Soon after reserving a condo for fall break, Mermaid Cottages called to make sure we knew Pirate Fest was happening the same weekend-- and the location we selected would be in the middle of it all. They offered other locations if we wanted to move. (We bought pirate clothes instead.) That was the first indication of the hospitality we received from Mermaid Cottages. They truly cared about our experience, worked to make sure we were happy. The location itself was great. Steps from the beach, with gated access to covered parking and two assigned parking places. The condo was older but well-maintained and furnished. Bedrooms were large and comfortable. There was a spacious open living area with a galley kitchen and bar, a separate dining area, and a wrap-around covered balcony. We feel like we made friends with Mermaid Cottages and look forward to seeing them again soon! read more

Mermaid Cottages has been our go-to for beach cottage rentals for close to 26 years now. Diane and her outstanding staff of "Mermaids" always make sure your stay is worth every penny and then some. There are many cottages to choose from and they are all beautifully decorated and immaculately clean. I have never once had to complain about a cleanliness issue and we have stayed in a different cottage almost every time we've visited over the course of many years. They check in with you by text to make sure everything is going well and the few times we've had a question or needed help with something, they have responded right away. We stayed in the Cantaloupe cottage this past weekend and we enjoyed it some much that we hated to leave. We have been meaning to rent a Mermaid Cottage for years, and was finally able to manage it. We rented the Enlisted Mens Mess Hall in early August. We were so pleased with our stay at the property. The screened in porch is perfect for keeping any mosquitos at bay, but still enjoying the lizards scampering about the yard. Inside; the property was beautifully decorated and well appointed with everything we could need. The high ceilings and stained glass plus the old tile reminded us of old New Orleans. The secret walk to the beach (between Officers Row) was super helpful and we had prime beach to ourselves. From booking the property to checkout the experience with the Mermaid Cottage team was exceptional. They were more than willing to provide recommendations for entertainment, giving us the inside scoop and even checking in a few days after we arrived to make sure everything was perfect. in 2024 we rented for a month with another company (TVR). At the recommendation of others we call mermaid cottages to rent in 2025. The difference was amazing. Starting with our initial contact when we spoke to Tammy. She was pleasant, accommodating and so very helpful. Being on the island, we wanted to look at other options and get pricing for the following year. when we called TVR, we were told, sorry, we can't do that and won't have pricing until spring. When we called Mermaid, Tammy completely understood that we had just a few days left on the island and sent us to a few places to look at and gave us pricing on the spot. We were on the island for 5 weeks this year and have already rebooked with Mermaid for 2026. Tammy and the rest of the mermaids are great to work with. read more

Rose's Folie has water damage. They were accommodating and sent us to another house once brought to the landlord. The property had a very strong odor of mold/musty/earthy smell. My asthma was highly triggered, the walls and ceiling were warped and repainted, they set up a dehumidifier that had to be constantly dumped out and there was visible mold in the vents. read more

We LOVE Mermaid Cottages so it was a no brainer when we decided to book a girls weekend trip for my daughter's 16th birthday. We booked the Live Oaks Cottage this time and it was PERFECT! Decorated like a magazine, perfectly laid out with plenty of rooms, beds and bathrooms for our group of 6 and a great location - close to the beach. The screened front porch with giant swing and plenty of seating, was our favorite spot and my son will love the ping pong table when we come back next time. Diane and her team always go above and beyond to make sure her guests are happy and this time was no exception. I booked a cottage for a March stay for a family vacation and was cancelled by Mermaids due to COVID19. Mermaids charged me a $101.00 cancellation fee though they cancelled a week before the trip was scheduled. I booked my reservation over the phone and directly to Mermaids- so no third party existed and I also signed no contract agreeing to the cancellation. I can ew charging me a cancellation fee if I cancelled but I didn't and it was a great hardship on me as I had spend a lot of money preparing for a large gathering at the rental. Also, I was told when the cancelled my reservation that I would be a priority reschedule when they resumed operations. I understand the hardships this pandemic has caused and understand the cancellation but disagree with the cancellation fee as I was under no contract and I didn't cancel. Be careful when booking worth Mermaids. read more

My family and I had a great time at Mermaid Cottages! The house where we stayed had everything we needed for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The kitchen and dining room were lovely, and great for hanging out as we cooked and ate meals. The living room and TV room were well decorated, with pretty art on the walls and cozy furniture for relaxing. Everything was clean and neat when we arrived, getting into the house was easy because of the electronic-code-keypad, and I appreciated all the information that Mermaid Cottages provided (via signs and a 3-ring binder) about the house, about Tybee, and about nearby attractions. The outdoor shower and cute side yard (with pleasant sitting area) were great bonuses. Plus, from the house it was only a four minute walk to the beach and to downtown restaurants. It was a great place to stay on Tybee and was the perfect home base for a fun and restful beach vacation. read more

I have stayed with Mermaid Cottages for many years. Each trip and stay in their beautifully appointed cottages has been absolutely wonderful. Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to stay in many different cottages. Each one is unique, beautifully decorated, and often with vintage furniture and accents. The staff is so welcoming and devoted to making your stay memorable and happy. I have never had a negative experience and can't wait for my next visit. To me, staying in a comfortable cottage versus a hotel is the only way to go. Often I cook most of my meals in their well appointed kitchens. There are few things better than having Mermaid Morning Bliss coffee in your pajamas on one of the cottages screened porches. Who wants to go out to eat at a crowded breakfast spot when you can relax in your cozy cottage? Some of my best memories involve cooking on a grill and having a sundowner cocktail while the smell of grilled meat wafts in the air. Or, as Jimmy Buffet would say, the smell of shrimp that are getting ready to boil, and are so fresh and sweet because they were in the ocean a few hours earlier. We had never rented with Mermaid Cottages before! Talk about the best experience EVER! They are white glove, five-star service all the way! We rented a great condo in Tybee. They communicated with us before check-in, during the stay to ensure we were having a great time, and invited us back after check out! They went above and beyond to accommodate us before check-in (I botched the booking) and straightened it out in a matter of minutes. All of the "mermaids" I spoke to were friendly and courteous! My husband and I just came back from a week's vacation on Tybee Island. We rented "A Shore Thing" from Mermaid Cottages and we can't say enough wonderful things about this company, the home we stayed in and Tybee Island. Mermaid Cottages is run by Diane Kaufman. She is a top notch professional and she has hired a top notch staff to help her. From her website where seeing the homes and renting is so smooth, to the homes themselves, to checking in and out they run a wonderful business. It's very easy to pick your home on her website - lots of photos and descriptions are very accurate. She has developed a system that doesn't have you checking in by a certain time at an office. You go directly to your home and when you arrive at 9PM as we did that is just wonderful. Someone had even come by the house and turned on lights for us so we wouldn't arrive to a dark house. "A Shore Thing" is a beautifully decorated - incredibly clean cute beach home with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. You just feel like you are walking into a family member's home - so relaxing! They provide sheets, towels and even "Mermaid Bliss" coffee to get your first day started off right! They left us a list of when to take out the trash cans but they came by and did it before we could get to it! We were a few short blocks from the incredible Tybee Island beaches and only 1 block from the back river area - where we say the most amazing sunsets. Tybee Island has incredible restaurants, great beaches, biking, a light house, kayaking on the river. It's just a amazing little island that is so relaxing and fun. Was looking for a get away with my 3 grandchildren and daughter and helper. Wanted something easy and accessible to the beach. We found a cottage at 141 Lewis called Crabby Pirate. It was perfect, easy, and no worries about anything breaking... It was close to the beach and everyone was super helpful. I have never been to Tybee Island and it was perfect for our needs and wants. We met the owner, Diane, on arrival. She helped us with the bags etc and got us settled in. She was a great delight. As my daughter keeps Kosher, she provided us with a new microwave which definitely helped as well as all the rest if the gear my daughter brought. I would love to return in the fall, but definitely an easy ride from Atlanta, and the beaches were beautiful, Great staff and I will definitely return. PS. I am definitely spoiled about having to set up chairs and umbrellas on the beach. Wish they had a service for that. However, they do have rentals and will pick up and deliver to your cottage. They were also very nice. It is Tim's Beach and Bike Shop I believe is the name. read more

Stayed with Mermaid Cottages at Eisenhower's Retreat in August 2016. There is no direct view of ocean or beach, contrary to what is shown in the listing. There are houses in the way. Access to beach was through other people's yards, which I found unsettling. Nice screened-in back porch which used to have line-of-sight to the beach. AC did not cool below 77 degrees, even at night. Booked and paid for the Enlisted Mens house for the weekend of Hurricane Irma. Tybee mayor ordered evacuation, and we emailed asking to reschedule. No reply. Called and spoke to owner who said she wasn't ready to make a decision yet. A couple days later, we received an email that our reservation had been cancelled and she was keeping our "booking fee", which totalled $101 after she added on taxes. Totally understandable if we had cancelled on her, but we asked to reschedule due to a severe weather event, and were denied the courtesy. Extremely poor business ethic, and I doubt any of us 4 girls will ever visit Tybee now. Currently looking for another vacation destination to spend our money on a much-needed girls trip. read more

Stayed in Cantey's Cottage, and it was great - great location. We could see the water but it was a quiet area; perfect for relaxing and not feeling as though we had to do anything else. This is the second time myself and my domestic partner has rented with Mermaid Cottages. I can say they never disappoint you with anything! Not to mention they are so attentive to your needs and work hard to make your trip over the top perfect. Each one of their cottages are prefect and cozy as well as exceptionally clean! They are the one company that if you have a problem and more than likely you won't you can call them and they will be their within a matter of minutes. Our mermaid that helped us through the entire process from the time we looked for our cottage all the way until we got back home off of our trip was Mermaid Carol! I can say Carol was AMAZING! She made everything easy and trouble free during the entire process! After dealing with Carol we consider her more than a friend she has become part of our family! She even gave me her personal cell number so if we needed something all we had to do was call or text. Which I consider a special something extra!!!! We even got to meet mermaid carol this time during our stay and she brought us a very sweet welcoming card. We usually stay at paws and paddles, however this time it wasn't available. So I decided on the very eccentric Rosie's Follie, little did I know that it has a very amazing story of a woman that was loved, and friends of everyone. My family loved all the art work as well as the character it had. We even met several friends of the former owner who had many tales and storied of her. I can say out of both of our trips this was the best. I can say this was one awesome trip and Mermaid cottages have us as lifelong customers. A great place to stay! We were totally charmed by the spacious, airy, well-supplied cottage. My partner and I came with our 2-year-old daughter, and we had everything we needed to make meals at home, spread out, and relax, whether on the couch in the sunny living room, on the patio, or under the shaded outdoor area. The neighborhood was adorable and an easy drive to the beach (although I was glad the staff at the cottage pointed us toward the more low-key North Beach at the east end of the island.) Diane and her staff provided excellent instructions on how to do everything, and they were flexible about check-in time when we asked to come a bit earlier. We had a great time and would definitely recommend Mermaid Cottages to anyone looking for a rejuvenating vacation! read more

We had a large group (5 couples), so we ended up having to rent two cottages. Thankfully, we were able to book "Screened Inn" and "Mess Hall" very easily. The two residences are connected by a wrap around screened in porch connected by a locked screen door. We were able to call the night we arrived and received the code so that we could easily get from one cottage to the next. The full kitchen in both cottages was great for making shared meals during the week. The kitchen in "Mess Hall" was very small, but we were able to use "Screened Inn", so we had no complaints. The cottages were well decorated and had plenty of room to relax or play games during the night and the rainy days. The cottages were very close to the beach and plenty of other restaurants and attractions. They were also only about half an hour from the Savannah Airport, which made shuttling people to and from the house a breeze. All-in-all it was a terrific week. Thanks Mermaid Cottages! read more

We live in Savannah and needed to leave our house for a few days while our floors were being refinished. A few days turned into 9 days because the cottage was just wonderful! Mermaid Jan was a pleasure to work with and the house was decorated perfectly for Tybee. They even had Christmas decorations up. My children (ages 8 and 16) along with my parents and I stayed at the Castaway Cottage. We had very high expectations based on the pictures on line and for once the pictures did not lie. We loved the ease of checking in (self check in through the lock box) and the spacious and well stocked cottage. We were a short five minute walk to the beach which was not crowded and quite beautiful. We could have stayed there all day and been happy. The outdoor shower was one of my favorite aspects of the cottage. My children loved the sun room and the feeling that they almost had t heir own place with the way they were able to isolated behind closed doors. The kitchen was well stocked with everything that we could possibly need. The bathrooms were clean and easy to get comfortable in. The washer and dryer were also top quality and it was nice to be able to wash swim wear and beach towels. It means we can pack less. We wish that Mermaid Cottages were in different locations as we would stay anywhere they do business. We could not have asked for anything better. It was like a home away from home!! We stayed in a Mermaid Cottage during Labor Day weekend. When we arrived late on Friday night, we found that the sheets on the bed in the master bedroom had not been changed. I had read in several places that the mermaids offer 24 hour customer service, and they want to do everything they can to take care of any problems. Even the sign on the kitchen table said call anytime. It was late, but I called to ask for some clean sheets for the bed. Apparently 24 hour service doesn't apply to clean sheets late at night. I was told that there was no housekeeping available at that hour, and we were left to figure out how to handle this problem on our own. One of the Mermaid staff members stopped by the next morning. She was very understanding and agreed that the sheets were not acceptable. She changed the sheets and sent someone to spray for the ants that we had seen in the pantry. We enjoyed our trip to Tybee, but we didn't experience the customer service that we expected. read more

The island is a delight, as was my Mermaid Cottage, Made in the Shade. I can't say enough about the management company. Help is available 24 hours a day (I never needed any), and they truly want your visit to be good. I live on another island in another state, where rentals are also family homes; Mermaid service is far superior. The cottage itself was both cute and comfortable, with a delightful side porch. I am giving four stars mainly because I think few things in life rate five. Also a note for families (or parties bigger than two): The kitchen is well equipped but has no counters or storage space for food.
