I have eaten at various garden city drive-ins hundreds of times. I don't see any reason to give this place less than 5 stars. It's the typical small town drive-In end accomplishes what it's designed to do, get you food, and get you on to your next adventure. There is plenty of seating including outdoor seating. My wife and I enjoy any raspberry shake and she wants to let the world know what it's like, inside and out. Their fries have a nice little flavoring on them, but aren't anything spectacular, since it's high volume drive-in food.

AVOID MERLINS AT ALL COSTS. If I could give a 0 star I would. First off it's very pricey. And the food was absolutely garbage. The staff is horribly rude as well. Before I even discovered the food was made wrong and not at all worth $70 i asked which of the meals was which and some girl in a yellow shirt ripped my head off saying " we did our best if it's wrong it's your problem" Really? Then of course we get to the table that was not cleaned or sanitized by them I had to do It and of course the food was wrong. I went up to the window to simply ask for an extra plate for my son and the same girl rolled her eyes at me and said WHAT NOW!!! Again if you value your hard earned money and want a good meal with even half way decent service AVOID MERLINS!

Super thick milk shakes! Ok so I saw people getting fries and stuff. But this place is known for its milk shakes. The raspberry milk shakes to be exact! So this review only has to do with milk shakes. The line out the door says it all! I'm not kidding the line went out the door and around the building. Every single person had a milk shake. So Bear Lake is known for its raspberries. So while you are visiting on your vacation or just for the weekend you need to come here for a raspberry shake. Its made with fresh raspberries! Now if you don't like raspberries they have 20 other flavors including rocky road. The shakes are so thick that its basically an ice cream. They serve it with a spoon not a straw. And it is about 2 inches higher than the rim of the cup. So huge serving for one price. It hits the spot between playing on the lake and camping. But I highly suggest the raspberry shake and a glass of water. Stay hydrated and get back out on that lake!

They've updated the interior and it nice. Lots of seating as well as outdoor seating and a little playground. SHAKES: this is what Bear lake is all about and I felt they really failed which is why the 2 stars. They use soft serve vanilla for all their shakes and just pump in flavoring. So when I ordered a mint chocolate chip expecting it to be green and have bits of chocolate I was surprised to get a sandy beige shake in return. I could hardly taste any mint at all. I have had shakes from almost everywhere else in the area and this is probably my least favorite. Go to La Beaus if you can. If it's a Sunday go to the Chevron gas station or Hometown Drive In Next door. I also had the tots with cheese and honestly probably would have enjoyed them more without cheese. It wasn't what I was expecting again. It was shredded cheese on top that I think they microwaved? And maybe some prefer that. In this case I was just hoping for some classic nacho cheese with them.

Yikes! Good food, but not-so-great employees!! We went here for Labor Day weekend and it was crazy busy, so I understand there may have been frustration and frazzled nerves involved. However, I was not impressed with the way the employee handled this situation... we were part of a very large order. At least a dozen meals, plus shakes. Easily over $130 worth of food. Everything came out in good time, but one person was missing the shake he ordered. He went to ask the employee at the window about it and got extreme attitude--and a flippant "Well you can talk to the manager then!!" We witnessed her throwing a hissy fit in the kitchen over it. Eventually the manager made it right but this employee really caused an unnecessary scene over a $3 shake in such a massive order of food. Speaking of the food--it was very enjoyable! The chicken tenders were very good, the tater tots were DELICIOUS, the shakes were great, and I liked the burger. This was a beautiful burger, mouth-watering to look at. I wish it had tasted as good as it looked, though. Unfortunately the bacon didn't have much flavor. However, on the whole, I still enjoyed it. Just a bummer that an employee decided to be so rude to a paying customer.

Merlins drive in has a very homy feel. Whats not homy is the fact that all the workers didn't have a mask on. The girl with the space buns, you're amazing. Very good shakes

Decent food. Good sized shakes. Only shake shack open on Sunday which makes it the best.

I had a few special requests due to me sharing my burger with my dog and they did not disappoint. The shake was really good. Blended well. I had raspberry and Oreo cookie. It would've been nice to taste a little more raspberry in the shake. They pride themselves on using fresh raspberries and that is the reason. Fresh fruit mixed with dairy tampons the tartness and dulls a lot of the sweetness.. I believe macerating some raspberries and sugar and finishing with some fresh lemon zest or even a little lemon juice and adding that to the fresh raspberries would knock it out of the park. I put it on the floorboard so my dog wouldn't get at it and accidentally knocked it over. It was so thick that only the huge amount that sticks out of the cup touched the floor mat. Awesome!!!!!!! I got the biggest burger they had. A half pound with two kinds of cheese and pastrami burger. It wasn't called a pastrami burger so I'm not gonna complain that it's just one thick slice. It was more like how you would add bacon to a burger. All the veggies were super fresh. Their choice of bun is the best bun I've had since my road trip began a week ago. Here's my opinion on the burger. The burger had no beef flavor. The only flavor came from the wonderful charcoal grill marks on the burger. Don't be afraid of salt. It's a chef's favorite condiment. The biggest complaint and my only true complaint is that the burgers have a horrible texture to them. Like two quarter pounds of beef breakfast sausage. Not good. If somehow it is how ground I'd recommend using a smaller die and leaving out the transglutaminase. Dog loved it. Would I come again? I sure would. Mos Def

This was my second visit, and unfortunately it was almost identical to the first. The welcome was not very friendly, and our waitress walked by the table several times before finally speaking to us. After that, she never really came back to check on us, ask whether we needed anything, or see how the food was. The next thing we knew, she was dropping off the bill. We ordered two appetizers, but only one was brought out. I also clearly mentioned that I have a food allergy, and she said she would let the kitchen know. Even so, the appetizer arrived with the ingredient I'm allergic to, and nothing was said about it. On top of that, the salad came with the wrong dressing. That said, the seared ahi tasted fresh, and the greens with salmon really hit the spot. The food itself was enjoyable, which makes the service issues even more disappointing. It is hard to overlook a missed appetizer, the wrong dressing, and especially the mishandling of a food allergy. This place has a lot of potential, but the service definitely needs work.

They have the old school mixer (the kind you see on re-runs of Petticoat Junction) and I am of the understanding the use real razberries which is an upgrade from the similar shake found at McDonalds. High - clean. Place is a little off but so is the entire town. I noticied one poster commented how the bathroom had no toilet paper. I did not inspect that situation. Low - Took 43 minutes to get the frickin' burger. The burger itself was plain, somewhat tasteless, and generally underwhelming. Burger is a two star situation. Fries were as expected from a town that basically goes out of business after Labor Day weekend. Gift shop analysis - I have no comment. Not the same stuff you find on Amazon though. Pro Tip - use the drive through. The staff is kids, nice and all but just not the brightest group, especially when some tour bus rolls in and the cashier forgot to send a bunch of tickets back to the line cook. That is when problems start. Summary - Eat here in a pinch. Stop in for the shake and cut your losses on the food.
