I've been going here every summer I've been at Bear Lake, which is most of my life. There is much more competition over the last few years (cough cough Zips). And I have to say, their shakes cannot be beat. Raspberry, obviously, peanut butter Oreo, yep, burnt almond fudge w mini marshmallows, life changing. Over the last couple of years I've heard countless positive comments about this place, and a few days ago I finally got the chance to partake. The view of Bear Lake, seeing small lakeside shops and locals out strolling only accentuated the feel of this place as a good and well loved feature of Garden City. Old school method of cooking food, in a dinky little diner-type building; the sign and building itself don't stand out much so it's very easy to drive past it and not give it a second glance. The service was excellent. The crew was younger, as in teens and young adults manning the helm, and they were nothing short of professional and extremely friendly. I genuinely didn't mind the wait for my food because the staff seemed to love what they were doing. The shakes were highly recommended, and advertised as a staple item, so of course I had to order one. I got their signature raspberry flavor, and it certainly did not disappoint! Actual bits of raspberry mixed in, whipped and smooth texture... my boyfriend and I had a hard time sharing it with each other! I ordered a grilled cheese with a side of fries, and my boyfriend ordered the cordon bleu sandwich. The grilled cheese was immaculate. Old school buttered bread, fried on both sides to earn that signature crisp crunch and slight char, where the cheese just pulls apart and melts in your mouth... Divine. I could have ordered 30 and gone home satisfied. The fries were very good, although I do feel the serving size was a bit small for the price they asked. But despite my raving sentiments, I did dock the restaurant a star because of the cordon bleu sandwich. My boyfriend orders it every time he's able to be in the area, but apparently over the years they changed from an actual chicken breast to a breaded chicken patty. Disappointing, to say the least. It was good aside, but the taste would have excelled if they subbed the patty for an actual breast of chicken. I urge LaBeau's to consider moving back to actual chicken versus the patty. In the grand scheme, I will very much be returning each chance I get. Of course I had to stop by La Beau's for their famous raspberry shake while visiting Bear Lake last weekend. This is the first thing everyone tells you to do when they hear you're going to Bear Lake. There are actually two La Beau's across the street from one another. One is the OG La Beau's with the classic cups you see in all the photos. The one across the street is called La Beau's Too and had a more modern and hip take on the original location. The line was insane at the original La Beau's, so we walked across the street, where the line was much smaller. The service was great and quick - our shakes came out quickly and so did our order of fries. All of the tables were packed and we decided the eat the the car. We each got a different shake. The raspberry shake was good, but I'm not sure I understand the hype, because it did fall a little bit flat for me. It has fresh raspberries in it, which was yummy, but I don't know that I'd order it again. We mixed some of my partner's chocolate shake in with the raspberry shake and that mixture was really good. Plenty of hot fudge and every bite had brownie bits in it. My husband and I agreed that for a fast food place, the food is definitely higher quality than what you'd normally expect. The burgers were tasty and both the onion rings and tater tots were crisped to perfection. We both agreed that this is probably the highest quality you can get for fast food. Don't come here expecting a 5 star unbelievably mind-blowing meal, but don't set your expectations too low either! One of the best shakes I've had! I got peanut butter cookie dough and it truly was delicious! It was creamy and had the perfect amount of peanut butter. The small was plenty. Their fries are nice and crispy. They tasted super fresh and similar to Five Guys (so they tasted like actual fresh potatoes)! Their fry sauce was great too. We ordered chicken nuggets and onion rings along with a slew of milkshakes and they did not disappoint and they kept probably within 10 minutes. Even after our family blind taste tested all the other shakes in town, this was still the clear winner. This place was here before all of the other restaurants and their shakes. It never disappoints, always having the best shakes that are fresh, creamy, and tasty. Alway worth the long lines. We ordered two large orders of fries, and they were absolutely scrumptious. Nice and hot, crispy with just the right amount of salt. We also ordered five pastrami burgers, and they were okay. Decent, fresh ingredients. I just wish there was more beef in the hamburger patty, so it would justify that type of expense. We also ordered some raspberry shakes, an Oreo shake, and then the family favorite which was a raspberry Oreo shake. Very tasty! I could be wrong, but the ice cream base seemed different than it has been in years past. It seemed more ice cream-ish than milk shake. Either way, it was still good, just different. Even though we spent nearly $90, they wouldn't give us a couple of cups of water (for our dog). They did have bottled water available for 50¢ apiece.
