Love this place. One, has reasonable corkage and nice wines by the glass. Two, the veal parm and tagliatelle bolognese are always solid. Three, food rotates seasonally. Current swordfish special is amazing, as was tagliatelle appetizer and date dessert. I've always found the servers to be nice and attentive. Tried to dine here and left feeling disappointed. From the moment my lady friends and I arrived, the service was noticeably slow and uncomfortable, as if the staff couldn't be bothered. There was an older gentleman (the owner or manager perhaps, I assume) who was displeased & irritated with our attempt to sit at the bar. We eventually were allowed to sit down and menus were thrusted at us. Despite the restaurant not being busy, the visibly irritated bartender put waters down in front of us without any sort of greeting. What made the experience worse? I'd love to tell you how the food tasted, but as of 8:40PM, our party had been sitting for over an hour with only "artichoke shavings" (a special) and cocktails (a highlight) to whet our appetites. The server stopped by once to ask if we wished to refill our drinks, but otherwise did the bare minimum to tend to the table. The manager checked in once to tell us the kitchen was backed up (duh) and "joking" we would have been served faster if we sat outside. Finally, we got sick of waiting, resentful of the time wasted and put off by the ambivalent service. We asked for the check and our food to be packed up to go. In fairness, we were comped our drinks and appetizer for our troubles. Too little, too late. We would have been happier getting delivery, making our own drinks and saving the cost of a babysitter for a rare night out! UPDATE: Finally tried the food. What a great find! The décor is very appealing with white tablecloths, dark ceilings and deep teal walls adorned by black and white photos of Italian scenery. The result is a classy, modern and comfortable space that feels very welcoming. Speaking of welcoming, our waitress was fantastic. She was personable, attentive and knowledgeable. Really good service. Another welcome surprise was that the ambient noise level was so low, I was able to enjoy a great conversation with my date without straining and screaming across the table. Drinks: All were great. There have been plenty of times I've had to send a drink back, but not here. If you're a martini drinker, they do the Vesper martini quite well (James Bond would be pleased), and the Dead Sea Martini with blue cheese stuffed olives and a few drops of olive oil was a winner as well. However, the ultimate summer drink was the Tequila water. Delightfully refreshing! Appetizers: The grilled shrimp on a bed of bright vegetables and nardello chile peppers was fantastic. Our waitress also recommended the fried eggplant with melted mozzarella, and I've very glad she did. It had the same satisfying, addictive combo of crunch and cheese of a fried mozzarella stick, but more elevated with the eggplant. Entrees: At first glance, I was a bit concerned regarding the brevity of the menu. But, when enjoying locally sourced, seasonal driven, farm to table cuisine, this tends to imply that the chef has been very intentional in their selections. Thankfully, they also have a number of off-menu specials, so that between the cyclical menu and rotating specials there is plenty of variety. I enjoyed expertly prepared black sea bass of the perfect consistency, with gratifying crispy skin and impeccable seasoning, served atop a bed of tomatoes and broccolini. As delectable as the dish was, the duck was even better! Bold, mouthwatering, savory flavor appropriately cooked to medium rare, preserving the tenderness and juiciness of the meat. I'm starting to drool a little just thinking about it. This little treasure is definitely worth another visit to see what new masterpieces the chef has conjured from the local purveyors. Just moved to the suburbs from Manhattan, and am so happy with this restaurant find! At the risk of sounding snobby, the quality of the food at Meritage is similar to what you'd find in Manhattan. I really enjoyed the beet salad and peach salad special that I had. Good complimentary bread, good wine. Didn't love the tagliatelle bolognese or bread pudding, but with both of these dishes - the food quality was good and I could see how others would like them - they just weren't for my specific tastes. My husband is really critical but he really enjoyed his gazpacho and chicken. Plenty of socially distanced outdoor seating. I'm sure we'll be back. read more

I lost words for Meritage...found it while looking for an outdoor seating to take advantage of the remaining summer month this covid 19 season. We started with gazpacho and beet salad, both were wonderfully prepared. IMO, Meritage gave La Panatiere a run for their money when it comes to gazpacho. I never had a gazpacho in Westchester better than La Panatiere until now. It's creamier and flavorful, simply gazpacho made in heaven. Yum... Everything was delicious. From cocktails to appetizers, main dishes and desserts. For starters we had the special guacamole which was excellent and the roasted beets. The roasted beets were absolutely delicious. We also had the grilled shrimp appetizer with white beans.. also excellent . My husband had the pork chop and I had the fluke special. We did not leave a drop on food on the plate. We called very last minute and were able to get a reservation for the same evening however I don't think that this is typical for this restaurant. Last night was my first experience as a diner at Meritage & it was wonderful. We sat inside but, despite the gusty breeze, there were many dedicated diners eating outside. We were seated promptly (although I couldn't find a waiting area inside unless it was stashed away in the bar area). I started off with a Sauvignon Blanc which was so smooth & tasty that I wish I had drunk it more slowly; my boyfriend enjoyed his PInot Noir. We skipped starters & went straight to entrees & sides. We both ordered the Roasted Brussel Sprouts as we couldn't decide on another Side to share & they were out of this world. I would've licked the dish clean if I could have. I ordered the Chicken Paillard, he ordered the Tagliatelle. Both of us were constantly commenting throughout the dinner on how delicious our dishes were (I especially loved the roasted sweet potatoes & feta in my dish, he was surprised to have enjoyed the ricotta in his). I celebrated my birthday with my family here yesterday. I can't praise everyone enough for the kindness, attentiveness and attention to detail. Mary had taken my information on the phone and all was prepared when we arrived. Her greeting and treatment of us made my guests think we were special indeed despite my never having met her before. My husband is in a wheelchair and special attention was paid to where we were seated so that all were comfortable. The table, near the front window, was spacious and comfortable with wonderful lighting. The food was excellent as it always is. We had two of the special appetizers, the asparagus soup and the artichokes which were very good. For dessert, management provided a chocolate bread pudding with a candle which we proceeded to devour. Didn't have time to take a picture, because we ate it so fast. By prearrangement, the bill never came. Mary simply pressed the receipt into my hand as she handed me my take "home bag". My children were truly surprised by the seamless exchange. This is Scarsdale's version of Cheers; where everybody knows your name (doo doo doo) and they're always glad you came. It is stalwart in its predictability. When dining at Meritage you will be accompanied by a fantastic musical soundtrack, receive attentive and personalized service, eat innovative and seasonally inspired food, and imbibe in a wide and well thought out variety of beverages. I personally love the Cava sparkling wine they offer and my husband appreciates that they often have Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA (a perennial classic for serious beer drinkers). Their burger is not only an aesthetic masterpiece offered with two or three different cheese options (roquefort!), it is delectable. Their salmon (usually served over an iteration of salad) is amazing. Their fall salmon is prepared over kale, quinoa and grapes, the grapes being a welcome and perfectly ripe addition. Their desserts, two of which are the chocolate bread pudding and a chocolate torte are mouth watering, soul gratifying, and perfect for splitting between two people. The torte is served with a dollop of hearty homemade vanilla beam whipped cream. I could forever wax poetic about their menu items - I have sampled so many! But i won't for fear of writing a tome. Just know that anything on the menu is great; from salads, to pasta, to vegetable sides, to perfectly cooked steak and pork chops. I wouldn't classify us as regulars but we have dined often at Meritage and other than a service hiccup a while back we have found it to be an enjoyable place to eat. Since the pandemic, we have always eaten outside where the tables are arranged in a row in front of the restaurant sheltered under a roof. Despite being directly next to the row of parked cars and tonight putting up with a full throated Ferrari which the owner felt he had to run for a few minutes before entering the restaurant, even after parking ,it isn't too bad. We arrived early so it was not busy and I enjoyed PEI mussels while my wife chose crispy artichokes. For mains I had the tagliatelle special with lobster which was delicious and my wife ordered the duck breast medium rare to rare which is what our server suggested which was not. The first time around the meat was definitely over cooked. There was no trace of pink anywhere. When our server asked how everything was going we confessed that the meat was over cooked and he offered to bring it back to the kitchen and try again. He returned in a very short time with another duck breast which was slightly less over cooked but definitely not right. I am not sure what the problem was but I am thinking that either the meat had been precooked or it wasn't fresh. The lemon tart was fine. So we had a nice evening but one entree was quite disappointing. We will be returning but probably order pasta or fish. read more

I've been coming here every week for dinner for the past few months and it's come to be one of my favorite restaurants in the area. The food is always consistent (Linguine with Cauliflower, bread pudding and dirty martinis *chefs kiss*) and the service is incredibly on point. There is always available parking and I know that I'm guaranteed to enjoy my meal coming here. The whole staff is incredibly COVID conscious and, even while dining outdoors in 17° weather with heaters, I have enjoyed my experience. Highly recommend! read more

Meritage is a nice restaurant in a strip mall. I had eaten there before and been unimpressed, but just went back and had a very good meal. On Tuesday nights, there is no corkage fee, so a few friends and I went there for dinner, armed with some good wine. The room is simple, nothing much to say about. The owner is very involved with the diners. He was very nice about serving the wine. He and the waitress were as attentive about the wine as if we had ordered it from them. We went to the restaurant to drink wine, eat and catch up on things. The evening went at a leisurely pace, which is what we wanted. The food was really good. One of my favorite dishes on their menu is pappardelle with cinghiale. It's a really hearty dish and was excellent. The veal milanese was great, as was the duck breast and fish. Desserts were impressive- the chocolate bread pudding needs to be shared. The prices are on the expensive side, but not undeservedly. In the past I was put off by the plain space and was underwhelmed by the food. Meritage is worth considering if you are looking for a very good meal in Westchester. The only way to improve it significantly, and perhaps justify the price, would be to move it to a more charming location. They should take over the cursed site of the old Heathcote Tavern. read more
