordered the roasted beets for an appetizer. The dish was delicious. For our meals we ordered the scallops and the salmon. Both dishes were ok. They came out hot and fresh and tasted fine. There wasn't really anything special about the food though. We got a free dessert for our birthday. Service was great! This is a review for breakfast only. Staying at the JW for a biz trip. There are renovations going on and the main restaurant was closed. Staff directed me to meritage for breakfast. I'm very glad I went. Menu is Marriott faire with a few additional items. I'm a frequent Marriott traveler and actually like the predictability. I went with the Benedict and it was a great choice. Probably the best prepared eggs Benedict I've ever had at a Marriott. Kudos to the chef for taking the time and going the fresh route! It was obvious and really made the meal shine. My server was over the top with attentiveness and I couldn't have been more happy with the experience. An added plus, they recognized my bonvoy status and were very appreciative of that. Many properties just give the "we have to do this" treatment. Not the case at meritage. This whole experience really made my start of the day great and memorable. Kudos! read more

My husband and I were staying at the resort for a gala and wanted something quick to eat before getting ready for our evening. Meritage has a nice gastropub-type environment, but we still felt welcome and comfortable although we were dressed in our swimsuits and coverups from the pool. We were greeted immediately and sat at the bar. The bartender was a little short with us at first and spoke really fast, but he talked to us more and was friendlier as our visit went on. That may have just been his personality or he was in the zone working. We ordered wings (half bbq and half buffalo) and the tavern burger to share. They're very accommodating here. We didn't ask for anything special, but the wings arrived with ranch and bleu cheese, and they split the burger for us and provided plenty of condiments. The food was very good. The wings were big and meaty. Burger was solid, and french fries were good too. Wings and burger were $20 each, but I feel like that's on par with resort prices. Plenty of TVs for watching games, friendly staff, and good food. If you're looking for something on the resort, this is a good place to eat. Also, lots of good local beers on tap. read more

I had lunch here twice. First I ordered a wedge salad. The bleu cheese dressing was fresh and delicious, but I found it lacking in other accouterments including the bacon. The second lunch I had the Yellowtail tuna wrap which was being raved about my the servers. It was served in a poorly made wrap and simply said, lacked much flavor at all. Even the yellowtail tuna seemed sad. It was searched, but literally no flavor. I ended up using my overly mayonnaise saturated potato salad (yes, it was too much even for this mayo loving girl) as a dipping sauce. This one is in the back by the golf course and Is more traditional bar and grill than the one near the lobby. Service was overall good though did have issue of not bringing dessert likely since ordered it at same time as other person ordered entree. When did bring it out supposedly dropped it. They were nice enough to not charge for it when did show up. Both the dessert and the meatloaf were good especially if do not think of the calories in a bacon wrapped meatloaf. The food was meh. This review is for our fantastic waiter Travis, and the INSANE bread they serve at the beginning of the w meal!! Seriously, the bread and butter were phenomenal. For our mains, my boyfriend ordered the poutine, which had nice truffle flavor, but wasn't hot.. I ordered the steak frites (which I was very excited about) and it was pretty disappointing. Fries were soft and cold, steak was crazy tough.. but TRAVIS saved the day and switched me out for the meatloaf no problem. I felt terrible sending something back, but he assured me it was more than alright and then even gave us a discount on our check!! Which I really didn't expect. Overall, we wouldn't go back for the food,.. but maybe to see Travis, have amazing bread, and some fancy cocktails! read more
